If you're anywhere near Murrells Inlet, Dead Dog Saloon is a must-visit! The ribs were absolutely incredible--so huge they were literally hanging off the pan they were served on! Also with extra rib sauce on the side. They were tender, smoky, and packed with flavor. The mac and cheese was rich and creamy, and the fries were hot, crispy, and delicious. Before our meal, they brought out warm hush puppies with what I believe was honey butter, and they were so good they disappeared in no time! The atmosphere is fun, welcoming, and family-friendly, and the live music made the whole experience even better. It's easy to see why Dead Dog Saloon has been featured on the Travel Channel and in Southern Living Magazine. We've been coming to this area for more than 20 years, had family homes in the area, so we've had an opportunity to try many places over the years, but today was the first time we tried Dead Dog Saloon. Let's try the good first. We arrived and we're seated immediately, but was also arrived just before 5pm, and it was already packed. Not surprised as it is the peak of the summer season. Our server was pleasant and attentive, and in my opinion, that was pretty much the extent of the " good". The "OK". - the food was just that, ok. The cobia had no real seasoning on it, if it weren't for the butter sauce, it would have had zero flavor. The fries are obviously from frozen and cooked until very crispy, almost hard. The mac and cheese sampled from my wife's plate also tasted like a mass produced, frozen deal. She said the scallops were good, and the shrimp I sampled were decent. My son enjoyed his fish and fries, but he's 6. The "bad"...since I'm using those words. It's loud, and got louder around 5:45. No surprise though, it's called a saloon and the reviews clearly say it's loud. Be prepared. Parking. I guess if you can find a spot on site, you're good, but the pay lots across the street are $20 for 2 hours...the least you can get. And again, something I failed to read, researcher whatever, but the pictures of all the 4 legged friends that have crossed the rainbow bridge that adorn the walls, it was, to me, a bit of a buzz kill. I quite frankly never realized it's concept was to honor actual dead dogs. My bad. We've been, and I honestly don't expect well go back, at least not for a while. I'll give it another shot, but in an area like this, there are always new places to try, ones that have been open for 30 years, and ones that have been open for 30 days. Ate here twice actually. The first time, earlier around lunch, I ordered the crab nachos. They were delicious! The second time, later that same day, I ordered (upon the recommendation by their awesome employees Sam and Erin) their "Surf and Turf Tacos". They consisted of grilled chipotle-seasoned shrimp & marinated beef tenderloin topped with mango salsa. This was most definitely a Winner!! There's plenty of both inside and outside seating at this Murrell's Inlet waterside establishment. We were outside (which is actually all covered) at the bar which provides great views of the water. Oh yeah, and as one passes through the inside dining on the way to the outdoor bar, be sure to glance to the walls on your right that are covered with dog pictures and photos. Nice! The staff are friendly and helpful. Sam and Erin were working their buttooskies off getting drinks and orders for everyone at the bar and still had time to occasionally stop and chat with the patrons at the bar. Prices are very reasonable, the atmosphere is laidback and friendly, and the food is great! I highly recommend you check them out. The free hush puppies were a nice and delicious surprise. I had the prime rib sandwich. It was delicious! The horseradish sauce over the prime rib with crispy onions with a soft roll- so tender. My friend got their hamburger and it looked good too. They offer tater tots for a side! Got a kick out of the restrooms- setters or pointers. Hilarious!! Staff friendly- all that passed our table made sure we were doing good. We sat outside in the covered area and there was a perfect cooling breeze. Fantastic restaurant, a definite must visit! This restaurant is covered with pictures of dogs that have passed away in a celebration of life and the general companionship of our furry friends. It reminded me a lot of a Día De Los Muertos style of remembrance. You might think this would make for a sad ambiance, but it was actually very inviting! Decorations of cute dogs on the windows, hanging lights, and cartoon style tabletops. The live music was very good too! The food was great. Complementary hush puppies were seasoned well accompanied by a delicious honey butter. The fried fish and shrimp were tender, crispy, and salted perfectly. No tails or veins on the shrimps. The chicken wings were decent, a bit dry, and sides were nothing too special. Certainly not worth paying a la carte prices for, but they did come with the meals. I was absolutely astounded by how fast the food came out considering the entire place was packed. There were so many employees working that the service was still excellent. As someone from Virginia, I'm usually cautious with crab cakes--too often they're all filler and no flavor--but this one was refreshingly light, packed with crab, and genuinely delicious. One of the best surprises? The hush puppies. We had heard great things but didn't see them on the menu--turns out, they bring them out