We went there tonight for drinks before dinner and I wish we didn't have dinner reservations at a different place because the cocktails and apps were sooooo delicious!!! The vibe was so fun and friendly. They were sold out to reservations due to the great live music but happily sat us outside where we could hear the music great but still have a conversation. The server was slammed but still managed to be attentive and very thoughtful. I can't say enough about the cocktails so well balanced. The smoke show is my new favorite cocktail. We tried two of the bruschetta which where an A+. The server had them cut in half so we could each try the delicious flavors. Little touches like that really made the service stand out. Along with the server the host was making sure we had everything we needed even though they were so busy. Can't wait to go back and try a full meal! read more

I visited Portello Wine & Spirits a few weeks ago while in Bend for a night out with friends--and WOW, what a find! I come to Bend pretty often and usually hit up my usual spots, but this was my first time at Portello, and I'm so glad we stumbled across this hidden gem. Located in the super charming Northwest Crossing neighborhood, Portello has such a cool, loungy vibe. The velvet furniture, the lighting--it all just works to create a stylish but relaxed atmosphere. It felt like we'd discovered a little secret. I had a few cocktails (okay, maybe more than a few), and everything was perfection. I especially loved that they had a Black Manhattan on the menu - so classic & well made. We also shared a few dishes - I absolutely loved the Moroccan Roasted Carrots. The Peach Champagne Burrata was another favorite, light, fresh, and perfectly Summer. And the Ahi Crudo Tower was gorgeous. The staff was awesome--super friendly, attentive, and clearly enjoying what they do. I'll definitely be coming back next time I'm in town. My coworkers and I visited Portello while in town for work. As soon as you walk in, you are captivated by the beautiful details of the space. The ambiance was classy and inviting. You instantly are drawn in by the welcoming staff and owners who put a lot of heart into this lounge. They were hosting an Alzheimer's Association fundraiser and had fun gifts, specialty cocktail, and musical bingo! The food and drink were deliciously comforting. This is a lovely wine bar and has a great menu. The reason I am rating it low is for ambience. I came here to see some live music and it was so loud - everyone was talking so loudly, as if no no one wanted to listen to the performer. What was most annoying is the owner or manager had the 2 tables around us and they were the loudest ones. He was talking SO LOUDLY, it was so rude to those of us around him and to the singer. It felt disrespectful to the entertainer and disruptive to any neighboring table. The other table was a group right in front of the entertainer and they got so loud talking to each other. It was so distracting and ruined our experience. It's a wine bar, I'd expect a quieter atmosphere. Again, lovely place, just not a great experience. read more

We have been trying desperately to give this place a chance. The first time was ok, had a girls night there years ago, second time the hostess/waitress was completely rude since we walked in and sat down in the old couch area, we (by mistake missed the sign) and she was so rude to us that we left....then a couple nights ago, we went in ordered a couple of the appetizers which were small and were missing ingredients, when we explained to the server not only did she look annoyed but then charged us for the ingredients that were missing, charged us an extra 20 dollars...this place is pretentious, overly expensive for the food and wine that they serve. The employees make it extremely uncomfortable, and they act entitled. We had friends in town, and it was just an embarrassment for us since we wanted to show them some fun and good food, we will not be going back. read more

BEFORE the new owners, we loved Portello. It was our go-to neighborhood, favorite place. Last night was awful! The service was TERRIBLE. The server was overwhelmed, in her defense, forgot our olives, which by the way, USED TO BE complimentary under the former owners. It took forever to get our wine and food. She never asked if we wanted another glass of wine, which we did but after experiencing the crummy service, we were afraid it would take another 30 minutes just to get it. The 'house salad' with our sandwich was nothing but a partial bag of lettuce with some oil on it. Sadly, we will forego another visit until the place takes on a resemblance of the wonderful wine bar it used to be. read more

I think that was the business plan since day one in 2006 and we've been there since day one thankfully and not much has changed. Short Answer: YELP Yes but pick your time. Location: NWX, does not get much better than this. Very relaxed, comfortable seating options with hi-tops, low-tops, stuffed chairs and a few couches. If you show up on Mondays, be there early like 3:50pm or good luck finding a seat, all wine is $5 a glass and we like our wine and there are a lot of us ; o Ambiance: Awesome, romantic and pretty quiet most of the time, except Mondays! Outdoor seating is great. Menu: An excellent happy hour then main menu items with bruschetta, soups, salads, and panini. Great lunch specials Wednesday to Saturday with $5 wine options. Food: Excellent, it really is all good. Nothing is exceptional and it does not need to be. Wine: Very good selections with take home bottle or case options of many wines on display. Service: As good as it can be, knowledgable waitstaff and when it is slower, service is spot on but when they get slammed, things can slow down a bit. Hands down amazing!!! All the food was created with a lot of thought! Everything was delicious and on point. Our delicious experience started with the perfect sweet Riesling that our waitress Julia recommended. She also recommended the best bruschetta flavors and chocolate dessert. Can't wait to come back on date day/night with my hubby. It would be cool if the owner added some more outdoor clear lights and heaters just ti amp it up a bit. Can't wait for more items to be added to your menu (dessert hint hint ;)) My hubs favorite item was the meatballs. Very tender but nice touch of crunch on the outside. My favorite was the baked Brie. A long time favorite but I think this last visit was the first since the new owner. Food was good as ever. I noticed the sausage panini was gone from the menu, which was my go to item in the past. But the pasta was good so the meal was fine. The Cesar salad was split and was perfect. The one bone of contention was my red wine was served in what looked to me like a white wine glass - a small bowl and a narrow opening that hit the end of my nose. Believe me, I'm no oenophile, but it was the wrong glass for a red. Considering they are a wine shop, I was surprised. I asked for a better glass and the waitress said "maybe they have an old glass somewhere". What she brought was fine but it makes me seriously wonder if the new owner knows anything about wine. read more

