You know how things always change? Yeah. That. Bestie and I make a point to go here every year, but in 2015, things were . . . different. We ate in the same booth, overlooking the pier area; we took advantage of the great salad bar spread once again; we both ordered red wines, as we typically do. But service is everything in my experience, and things this time around were done without intimacy or apparent excellence. As a tip, do not speak down to your clientele to ensure that they REALLY meant to order Medium (instead of your assumption that they'd prefer Well Done). And as much as you may tire of folks asking what your own favorite might be, just say something nice. We work crazy jobs, too and understand that customer service is hard business, which is why we are always polite and conscious in tipping. That being said, after we asked the Mgr to switch our Waitress to Jenna H., we had a reasonably pleasant meal. The sad thing is, I'm not sure if we'd try for another this year. read more

This is our frequent date night location. We always enjoy sitting out on the deck overlooking the marsh and listening to the bands playing next door. We usually have good service, though there have been a couple exceptions. The food is great. Whether you come here to have steak, seafood, or pizza, you will not be let down. There has recently been an addition added onto their deck, as well as the marsh walk, so there is even more room on the deck now! We had a 3 night stay in Myrtle Beach, staying for a concert at the House of Blues. When my wife and I are out of town, we seek out the best of eateries. While lounging around the hotel room, we started checking out all of the ads for the best of places to eat. Upon reading the ads for Bovine's, we planned our entire day around eating there on Monday night. We made reservations for 9pm. Knowing we'd stay the day on the beach, we wanted a late night supper and it was going to be a 45 minute drive, one way. The menu on Bovine's web site depicted a menu that reminded us of a great restaurant that we visited in old town Albuquerque earlier this year. The bison was great at that place. When we arrived at Bovine's, we were greeted so so by the female manager and shown to our table. We were presented with our menus and asked about our beverage selections. While we were waiting for our beverages, we started looking at the selections on the menu. Let me tell you that the menu presented to us was not, I repeat not --- the menu we had just driven that distance to see. Our waitress came by the table to take our appetizer order, which we placed and when she came back, we questioned her about the change of menu and that we had driven a distance and planned our day around what we thought was going to be a fine dinner out. The waitress told us that the menu had been changed in March 2010 and she had received constant complaints. She encouraged us to speak to the manager as she felt that people needed to be vocal about the mis-leading ads and the mis-leading website maintained by Bovine's. The manager came to our table with a somewhat snubbing attitude and we voiced our complaint. She said that she would "pass it on". What a non professional attitude. I told her that we were leaving and they wouldn't be getting my $100. We did get up and leave (after paying my $20 bill plus a tip) and headed back to Myrtle Beach to find another place to eat. We ate here for an early dinner 6/25/2012. We both had the 6 oz. filet, it comes with the salad bar, we ordered garlic mashed potatoes and corn pudding. The corn pudding was "different", edible and it tasted fine but if given the choice again I'd have something else. It had a nice view and you didn't have to sit outside to enjoy it. They had $5 pomegranate margaritas so I didn't really pay attention to much else. It wasn't outstanding but I would definitely call it a safe choice for a good meal. The server was a little up in our business trying to upsell items but I guess I'd prefer that to no service. For two people we spent around $80+$20 for tip but you could easily get out for around $30 and still get a decent meal. read more

I was so disappointed with our meal at Bovine's. We had high expectations and based on the prices you would think you would get a good meal - NOT!! The catch of the day - grouper - was obviously frozen - the side of vegetables was obviously frozen and the smoked oysters, although were fresh as they were attached to the shell by the muscle were small and hidden under a pile of some type of cream sauce - which was not described on the menu - so complete surprise - bad surprise. Step it up Bovine's - if you're going to charge $20 for a dozen oysters and $25 for a piece of fish and veggies then the least you can do is slice up some fresh produce and go down to the dock and buy a fresh piece of fish. There are too many good restaurants in the area to waste your time and money at Bovines. Yes, we were seated quickly- a table of 9. Took a good 10 minutes for wait staff to appear. Drinks were ordered but slow (20 minutes) in coming. Food orders were placed...50 minutes til the food was brought out. What an unappetizing amateurish mess. Hush puppies were heavy and flavorless. The crab cake on an "artisan potato roll" was flavorless canned crab...no texture slime, on an ordinary grocery store burger bun. The fried Fisherman's Platter had flounder that was a soggy, undercooked plop of mush. The lobster tail had a chewy rubber like consistency. The pizza was ok...attractive presentation there. Salad bar was ok, but sloppy and not kept restocked. Only shining star was the Steak...it got raves. Never again, Bovines. Never again. read more

