This place is so good we came here twice and just know, I DON'T do that. When I'm in a new place I want to try it all. But The Claw House put up a good argument justifying both visits. Our first and second visit consisted mostly of the same things: Oysters and Calamari to start, Seafood Mac & Cheese and Fish & Chips. I had the lettuce wraps, which are big, so share. And I had Crab Cakes. The wraps were good but they needed a better aioli in my opinion, because it became a sort of watery dressing instead of something sturdier. And the pico de gallo was not actually that. It was diced tomato, onion and had zero taste of lime, salt or spicy. It was fine but could have been killer. My hubby had the Clam Chowder, Pan Seared Grouper and the shrimp Po Boy. He loved the grouper, risotto and the chowder. The fish was flaky and seasoned well. The po boy needed more sauce but was really delicious. My daughter (16) needed a seafood break since she had the fish and chips the first visit and went with the Claw House Burger. She said it was seasoned and that it was indeed 1/4 lb. And Fish & Chips was the best she had had (which, she's had an incredible amount for her young age) -- not too much breading, nice crisp on the outside and juicy fish. The fries both nights were a little chewy but the flavor was there. And how can I forget. Even though on the second night we saw at least five tables start with the Crab Nachos we added a third item, Fried Clam Strips. Those were ridiculously good. I'm not a fan of tartar sauce so I ate it without and it was perfect on its own. Everything was fresh, they paid attention to detail in most individual elements and the location sent it over the top. $88 for the best 6 oysters I ate the entire time I visited Myrtle, 2 beers, a delicious shrimp po boy, and about 6 bites of Grouper and risotto that was around $35 a plate. A table of 4 sat a few minutes before we did and a table of 6 sat probably 10 minutes after them. Our table and the table of 6 were served before the group of 4 who had to ask a bus boy for service. Yikes! Server was sweet besides the empty non alcoholic beverage glasses she did not fill when our food came out. She didn't come back to check in on us until my husband's 6 bites of dinner were already gone. I asked if the portion is usually that small (especially in comparison to the significantly cheaper - MASSIVE PORTIONS we saw being served all around us) and she politely said "yes. typically, sometimes a little bigger." As someone with a culinary arts degree & kitchen background I was very very very disappointed on the portion size of his entree for the price & sizes of surrounding entrees being served (that were cheaper or around the same price) and it literally ruined my entire experience. A smidge dramatic but the God's honest truth! Great view, beautiful patio, friendly service - just extremely disappointed. I planned to order both of us dessert and immediately skipped out & asked for the check when the server finally came over to ask how our food was. This review is hot & cold because my experience was. Solid food and solid vibes! Sat on the patio area which is enclosed. It was toasty! For app we got the crab nachos. They were surprisingly good! Nachos are actually wonton chips which were nice and crispy. Also was a really good white cheese sauce on the nachos too. Only suggestion would be for the restaurant to do it in a tray so the nachos can be more spread and evenly coated. For the main, I got the oyster po boy. The oysters were plump and evenly fried. This restaurant is right on the marina and has the best view of the water from their outside patio. They have a few parking spots in front, and more pay to park spots on the adjacent lot. For appetizer, I started with the crab nachos. I didn't realize how big the dish would be! It is definitely a shareable item for 3+ people. I was pleasantly surprised by how good these nachos were! I loved the crispiness of the wontons and the fresh mango salsa, pico and avocado on top. For my entree, I had the lobster roll. I was in heaven! The lobster was chunky and a good amount. They did not skimp. It was drizzled with butter that made every bite delicious! It came with fries. I was so full after eating the nachos and roll. I am gonna go out of the way and give the claw house 2 stars because of the waitress being good. We had a craving for crab legs(all you can eat,$49.99) and they were 6.5 on a 1-10 rating. Little small and dry the guy that we're bringing reorders we did have a empty plate several times . The wait , well we were there just before 5:00 and didn't get seated till 6.32 . The inside was loud and sounded like being in a barrel. It was also cooler outside than inside . No air flow . We were debating on going to crabby mikes and came to the claw house. Big mistake . Same price could have had better service, AC and more to chose from than just crab legs at crabby Mikes for the same price! There is your comparison if you go to Surfside/ garden city/ murrels inlet .... Beware of the 2 hour parking across the street that is $25 and didn't know it was for 2 hours and got a $65 ticket for staying over 2 hours! . $90.00 to park. We didn't see anything about a 2 hr limit and didn't know we would be waiting for a table for 1.5 hours . What a let down. Good luck and God Loves ya ! read more