While staying in Bend for a family Ski vacation, we walked the 3 minutes down to Portello from the house we were in. Portello is located in a very pleasant newer development on the NW end of Bend and Mt. Washington Street, go figure! We went on a Monday night when all wines were $5 so to begin, the price was certainly right. We sat at the bar and were greeted by the very friendly bartender, Erin. We dove right into the wine choices and Erin was super helpful, letting us taste tiny sips so we made informed decisions. That right there is the first win. We found something delicious then moved onto food. I was craving a salad and the Albacore Tuna sounded just right plus someone had just ordered it so I got a preview. I was very pleased with the presentation and the flavors, although the tuna seemed like it was out of a can. Still good for the price. My wife got the Hazelnut Spinach Salad and was quite pleased. We also got a cup of the Tomato Basil Soup and it was spot on perfectly prepared. Second win. The only criticism I would offer is the item we brought home for our daughter needed improvement. She got the Grown-up Grilled Cheese and complained that it was more bread than cheese. Upon my own bite of her sandwich I'd have to agree. Portello was a great place in a great neighborhood. I have frequented this spot for the last two years because it's close to home and have witnessed the staff verbally assault so many people on several occasions and have finally had enough. The worst service I've ever experienced. The manager was visibly shaking as he yelled at multiple customers about an issue brought to him in front of us. I will NEVER return and cannot believe the experience I had at this establishment. Delightful place for a small plate nosh and wine or beer. Although it is located in the Northwest Crossing neighborhood, not far from our home, we had not been in to Portello until we stopped by today for a glass of bubbly and an antipasta tray after a noonish excursion to the Northwest Crossing Farmers Market. (Great Farmers Market, btw. Go. But that's a different review.) While the Portello Wine Cafe has seating indoors at both high seat tables (hate 'em) and regular tables (like 'em) and sofas (also like 'em), we opted to sit outside in the beautiful Bend afternoon at one of the tables placed on the sidewalk on nice days. Lovely to watch the people passing by on their way to and from the market and enjoy a very nice glass of prosecco along with the nibbles of the antipasto plate. Wine and beer menu has a nice selection at the normal Bend prices, about $7.50 to $10 / glass for wine. Happy hour prices are $5 / glass and that applies to the Saturday afternoon service as well. Food was good although not uniquely stellar. Menu ranges from "this and that", like the antipasto to bruschetta, paninni and salads. Saving the best for last, service was top notch...5 star service...friendly, professional, personable, efficient. We'll go again. Four stars may be on the horizon. read more

I would give Portello a 5+ for food, wine and service. Our server, Erin, was fantastic. However, I will give it a -5 for noise level. Tonight we were there for their Happy Hour and the decibel rating was 100+, which according to my iPhone app is in the "Danger" zone. We literally had to scream at the person sitting next to us. I also noticed that this place has become the afternoon/early evening place (instead of morning coffee shops) that the "Bend Mamas" come with their kids who scream and chase each other around and the mothers basically don't discipline their children I will go back to Portello Winecafe when the weather is warmer and we can sit outside. This was the worst experience I have ever had in Bend, Oregon. Myself (an Indian woman - American born), my male friend, and a female friend came to have lunch. We were graciously met and seated outside. We requested to be moved inside, and again, graciously accommodated. I complemented the wait staff about an amazing necklace and beautiful skirt - *note** at this restaurant, this is considered threatening for one woman to say to another woman. I am writing this review because the staff called the police after we ate, drank, calmly left and paid - with cash - with over a 30 percent cash tip. They called the police because we were "threatening, intoxicated and rude." We never spoke more than 5 minutes with the wait staff, moved our own drinks from outside to inside, and never made one single complaint to the wait staff. We consumed 1/2 a glass of rose wine, and 2 light beers over the span of an hour and 3 people. Only crime or injustice - my being brown - I say this because I was specifically called out and described to the police. I have never left a negative review about any place, but I will honestly state that I will never recommend this place or it's staff. As a California lawyer, I will say that the police (individuals and department) in Bend, Oregon are amazing, upstanding people. Also note - you cannot smoke a cigarette near this vicinity - especially if you are someone of color. They will lie to police to have you removed from their property and not inform you in any way (verbally or via a sign) that they would like you to not smoke on their outside sidewalk property. Food is mediocre at best, and asking for a panini without bread (meat and cheese on a plate in a wine cafe - I'm making a fair guess that they spit in my food) is an offense. But heck, give it a shot - recognize, if you are of color, you may have the police called on you - even more likely if you roll your eyes or have an angry attitude with your companions and/or compliment the wait staff. read more

There were only 3 other parties there, and yet it took them 5-10 minutes to bring us water and a menu. It took a very long time for our food to arrive. - I ordered the $14 tarragon chicken salad - a mixed green salad with chicken, grapes, pecans, and apples. Was shocked to see it come out as a small pile of greens surrounded by 8-10 halved grapes. On top of the greens was a small mound of chicken salad consisting of small cubes of chicken and apples - about 2-3 oz of each. - I ate the whole thing, except for some of the wilted greens. Tasted ok. - Went home and made myself a sandwich. read more

I used to Love this place but lately it seems a bit stuffy. I ordered 3 items to go, 2 soups and the raviolis. When I called they said it would be ready in ten mins. So I showed up around 15 mins and had to sit there and wait for 25 extra mins. The soup was missing the basil and bread. (Both cups were barely full) that's why I ordered 2. And I asked for cappers on my raviolis and they didn't have any in them, nor was the cheese sprinkled on top. When I called in they asked me if I would like to pay over the phone and then she asked me if I wanted to tip, I did but wish I didn't. Good luck read more
