TL;DR There are better steak places in Bend that you can get better steak for less. The economy must be shit. Its a funny thing about going to a steak house and being disappointed even though you empty out your bank account. I say the economy must be shit because this place is charging HUNDREDS of dollars a person for the most meager portions. I am well aware of how expensive steak can be, but at least load on the sides! Anyway... I went here with a party of 5. I was the one not paying so I ordered the single least expensive thing on the menu: Fish and Chips. Everyone else got a filet mignon or rib eye (2 rare, 2 mid rare). When the food came to the table, there was a noticeable sense of shock at how small the portions were. Except my fish and chips, which was massive. I felt bad, cause I was the only one who actually was pleased with the way my plate looked. I also felt bad because it was the cheapest thing on the table. It was pretty good though. We had friends in from Canada and the gal wanted steak and potatoes! We got exactly what we wanted! She had the filet with mashed potatoes and a ceasar salad. I had the filet Oscar which was delightful. We started with the tempura zucchini which I did not expect to be that good!! Also started with the steamers and they were perfect!! Visiting Bend Oregon on a golf vacation. 4 of us stopped by this place for a nice dinner and was extremely dissatisfied. 3 of us ordered steaks, in which everyone of them was over cooked. I started off with a cocktail in which I hoped to order a bottle of wine, but unfortunately no server or manager ever stopped by the table until we were done eating. My wife and I had dinner last night with some close friends from Hood River. They were staying at the Oxford Hotel with their dog Lucy - Lucy is an English Springer Spaniel. We had reservations at the Brickhouse Steak & Seafood at 5:30pm and were lucky enough to grab a table outside for four. The Brickhouse is right across the street from the Oxford on the corner of 5 NW Minnesota St. and NW Lava Rd and although it is one of the best locations in town for a restaurant, over the years restaurants have come and gone. We have been fans of the Brickhouse for years and use to frequent their location in the Old Mill. I feel that the Brickhouse has the right combination of steak and seafood that really matches the décor and ambiance of their new location. Congratulations Brickhouse, you made the right move. Thanks for being a great part of our community. P.S. I had the porterhouse pork chop and my wife had the crab cakes; both were fantastic. I brought a bottle of Revana 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon which paired really well with our meals. Bananas foster for dessert. It was a great evening. read more

First Friday and the place want packed - should have known. Our service should have been stellar. We set down and had to wait for our waiter about ten minutes. Then he asked about drinks and took our drink order. Came back and forgot on persons beer (but didn't notice). Then asked about our order- my aunt asked about the specials of the evening. The waiter 'you didn't get those?'. He went through them flat with no marketing twist. How they were described did not sell it! One couple orders app, salad and steak. Asked for it all at once- but didn't come that way. Came in two courses. Oh and no beer yet. My husband orders seafood salad. Didn't come with dressing - had to ask four times before he got. We were almost done with dinner. He got free glass of wine but should have been a comp. Friends ordered steak med rare - it was more than rare. Baked potato was raw and cool. They didn't complain because last time they were there and did send food back meat came back burnt. Am I painting a picture- friends had experience similar. Service -!is why we as a party gave a 1 star. Food - halibut special amazing fish! Scallops s hit. Crab cakes - mediocre (but I'm a snob about crab cakes), seafood Louie salad in-inspired, how can you get halibut and scallops right (which is hard to do), but streak and potatoes you can't get right? We won't be back until a lot changes. And we live in Bend. There are other options that can figure out good food and service. read more

The home of the $100 hamburger. Don't let that dissuade you. They make a great hamburger, best in town. I think it's $14 and even though it isn't always on the dinner menu, it's always available at the bar. What brings us to the $100 mark is the delicious drinks that go with.......you don't have to do that. You can get out of there for much, much less. Means you will have missed out on experiencing the talents of their very talented bartender, but you will have still had the best burger in town. We are also partial to the curried mussels. We always sit in the bar area because the chances of getting a seat without a reservation are better in the bar. I'm not sure we've ever eaten in the dining room itself, although it's certainly nice enough. Great wait staff. We've had the pleasure of both Jeff and Julie waiting on us. My husband and I came here to celebrate our 4 year anniversary with our son. Horrible experience!! I want to start with the amazing part... hence the stars. The huckleberry lemon drop was delicious, the ambiance is very nice, the plate presentation was excellent! The Ahi was excellent, the hostess was sweet. But the service was HORRIBLE!! Natasha was our server and she took a while to get to the table, had zero personality, was not well spoken at all, good luck getting more than your first cocktail!!! Or more water. Needed more dressing, but she never came back to the table, dirty plates sat until 15-20 minutes later. I had to finally get up from the table to ask the manager (who was very nice) for our check! All the while we watched her wash dishes behind the bar. The zucchini and truffle fries are very greasy, do not get them! I used to manage a restaurant in Newport Beach for 13 years and this girl would be fired in a heartbeat! We also called for reservation at 7:00 and got voicemail so had to just show up. read more