I dined at Bovine's on Wednesday August 12th with a party of four. We arrived around 6:45 and were quoted about an hour and a half to a two hour wait. This didn't surprise us, being peak tourist season. We found a table outside and had my mother-in-law and father-in-law sit while my husband and I went inside to get drinks from the bar. We found MANY empty tables (at least eight that I could see from just the bar area) and there were several seats at the bar as well. There was only one bartender working who seemed extremely frazzled. It took him about fifteen minutes to come over to us. While he was taking our drink order, he was pouring wine for waitresses as well. He knocked over a glass of wine that just nearly missed hitting my husband. After receiving our drinks, we sat with my in-laws to wait for our table. From the patio seat we had, we watched the two hostesses eating food at the hostess stand, taking selfies, and doing everything but seating tables. After about an hour, my mother-in-law and I went inside to use the restroom. The same empty tables were still not seated. We checked with the hostess about why there was such a wait when there were so many empty tables. She said that the kitchen was slammed with large parties, therefore they stopped seating people because they didn't want them to be sitting at tables with no service/food. When we were finally seated after about an hour and a half, our waitress was excellent. She was seated a large party (around 20 people) in the seats directly across from where we were seated in a booth and was just trying to keep up with everything. She took our drink and dinner order together and my mother-in-law and I headed up to the salad bar. Apparently you have to wait to receive a plate for the salad bar from your waitress, which left us standing there confused for several minutes before a young man from the kitchen provided us with plates. All that aside, our meal was actually very good. My father-in-law had a standard burger, but my mother-in-law and I had steaks that were both delicious and my husband had the salmon. The sides were great as well - I loved the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. On the way out, which was around 10:00, it was extremely disappointing to see the manager sitting at a table inside the bar area drinking with several other members of the staff. Our poor waitress was back near our table running her butt off trying to take care of several large parties, and there was clearly no team approach to service at Bovine's. I found it atrocious that the manager would be drinking in front of customers while his servers were still attending to guests. Although the food was good at Bovine's, I think management has a lot to learn about running a busy restaurant. I would not return. read more

