The Texas Poutine , while I don't love the name, was very good. The best thing we had. The fries were cooked just right. Crispy on the outside and soft inside. The chili had a good flavor (not Texas chili) for this dish. Milder than I'd want for a bowl of chili but nice flavor and complimented the dish. The queso was good, standard fare. A really good dish. Unfortunately, the onion rings were over cooked and the batter was hard. The fries with the burger weren't as good as the ones in the starter. Not as fresh and not as soft inside. The burger was good, but not the best I've had (one of the other reviews set a very high bar). I wish the party had been a little less done. I ordered medium and it was completely cooked through. I wanted to enjoy this pub experience so much because of the low prices on food but I was warned that the service would be poor...and it was. There were practically no patrons and 5 staff so I thought we would be taken care of but the bar staff would literally stare at me as I had an empty drink and not do anything about it. We were looking for a lunch restaurant with outdoor seating along Slaughter Lane and saw Brick Top's pub so we decided to try it. It is a nice little establishment at the end of a Strip center, with both picnic tables sporting umbrellas and tables on the sidewalk under the overhead awning. We checked inside with the bartender who said we could have a seat and she would be right with us. We sat outside on the heavy metal chairs which were surprisingly comfortable, in the shade and the breeze of the morning. Using the QR code on the table, We checked out the menu and decided to share a burger and an appetizer. We ordered iced tea, some fried okra, and the Bucktown Burger (Cheddar, Bacon, Caramelized Onions, Hickory BBQ, Romaine, Tomato) which came with fries. The bartender, who was also our waitress, brought everything pretty quickly and was always checking in on us to make sure we had no need unmet. RT was kept filled and ranch dressing was supplied at my request for dipping the okra. The iced tea was strong and fresh. The burger was absolutely delicious - the patty was obviously hand formed and perfectly cooked. The fried okra, well - what can you do wrong with fried okra as long as you don't over cook it :-). The fries which accompanied the burger were unusual. They appeared to be hand sliced, small pieces of potato fried and seasoned. They were very good, just unusual. Although we don't get into this part of the town often, we look forward to eating at Brick's pub again in the future! read more

Great neighborhood watering hole Drinks menu is impressive. Tons of beers on tap. Both locals and big brands. Food was amazing. Just left this venue after waiting 12 minutes for service while sitting at the bar and when the male bartender which has a mustache, glasses and tattoos saw us, he deliberately decided to turn around and chit chat with other customers and continued to keep his back facing us, almost on purpose so we decided to leave and he had the nerve to say "don't leave yet!" Unbelievable, horrible, awful and terrible person, customer service and now it feels like racism as we are Hispanic and the customers were white. I was going to give him one more minute but we were worried that the kitchen might be closing sooner than later and were hungry. I'll never return! Ever! Went here the other night with my gym friends and it was definitely worth a visit! It's a small place with only about 8 booths and then bar seating so if you want to sit at the same table, don't come with a group larger than 6 people (and that's a tighter squeeze). Our server was really sweet and attentive. I was really keen on the Turkey club sandwhich but they were all out so instead I ordered the yardbird which is a grilled chicken sandwhich with cheese, bacon, lettuce, aioli and avocado and it was pretty damn good! It comes with a side of fries or onion rings (I appreciated that the onion rings weren't an up charge like most places) however they showed up pretty over fried so not my favorite batter or onion ring but overall this was good and a nice local spot that's quiet to catch up with friends! read more

