If I could put 0 stars. I would I chose Born to Move based a written quote from the company. Before booking, I was quoted approximately $480-$560 to move a single couch from Chicago to Madison at a rate of $160 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Their website advertised that the hourly rate included the truck, movers, gas, tolls, mileage, insurance, and furniture protection. Based on those representations, I reasonably believed transportation-related costs were already factored into the quoted estimate. Imagine my surprise when my final invoice came to $960 -- approximately 71% higher than the estimate. The invoice included 3.5 hours of labor and an additional 2.5 hours of travel time, adding $400 to the final bill. My issue is not simply that the move cost more than expected. My issue is that the estimate, website advertising, and billing structure did not align. The website repeatedly states that transportation costs are included, while elsewhere disclosing that travel time is billed separately. Important pricing information appears buried deeper in the website rather than alongside the headline pricing. I also found multiple hourly rates listed throughout the website, making it difficult to determine what pricing actually applied. Had I known the move would cost nearly $1,000 rather than the quoted $480-$560, I would have obtained quotes from other moving companies before booking. To make matters worse, after filing a claim, I was informed by the claims administrator that the review process can take up to 120 days and that no status updates would be provided during that time due to call volume. As a customer, being told to wait up to four months without any updates does not inspire confidence that concerns will be addressed promptly or transparently. The movers themselves were polite but unprofessional. The pricing transparency, billing practices, and claims process left me extremely distressed as this was a gift for my mother and I had saved up for it. WARNING: DO NOT TRUST BORN TO MOVE FOR INTERSTATE MOVES FROM LA TO SEATTLE. (Request #36910 / FMCSA Case #00280238). I booked a direct carrier move from LA to Seattle with a signed binding flat-rate contract. The contract explicitly listed the partial packing services I requested would cost a fixed, pre-specified amount, and there would be "no ballpark estimates or hourly rates." As soon as the truck was completely loaded, however, this company pulled a classic bait-and-switch, inflating my bill by ~$800 and claiming packing was always intended to be billed at a separate hourly rate. The dispatcher, JJ, who of course had been perfectly charming during the initial intake weeks prior, *aggressively* gaslit me over the phone and tried to pressure me into a verbal compromise to "meet him in the middle," instantly revealing to me just how heartless this company truly was. I refused to back down. I got off the phone, triple-checked my records for my own sanity, demanded in writing that they preserve their recorded phone lines, and sent corporate written proof of their own contract. Management quietly changed my online portal on the backend to remove the fraudulent fees right before delivery, but of course that was not the end of it. At the truck in Seattle, they *still* forced an overcharge by refusing to honor their written 3% cash discount policy, which I immediately protested via text and email with the corporate office, and I have not yet received a satisfactory response. My honest evaluation as a consumer forced to become educated in a very short window of time? This is a PREDATORY company clearly counting on customers being too exhausted and stressed on moving day to fight back. And while the actual movers, the physical laborers, were perfectly adequate and almost certainly did not play any role in the illegal and unethical practices I have described, I have officially filed formal fraud complaints with the Federal FMCSA and the Washington UTC because, unfortunately, that is the level of involvement it takes to instigate meaningful outcomes. I was quoted and repeatedly confirmed a flat-rate interstate move from Massachusetts to New York. On moving day, after the crew arrived and reviewed everything in person, I was suddenly told I needed to pay an additional $320 due to the amount of items and an elliptical machine. I agreed and paid the extra charge before the move proceeded. The movers were careless with my belongings throughout the move. Furniture was dragged and banged into walls/floors, screws were left all over the ground, and multiple items were damaged, including my TV stand and bookshelf. What concerns me most is that four boxes from my shipment are now missing. I later learned my belongings had been transferred between trucks during transit without my knowledge. When I reported the missing boxes, the company denied responsibility and claimed everything was delivered, despite the fact that I clearly know items are missing. To make matters worse, they later attempted to claim I owed an additional $400 balance that was never disclosed, invoiced, or agreed to at any point during pickup or delivery. Communication throughout this process has been defensive and dismissive. Instead of meaningfully investigating the missing items, they shifted blame and routed everything through a third-party claims service. This was one of the most stressful moving experiences I've had. So that's what we picked for our quote. Our quote came back as 4.5 hours to move 3150 pounds at 60 cents a pound for an estimated total of like $1500. Beware of this scamming company I've never experienced such an unprofessional and fraudulent service in my life. They were three hours late, wasted time talking and smoking while they were supposed to be moving and then tried to scam us into paying twice as much before they finished. They threw furniture around, breaking several pieces that are now not functional and at 10 pm, demanded to be paid before they finished. They actually never completed the move, leaving several pieces at my old place that I had to pay a real moving service to move. (Shout out to ACM Movers who were great.) Our experience with Born to Move was excellent! They were very quick with a quote, arranged movers to come when we needed, and the movers themselves were very efficient! We had a few things that weren't ready in boxes, but they were contained in IKEA bags and the movers said it wouldn't be a problem. They moved everything so quickly, wrapped all our furniture and made sure to highlight any existing damages so we knew they didn't cause them. They dropped our stuff off and unloaded so quickly and intentionally by putting boxes labeled for each room in the right place. They also disassembled and re-assembled our furniture as needed. They made our move from Boston to New York such a breeze and were very flexible. read more

