My boyfriend and I walked into Flamingo Grill hoping to have dinner and left almost immediately because of the way we were treated. We were dressed casually in shorts, T-shirts, and sandals--which, considering this is Myrtle Beach and the restaurant is only a couple miles from the beach, didn't seem remotely inappropriate. The atmosphere itself is casual, with motorcycles and a Fonzie cutout, so we certainly weren't walking into what appeared to be a five-star fine-dining restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were basically ignored. When my boyfriend finally asked about seating, the woman who appeared to be the manager responded, "For tonight?" in a tone and with an expression that made us feel like we had asked a ridiculous question. The host then proceeded to cut her eyes at us. The entire interaction felt unnecessarily judgmental and condescending. I'm a bar manager myself, so I understand the service industry very well. If there was no availability, a simple, "Unfortunately, we're fully booked tonight," would have been completely understandable. What I don't understand is making potential customers feel unwelcome or beneath your establishment based on how they happen to be dressed. And that's the thing about working in hospitality: you never know who is walking through your door. We were fully prepared to spend good money on dinner, drinks, and leave a generous tip. Instead, after seeing how we were being treated, I grabbed my boyfriend's hand and said, "No, we aren't spending our money here," and we left. You can have great food, but hospitality starts before the first drink or plate ever reaches the table. Making guests feel judged the second they walk through the door is a great way to make sure they spend their money somewhere else. On that note, we to Fiesta Mexicana next door and they had exceptional customer service, great food, and a very welcoming vibe! I highly recommend. read more

A local recommended we try this restaurant and get the Lobster bites. The decor was a show stopper! It had a fun diner meets mafia nightclub feel, I'm not quite sure how to describe it. Lots of shiny black and it was so clean. We ordered the filet minion and lobster bites. The steak also came with new potatoes and sugar snap peas. The fork tender steak was a perfect medium and had a light seasoning. The lobster bites are one inch pieces that have a very light breading. They were delicious and the lobster flavor still shined through. I personally was disappointed with the potato's and sugar snap peas. They seemed to be boiled with no seasoning. After Rossi's restaurant closed (to our dismay) Flamingo Grill quickly became one of our favorite restaurants in Myrtle Beach. We typically eat there 2 or 3 times a year on our beach vacation. We had concerns about new owners but everything is as good as we have come to expect. Wait staff is professional and friendly. From the lobster bites to the Key Lime pie everything was excellent. The Ahi Tuna was excellent! The side of risotto tasted like it was made the day before, left on the counter and reheated a hour before being served. Well we just found a new favorite place for a really nice night out. First of all the decor is lovely and the tables are NOT crowded. I have the Ahi peppercorn tuna and it was cooked perfectly. I ordered it rear. Huge piece of tuna and very tender and flavorful. The Garlic Mashed and Snap peas were also delicious. It also came with a salad and I recommend the house dressing. My guy had the GIANT cut of prime rib. He ordered an end cut medium and it was perfect. To end the night we split a piece of chocolate pecan pie. It is made in house and came out warm and very delicious. It is rich so split it for sure. They have fish specials each night and I think I'll try the Grouper next time. We chose the Flamingo Grill because we asked a complete stranger, what restaurant he would recommend. (Then checked on Yelp of course). The Salmon Teriyaki was delicious, House salad, veggie of the day (boiled red potatoes), and a sliver of garlic bread were included with the entree. I was full before I got to the potatoes, but they were good for the next mornings home fries. The service was spot on. The Art Deco 50's ambiance is fun, with huge posters of movie stars from Hollywoods glory days and, of course, pink flamingos. While my friend and I enjoyed pretty much everything about the restaurant, it may not be a draw for a younger crowd. Reasonably priced menu for these inflation plagued days. read more

We usually make it a point to go to Flamingo Grill when we are the beach. Normally the food is very good. It may have been an off night for them this last time. I got the Delmonico steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The steak lacked seasoning and broccoli was bland. The mashed potatoes on the other hand were tasty. Others in our party got the chicken.
