I've been wanting to try this place and got takeout recently, was very impressed! The orata (fish) was the highlight, somehow some of the skin remained crispy even in the takeout container, the saffron sauce had a wonderful flavor, and the greens and mussels were nice textural counterpoints to soak up the sauce. I also got the chicory salad, which was pretty standard. I'm not sure why restaurants tend to make these bitter as all heck and then add citrus and brine on top of it, but that's what you end up getting anywhere. I'd add some nuts or cheese for some richness, but that's not the typical vibe of a chicory salad so if you enjoy those you'd probably like this one, more of a me thing. The interior of the restaurant is super cute, and the staff were very kind, I'd go back for a sit-down meal!

Delicious& authentic post Brooklyn Museum stop. Saw that the spot is related to a popular Clinton Hill Italian and there was bread service so I'm in. It's a short walk to Franklin Ave & the spot is so charming inside like San Remo on Franklin. Ate: Focaccia with good olive oil Olive with gianderra $11 Pesce with crostata patate $31 This was a good value dinner. A few too many fresh potato chips for me on the fish, but enjoyed the experience. Hope they add more pesce options.

Delicious across the board -- easily the best Italian spot in the neighborhood. Replaces what Barboncino was trying to be. Exudes a rustic, northern Italian charm. This new neighborhood Italian eatery delivers a bona fide northern Italian experience. bread service: a generous, varied selection with that ideal contrast -- crisp exterior, moist and tender within. Portions were moderate for the price, but the quality held its own. Great red wines selection. Ours was spectacular: rich, well-paired, and sweet. Service was suuuuper warm and welcoming. Italian waiters at Italian restaurants imbue the bounce of their timbre into their service. Order mistakes were compensated well. I like the rotating menu and limited options. The bean fritters were fried to perfection -- crisp on the outside, perfectly cooked and savory on the inside. I'm salivating writing this the following morning. The green pea ravioli was delicate and scrumptious, though (as with most ravioli in my experience) the portion was on the modest side. The purple bread (ube? purple sweet potato?) was SO GOOD. My god, I can't get over the bread spread. Order (for 2): - Bread service (complementary! can order more for $5) - Bean fritters (perfect, holy shit) - Green pea ravioli (scrumptious, small portion) - tonnarelli (jonah crab + breadcrumbs; very good)

Finally tried this place out. Grab ambiance and intimate experience. They def don't rush you even though it can get really busy. Rezzie is recommended and you can cancel close to time without fee but if no show, there's a fee. The pasta dishes are very flavorful. Their focaccia is amazing, I could eat that all day. We had the salad too and it was really good, even though I usually don't order salads at restaurants. We had a cacio e pepe and asparagus special and that was good, although cheese flavor is super strong. Salty and tangy. The tomato paste rigatoni was super good too and cooked to a perfect al dente. Want to try the bolognese next. This place preferences strong flavors I think. The ingredients on all their apps and pastas seemed like it. For dessert, they push a tray to you like old school restaurants in Italian. Like they would be behind glass and wood. They make all their desserts there which is impressive cause it's a large selection. Pistachio cake is def most ordered and super rich and nice. Would have tried another, but other guest was full. Great wine list and a decent amount of NA options. I'd go back.

Small Italian trattoria in crown heights that recently expanded and extended their restaurant to accommodate more. It was easy to get a reservation, and wasn't too crowded on a Sunday night, but I've walked past on a Saturday and it was filled to the brim, so better to make a reservation on peak days. The menu has a good selection or apps, pastas and plates. The focaccia in the basket is delicious and good to be dipped with the olive oil. The pastas were all solid, nothing too crazy but didn't quite fill us up. Flavors were good, but for the contents, the price was a bit steep. At the end, they rolled over a dessert cart filled with 8+ desserts to choose from. Cute spot for friends or a date night

Such a cute spot! Would recommend. The service was amazing. We loved everything! The fried artichokes were not great, we wouldn't order again. They just didn't have much flavor but the sauce was yummy.

We were so happy to get a table Sunday night. We popped in and there happened to be a couple openings. It's a small restaurant with a few communal high tops and little two-tops along the wall with banquette seating. It is really loud inside so just a note if you're taking your parents or are noise-sensitive. Service was friendly and efficient. Listen closely because the Italian accents are strong! The food was, of course, fantastic. We started with the tomato salad: perfectly tart vinegar dressing and the bacala: crispy-fried to perfection. Our two pastas were exceptional. In particular, the paccheri was unexpected and delicious. Briscola is now on the best meals list.

WOW! I just moved to the neighborhood and was beyond impressed by the food, service, and ambiance of this place. Every bite was sensational, every team member was welcoming and genuine, and even the regulars were friendly and pleasant to converse with. The olive oil was so incredible that I was asking about buying bottles to gift for Christmas! My bartender, Paul had great recommendations and did an excellent job at balancing his attentions with his guests at the bar and fulfilling his tickets for his servers. I can't wait to come back and try more on the menu!

Don't settle for New York faux Italian, come here instead. Briscola Trattoria has a pasta-focused menu with only two mains (a good sign). The dishes all came with generous portion, and our dining experience was great, thanks to the warm service staff and the cozy, vibrant space. The complimentary focaccia was fragrant and soft. We ordered: a barbaresco with a modest mark up, fried cod, beef carpaccio, squash ravioli, and squid ink spaghettone with clams and cuttlefish. I will come back for the sweet bread ragu and tiramisu!