Terrible experience. Made to wait 6 hours while my movers went to finish another job in the middle of my move. Began the move at 9am on Friday, everything was already packed and it took ~45 mins to move out of the apartment. Drove to Pennsylvania which took around 2 hours, and waited at the destination for about an hour. Texted the movers asking for their ETA and they replied with saying that they were doing another job and will get there at 6pm. This was already a terrible reply since I had not been informed that they would go do another move after they had already taken my stuff. Called the company and they said they would give me a discount for the inconvenience. They arrived at 7pm and unloaded in about 45 minutes. They still charged me for the original invoice so the discount was also a lie. Absolutely horrendous. read more

Born To Move engages in misleading advertising and communication for their pricing and does not know how to estimate a move well. I cannot recommend the service to anyone. While the movers themselves were capable, the management places the service beyond redemption. In my recent move I had a terrible experience with BTM that resulted in: BTM not operating on their stated "flat rate" advertising, and charging $1400 extra The move out taking 11.5 hours vs the estimated 6 BAIT AND SWITCH: BTM initially quoted $3500 to move the goods in our 3BR house. When I sent in photos, they increased the quote to $5500, saying the prior person quoted it as a 1BR despite my clearly stating it was a 3BR. Since they could work with our timeframe and this was a flat rate, we reluctantly continued working with them. INSUFFICIENT MANPOWER & CAPACITY: The day before the move, my wife and I sent a full trailer of our belongings with my in-laws for our temporary housing. Plus there were things we planned to dispose of during the move, including a couch, an L-desk, 4 bookcases, a coffee table, 2 side tables, and a rug. This should have made the amount of stuff to fit in the moving truck even less than they were expecting. The movers arrived with four guys. After looking in each room at the amount of stuff, they asked if they could deliver everything to MN that evening, well ahead of our expectations. However, the move-out process was extremely slow. Also BTM did not take care of their own workers as they had little water and no food. I made a point to get them water and pizza so they could refuel. The entire move process took 11.5 hours, vastly beyond the time estimate. COMMUNICATION BARRIER: One of the movers asked if one of our couches was "trash," but his English was so poor I didn't understand. Later I found the $1500 sofa bed by the dumpster, clearly broken. I asked them to put it in the truck to fix in MN, but I would never have expected them to ask if a perfectly good couch was trash. They tried to fix the soft on final delivery, but I will not know until we move it out of storage. At a minimum it is damaged. POOR PLANNING: They also misestimated how much space they would need, and even without the stuff that was moved by my in-laws and thrown out, they could not fit 3 bikes, 2 grills, and 2 desk chairs. Were it not for my father's car we would have lost all of it, but I still lost 2 grills worth ~$300 due to BTM's failure to accurately estimate space. ADDITIONAL CHARGES: The BTM contract read, "LONG DISTANCE FLAT RATES OPTION: $5500 for household goods shipment moving from Chicago to Minneapolis." Once everything was loaded, BTM asked for another $900 due to the move taking longer than expected. Unfortunately I was in no position to say no, and agreed. Upon review their paperwork does state that if the move takes longer than expected the flat rate will start incurring an hourly charge, but they completely failed to estimate correctly even after viewing in person the total amount of stuff that needed to be moved. I will give credit that they made it to MN overnight and the movers were at the storage facility in Minneapolis at 9AM. However, once again they charged me more: The bill of lading was upcharged by $1140 rather than $900. I had no choice but to pay, and asked for the cash discount they had advertised, but they said no, that was just the credit card processing fee discount. The language says: We Can accept credit cards subject to 3.5% processing fee or Cash only. Note: We offer 4% off the bill when payment is made in cash. Finally they agreed to accept $6900 for the entire move. The storage unit move took 6 hours, and we provided water and energy bars as again, BTM did not provide their employees proper hydration and nutrition to do their job. SUMMARY: Actually BTM does not operate on a flat rate charge - that's false advertising. It is far more accurate to say they give customers an initial "minimum charge" and then increase it as much as they want because of their failures to forecast the time and manpower needed for the move. All in all, I paid $1400 more for the move than expected, lost valuable items, and took vastly longer than BTM estimated. I cannot recommend Born To Move to anyone and will never use them again. read more

