Guacamole
Henry And Kelly M.

Went for hh and had a Fresca margarita ($7) and chips and dip ($14) and I enjoyed them! Grabbed another order of the chips and dip to go to bring to my partner because they loooove guac but some reason the to go serving is a quarter of what I had received in person (just look at other folks photos) and for $14 no less. Be cautious of take out orders in case this is their normal practice.

Green beans, steak, tostones

This place was so yummy! Right in the cute downtown bend area, they're set up so that you kind of seat yourself, which when we went tables were all full and we had to kind of figure out who was already waiting but we were able to get a table before too long. The server was really sweet, we ordered a few different things, the filet mignon steak, the green beans, the plantains with carnitas, the steak was interesting the meat was cooked well and was layered with chips (could have used more chips bc it was so good and only had 1 chip between each piece but the sauces were delicious). The green beans were seasoned and cooked well and paired nicely with the steak, and the pork carnitas with tostones tasted great

This is an easy five stars! The food was OUTSTANDING. Every dish we ordered was packed with flavor. Not to mention the portions were generous! The scene here was very modern and cool. The waiters were noticeably friendly and efficient. I can't wait to come back next time I visit Bend.

Chips and guacamole

Too pricey for average food and drinks. The cocktails were nothing special, on the weak side. The chips and guacamole were good but expensive. The pasta was very good but the paella was not. Service was excellent and nice ambiance.

Shrimp, from the mezze menu

What a consistently great place this is! I'd give 4.5 stars if I could. We came around 5:45 on a Friday and had to wait 30ish minutes. They must be under-staffed because there were a number of empty tables. The ambiance gives you fun art to look at and the restaurant is divided into a couple of indoor and an outdoor space in the back. Our server was friendly and confident, but she didn't know a lot about the ingredients on the menu, or that the shrimp had sauce choices. Must have been new. We liked her a lot, though! I ordered the margarita Fresca, which was delicious (I actually subbed out the agave for triple sec) along with the chips, salsa and guac. They came where the guac was scooped into a pool of red and green salsa, which I liked. I have to admit, I first judge a restaurant on the quality of chips and salad. The chips were thicker, perfectly salted and delicious! The salsa and guac were enjoyable enough, but nothing I'd come back for. I then ordered the street corn from the tapas menu and the shrimp from the mezze menu. The shrimp was a generous portion and came with a tomato, cucumber salad. It was very tasty with the mango dip (which I got to go with the corn, but might have chosen the garlic dip otherwise). The corn was okay. It wasn't the best street corn I've had. I'm not sure why, but I just found it a bit bland-wanted to like it more. My friend got the cochinita pibil tacos and said they were excellent. I definitely recommend this restaurant!

Ok, so this one was a bit of a mixed review. Although I liked the food it wasn't what I was expecting, making it a bit less enjoyable on my part. First, the place on Yelp said it was closed so I I wasn't able to check-in. It wasn't, obviously. There was a 45mins waiting list and no place to sit. They have a small couch that fits about 3 people on the corner. The decor was nice but nothing fancy. They have two rooms for the tables. They have a bar area. The staff was friendly. We had the paella and the tacos. The chip and salsa and the hibiscus soda, ginger, and passionfruit I believe. The paella had too much saffron and the chorizo or other smoky flavor made it overwhelming to have it as a full meal. The tacos were gone and my friend had no complaints. We, paella eaters, were not as pleased. Overall I would recommend it and I would come back and try other items on the menu. They do have a good flavor based so I believe a bit of "less is more" when it comes to already strong flavors would be good to implement here on that dish. The drinks were delicious and the chips and salsa too.

Mmmm, absolutely delicious tacos here at Barrio! The seasoning on the carne asada meat was great by itself, but add the combination of salsa, avocado, onions, and feta, and you've got yourself quite the tasty taco. I also tried a bite of the pineapple and pork taco, which was also quite good. On top of the food, our server was nice and very attentive, which made for a pleasant experience. I would recommend Barrio to anyone looking for a bite in Bend!

Tel Aviv Sour. Whiskey, cardamom, and egg white - such a great combination!
Austin P.

In a last minute dinner scramble while downtown, we ended up being able to get a table here. The atmosphere was very mellow and calm, and our server was kind. We started with a round of cocktails. All of the cocktails were good, but the Tel Aviv Sour was my favorite. We ordered a seafood paella and falafel to share, and then each of us ordered tacos. I got the chicken tinga, honey and garlic grilled chicken, and rockfish tacos. The paella and falafel were delicious, but the tacos were very disappointing. One of the chicken tacos seemed dry, and the three tasted so similar that I had no idea which one was the fish taco. In any case, I'd come back and explore more of their Middle Eastern menu, because their ME-inspired dishes seemed to be much tastier than their Mexican-inspired dishes.

At first, walking down the alley in downtown Bend, I honestly was not sure what we were about to find. Then we started seeing little fire pit pods, heated huts, glowing candles, and people tucked away having cocktails. It instantly felt cool without trying too hard. Walking into San Simón felt like stepping into some funky speakeasy hidden in plain sight. Dark lighting, moody atmosphere, David Bowie playing in the background, wild artwork on the walls that makes you stop and stare for a second. Just a great vibe all around. The kind of place where you sit down and immediately relax into the evening. The cocktails were excellent. Not overdone, not syrupy, just really balanced and well made. One of our favorites was the "Some Positive Feedback," which came with this sugar rim that looked awesome and added just enough sweetness without overpowering the drink. Bright citrus flavor, refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. Then we asked the bartender if they could just make us something off the cuff. We said vodka, lemon and lime forward, not too sweet, maybe a little spice. They absolutely nailed it. Crisp, refreshing, layered citrus flavor with just enough heat on the back end to keep it interesting. Honestly one of those cocktails where everybody at the table takes a sip and immediately goes, "Oh wow." As a bourbon guy, I was also pleasantly surprised with the whiskey selection. The bartender recommended Stafford's Reserve, an Oregon bourbon, and I am glad I listened. Smooth, approachable, a little sweet up front with some spice on the finish. Easy sipping bourbon that fit the whole vibe of the place perfectly. What really made the night though was the staff. Everybody was friendly in that genuine way where you feel welcomed instead of "served." By the end of the night it honestly felt like we had been there before, even though it was our first visit. The outdoor setup deserves some love too. Bend cooled down at night, but the fire pits and heaters kept everything comfortable. We could have easily stayed another couple hours just hanging out. Pricing felt fair for the quality of drinks and atmosphere. This is not a dive bar pretending to be fancy. It is a genuinely cool cocktail spot that knows exactly what it is. If you are in Bend and enjoy craft cocktails, bourbon, cool music, quirky atmosphere, and places with personality, go find San Simón. Half the fun is finding it tucked down the alley in the first place.

There's loud music, it's very dark, set up like a cafeteria with hard chairs and tables with no intimate space unless you reserve a tent. If it was a higher end intimate location, I can see the extra price, but it misses the mark as far as fine dining. No complaints.
