Blacksmith is definitely one of the busiest restaurants in Bend, so I highly recommend making a reservation! We didn't have one and ended up waiting a little over an hour for a table. Thankfully, they let you add your name to the waitlist so you can explore downtown Bend while you wait, which worked out perfectly since it's surrounded by cute shops and walkable streets. We came here to celebrate our two year anniversary, and it was the perfect date night spot. The atmosphere was warm, dark, and romantic with a rustic Western inspired feel that felt not overdone but fit Bend perfectly! For dinner, we ordered the scallops with the squid ink pasta. The scallops were perfectly tender, and while the pasta was a little on the greasy side, it was still packed with flavor. We also had a salad and the beef carpaccio to share. The carpaccio was delicious, though I think it would have been even better with a different type of crackers since the ones served were a bit too hard. I'm a "meat & potatoes" guy. I can cook too! Except for my Birthday. I heard good things about "The Blacksmith" and made a reservation. I show up, had a great table, great drinks, food and dessert too. I had the "PAC. Northwest Ribeye, horseradish mashed potatoes, with the house sauce (mushroom). The steak was AMAZING! (You can have the sauce on the side, but why?) The thick (14oz.) steak laid half over the mashers, and sauce all over which is how I liked it. The mashed potatoes had the perfect blend of horseradish (not overpowering) that went well with my medium-rare steak. It was delicious and, boy I was full! Parking was like (well, you know Bend!) reasonable (no reflection on the restaurant) get there early and stake your claim! The service was amazing, the food was awesome (my steak was flavorful, juicy, and cooked to perfection!). Price $$$ It is what you'd expect for such a fine dining experience! My drink was (I can't remember the name) but was a crushed berry, whiskey, mint leaf, on ice, but very tasty! I want more! My husband brought me here for our wedding anniversary and it was so so so amazing inside. The brick, wood, leather, and glass definitely captured my attention. The vibe was on point! We enjoyed four different kinds of mocktails off of the menu and each one had incredible flavor profiles. I had the kobe beef ribeye special with Jerusalem artichokes and he had the prime rib. Both of us were so pleased with our steaks and we're really actually pretty picky about our beef. ALSO! I am a connoisseur of crème brûlée, I've had it all over North America and this is the best one I've ever had. Hands down. Most excellent and delicious soup. Then my wife and I shared the crab cakes. $42 for two cakes, certainly pricey - and MOST disappointing. Did not taste of anything. Seriously, worst crab cakes ever. Then I opted for Steak & Fries - 14oz Ribeye. At $78 I expected a decent steak. Rare. I did not expect an almost golfball size piece of gristle in the steak and the steak was closer to blue than to rare, but not going to fault them there, just the quality of the steak surprised me. I use a more defined rating as I believe there is a very large difference between a 4 and 5 star rating! Similar to magnitude when rating an earthquake. Overall Blacksmith rates a 4.2 star experience, a good experience overall with some room for improvement. The Blacksmith it appears has built the menu to highlight steaks within an Irish pub-like ambiance, cozy to degree. I sat at a high table for two. Comfortable enough with fairly close proximity to other tables in this area (smaller parties of 2.) The meal started with a Cesar salad, accompanied by three cheese curd, fried on side and softer inside and a cheese infused thin biscuit of sorts. These were more pleasant to view than on palate. Minimal taste, however, they added a bit of crunch to an othwise over-saturated salad. I ate 55% of this mediocre presentation. Less dressing with a side of dressing perhaps and fresher salad would make a positive difference? The old fashion drink was very good, quality bourbon (Buffalo Trace) a nice presentation. The main course the Northwest Ribeye was cooked to order, medium rare with a large portion of garlic mashed potatoes. Only one bite of steak couldn't be chewed, gristle. The au juice/Demi glaze, was dark without a dominant taste. Could be room for improvement here? Potatoes were a bit overwhelming in quantity and the texture was too smooth. Some pieces would add required texture and make them more palatable. I arrived when they opened so the service was good not impacted by multiple tables and ordered first or nearly. We had some good carpaccio, and then a Caesar salad with the addition of crab and veggie stir fry which was excellent. Great first-night dining experience last night! The Kobe filet was outstanding! Three of us had Kobe filets cooked perfectly. As far as sides, we loved the mashers, mac and cheese, and French fries--all were excellent. Rosemary bread was good and warm, too. Overall, my