In the time that I've lived in Bend, the corner location in the old firehall has seen the arrival and departure of Staccato (pretty good) and Bourbon St. Grill (disappointing). I've learned not to get too attached to restaurants in this particular location. I'm a bit unclear on what makes this location so tricky. Situated directly across the street from the stylish Oxford Hotel (and around the corner from the only downtown parking garage), any restaurant in this location should be guaranteed a steady stream of potential one-time customers. So, like any restaurant in a tourist-saturated area like, say, the Old Mill area, the restaurant could simply coast on its ambience and location while charging premium prices to visitors rather than locals. Brickhouse seems to be making an attempt to serve locals as well as unsuspecting tourists drawn to its exposed-brick charm. They have a varied menu of comfort food and a varied bar selection. Their drinks menu is delivered on an iPad, and their menus packaged in oversized heavy leather. It seems like a high-end restaurant, but there's something missing. Service is consistently... neutral. The entire team, from the maitre d' team to the servers, delivers not-friendly-but-not-unfriendly service. They get the job done, with courtesy due to a paying customer, but I've never felt any real warmth from any of the staff. This is the same kind of vibe that you'll find in any nicer airport restaurant: attentive but remote. I sometimes use this location as a happy hour destination for group outings. It's never busy at that time and they have a nice set of banquette tables that can handle a group that grows over happy hour. Their happy hour menu has a selection of straightforward, if uninspired, offerings like onion rings, shrimp cocktail, steak quesidillas, fries, and chicken skewers. None of it rings my foodie bells, but it's satisfactory for the price. If I had to characterize a decision-making hierarchy for downtown Bend right now, I'd suggest foodies go to Zydeco or 900 Wall for the best food and service, Toomie's for the best Thai, or Dojo for the most-interesting Asian fusion. I might end up at the Brickhouse if I couldn't find a space anywhere else and didn't have the energy to go elsewhere near to the downtown core, say, to Spork. read more

Great steakhouse. In fact I think of it as the only really dedicated steakhouse in Bend. The steak menu is very good. The best cuts and all the add-ons you would want. Their wine list is extensive and presented to you on an iPad which makes narrowing down your selection a breeze. We liked the wine we chose so much we ended up ordering a case from Fred Meyer the next day. The service has always been top shelf and the ambiance in the new Firehall location is very nice. I have only two nit picky points about our last visit. Our steaks were delivered to us on the luke warm side. Not cold. But they could have been hotter. Next, the noise level in the back room was a bit high. Once the bachelorette party left it was better but you could still tell it was an issue. We were planning on having another celebration there in a couple more days for another friends birthday. We are adult couple's... of course we'd want to split our checks. I had dinner here last week for the first time since they moved to the new location. The atmosphere is great, but I think they maybe are stretching themselves a little too much now. The service wasn't great like it used to be, in fact our server was down right annoying and overwhelmed. The food was just ok. I still haven't found an amazing steak in Bend, and I would say this one is good but extremely expensive. I am willing to pay a lot for an amazing steak, but when it's just ok I don't really like paying a premium price for it. They have a great drink menu, huge wine selection, decent beer selection(it's Bend, you have to have good beer), and a good bourbon list too. My wife and I decided it is a great place to catch a cocktail hour or do some apps, but the value just isn't there for the food so we will walk another block or two after drinks to get a meal we'll love. read more