Wow these burgers were cooked to perfection. The bacon jam was so tasty I ate the whole thing! Well I hate half of mine and half of his-the blue cheese burger. We came in about 8:30 on a Wednesday night and the place was moderately full with great music, good vibes, and attentive staff. A friend recommended this place. I ordered the Classic Cheese Burger with a Fried Egg (always a good addition.) Burger comes with Melted Cheddar, Romaine, Tomato, Diced Onion, and Steakhouse Aioli. The buns are firm, burger paddy thick and juicy, all the sauces soaked really well into the bottom bun, but not soggy. The fries are cut and fried in a nice shape; well seasoned with salt and pepper. Finely chopped onions are not overpowering. I also ordered the Brick's Brisket Tacos, which come in two per order. They come with scrambled eggs, smoked brisket, bacon, avocado, jalapeno crema, cotija cheese, and Served with house made salsa and breakfast potatoes. The to go order was fast. Love this little local spot. Ambiance was nice, interior was very cozy and really nice. Amazing drink list (although I just had a beer). We had probably one of the best burgers we've had in a very long time. I'd say in my top five of all time. Buns were perfect also. Ended up stopping here over the weekend and I am glad we did! Parking was easy and I had no issues finding the place. The inside was completely full so we ended up sitting in the outdoor patio area which is fenced off from vehicles. My whole table ended up ordering either the bacon jam burger or the blue cheese burger. All of us agreed it was probably one of the best burgers we have had. The flavors in each of the burgers was amazing! Meat was slightly undercooked than requested, but was full of flavor and juicy. Side of fries was decent and were not just standard cut fries, but more like thin wedges. Service was good, our server was friendly and had no issues splitting the bill for us. Brick's Pub is not a new player to the S. Austin scene - having moved in here in 2019. However, they seemed to have withstood the panDAMic - which is a really good thing. Brock's moved into the FAR SOUTH end of the strip center at Slaughter Lane and Manchaca, taking over the spot formerly occupied by Independence Fine Food and they have proved to be a very worthy replacement. Brick's redesign of this space is quite nicely done IMO, with a legit horseshoe bar, classic high-backed booths, and a nice mixture of materials using wood, metal and tile. I particularly like the pressed tin ceiling as a nice touch. Overall, this bar has a comfy and a bit of an upscale feel which reminds me a LOT of Vincent's Sports Pub (on Brodie Lane). I guess this should be no surprise, as the owners of both pubs are all the same (Josh Bumb, father Larry Vincent Bumb and Richard Veregge - also co-owner's of the Moontower saloon just down the street). Besides several beers on tap, and a full bar, they also have a nice list of coffee drinks and boozy coffee drinks as well. All that said, I met my FIL here and we shared some burgers and hung out for a bit. I had the Bacon-Onion Jam Burger (Bacon Jam, cheddar, romaine, tomatoes, caramelized onions, with Steakhouse aioli) and he had the Bucktown (Cheddar, bacon, caramelized onions, Hickory BBQ sauce, romaine and tomatoes) - and BOTH of these 1/3 lb burgers were simply outstanding. I am a HUGE fan of their 'dipper' fries as well. With the goal of being THE Best Burger in S. Austin, these guys and their teams have certainly delivered. read more

This place is absolutely underrated, the food is SO good! The burgers are phenomenal, they grind their own brisket daily for the patties are they are so juicy and flavorful. We eat a lot more burgers then we should lol and these are top 5 in Austin in my opinion. I love the fries and the onion rings and their homemade ranch is BOMB. The chicken sandwiches are also delicious and frankly I think it would be hard to go wrong ordering anything on the menu. Good drinks that don't cost an arm and leg, great staff. Travis was an awesome bartender! We went here on a Sunday in the early evening and were so pleasantly surprised. The place is very cozy, on the smaller side, with dimmer lighting. They have a great menu with a lot of hot dog variations which my boyfriend loved. I am Gluten Free, and Travis was knowledgeable about what I could eat. So decided to give this place another try. It was pretty slow when I came in. The bartender attended to me relatively quickly and was fairly nice. I ordered a medium rare burger and had a few beers. The good service ended when I got my food. Burger was burned, not over cooked but burned. To the point it was literally falling apart it was so dry. I was pretty obvious the lady new what was going on cause she didn't acknowledge me for the rest of the time. I had two bites and that was it. Seriously couldn't choke it down. Never did she ask how was my food, or if I needed anything. Didnt even ask if I needed ketchup, salt, a napkin. Figure if you see someone didn't eat any of their food you would ask how it was. Not sure how you can screw up a burger order when I was the only one ordering food in the hour I was there. Well, I'm for sure telling everyone I met in my neighborhood not to go here. A beefy list of custom burgers, specialty (almost novelty) cocktails, and an airy, laid-back vibe make Brick's accessible to all in the neighborhood who are of drinking age, and kids are welcome too. We popped in for dinner Friday night and caught the tail end of happy hour, during which guests can grab $5 wells, beer, n wine, or $5 appetizer specials. We got calamari with marinara, and vodka sodas. I loved my Bacon Onion Jam burger, though I think it was served medium-well, not medium like I asked for. Perfect bacon, fantastic carmelized onions: a tasty burger. I didn't get a bite of my husband's poblano burger, as he polished it off without any help from me. I did get an onion ring, which was solid. I also loved the scoop-like potato fries, which makes me want to order the Texas Poutine the next time I go to Brick's. I'm a sucker for a good cocktail, and Brick's has a lovely list with local boozes and artisanal ingredients. They make their own smoke, for pete's sake, and torch orange rinds for their Sidecar. It's like Vegas, or a magic show, or something an expert mixologist hired by Jon Taffer might conceive of as a tasty gimmick. My Lisa Vanderpump-esque South Austin-themed champagne cocktail was heavy on the champers, darling. And I like the smoky Negroni my husband ordered. Next time I'll try the Rickey. read more

The Valentinas taco killer!! By chance we found this gem for brunch this past Sunday and what a huge surprise!! I ordered the brisket tacos that they smoke across the street at their sister business. You get 3 huge tacos for 8 bucks and they were hands down amazing. I'm had valentinas brisket tacos about 6 times. They're great. These are fabulous!!! Everyone at my table was beyond pleased with the service and the quality of their food. The manager came by and had a few chats with us and she was extremely genuine and caring.
