The food is tasty, but not stand out amazing Italian, but, again, it's a no fuss spot to grab a bite and that counts for a lot sometimes. If you're coming for the pizza, the crust is thin and crispy (not thin and doughy) and it's important to know the difference! Let's talk pizza. Or, let's talk about Amorina Cucina Rustica. This restaurant was highly recommended by a waitress from a bar my friend & I visited while figuring out dinner plans. And I must add, she was so right. Located on Vanderbilt Avenue in Prospect Heights, this restaurant was a quaint mostly pasta and pizza joint. There were also appetizers such as soup and salads but we decided to pass on any starters. The atmosphere was certainly rustic and cozy made lovelier by our waitress --simply known as Z. She was not only helpful with answers to our questions but made recommendations with an air of confidence. We admitted we weren't keen on the wine selections by the glass. Not to fear--Z recommended the chardonnay! Say what!?!? I really dislike chardonnay---it is usually oaky and acidic. However, Z allowed us to taste it first and we were blown away. It was so delicious---from a region in Italy. In addition, a complimentary rosemary focaccia basket was brought to the table (with delicious olive oil) while we were still deciding what to choose among the varieties of pizza listed on the menu. I was torn between the Norma and Sicilian while the Zucchini was a non negotiable pick for my friend. We were also informed that the pizza, although thin crust, was 6 slices and satisfying. Keeping this in mind, my friend and I selected two varieties to share. We decided upon the Norma which was red sauce, eggplant, cheese and mint. Yes, mint and it was a lovely touch. The zucchini was white based with zucchini strings, basil pesto and mozzarella cheese --no red sauce. Opinion? I thought I died and went to heaven and that's when Z mentioned, welcome to heaven. This is our "treat" place when we are getting Italian takeout and in the mood to spend a drop more. Everything they make is delicious! My personal favorite is the decadent eggpant parmigiana. Oh, it is so cheesy and tomato-y and good! I also get their salad (the one with the chickpeas) a lot as a side--always very fresh, with tasty dressing. I tried a few different slices of their pizzas at a party a few months ago and told myself I must try the restaurant themselves, and that I did. Came around 9 on a Saturday night and the place wasn't busy at all surprisingly. Got an order of spaghetti and meatballs and two pies to share. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly and tossed with a fair amount of tomato sauce, meatballs were okay. Shared a diavola and margherita pie. Both were thin and pretty crispy. The diavola I found both times trying to be pretty spicy for my taste, my boyfriend who enjoys spicy food didn't agree it was THAAT spicy. This pie uses sun dried tomato sauce instead of the regular stewed tomato sauce, so when you first try it, it'll seem fryer than your regular pie, but not any less tasty. Margherita was solid, and I enjoyed the rich taste of tomato in their tomato sauce. A good meal. Pizzas are decently priced, I do think their pastas seem a bit pricey for the portions though. I've tried their other pies in the past, and totally love the potato one! Service was nice as well, they came to check on us pretty frequently. Hmmm, I see I posted a review of Amorina 10 years ago so it's probably time for an update. Bottom line: It's still five star worthy. When you consider how restaurants come and go in NYC and the Covid related restaurant casualty list, there's a reason why Amorina is still around. That's because it's still so consistently good. It has a neighborhood feel, because it's truly a neighborhood restaurant. The menu doesn't have a hundred items on it because the focus is on making the items that are on it - plus always a few specials - really good. The pizza is delicious and there's usually a pizza special that's worth trying. The salads and pastas are delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The ambience is simply delightful with a friendly and attentive wait staff, some music that's never too loud though always interesting (no piped in Sinatra), and you leave feeling happy. Though much of the experience was high caliber, there were some minor food issues that could be improved to make it even better! The olives were extremely soggy to the point they seems a bit old which was disappointing. I would have loved to been offered crushed pepper or cheese over my pasta dish, but it was still very tasty. The olive oil and bread, though satisfying, would be even better with a bit more seasoning on the bread and an offering of balsamic with the oil. I was prepared to do an about face when she seemed peeved at the thought of trying to bring a wheelchair in. You can't really help paralysis, can you? I had the pleasure of eating the mushroom pasta in tomato cream sauce. My husband knew it was great because I crushed it and was struggling to say,"You want to taste?" Because I wasn't really willing to share. He ordered and devoured the pizza diavola. My kids split the pizza margharita and enjoyed it as well. The space was little tricky to navigate a wheelchair through, but overall the servers became more accommodating as the evening went on. Prices were reasonable. Overall the experience reminded me a lot of Sicily, minus the rude look at the beginning. I'll be sure to return and give their tiramisu a go. read more

