This is a nice little bar with an awesome selection of bourbons. My husband and I walked by and saw some people sitting at the bar. We grabbed two seats, and I could see my husband's eyes checking out every inch of the walls of bourbon. Like a kid in a candy store, he started with a Woodford, then a Kobb Creek, and finished with a Blanton's. I had a cider and thought about how everyone was so friendly. Like a real locals bar. With an enormous selection of whiskey/whisky and other spirits, they'll have what you want. - It's a tight, intimate space. Smallish bar; close table seating. The covid pandemic kept me out of Stihl for literally years for that reason. Before last night, I believe the last time I dropped in was for the Yelp Elite event a hundred years ago (I lament the fact that Yelp dropped Bend from its cities with a CM). That said, if you're looking for an intimate setting, here it is. Just arrive early to get a good seat. - Not noisy, at least not from the too-loud music which seems to plague many establishments. - The have a small menu that includes appetizers and entrees. I've had a couple of the apps and the roasted beet salad. - Do note the opening time of 5PM. That's not the norm in Bend and I bet lots of folks stop by in the early afternoon to find it closed. - Service in the few times I've been has been friendly and professional. Last night's server duo was top tier. Not gonna lie - I'm disturbed by what I read in some of the recent reviews such as from Sharon R. This was a nice find during walkabout in downtown Bend. A nice modern style bar, it had an amazing selection of whiskey, bourbon, scotch. They also had some amazing craft cocktails to offer along with food items. The bartenders/servers were very friendly and knowledgeable about what they had on their menus and offered great advice if looking to try something new. Ahh whiskey, the water of life. Did you know that distillation has been around for centuries? It has. Did you know there are over 2,200 distilleries in the USA according to the all-knowing World Wide Web? Pretty cool, huh. We strolled into the bar, there are 5 of us (ohhh what pretty heaters outside!). Seating is limited but, lucky us, a bigger table opens up right as we arrive. I think they call a space this size "intimate" which is a nice way of saying it's, errr, not large at all. The menus are pretty sweet & actually lists the prices of the whiskies which most places do not do because whiskey can be stupid expensive. Peep the menu here (sorry, forgot to take pics) and check out the $300+ pours. Now, don't get me wrong, this place isn't all insanely priced things, I mean we found a whole section of the menu in our poor people budget. I just appreciated the honesty for once. I hate going to a place and seeing "ask bartender for pricing" on a spirit. Why. Why do I have to ask. I'm the customer here. You are supposed to do things to sway me to spend more of the money that I don't have, not turn me off instantly with a command to seek out prices. Anyway, the whiskey is delicious. We laugh and chat and enjoy the large table we managed to grab before the place fills entirely. Now, the waiter, he could definitely use some brushing up on people skills. Idk his name, I didn't bother to catch it, but he seemed relatively uninterested in my entire party and didn't know how to adjust his face to make it seem like he even pretending to cared. This is the first bar we every visited when we first came to Bend 6 years ago, and it is still our favorite. Not being super knowledgeable about Whiskey, I love that it is not pretentious at all - they do a great job making you feel comfortable asking questions. It feels like a cozy, neighborhood spot - and we love the manager Davidson (he is hilarious). We have gotten into some great conversations with the owner and just other customers sitting at the bar. I used to frequent the Stihl Whisky Bar and was recognized by staff and treated as a good customer. One night having mixed medication I was overserved and acted in a way that was not professional on my part. However, got no support from the staff, although both Davidson and Josh know me well. They did put me in an Uber to get me home, but since that time I have been shunned. I take full responsibility for mistaking the ability to handle the medication with alcohol, but was disappointed that my fellows who I thought were friends did not look out for me and treat me in a better way. I still like the place, but MANAGEMENT needs to do a better job of training and working with the staff to support long-term customers that may have a bad experience one night and they are with respect and safely and securely given transportation to their home home read more

I was surprised by this place! It was delicious. We had the parm tots and steak bites to start. Both were good! I have never had deep fried steak but it was good. We got burgers and a breakfast burrito. The burger was top 5 burger I have ever had. Moist and great flavor! My friend got the breakfast burrito, while I do think this is random, he said it was good and not just packed with egg. We got whiskey sours which we LOVED!! We have gone to this establishment for years on date nights. Last night we came in very late but the kitchen was open still. We ordered steak frites, cheese bread, and the tots. In the past these items have been delicious. Last night our full order was returned. The steak was as rough as leather. The tots had a gallon of salt on them and the cheese bread was cold and rubbery. All four of us were disappointed. The menu here is pretty amazing so it was sad to see how the actual menu items were horrible. I hope they can get a better cook. Other than that the service and everyone was pretty wonderful. Please make the food better!!! At one point I would have argued that the tots were the best in Bend. read more