We made a reservation and were greeted and seated promptly (we were given a choice and told we could change if we were too hot outside.) The atmosphere on the deck was perfect. Service was great, and the drinks and food were very good; we had pizza, salmon, and meatloaf. This was our third visit, on a fairly busy Wednesday evening. We are locals so we have the advantage of coming in the less busy season, but this time we brought friends from out of town. Our friends had not visited Bovines before, but enjoyed it very much. I had the BEST ribeye steak I have ever eaten at Bovine's tonight! I have had steak from all over and J.C. the chef is the steak whisperer!!!! He is the best!! everything we had tonight was superb! The raw oysters were the best we had ever had anywhere on the coast. Everything from the seafood platter to the baked potato was phenomenal!! You can't get a baked potato anywhere that is piping hot all the way through your meal anywhere. We walked up to the bar with a group of seven. All ordered drinks and had planned on getting food. When we asked for food menus the bartender asked if we were all on one check and we said no, separate. I have never seen a grown man have a hissy fit at work but tonight I witnessed it. Now I don't know if he was having a bad day to begin with or what was going on, but the man starts slamming well door's and acting like we just asked him to solve world hunger. We thought he was just separating the checks but when we were all given our checks and still not asked for our food order we were slightly confused. We decided to head elsewhere. I did speak to the manager who seemed to be upset that I was even making a complaint but in hindsight maybe he was just tired of the bartender as well. Customer service nightmare. Three of us dined there 1/25. All ordered entrees, salad and cocktails. One ordered the 2 pork chop dinner, 18.95. Came out with only 1 small chop. Called the server over, said they changed it so it was a bigger chop. NOT SO! Hostess came and very respectful and professionally said she would have the chef grill another chop...situation resolved?? NOT. After about 25 mins with everyone else finished and cold, we cancelled the chop and asked to see a manager. Tim came out then the fireworks started. He said HE changed the menu 1 month ago (WHAT?) and replaced it with a bigger chop. not the point, point was it said 2 chops, menu was never changed and server didn't mention change we he accepted the order!! Manager proceed to further insult us by saying at @19 he was losing $$. Wow, a baked potato and 3oz chop. He got very angry and was getting loud. What happened to the customer is always right? We just wanted to get an explanation of why the menu was still not corrected? Simple apology would have sufficed. Please Bovines train your managers and servers and give the hostess a raise. Family heading to Drunken Jacks for Dinner for the first time. Two hour wait (must be very good) so we went next door to Bovine's. No wait and practically empty (this is a good sign). However, it looked like a very nice place. To make a long story short, it took 2 hours for the food to come. The waitress was nice and apologized numerous times Finally, after our group wanted to leave, a manager was seen. I asked him abouth the problem and he explained a ticket issue. Told him how long it had been. He said he would check to see how much longer. He did not come back to the table 15 minutes later he sent the waitress to tell us that our tickets were finally at the top. There were four or five other tables near us...all had the same problem. Finally after 2 plus hours of being seated the food did come out. What was funny, ever body said it was good. However, all were full from eating hush puppies and tires so 90% of all meals were boxed immediately as we wanted out of there. Yes we tipped the waitress well, not her fault. The final straw for me was as we boxed up the food, the manager came over to the table, never said one word, no apologies, nothing. As a person who is 60 years old, has been coming to Garden City for 30-years, and goes out to eat with my wife 2-3 times a week; this is my first restaurant complaint ever. Never written one, never verbally complained, never sent my food back; but this was the most ridiculous meal ever and the manager needs to attend a basic beginner course. read more

We have been to Bovines several times over the years and had a great meal. Haven't visited here for at least 3 years, so we decided to eat here on September 2, 2010. The waitress was GREAT. That was all that was great. It seemed like I was eating in a Pondersosa Steakhouse or a Western Sizzlin. I can't believe they have brought back the nasty salad bar!! YUK. I thought salad bars were going away except for the cheap buffet restuarants. They seated us right by the salad bar. No view of the water. Thats why we chose to come to Murrells Inlet to eat is so we feel like we are on vacation. I could have had a salad bar view in WV. I chose the ribs. They were just ok....not as good as I remember. There were 10 of us and it was only near the end of the week that others complained that Bovines was the worst meal of the week. It used to be great, but apparently there have been changes and it will probably be our last meal at Bovines. $200 plus for a meal that was just ok. read more

Such a disappointment! We used to eat at Bovine's years ago. It was our favorite place in Murrells Inlet. It was an exquisite dining experience. We had not been back in 4 years and when we went back there this month, I had to look twice to make sure we were in the same place. They've rearranged the seating to make it serve twice as many people and so the atmosphere is nothing like it was. But worst of all the food is completely different. I would compare it to 'Golden Corral' - yuck. The rolls tasted like they were from the day-old shelf at the grocery store and my husband's baked potato tasted like it had been in a warming drawer for hours. And instead of the delicious salads they used to make-- they herd you through a disgusting salad bar experience. Again, I had to wonder if I was eating at the local senior dinner buffet. We have visited Bovine's twice and weren't dissapointed either time. The 1st time back in April 2012 was with my daughter who ordered the Shrimp & Grits which she really liked and I decided on the Filet which was excellent. The 2nd time (last week) was with the wife and some olrder friends. The women ordered the burger which they both liked, my buddy ordered the large ribeye which looked great and must have tasted good because there was nothing left. I ordered the house pizza which was cooked just right with a cripsy crust and the right amount of toppings. We had the same female server both times (which speaks to something) who was personable and attentive. While the offerings are a bit pricey the food quality is good, the views of the marsh are relaxing and the service acceptable. The interior is large and open while the overall atmosphere is casual and enjoyable. It appears that many of the older upscale locals frequent the place in the late afternoon to enjoy conversation, cocktails and appetizers. The only thing that needs some level of improvement is the salad bar which is limited in its offerings. read more