I visited here on a recent work trip and on the drive from Wilmington to Charleston and sat on their popular outdoor covered patio. I picked the cajun reddish entree and subbed for the bacon jam and green onion paste, served over risotto instead of grits. I also added a 1/2 dozen of the off-menu Momma Mia (Canadian) oysters. The meal was delicious and the service was great. My colleague also seemed to enjoy his meal. There are a ton of restaurants to choose from in this strip along Hwy 17, but this seems to be one of the better ones for sure as far as an elevated experience and a view without the elevated prices. read more

I wish I got more photos and video here, but I promise Ill get better at this. We had an amazing lunch at The Claw House. While pets aren't allowed inside the restaurant-which I completely understand-they do permit dogs on the outdoor patio. However, we were a bit disappointed to learn that the screened-in patio wasn't pet-friendly. Instead, we sat on the lower patio, which turned out to be a great spot with a beautiful view right on the water. We started with the mussels as an appetizer and had the lobster roll for lunch-everything was fresh, flavorful, and filling. Highly recommend this place for the food and the views. It was our first time at the Claw House during Memorial Day weekend but it is a new favorite spot for our family. We went to celebrate my dad's belated birthday so we started out with the calamari appetizer and the corn/crab chowder. The chowder was a bit too spicy for me (but I don't like spice at all), my mom loved it. The calamari was a hit--my 5 year old ate more than anyone else. She'd never had it before but she loved it! She asked the server for a refill. My mom ordered salmon and it was perfectly cooked. The sauce was spectacular. My husband got the tuna poke tacos and they were so good. I tried a piece of the tuna and it was incredible. My dad got the crab tower, which has mangos in it and came with chips. I ordered the lobster roll. I love that sandwich! I've had lobster rolls before and it tops them all. The bread was a beautiful split top, the meat was tender and perfectly cooked. I would recommend! There are a ton of places to eat in Murrells Inlet, but The Claw House is my favorite. On top of the beautiful view, the food is fresh and flavorful, and the service is fun and friendly. My last visit I ordered pretzel bites, crab & shrimp Rangoon egg rolls, and a lobster roll. The pretzel bites were buttered and salted to perfection, and served with beer cheese. The egg rolls were stuffed with crab, shrimp, cream cheese, and scallions, and served with a sweet and tangy dipping sauce. The lobster roll was packed with meat and topped with melted butter. Every bite was spectacular! This is one of those places where the entire menu sounds amazing. There are a ton of other things I still have to try, so I'll definitely be back. Just came back there today and it wasn't near as good as the first time I went which was disappointing! The calamari took forever to come out and when it did come out it tasted like it was cooked too long. It was rubbery and not much flavor this time. We sat outside and they had the dish cart out there right next to our table and would loudly put dishes in there. With a baby at our table trying to sleep, all the banging and clanging of the dishes wasn't appreciative. Seems like they could have been more considerate in general with making that much noise next to a table of people trying to enjoy their meal. My neighbor from home has a condo in garden city and highly recommended this place. We had never been to murrels inlet and it was packed and this was off season. Parking is easy across the street is a large open lot. It was high ceiling and very nautical inside, right along the marshwalk. We got the crab egg rolls to start (filling had good flavor) but they were fried long enough so skins were kinda gummy. Also had a cup of she crab soup very flavorful.