experiences here over the last few visits have been good. One of the waitresses was especially wonderful with my son on his birthday--she went above and beyond to make it special for him, which I really appreciated. I do feel it's a bit pricey for what you get, and I wish the menu changed more often to keep things interesting. Still, I find myself coming back about 2-3 times a year. We visited the restaurant in October and had a good experience, so we were looking forward to coming back but our visit last week didn't live up to what we remembered. The waitstaff were wonderful, but the food was less than mediocre. Our group had four people. Food: Several dishes were served cold. The steak bites had an odd texture, and the sauce was extremely salty. It made me wonder, did they use poor quality concentrated beef bouillon from the store? The Chicken Marsala was the least enjoyable version I ever had. The seared scallops lacked flavor and weren't very appetizing, partly because they were cold. The Brussels sprouts was mostly burnt leaves. Since we hadn't eaten much of our meals, we were hoping dessert would make up for it. Dessert: 6. The Bananas Foster we tried in October was warm, flavorful, and delicious. This time, it seemed like a different dish entirely: cold pieces of banana bread topped with ice cream, and what appeared to be spray whipped cream. From our arrival forward we were treated so well. We didn't get reservations where we originally planned and we ended up so, so glad we ate here instead. The menu is original and so well executed. We each got steak which was perfectly cooked with great flavor. The drinks are so tasty, with house made bitters. Our server Grace was fun, professional, personable, knowledgeable, and the perfect balance of present but not over the top. The building is indeed an old blacksmith building and Grace gave us some of the history of it. It's beautifully and simply decorated. All in all a 10/10 experience. Amazing experience! I sat at the bar, staff was very welcoming and helpful. To start I ordered the Cheese Plate.. it was very good and the prosciutto was salty and greasy and porky in a really good way. Was really good paired with the toasty bread and apple-jam. All cheeses were awesome too. I decided to treat myself and get the Blacksmith Signature Tomahawk 115/130 -medium to medium well, with a side of asparagus and a baked potato. Presentation was amazing, meat was extremely soft and tender, had a great grilled taste. The Demi & bearnaise sauce was excellent! Sweet, but also savory. I am normally not a fan of fat, but the fat on this steak melted away. I also enjoyed a few glasses of Hennessy and ended up meeting a friend there who got a Surf & Turf 66... I of course tried and that too was really good. I can't wait to return to this restaurant again. Nice environment, super cozy, dark, but not too dark. It is on the higher end side, so be prepared to spend a good penny! :) I ended up meeting the chef to give him his props and he was super nice and willing to meet with me even though he was busy. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and decided to give this place a try as we aren't from the area but were visiting family that lives in neighboring area. Reservations we pretty easy to set (OpenTable) and planned out a couple of weeks in advance. It was a Friday early evening reservation. We were seated with no issues - back of the restaurant where it was quiet. We had a party of 5 - including one teenager. It's spendy but overall the quality of food was top notch, menu's had endless options & styles (al a carte) service was attentive and friendly. Especially enjoyed the steak & fries, Tillamook Mac n cheese, both potato options (horseradish mashed potatoes & warm potato salad). It's quite the distance (almost 175 miles) from where I live but if in the area I would go back and split a bunch of al a carte options with my meal companions! We've enjoyed The Blacksmith several times in the past, but our recent Friday night dinner was a letdown. The restaurant was only half full, yet service was inexplicably slow. It took forever for our waiter to even greet us--I'd already gone through two water refills by the time he arrived. Food took over 45 minutes, and when it finally came, everything was brought out at once: the tuna appetizer, strawberry salad, and my pork chop. The tuna appetizer is uncooked and should be a quick turn item. Worse, the pork chop was badly burned on the bottom. I sent it back, but the replacement took additional time, throwing off our entire meal. Let me note that it's the first time I've ever sent back food, so it took a lot for me to do this. What really stung was the lack of care from the staff. Our waiter did apologize and take care of getting the food re-fired, but nothing was offered to try to make up for the terrible experience. If this had been our first visit, we wouldn't return. Not sure if management or staffing has changed, but the quality and hospitality we remembered were