I'm not entirely sure why there are so many 4-star reviews for a 5-star restaurant. Maybe they had to work out some issues? We ended up here on a Sunday night because our first choice, The Blacksmith, was not serving food after 8:30pm and my spouse steered us toward another restaurant - 900 Wall? It was around the corner and had pretty light fixtures - and didn't double-check the name of the restaurant so we unintentionally ended up at Brickhouse. And I am glad that serendipity intervened. Food was phenomenal, and our server (Aaron S.) knew where the ingredients were sourced and was eager to discuss the details. Nice! He was also patient. I had the seafood linguine, with the beef carpaccio to start. It would be very hard to order other things on the menu, now that I've had both these things, because they were outstanding and I'd want to order them again. Spouse had the ribeye and a wedge salad to start. This is where the patience of our server came in, because the spouse is verrrry particular about doneness, and the difference between rare/medium rare, and was waffling about what he'd eat to start with. So a sixty second order took about four minutes, and Aaron didn't even roll his eyes (which I was doing). Restaurant staff who deal well with our kid in the spectrum are a rare and wonderful thing. I was initially sure the woman who seated us was giving us attitude, but I may have been overthinking things and every staff member was wonderful. They were all dealing with some drunks on a Sunday night. And this was the most impressive part: They were accommodating with the slurring group of wine-guzzlers sitting outside on the sidewalk, but I watched them very nicely cut them off. Very well-handled, very professional. Most restaurants would have just 86'd this group, or put up with the obnoxious jerks as the other customers were scared away. And, again, this was a Sunday night. Who the hell gets sh*t-faced on a Sunday night? The space is flipping gorgeous, too. It may get loud at times, just from the acoustics. Seems like a minor negative. This is the sort of place that would do well in Mill Valley or Santa Monica. We have yet to have a mediocre meal in Bend, but this place is our favorite so far. read more

Host counter was friendly. Stopped in without a reservation. Only had a 10-15 minute wait on a busy night downtown on a Saturday. Food was amazing. I had a seafood pasta that was packed with seafood. More than I expected to see in it. I would come back solely on the food. Our waitress, Carol was the downer in the night. Never really asked us what we wanted for drinks. My GF had to ask her for hers. She brought us drinks that we didn't order.. She was supposed to bring out another menu. She then returned in a lengthy time to take our order. Once that came out, we seen her once. She didn't bring our food or our drink. She took our order, checked on us once and then had to be asked for our check. This was a random stop for us, didn't know where we would end up at. It says casual attire.. We might have been a little under dressed, but if that is why she treated us that way, then she knows why she got the tip she did. I watched the waiter serving tables around us.. This place is a five star establishment. No gluten free menu but they were able to tell me what I could eat and made me a GF dish that was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Very specialized and the meat was extremely high quality. We ate the Filet Mignon Oscar with crab. We added shrimp to it and also a side salad. Cocktails too. ALL delicious. Spent quite a bit of time with the manager (Thomas) who shared his goals for quality and great dining experiences. What a great guy! Also, for the price of the meals, a table cloth would be appropriate in order to have the silverware kept clean on a table that has been repeatedly wiped with a restaurant cloth several times. Sadly the $5 HH apps menu is no longer. prices are back up to $7 to $9 for most items. not such a great deal now. especially since portion size seems to be at the $5 size. Wish they would hit the dishes coming out of the fryer with some salt. Either there's a new person on the fryer, or they don't salt things on purpose. On different visits, my tempura zucchini and my truffle fries didn't have a trace of salt on them. Calamari are well seasoned, though. We went to Brickhouse last night for our anniversary. I've loved it for years and am particularly fond of the blue cheese olive martinis. We each had one of those and they were fine. We had a Caesar salad and a wedge salad that were both very good. After that we decided to split the blackened ribeye and asked for medium rare. It was a little tough and there was not much seasoning on it. So I would say it was ok. My biggest rub with this really high-priced, supposedly high-end restaurant is that we were totally rushed through this meal! While our server was good and personable, the salad came while we were still sipping martinis, and the steak came while we were still eating salad. Not a moment after we finished our last bite a busser came and cleared everything and we never saw our server again. We were never offered desert and had to go pay up at the reception stand after waiting several minutes. The experience sucked. We totally got the bums rush and we wont be going back. My pasta primavera was simple and full of colorful roasted vegetables, my date's Caesar salad was perfectly dressed and the chicken added was quite flavorful. The chocolate lava cake was served straight from the oven - hot and gooey. You know those times when you just want to find a classic white t-shirt or simple black dress to wear?