Gather round, let me tell you a story. I came to Bend in October 2022 to tour some homes with my roommate, and we were having a fantastic time. 'What better way to celebrate such a successful outing than a nice whiskey bar?' we thought. Little did we know. At first, the wee bartender baring a man bun appeared neutral. Not friendly, but neutral, if a bit drunk on the job. That neutrality swiftly evaporated once he saw my out of state license. He was quite rude, and again, seemingly drunk on the job. It took us a short lifetime to receive our beverages, and I had enjoyed about two sips of my cocktail prior to the incident. This was when I made a critical error. I dared to speak to somebody sitting next to me. I was previously unaware that social interaction warrants expulsion at Stihl Whiskey. I spoke to this person because she was obnoxiously ripping her vape, without even a shred of shame, nor a modicum of respect for those of us sitting down wind. Though, I was not rude. I simply sought the knowledge of a local in finding points of interest in what is now my new home. So began my first and only experience of being kicked out of a bar. The diminutive twit then approached me from behind and thrice uttered the phrase "She's not going to f*** you!" - Which was so beyond out of pocket I genuinely thought he was joking. I actually laughed. I don't know how he could have gotten that impression from my asking "What is there to do around town, we're thinking of moving here?" That's not exactly a pickup line. Needless to say, once I turned and saw his tiny snarl I knew I was hosed. First and only time I've ever been kicked out of a bar - and I was completely sober. I wish I could speak to the efficacy of their cocktails or food, but I was escorted out before I really got the chance to form any sort of opinion. Long and short of it - that bartender needs to be fired. Amazing how many other one star reviews on here seem to be about that guy in particular. read more

I was walking around Bend when I first got into town, and happened to see the brunch menu posted outside this place. What caught my attention was the Banana Fosters French toast plate. At that moment I found my gastrointestinal brunch mission that weekend. Needless to say it was everything I thought it would be. If I were to eat this on a weekly basis, I would probably die of type2 diabetes in a matter of years. But it would have been worth it. The place is exactly how a whiskey bar should be. Super chill atmosphere at Stihl Whiskey Bar I'm very happy my friends took me here! It's a nice and dark place with decent seating but gets packed quick so you know this place is a local favorite. I went with a total of 5 people and the waitress let us push together two high tables so we could fit, I forgot her name but she was very nice and attentive even in a full house. I ended up getting wellers and the rest of the party got cocktails which I tried and were very good. We shared the Parmesan tots and sweet potato Fries and were very good especially since I'm not a fan of sweet potato I would get them again! Over all a good experience, good service, good eats and good drinks. Definitely worth checking out if you have never been! read more

We visited Stihl one evening on the recommendation of our hostess as Drake, as we waited for our table to be ready. Service, selection and vibe were all excellent. Both our bartender and server were very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu choices. We enjoyed their craft-made cocktails and wine recommendations. The space is filled with great places to enjoy the experience, from high-top tables to couches and the 90-degree bar. I will give this place a NO STAR! We were in town for the weekend and went to this bar for the whiskey selection. We sat at the bar and were NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED (for at least 30 minutes) by the bartender. We asked the waitress to help us, which she did (AND WAS FANTASTIC!!) while the bartender was shooting the sh&t with someone else. The bartender worked the whole bar but us. The bartender still, after sitting at the bar for 45 minutes STILL NEVER came to check on us. Checked on his buddy, right next to us but never checked in with us. We asked the sweet waitress to put in another order for us which she did but the bartender refused to fill our order. I've been patronizing The Stihl since they opened and it remains on of my fav Bend spots. They got the Whisk(e)y down. Done: The menu is good. I prefer the Steak Fingers (I always call them Frites for some reason). They come fried by default but you can get them grilled. My choice is grilled. And as of now (Aug 14 2020) they are serving Brunch Thursday-Sunday 10am-2pm So the menu is fantastic but a lack of interest in the Sous-vide Tri-Tip has sidelined it as an option which was a devastating Brunch break for me. Which I am recovering from thru Mezcal-Chorizo Red-Eye Gravy on Biscuit. Really though check out the Brunch here and request a return of the Sous-Vide Tri-Tip, for the sake of Brunch everywhere. This is a quaint local hang with great bar staff. On Saturday night it got pretty packed but people made accommodations to scoot over. We ended up having conversations with 4 different people around us. The bartenders were friendly and informative. They were happy to answer questions about whiskeys and bourbon. They even gave my husband some free samples. The food was delicious. I got fish and chips and my husband got a brisket sandwich. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because our food took 40 minutes to come out. I would definitely come back to this spot if in the area again. read more