missing. Favorite martinis in Bend! We love their drink menu (especially the Thai One On cocktail- so unique, a tiny bit spicy, and creamy). We love to come here and sit at the bar. The staff is great and the food is consistent. We love their Caesar and any of their steak dishes with their homemade sauces like the green peppercorn Demi or caramelized onion Brie. The chicken marsala was really bad and for $45 dollars. The marsala sauce tastes like teriyaki sauce, and was basically eating just the chicken to get rid of the other flavors. We were told there wasn't enough servers so we had to sit at the bar, then watched all the servers chat with their friends and had to listen to the bartender flirt with at least 5 different girls. Since he was busy flirting one of their customers got locked out while it was pouring rain and I let her back in. This was our first trip into Blacksmith. The ambiance is nice in the restaurant. It's rustic feel and darker atmosphere is great for a date night or anniversary. Value is low and its prices do not match it unfortunately. Food is definitely 3 out of 5, (generously) Service in the bar area was slow it was 5pm on a Saturday with a handful of others tables but by no means packed. Which at a place with higher prices, quality service is KEY as well as mouth watering food. Left only eaten 1/2 our meal, and eating something else at home now a few hours later as it was just not satisfying or something good enough to want to eat the left overs. There are different steakhouses in bend with better value. We did not have an awful experience but know a handful of other establishments and a couple down town that'd have left us saying how good it was on a review instead of mediocre. It was my girlfriend's birthday and we were in Bend for a beautiful and wonderful weekend getaway. I researched steakhouses and I chose the Blacksmith for birthday dinner. When walking into the restaurant you are instantly greeted and it feels like you are in a very classy restaurant but not too classy... The decor is very steakhouse setting, high chairs, white cloths, was perfect. We ordered an appetizer, we both had steaks which grilled to perfection. My girl and I each had drinks that were mixed amazingly. We are both foodies, we love going to steakhouses for special occasions or just whenever we travel, both of us agreed that Blacksmith was one of our top 5 that we have been to. So I (we) definitely would recommend this to anyone traveling or visiting Bend and I for sure would go back when I am in town and have the time... If you're willing to spend a little extra, this restaurant is a perfect place for special occasions or just for an amazing meal. The ambience is smooth and classy. Our server, Dawn, was incredibly friendly and helpful when it came to discussing the various menu items. Everything we had was amazing. The herb bread has a crunchy crust with a soft and warm inside. The aroma is amazing and incredibly enticing, so much so I could've eaten it all on its own; however it comes with an amazing balsamic and mustard dipping sauce. We started with their beef carpaccio; which again was amazing. Roasted capers offer an amazing salty acidity that is complemented with the richness of aioli. Texturally complex as well between the softness of the beef and arugula against the crunch of the toast. We were incredibly tempted by the tomahawk, and I think we will get this the next time we visit; but we ended up having 2 separate meals. My wife had the Northwest Ribeye, which was impressively large but was a little more fatty yet still incredibly soft. I had the surf and turf, with a beautiful filet that absolutely melted in my mouth. My only criticism was for the seafood. Although the shrimp was beautifully cooked and still retained its fresh bite to it. However I found the crab and scallops flavorful but lacking? I expected the scallops to be full scallops; however they were more like bay scallops. Similarly I expected it to be chunks of crabs; but it was shredded. The Blacksmith has always been the go-to steakhouse for our family until recently. We had company in town for three weeks and visited The Blacksmith twice during this time. The first visit, our server was great however, the filet was subpar and cold. Friends wanted to try again, so we went last Friday evening. Our server was the GM's daughter, which explained why she was "the life of the party" by being loud, performative and frankly, inappropriate, and why the other servers were giving her the side-eye. Our prime rib was not cooked to order, tough, cold, and the dessert brownie (in an attempt to save the dinner), was frozen solid and the entire experience felt like we were at Sizzler's Steakhouse. While the GM came over to apologize and inform us that her daughter was our server, it all made sense...So, Todd and Necole Bardwell, your restaurant is suffering and it makes sense why your only patrons are visitors to Bend and not your local community you actually would have to answer to.
