Shredded crispy duck is lean, crisp (living up to its name) and in my estimation, perfect! A half order is $33 and comes with crepes and what I guess is thin-cut celery and hoisin sauce. Our other two dishes merit maybe four stars. I had high hopes for prawns with black bean sauce and minced pork, but there was little pork and the dish was under-seasoned. Beaten egg white, a component of the sauce, was almost raw and when separated from the black beans, runny and unappealing. When I inquired about 'vegetarian delight,' our server suggested creating our own dish. Four sautéed vegetables for $16. I went with bok choy, broccoli, mushrooms and fried tofu. I asked for a flavorful sauce. I believe we got garlic, but it was too subtle, not garlicky enough.. Service is on-the-ball. Ambience is lovely. And Saturday night, hours before the dreaded snowstorm, the restaurant was busy. Reservations recommended.

I started with the peanut chicken lettuce wraps (leaving one on the plate to save room), then moved on to the fried shredded beef and the fried chicken instant noodles (which really caught my eye) I was craving something heavier this time, and those noddles did justice. Overall, everything was satisfying. The lettuce wraps could've used more peanuts (I barely tasted them), and the fried shredded beef was labeled spicy but had zero heat. Still, the food hit the spot and left me full and happy. The service was outstanding. The restaurant dining area was very clean and well-maintained, my drink was always full, and the food came out quick and hot. The portions were very generous. I ended up taking some home, and they packed it up fast. Happy food, happy customer!

Some of it is more Americanized, so the place is actually perfect to go to in groups of people with varying comfort levels when it comes to Chinese cuisine. I personally love the sheng jian bao (生煎包)(crispy bottom steamed dumplings with a more fluffy skin than regular jiaozi/gyoza-style dumplings)! For me, it's expensive, but it comes with the location, and it isn't more expensive than other nearby restaurants. The place is clean, and cozy. For these reasons I would usually give 4 stars, but what really truly sets this place apart is the wait staff. They are so nice! I live in the building next door, so I come to Hui often with my two screaming kids (6yo and 2yo). The staff is so nice to them! One waitress speaks treats them like they're her own grand kids who desperately need to be fed and spoiled. She even feeds my 2yo with his fork and succeeds in getting him to eat broccoli (!!!), which I've never once been able to do myself. The rest of the staff is warm-hearted and happy, and always happy to see us, no matter how hungry (and therefore drowning in tantrums) we are. Love going here so much! 10/10 for service :D

The string beans are extremely crispy and flavorful. I wanted to keep the dried sauce afterwards. - Dry Pot Fish Fillet - Although this was extremely spicy, it was also extremely delicious. I thought the fish was very much the star and it reminded of the fried fish that I would always get in college which is a high praise because I think about that fish at least once a month. The fish was very crispy and also tender on the inside. I wish there was more fish as I feel like the pot had a lot of onions inside. - Taiwan Three Cup Chicken - I thought this dish was okay and can skip. Each chicken piece was a bit small and the sesame oil flavor didn't come through as much. Overall, great experience at Hui and I will be back! Also the servers there were so nice and had excellent music taste. We sat there for almost 4 hours talking and they never forced us to leave and even filled our waters. We are so grateful!

Café Evergreen wears its frugality on its sleeve. From the moment you walk in, there's a pervasive,…read morealmost deliberate austerity that sets the tone for the entire experience. Even the bathrooms reinforce the theme: clean, but bare-bones. The sinks in each bathroom dispense only cold water, and the lone option for drying your hands is a weak electric dryer that blows cold air--functional, but joyless. The food follows a similar philosophy. We ordered a pot of tea, hot & sour soup, egg white drop with beef soup, chives and pork dumplings, BBQ roast pork, Mongolian lamb with ginger, and prawns in XO chili sauce. The dishes were generally abstemious--nothing flashy, nothing indulgent. My favorite by far was the hot & sour soup, which had the most personality on the table. The tea was serviceable, though charging $4 per pot felt oddly steep given the otherwise Spartan vibe. The dining room is tidy and austere, clearly optimized for efficiency rather than comfort. It's easy to see why this place does brisk business for takeout and lunch--get in, get fed, get out. The only thing that is not parsimonious is the price; our lunch came to $114 before tipping. Located on the Upper East Side, Café Evergreen has long been a neighborhood staple for Cantonese cuisine and dim sum. It's been around in one form or another since the 1990s, eventually settling into its current spot on First Avenue, where it helped popularize dim sum brunch in the area. There's history here, and an old-school sensibility that regulars clearly appreciate. Overall, Café Evergreen delivers consistency and tradition, but little warmth. If you're looking for straightforward Cantonese food in an unadorned setting, it does the job. Just don't expect luxury--or even mild indulgence--to be part of the experience.

Yes, dumplings are a little pricey -- but they're substantial and thoughtfully done. The mac & cheese dumplings? Massive. Comfort chaos in the best way. The Thai curry dumplings are ehh -- flavorful, but not balanced, less memorable than the standouts. The apple fritters (they call them apple dumplings) are fun and indulgent -- unexpected and playful. But the real star? The shrimp bao buns. Michelin-quality level execution. Perfect texture, flavor layering, beautiful balance. At $12, they're expensive for a bao -- but absolutely worth it. Zero hesitation would scarf down again. Orange sauce is nice Dumpling sauce is umami god. Worth a bite! This is one of those casual spots that punches above its weight. Would come back. Would bring people. The main dining area is behind the bar and a waiter will bring you there. They charge $7 for tea at a dim sum restaurant which feels off - the whole concept of dim sum ("yum cha") is centered around drinking tea, so that really stood out to me We went on a Saturday morning at 11 and they didn't have any rice rolls, which is a staple at most dim sum spots. On top of that, most if not all the dim sum dishes were priced around $7-$8, (most places are $4) which feels a bit high for what you're getting. Lots of the food was bland, my parents liked it but I'm used to full flavor Chinese food. There was a free lobster special with $100 purchase Service was lacking. When I asked for rock sugar, the waiter seemed confused and gave us a blank look each time we brought it up. We asked 5 times The bathrooms were down the steps and unisex. It is across the kitchen. This feels more like a bar than a restaurant. FYI there is another bathroom where the dining area was but we didn't see it until we left There is a metered street parking around the corner so that was convenient ($5 for 2 hours)