This is a good example of how service at a place impacts peoples judgement in spite the place itself could be good . We came in around evening were seated and then for a long long time nobody cared to take our orders. I finally walked to the bar and asked them if we need to order at the bar at which point the bartender told us that he will have someone over to take our orders .we got the Penicillin , Apple Pie sour , Pear to the people and Vieux carre. All the drinks tasted fantastic and the atmosphere was relaxed and casual. They do have a big selection of whiskeys and I would love to go back to try some out , when I am in Bend next. They could definitely do better with their service as the bar itself is cool however the cold attitude and the slowness is a put -off . read more

Birthday gone a-rye! This HAD BEEN one of our favorite places to come when we come into town (from Idaho) to visit my daughter, son-in-love, & our grandkids. Last night we went to celebrate birthdays, my son-in-loves last night and my husband's last week. What could have & should have been a nice night celebrating was ruined by the HORRIBLE service and mediocre food. Given the supply shortages & employee staffing problems post COVID we could have overlooked those issues, however...when I first walked in, ahead of the family (who were getting the girls from the car & walking from a block away, ) I stood in the entrance by the bar for about ten minutes waiting to be acknowledged but was ignored. The place was not yet too busy, we got there at 6:30. When "he" (no name tag) finally glanced over I was told to seat myself (in a rude tone) so I asked where a party of 6 could sit because the spot we normally were seated was taken and there were only tables for 4, except the one marked reserve in the corner. When I asked about sitting there"He" replied that it was for 6 or more, ummm we are six...so he grumbled "okay, go ahead" (very reluctantly) We all settled into the front booth and waited...and waited...and waited while "he" served everyone else at the bar and the other tables, even those who came in after us. When "he" finally came over, giving us about 30 secs (and I'm being generous), he walked away saying he'd come back....after a long while "he" did. Had he left us menus we might have been able to at least be making up our minds, that would have been helpful. For a Whiskey bar, they were out of everything my husband & son-in-love asked for and "he" wasn't interested in suggesting anything else. My daughter (29) forgot to bring her ID so he couldn't/wouldn't serve her (which we understood) but he didn't even ask her (with two kids in tow) or me if we wanted food and started to walk away again. "He" totally ignored us and I had to blurt out, "I'd like chicken fingers, please" & again starting to walk away my daughter says "do I have to have an ID for food, too or can I order?" He never even asked if we'd like something for the kids. We normally order double the amount of food but "he" took no interest in sticking around long enough to hear our order or offer suggestions. The food which is normally VERY good, was not its usual...the hamburgers the guys ordered well well done, not medium, our steak & chicken fingers were over over done, almost burned and the sauce which is normally the best part, wasn't this time. Perhaps due to a staffing issue, which again we might have been able to overlook with a little courtesy from the server. My husband & son-in-love only got one drink when the bartender/server came and asked if we'd like our tab. We had done nothing to warrant this attitude. The men even said that it seemed he had a problem with women because his rudeness was mostly toward my daughter & I. I have never before left a zero tip, tonight was a first... as "he" gave us zero interest or service and "he" was rude & showed no courtesy and gave us horrible customer service...a service for which "he" is clearly not cut out to do!! I left him a note explaining that we normally tip 30 percent or better and why he wasn't given one tonight. We left, very disappointed, walked across the street to another favorite place, McMenamins, and ordered drinks there and had a much more enjoyable experience even thought they also were short staffed!! We will call ahead, if there is a next time, to see if Nikita is serving before going, because though slammed the last time we went, SHE did a fabulous job! The service here is absolutely awful. It took nearly 30 minutes for the server to take our drink order and about another 15 minutes for them to come back for our food orders. This was during a time when they only had a handful of other patrons. In addition to that, they kept forgetting what we ordered and kept coming back for clarification. The waiter was taking orders on his hand, which was probably the reason for all the issues. In total it took about 2 hours for our food to arrive. And the food was not worth the wait. The food is heavy and greasy. Although I will admit their tater tots were rather tasty. Will likely not return read more
