I have never written a review in my life. But my conscience wouldn't let me get away from dinner at the Cork. To start I ordered a J.D. Manhattan, it had to sit in the shaker for several minutes before being served it was ice cold and flavorless. I did complain but to no avail, oh well. I then proceeded to order my dinner "Corks special steak", baseball cut medium rare. Once arriving at our table it looked spectacular. Taking fork and knife in hand I attacked. To say the steak was undercooked with a few sinews is an understatement. No pink or red just purple inside and tough or chainsaw tender. I will say I can eat extra rare, but that's not what I ordered. On the other hand my wife's sake salmon was cooked perfect and very flavor able . Also no bread or rolls were offered before or during our meal. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for fine cuisine. Happy 25th anniversary hon. 2 stars for the salmon. J.Z. read more

Our happy hour food was fresh good prices, it wasn't a good deal where the muscles were concerned, otherwise it hit the spot and was very cozy. Definitely go early for happy hour. read more

This place is a local gem! I held my rehersal dinner in a private room in the back for about 40 people last summer. My friends and family were so impressed! Every steak came out perfectly cooked and the fish and vegetarian options were amazing as well. The staff is both professional and full of personality. Way pricey, two glasses of wine and 4 dinners, no dessert and it was $175 plus tip. Was very delish'. Sat four of us down at our 6:45 reservation on a Friday night and only one menu. Weird. Waited for the table next to us to finish with theirs and asked their server for them. But service was superb. VERY LOUD. Hard to hold a conversation without having to yell back and say WHAT? This was my second time at Boulder Cork and it was just as great as the first time. It's certainly not a bargain type place but I think the quality and service justify the cost. I've only eaten dinner there so I cannot speak to how it might be for other meal times. We were there pretty late (arrived after 8PM) and never felt rushed or pressed for time. read more

Had an excellent experience there for dinner. I had their large 18oz Prime Rib which was cooked to perfection and not overseasoned, so you can still taste the quality of the beef. I would have liked some raw horseradish to accompany the prime rib, but their horseradish sauce worked fine. I also ordered a side of a stuffed chili pepper dish which was awesome. It was full of flavor and not too spicy, so even my fiance enjoyed it. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well, so I would definitely go back. read more

My date took me here for the Boulder First Bites week - essentially a $60 meal for a couple at a top notch place. The meal opened with a solid cup of soup, good enough where I would have enjoyed about twice as big a serving. I enjoyed the Prime Rib, it was quite rare and pretty enjoyable. The veggies on the side were good but light. Decent dessert, though I dont really care about dessert with my dinner. Overall: It was a good meal. Even at the discounted price, it seemed pricey. The cork is a staple for business lunches, business or family friendly happy hour and dinner. Prime rib sandwich is great, fish curry bowl, Dijon chicken sandwich, salmon, lobster ravs (smaller dish).. The thing is It's been our go to for a year now and they haven't changed the menu once. Excellent service, cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Smoked fish & baked Brie (unusual breading surrounding the Brie) appetizers were delicious. Great cocktails. Our group ordered steaks & fish. It was Ok. I could spend the same amount of money at Flemmings and get more food with more flavor. I probably wouldn't choose to go there again unless someone invited us. We went for a special occasion,and between the 6 of us we tried the majority of items on the rather small menu. Our waitress was rude and socially awkward, and she didn't know the menu or the specials. The bread was ice cold and butter frozen. The "seafood chowder special with scallops" looked more like a weird minestrone that didn't have a single piece of fish and was loaded with potatoes. The ribs were also subpar and overpriced. The burgers were pretty good but not worth the price Overall it was an overpriced experience in a dated atmoshere (a cheap mexican restaurant could move in overnight and fit right in). The Boulder Cork does one of my favorite Happy Hours in Boulder! The drinks take a little bit to make, as all good things do, and the happy hour small plates are mostly very good. The nachos are a personal favorite. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and there is plenty of free parking outside. Towards the end of Happy Hour the self-seating bar can get very full, so go early to snap up a spot! It seems to me that the Cork is one of Boulder's best kept local secrets. read more

After my visit I felt it was very important to post positively about this restaurant. I believe that many of the negative reviews may be placed my disgruntled former employees, customers with unreasonable expectations, or perhaps this restaurant refused to pay the Yelp blackmail price. We recently visited Boulder for CU parent's weekend and treated our son and friends to a fantastic meal. First, we were quickly seated at a quiet round table where we could converse easily. There was something on the menu for everyone and all perfectly prepared. My vegan niece had a great polenta dish, my daughter had a hamburger, my husband had the steak/enchilada combo, my son had lobster ravioli, a friend had the prime rib sandwich, and I had the halibut special. We all left with clean plates and happy tummies. The wine and cocktail list were outstanding, and the service was perfect. It was the best meal we have had in the Boulder area. We are from Chicago, a city well known for food, and I have visited many of the finest. If this restaurant was local I would return many times, and will do so upon my return to Boulder. It was definitely worth a short drive off of Pearl Street. read more