Fast and cheap, but you get what you pay for. The movers broke one of our bed slats, tore the sheets bedsheets, put dozens of boxes in random places without reading the rooms they were clearly labeled for, and left without moving a piece of junk out of the destination house, something they promised they could do. They also banged up a large standing cabinet trying to get it up the stairs before concluding it was impossible. That's understandable; old New England houses have tough stairwells, but I wish they'd figured that out before leaving dents all over the furniture and the stairwells. They also somehow assembled a bed frame wrong such that it slanted downward. Would not recommend. read more

We appreciated that the movers were very friendly and worked quickly, but unfortunately the overall experience wasn't great. A number of our items ended up with new scratches and dents, a wall was damaged, and they spilled our coffee on our rug during the move. They also left doors wide open while it was freezing outside. Do not use this moving company. I hate to leave bad reviews for businesses but this is warranted and then some. We booked our August 2025 move 5 months out with full packing service from NYC to Boston. Given that the company says it specializes in moves between NYC and Boston, we thought it was a great fit at a reasonable price. Then the move happened... The movers showed up with less no more than 10 boxes and no tools to take apart furniture and couldn't complete the packing on the given day because they were so ill prepared. Then the movers said everything was packed only to find closets and bathrooms not packed. Moreover, the moving team attempted to hold up the job because we didn't reserve them street parking in MANHATTAN! When everything was finally packed, they informed us that they were double booked for the next day and they needed to complete the move that day. Our first night in our new home was dealing with them until midnight unpacking and trying to leave furniture unassembled. The final kick in the pants was that they damaged both of our TVs (because they didn't pack them in TV boxes), broke glassware, lost several items and damaged the interior of our new home. After waiting 120 days for a resolution, they denied all claims. I will be taking them to small claims court to recoup our damages and reporting them to the BBB. Avoid at all costs and be warned that they are unprofessional/dishonest moving company. read more

Updating based on response from owner, that enough should tell you not to use these guys. DO NOT USE! They were able to fit us in last minute after our other movers cancelled on us on Friday. However, the experience overall was not great and I wish we had just waited. The movers themselves were nice, but clearly overworked with multiple jobs in one day and to the point where we felt bad asking them to move stuff for example to the second floor. some of them would huff when we said "second floor" towards the end. The 3 hour minimum is way too much, we paid $660 ($220/hr) for a 1 hour job for 3 guys to unload a pod. And if we had paid credit card would have had to pay a 3% fee on top of that! (We paid cash and got a 5% discount). Also, it was not clear that the time given to us was a 3 hour window, and when we called to ask where they were, the man on the phone was pretty rude to my wife claiming he explained it over the phone, not true since we were unaware. Lastly, we realized today that the movers damaged one of our door jams brining in a couch things happen but it would have been nice if they told us. I sent the photo and message to our contact and received no response. We won't be using them again. There are more affordable and professional movers out there. read more