Briscola Trattoria brings the warm, communal charm of an old-school Italian trattoria into the heart of Brooklyn -- but with a modern twist. The dining room has a rustic feel, but also a contemporary energy: wooden accents, soft lighting, and a relaxed-but-elegant layout. According to Time Out, the flickering candles and retro touches make the evening feel especially cozy and inviting. The restaurant also leans into fun: there's even a chalkboard with the rules for the Italian card game briscola, tying into the restaurant's name.

Overall it was good, but the combination needed better balance. The gorgonzola had a pretty aggressive bite, and paired with the saltiness of the prosciutto it became a little much. There were some greens underneath, and once I incorporated those into each bite, they mellowed everything out considerably. I actually think the greens needed to be treated as part of the dish rather than essentially garnish. For my entrée I had the special, a risotto with clams and octopus. The octopus was easily the best part. The clams were extremely small and pretty average, to the point that I'm not sure they added much to the dish at all. The risotto itself was also surprisingly bland and not particularly enjoyable on its own. Mixed with the octopus, however, it worked much better and became a genuinely enjoyable bite. That's ultimately where the dish felt a little uneven: the strongest component was carrying the rest of the plate rather than everything working together. Service was fine when I arrived, but became noticeably slower once the outdoor seating filled up. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor sections, but appeared to have only two servers, with the hostess also serving and a barback supporting the operation. Once the patio got busy, most of the staff's attention shifted outside and the indoor dining room received considerably less attention. Nobody seemed lazy or inattentive individually. It simply looked understaffed for the number of tables they were trying to cover. One additional server during the busy period probably would have made a substantial difference. And, admittedly a minor thing, an Italian restaurant having limoncello but no amaretto was disappointing. Nothing here was terrible. The appetizer had good ideas, the octopus was quite good, and the meal had several enjoyable moments. The food and service were just inconsistent enough that I couldn't quite call it a strong three-star experience, but it was close. I'd put it around 2.75 stars, which I'm comfortable rounding to three.

Of course, we did what we always do; showed up without a reservation haha... It was packed, and the hostess told us the was no way they could seat us. Defeated, we went outside ans sat on a bench trying to figure out our next move. Then the unimaginable happened. One of the people running the floor passed us outside, started chatting with us, and said, "let me double-check". A few minutes later, he came back and got us a table! He make sure we understood that we only had it for a short window bc they needed it back at a certain time -- but we got at least hour and a half to enjoy it so we were THRILLED. To us that was more than enough. He really went out of his way to make it happen, and honestly wish I remembered his name so I could give him the credit he deserves. And the service from there was outstanding. Even though we knew we had a time restriction, we never felt rushed or hurried for a second. Everything felt relaxed, attentive, and perfectly paced, which made them whole experience even better. Once we sat down, we started ordering as quickly as possible. The grilled clams were insanely good -- flavorful and with just the right little kick. The Nduja & sungold tomato toast was surprise favorite. The tomatoes were so juicy, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. Simple, but SO good. The little gem salad was fresh, crunchy and exactly what we needed in between all the richer dishes. For pastas, I had the mafaldini with parmigiano, one of their signatures, and it was delicious. BUT... I have to give the win to my husband's pick, rigatoni alla diavola. I know they are completely different dishes, and Im usually a white-sauce kind of girl, but there was something about that bold, spicy flavor that just HIT THE SPOT. And dessert... The vanilla soft serve gelato and the warm rasberry tart together were the perfect combination -- creamy, warm, fruity, and just the right way to finish our lucky dinner. Lilia was absolutely worth the wait and definitely lived up to the hype. Another Brooklyn spot checked off the list -- and one I'd happily go back to.

For mains: the sheep's milk agnolotti was not for me, it was oddly sweet, I'm honestly not sure why it's so popular. The rigatoni and gnocchi were very good - the rigatoni was perfectly al dente paired with good flavor and the texture of the gnocchi was perfect. Highly recommend ordering these. Dessert: they definitely don't skimp on the dessert, we each got our own but the gelato options were definitely shareable. They also had amaro options which I always appreciate but didn't get this time. The space was a little cramped indoors though that didn't bother me as much as the temperature. It was a really hot summer day and I don't think they had air conditioning? Or if they did it definitely was not at an ideal temperature as I didn't feel like there was much air circulation.

I can't say enough great things about the decor the ambience and imagining all of the past goings on in this restaurant. It's been watching over Brooklyn for well over 100 years now! That in itself is a Herculean feat! From what I was told it was very popular with the mob as they say... And that's why the kitchen which is at the very back of the restaurant has full glass windows so that you can see exactly what's going on in there. I guess some of these mob guys were paranoid and rightly so consider considering their history. I arrived with my friend on a Wednesday evening about 6 PM and there were some scattered tables but by 7 PM it was mobbed (pun intended ) in there!! our waiter was affable and patient and a quite enjoyable fellow. As a sidenote, you will not find any female servers they are all male which l lends to the old school vibe in my opinion. My friend ordered the lamb chops with broccoli Rabe. He enjoyed them but did mention that though they had great flavor one of them was slightly tough... It happens... My meal was pasta with Bolognese sauce with a dollop of fresh ricotta on top. It was delicious actually the sauce was excellent. I would've liked to have a different pasta shape but they did not have it. No biggie.