We always eat at the Boulder Cork when we are in Boulder. It is my second favorite restaurant in the area behind the Flagstaff House which is one of our favorite in the US with its wine list that reminds me of Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa. The only issue I have at Boulder Cork is with their hostess. The last reservation, I asked to sit in one of the back rooms and my only stipulation was not to be in the middle of the room. They said since we had an early reservation it would not be a problem. When we arrived the hostess seated us in the middle of the room and said the only other table available in the area was a six top and we could not sit there. I can understand that, so no problem so far other than she removed the tableware where I was planning to sit without asking me or seating me. I moved the tableware after she left so no real problem again. What really did irk me was when a couple came in within 10 minutes and she turned the six top into a four top and seated them at the table I had asked about. I can still understand it if they were special customers or they had stayed a long time with many courses or wines but they were gone rather quickly. Even without our drinking the usual amount of wine we consume with a quality meal, the bill for the two of us was over $150 and I would have expected to be treated a little better by the hostess. That said, we will continue to go back every time we are in Boulder, I just hope they work on the skills of their hostesses. read more

Very disappointed! Graduation day and the whole menu is al a carte. The steak that my son ordered was 3/4 fat. We sent it back to the kitchen and they did make him a new one, but had the waitress tell us that the fat gives the steak flavor. Having been married to a chef I asked her, in this case did the steak give the fat flavor? She said that they don't always know the cuts that they receive. This a steakhouse, right? read more

Stopped for a business lunch and ordered a chicken Caesar salad. Fresh greens, tender grilled chicken, but.....who the hell puts vinegar and oil on a Caesar salad???!! And the waitress didn't know the difference! Worse is that the noise level was so high that we couldn't carry on a decent conversation. Certainly not a place that I'd recommend for either lunch or a romantic evening meal. Highly overrated! read more

Since I moved to Boulder over 13 years ago, the Boulder Cork has been my favorite restaurant. It doesn't have the view of the Flagstaff House, the contemporary feel of The Kitchen or the good press of Frasca. What it does have is a familiar yet refined feeling. The Cork (& Cleaver) has been around for almost 30-years. It has weathered business cycles and dining fads. If you want a piece of beef in Boulder, The Cork cannot be beat. The service is also much better than almost anyplace in Boulder. Many of the servers have been there for years. Don't let The Cork's location dissuade you - it adds to the charm of the place. If a restaurant can maintain such unique ambiance, consistent success and excellent quality while being in such an odd location, it must be doing something right. If you want to have a great dining experience and can't get into the hottest places, consider The Cork - you will not be disappointed. read more

Came last night for a big family get together and I was less than impressed overall. Without going into too much detail, the food reminded me of the "fancy restaurant" in my grandmother's nursing home. Artichoke was over-cooked and looked like it had been microwaved. None of the 5 appetizers we tried impressed anyone at my table of 8. I got the "pan seared" trout, which was in a "BBQ sauce", which should have been a red flag. It was soggy, flavorless and not a bit seared (that microwave may have played another role her) and was smothered in chopped under-ripe tomatoes and canned corn. I have no complaints about the spinach it was served with, and the rice was so unseasoned its not worth mentioning. I hate writing bad reviews, but reading through old ones, it seems like this place lost its mojo a few years back. read more

Boy, I tell you, I don't like writing bad reviews, but this place is not what it's cracked up to be. I think it use to be really good before, but now it just seems pretty average. The prices keep going up, and it seems like up farther than most places. We still stop in once in awhile, but maybe only once or twice a year. Not the once a month we use to do. If they would lower the prices, I think they'd get back some of their older timers. I just think the higher prices aren't justified for what you get. But that's just us. read more

The cork serves good food, I've only given it two stars because I can get better food at a cheaper price at the Chop House, the Cork's main (only) competitor in town. I just wasn't very impressed with my meal compared to what I get at the Chop House for about 30% less. read more

Great gem in boulder. Rustic, low lighting and we had a booth and that was awesone. The waitress was eloquent and friendly. The steak was great...a little too rare but I didn't complain. I finished my food and taters and the wine matched the meal. It is really a special occasion place but down to earth and expensive, as it should be because it is an exceptional steakhouse without the poshness. On several visits to the Cork with Boulder relatives, I'm not impressed with the food, service, or prices. For Boulder, I think there are better places to spend time and money for dinner. As others have said, for the most part this is another steak house and as they go, Boulder Cork ranks high on the list as one of the best. Their cuts are top notch and sides delicious (get the famous potatoes!) but also have other proteins if people arent steak lovers. Good wine selection and drink menu. A nice little steakhouse. Has a good winelist and decent beer on tap. My steak was cooked perfectly but was under seasoned. The roasted vegetables were very good. The menu isn't over burdened with too many choices and the food is always outrageously good - Never a complaint with anything I have had - Ambience is great and the staff is very friendly... A friend and I went to the Boulder Cork tonight for my birthday. I had never been, but decided to try it as I had a certificate for my birthday. I was very impressed! We enjoyed a leisurely dinner with great service. Our Server was Bonnie, and I would highly recommend her! She was funny, personable, and provided great service. The food was equally great. I ordered a filet with a side salad, and my friend ordered a burger with a salad. The salads were fresh and tasted great. My filet was so tender, hot, and flavorful. My friend loved her burger, and said it was one of the best she has ever had. To wrap it all up, Bonnie arrived at the table with a special birthday treat...the most delicious coffee ice cream cake piece. I never knew I loved coffee ice cream until tonight...complete with whipped cream, shaved almonds, chocolate gooey yummy-ness! I can't wait for my next visit back to the Boulder Cork! read more

Outstanding happy hour (get there by 4:30!!!!) in the bar, and a lovely, calm dining experience in the regular restaurant.