They did a terrible job the on our NYC to Boston move on 7/1. They showed up about 3 hours later than anticipated (after already emailing me the week before and pushing it back 2 hours) and said it was because of the traffic in NYC. This was during a part of the pandemic where there was no traffic, which seemed suspicious. We had booked them to help us pack since my wife was extremely pregnant. They had brought very few boxes (which they charged us for btw) and didn't even bring a sharpie so nothing was labeled. At the end of the move my wife and I were helping them a ton and packed the remainder of our stuff in trash bags since they had run out of boxes! We ended up finally getting our Boston move complete around 1am exhausted. Very unprofessional and sloppy - would not recommend. read more

Courteous, prompt to respond, really quick! and reasonable price. Moving is super stressful to begin with and I have never used movers before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Everyone I interacted was super friendly and gave me a good idea of what to expect. Process started with Alfie in office, who reviewed the information on phone and let me know on what to expect. I had shared an estimated list of items and was suggested to go for a 3-man team (@$129/hr). I had Alex and his team to help out with my move. They had some delay with their earlier job, but Alfie reached out to me ahead of time to inform about the delay. I really appreciate they did that, rather than letting me wait or call to check on them. They arrived, and we did a quick walk through the house before we began. Then they got to it. I felt it is better if you stay around and let them know any special instructions you want them to take note of, such as fragile items, things you want to be wrapped, etc.They are receptive. We had our boxes already packed and taped, so they moved them pretty quick. We had my beds already in plastic, they wrapped other futons in plastic so they didn't get dirty. Tables and furniture were wrapped in moving blankets. Loading was done pretty quickly. They secured things in the truck so it doesn't move around. Unloading was quick too. They asked if needed help to arrange any heavy furniture or boxes in the house before they left. We were good, so they gave me the receipt right away. Very quick with loading, unloading and all quality time you pay for. They came prepared with blankets, wraps and tape which were included in the price to make sure nothing got damaged. Best move I've ever had so far. We moved from a tiny apartment in Beacon Hill Boston with narrow streets for parking and 4-5 flights of narrow stairs, and the moving guys (Dimitri + team) moved everything quickly, safely, and efficiently. They were also on time/a few minutes EARLY, which was amazing. We just had an in-town move, so the whole ordeal only took a few hours and I didn't worry about a thing. They came prepared with furniture pads and took care of my furniture and even dissembling a couch that was a hassle to get up the stairs the first time we moved in. Leading up to the move, Alex was very quick to respond via text to my inquiries, which really put my mind at ease leading up to the move. I had a feeling they would actually show up on time (not a guarantee in NYC/Boston at all), so I was not worried about anything. Because they charge by hour, the move ended up being cheaper than expected - and they didn't dally to try to extend their time either. Selected this company for a NYC to Boston move based on all the glowing Yelp reviews. We scheduled this move weeks in advance as we were flying in from out of town and coordinating in a managed building. First warning sign was the company trying to charge us $100 for a COI (a common requirement in NYC which everyone does for free). Alex eventually waived this which was appreciated. On day of the move however as they were to arrive 11am-1pm... a mover texted us at noon saying sorry they'd be FIVE HOURS late! (at least 5pm) This blew our window to use the building elevator and our travel plans. The entire move was no longer possible. We left several messages with the dispatch line since it went straight to VM and were never called back, never apologized to, etc. The mover who originally texted us confirmed that they understood our forced cancellation with a "sorry" text. We had an extremely negative experience with Born to Move - please think twice before using them. My husband booked them weeks in advance for our July 1st move from NYC to Boston. We originally booked them to arrive at 8 AM; however, one week out from the move they called and said they'd arrive between 10:30 and 12:30. It was too late to book someone else, so we went with it. On the day of the move, they did not arrive until 2:00 PM. The two guys who came did not apologize for being late, and in fact told us that we should have secured a permit to park their truck (this was not mentioned to us previously). We had also booked them to pack for us, and had multiple email discussions about this beforehand. The guys seemed somewhat taken aback that they would actually have to pack, and did not bring so much as a sharpie to label boxes. They did pack us, but nothing was labeled, and they didn't have enough boxes so by the end everything was being packed in trash bags. We didn't leave NYC until 7 PM. We somehow beat them to boston by a full half hour, and they were not done unloading us until 2:00 AM - obviously not a great first impression to make on new neighbors.