complimentary when you're seated. This is a return visit. We went twice last year bc we had a gift card. However, the wife liked it so much that she wanted to go back again this year...which is a big deal for us bc we usually try to stick to new places...always wanna try something new. Parking can be tricky if you go when it is busy. There is a small lot right by the restaurant and then an overflow lot across the street (Warning: this lot floods very quickly and easily when it rains. Huge puddles form and make it even harder to find a spot and to drive/walk through the lot.) Upon entering, you'll notice lots of photographs...literal pictures of peoples' dead dogs. IMO, a little weird...but that's neither here nor there. The food has always been good. Wife loves the pulled pork...but especially the mashed potatoes that come with it. Delish! This time I tried the Crabby Cale sandwich. Good choice. However, the real MVP is always the complimentary hush puppies that come as an appetizer. Dipped in some of the honey butter...OMG! Service has always been great too! This time, our server, Julia, was amazing. Incredibly helpful, sweet, and polite. She stayed on top of everything and did it with grace and a smile. Kudos to Julia! The oil seemed very old was not breaded very good and had an off taste, also the price is way to high for what u get. Dead Dog Saloon is a great stop in Murrells Inlet! You can't beat the waterfront views and relaxed coastal vibe. What we were curious about was the name. Floor to ceiling are framed photos of dogs who have crossed the rainbow bridge with names and dates written on frames. As sad as that may sound, it is done in an endearing way and patrons can add photos apparently. There was even a pin board in the restroom that some photos were pinned on. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the portions were generous including a big basket of hush puppies with butter. Some of the best I've had. Their signature Cuban was very good with a little kick. Excellent sweet potato fries and the kids meals of noodles was a huge plate and the fried clams and French fries ample portion. They have some booth style tables that can fit a party of 6-8 and a separate bar area with tables that is waterfront. T-shirts and merch are available for purchase as well. Came here for lunch on a Tuesday and had no problem getting a table for 2. Although it might sound a little morbid, the atmosphere is endearing in a weird way with people that bring photos of their dead dogs and they hang them on the wall in memory. The place has indoor, outdoor, and covered outdoor seating options, we decided to go for the covered outdoor. You get plenty of great views of the Riverwalk just outside, and can go on a nice stroll after you've stuffed yourself with some BBQ. Staff was attentive and quick to take care of anything we needed. We started with an order of hush puppies which comes with an amazing honey butter to spread on, I was in heaven and could have just had that for lunch (I also recommend dipping in BBQ sauce too, don't knock it till you try it). We then did their BBQ meat platters with pork, chicken and brisket with Mac and cheese, tater tots, sweet potato fries, and grilled veggies for our sides. The sauces really make the meats here, would have liked a little bit more flavor on their own, but the meat was at least still juicy and they give you plenty of it! Best side was definitely the mac and cheese. Parking right in front can be a little tight, so you might need to use the larger lot across the street when it gets really busy. read more

We even came early, ordered a beer, walked out on the pier, came back, sat down, and ordered two pounds of chilled peel-and-eat shrimp for $20. That is an outstanding value compared to where I live. When the shrimp arrived, my wife tried the first one and immediately said, "I can't eat these, they're mushy." I had eaten a couple myself, and while they were definitely mushy, I finished them all, being the glutton that I am. Could I have said something to the staff or sent them back to the kitchen? Absolutely. However, I didn't want to turn into one of those "quote-unquote" customers, and they just asked "need anything?"No, "How is the food?" (I know, nite picking) As far as I could tell, the shrimp had been frozen, thawed, and were simply not fresh. Then, halfway through the meal, my wife said she was going to order some hush puppies. She asked the waitress, who replied, "Oh, you get free hush puppies, I'll just go get 'em." It seemed like one misstep after another. Would I go back? I'm not sure, especially since there are so many other locations right next door. The reason for the negative review is that your business is advertised primarily as a **seafood** restaurant. If you're in Myrtle beach, take a 30 minute drive to Murrells inlet for a quieter walk on the inlet. Tons of restaurant options and live music at a bunch of the restaurants/ bars. Dead dog saloon literally had pictures all over the restaurant of peoples dead dogs. Nice outdoor seating which isn't too close to the live music. Shrimp was super fresh and a good size. Shrimp and grits had that hearty gumbo texture and had a great kick. Grits really absorbed the flavors and wasn't stingy on the shrimp. Fish tacos had some tropical flavors and you really could taste Iime on the rice. A third tacos would have been nice. A lot of frozen drinks on the menu.