I've been meaning to review this place for a while as I've been here many times and have tried most of the pizzas and several salads. I haven't tried any pasta yet because every time I go I can't help but ordering pizza, which is absolutely excellent! The crust is flavorful with just the right amount of crispy, and the combination of toppings complement each other quite well - surprising to me given some of the unique ingredients. Came here after a nice stroll at the Brooklyn botanical gardens. Decided to check out the area. We ordered the carbonara pizza, see pic. It was so good. Also had the mushroom pasta. Ummm what? I'm appalled by how long the food took given the quality. It took us 45 min to get the appetizers, one being a salad and the other a simple tray of anchovies, capers and mozzarella... The lasagna was unevenly heated-- which means this must have just been reheated in the microwave? And I ordered fettuccine bolognese and got spaghetti, no one informed me of the last minute alteration but I was so hungry at that point it didn't matter. The sauce was OK, it didn't really taste that different from something out of a jar--same for the pasta. I don't know what caused the service to be so painfully slow -- even the bread came to the table with a 5 min wait for olive oil and balsamic. (is it that hard to bring them to the table together????) The wait staff were polite and seemed a bit stressed so I am appreciative of their effort. Don't order the mixed drinks (also took forever and wasn't even good) and maybe just order the pizza...the pasta was very ok. Truly disappointing as we always love Italian food. Let me preface my review by highlighting the fact that most of my reviews are 4&5 stars. Yelp has invited me to apply for Elite status. I've also worked in the restaurant business and I'm sympathetic to how hard it is to run a restaurant in a normal environment, let alone during COVID. We also tip generously even if service is just so-so, which it often is in general these days. That said, we were really disappointed in the food and quality of service tonight. The pizza was barely edible: flat, burnt, unevenly cooked (undercooked in some places). Our order was 30 minutes late. They had some problems with their oven tonight, which I understand, but here's what you do in this situation: 1. Taste/inspect the food. If the crust looks/tastes like cardboard, don't serve it. If it's burnt, don't serve it. Offer something else, like a pasta or calzone. Btw, the calzone was decent, but was supposed to come with sauce and didn't. 2. You offer to comp the customer in some fashion. I'm not suggesting the entire meal: even a soda would've been a nice gesture. It's not about the money, it's about empathizing with your customer. I can overlook the tiny portions. 3. You make the hard choice to shut down for the night. Not great, but at least your diners hang onto their money, eat somewhere else and come back another day. read more

An eclectic homey italian restaurant! Ordered the endive salad with goat cheese, beets, and orange vinegarette. Perfect balancedbeings of sweet, bitter, and sour! I don't like beets but they prepare theirs that taste like candy, healthy candy! Split the salad and the pizza with my partner. The pizza was also delicious! Thin crust topped with honey, figs, pear, and Gorgonzola. Its a must to dry if you love something sweet and salty. For dessert, the ricotta cheesecake is light and creamy. Not too heavy after a full meal. Its topped with rum soaked cherries and orange zest. I give this restaurant 5 stars for excellent dishes, polite non-overbearing service, and a family oriented feel! read more

I recently moved to the neighborhood and this is the go-to spot for me and my fiancee (who introduced me to it about a year ago) when we just want an easy, solid, delicious meal without frills, waits, or $200+ bills. The food (whether you're in the mood for a thin-crust pizza unlike any other in the city or a fantastic pasta dish) is exceptional, and they clearly put their heart and soul into the food. I would consider rating it 4.5 stars when they only served wine, no liquor. BUT NOW THEY HAVE COCKTAILS! Even if it's not on the menu, one of our usual servers (usually the long-haired funny guy whose name I can't remember, sorry!) has gone out of his way to mix up a fantastic old-fashioned on the fly. That's one example of their great service, but really all the folks who work here are awesome. I hate to give it 5 stars only because I'm afraid it'll become too popular. Sure, we've got the hip spots Olmsted and Maison Yaki right next door, and they're obviously great too, but for that easy and satisfying homestyle Italian experience, nowhere in the neighborhood beats Amorina in my book. Please don't decide to close shop and retire upstate because you've made a ton of dough (pun kind of intended) and just want to relax! Fresh salads, I really enjoyed my Chickpeas, baby arugula, red onions balsamic vinaigrette fresh and peppery, although I think should give a little more greens since it's a super simple salad. I arrived in Brooklyn at around 9:15 p.m. on a Thursday night. I was on Pacific time, so I was hungry for dinner and ordered take-out. I searched for pizza near where I was staying and Amorina fit my requirements. I called to order the Diavola (sSun-dried tomato pesto, spicy salami, fresh mozzarella, peperoncino), which Yelp reported to cost $12.00. The person who took my order on the phone said that it'd would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived within 15 minutes or so, paid, and left with a box of personal pizza. The food: It was delicious, but I could only finish half the pizza for some reason. Also, I should've spent more time reading the menu because after opening the box, I realized I should've gotten a pizza with at least some green on it. I should've gone with the Capricciosa (fresh mozzarella, sausage, artichokes, green olives, mushrooms, rosemary), which was reported to be $12.50 on Yelp. The cost: Contrary to what Yelp reported, the Diavola came out to about $15.00. The service: Ordering over the phone made it easy. They made sure I was coming to pick it up. The hostess pointed me to the counter in the back to pay and pick up my order. All the employees were pretty nice and welcoming. The facility: Super cute! I would've sat at the restaurant for my meal if it weren't 9:30 p.m. local time already. It'd be a nice date place. Payment: They take credit cards. I used a Visa gift card, so I can't speak to whether they take American Express or not. Overall: I recommend it if you're every in Brooklyn, craving pizza. read more

Service was borderline terrible. Chaotic for no reason. I think if they hired better staff all of that would go away. Food cold on top but warm/hot underneath.
