Truly an incredible experience! Booked it 2 weeks in advance. The cost was incredibly reasonable! They came exactly at 8 am ET, moved everything in 1 hour (thought it would take at least 2 hours). Everything was packed incredibly well, incredibly carefully, and with all needed coverings to keep them safe. Put everything in the new place, built everything very efficiently, and even offered to get missing screws if we needed from local Home Depot. What can I say, incredible experience! Place was fully built including difficult items to rebuild. Al in took 3 hours total with moving time. If you are thinking to move yourself, or get movers, think about Step By Step. It was just slightly more than yourself, but hassle free to the max! I cannot imagine ever not going with them. Was incredible, incredible experience and recommend it to anyone I know moving! This was also my second experience, and as good as the last! Seriously I am recommending them to anyone I know moving. I cannot imagine not going with them from now on, and will recommend again to all I know moving! read more

Do not hire Step-by-Step moving. They moved my neighbor in over a year ago, they got their large moving truck stuck in my driveway and it bottomed out causing damage to my driveway, hedge, berm. They promised several times to take care of the damage but failed to follow up.despite many attempts to seek remedy. My contact was John he had other people call me to arrange meetings only to have them not show up, or even tell me that they apwerent the right people to do the job. My neighbors were also unsuccessful in getting John to return their calls. Dt/Net, if you have any problems with your move, this company will not follow-through. read more

I have moved numerous times in my adult life and this company is the worst I have ever had. Heavy snow was predicted for the day of my move. They assured me that would not be a problem. On the day of the move, after we got up early and waited several hours, they canceled, and we had to reschedule for the next day. It would have saved a lot of time and aggravation had they decided to cancel when it was clear a blizzard was coming. The company has a printed list of things to do to prepare for the move. One is NOT to pack items in drawers and cabinets. They prefer to move the furniture with the items. When the movers arrived on the day of the move they realized the furniture was too heavy and they threw my clothes, papers, etc. into boxes. That later made my unpacking so much more difficult and time consuming. They lost the legs to my sofa, they ripped the paper shade of a lamp, they destroyed a Container Store wardrobe. I still cannot find the mate to a shoe. This is a very unprofessional company. Their work is terrible. read more

Step By Step Moving & Storage Company - This is how they treated my clothes. - Movers Near Me - Waltham, Massachusetts

I was told I should get a street parking permit for the truck, which takes up two car slots. I got all that taken care of. However, the day of our move - I got a call from Step by Step about 15 minutes passed the expected arrival time saying they had an issue with their original vehicle and are en route. The truck that arrived was... entirely too large for the permits I got from the city. I wish this contingency was planned for, I'd have paid for another permit. But it was too late - so we improvised. The truck ended up having to block the street for a short time. Some local drivers gave me an angry glare - but most saw the truck and drove around understandingly. Luckily, the arriving location had plenty of room for this massive vehicle. All that to say - the movers were super quick, treated our stuff with great care, and did a remarkable job. They were kind, good folks! And the cost for service was competitive- to our advantage. I've already recommended them to a friend. read more

I've moved lots. These were the worst. Broke lamps, damaged a bookcase, left rugs lying about to be eaten by moths in storage, lost screw to put my tv back together. I don't know how they stored my new mattress but it's destroyed. read more

We hired Step by Step to move us from Boston to NH in late June, and we couldn't have been happier with the service we got. The three-men crew showed up on time with a large moving truck and quickly got to work moving the boxes we had out of our tiny cramped apartment. They even gave us tips on how to re-pack things so that they wouldn't break, and I was grateful for the advice as everything made it in one piece (besides our old floor fan that was half-broken to start with). Even though it was the hottest day of the summer (100 degrees!) in our apartment with no A/C, and everyone was drenched in sweat, they were amazingly efficient and never once complained. When we got to our new home, they moved everything out and into the rooms we wanted faster than I could even run out and grab lunch. We were astounded. Every step of the way, they were friendly and professional, and we were really impressed by their strength, stamina, and expertise. Best of all, the actual price ended up coming in under the quote we got online. We understood that this was because our new home was very easy to move into. However, many moving companies would have pocketed the difference, so we really appreciate the honesty. You hear about so many moving company scams these days, but these guys are the real deal! We can't imagine having made that move without their help, and we are never going back to moving things ourselves again. We've recommended them since to all of our friends as they've moved out of the city and will definitely use them again if we ever come back to Boston. read more

The worst moving company I have ever dealt with. They overcharged me from the quote and left many personal items behind. I had to make numerous trips to complete move. I called the next day and I was told they would send a truck or refund me monies which they never did. I would highly recommend not using this company- very deceptive and poor service. I had to give a star to write the review but I would give no stars for this company. read more

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - BE AWARE - do not book 1) Let me start off by saying they came 4hrs LATE. Then I did half of the work.. They came to my place, everything was packed and ready to be sent out. They came from another job tired & lazy and were very much in my personal business asking LOTS of questions. 2) They did not wrap all my furnitures as I see in their reviews. My bar, coffee table, shoe rack, wall in new home are all scratched bad... 3) I had a portable closet with decorations I wanted in the basement of the home, I had to beg them to put it there. 4) They would not bring my full bed set upstairs in bedroom, only mattress -_- 5) They took over a 45min break on my time and lied about it. I came out to them sitting in grass talking and they also admitted to going to a gas station for food all on the time I'm paying. 6) IT DOES NOT TAKE 6+hours TO MOVE A 1bd. apartment. 7) One of the laziest movers said he'll talk to his boss to have him try to "give me a discount" for what happened, when he called, instead he told his boss I made him do the maximum work which is why the move took from 7:20pm-2am to get done. They did not take anything off after an hour of nonsense talk & lies. :( I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED in this company because something that should have help me instead inconvenienced me badly and burned my pocket. A move which was quoted at max $900-1000 ended up being $1,550. I should have went with another company but you know what -no money made good will treat you good- so I'm not worrying because I will always be in a position to pay SCAMS like them and they will be always stay in a position where that's all they can do. *Take people's hard earned money! ***CLOWNS. read more

We moved from Salem Massachusetts to Portland Maine. Three stories townhouse with a garage and an attic, we have two little kids so the house was full of stuff. Few things: 1. These guys work on Sunday - this is great! They packed us on Sunday and moved us on Monday which was very convenient 2. Everything worked great - full service packing, moving, getting everything into the new house. They were always on time. They broke nothing. They moved my fragile plasma TV and my very heavy real wood piano without any issues. 3. They had the best quote for us and what is even more important they did not charge us a penny more than the quoted price. 4. Everything was clearly and the property marked and there were no issues finding stuff. We search for movers for two weeks and I'm really happy we went with this company. Evgeni read more

Quoted price was much lower then charged price. For example storage was quoted at $300 then charged $500. Charges 3 hours for moving in and 3 hours for moving out of storage unit where it only took 2 hours to unload and unpack the truck into the house. Most disappointing part was driver of truck decided to run into one of my trees with the truck doing serious damage to a very old tree. Pay a little more and go with a quality company. Also, didn't deliver a ladder during the move which they were clearly keeping. Took 2 weeks then the ladder magically appeared at the office. read more

I used them to move a hot tub which they advertise as a service on their site. I got a quote of $780. It took them 2 hours to move it 80 ft to the truck. My cost ended up being nearly double at $1400. Besides this they left trash, cigarette butts, boxes, and moving blankets at my house. read more

Had a great experience with our office move. We hired Step by Step to move our office equipment from one location to another. We had the office pre-packed, which included 13 desks, file cabinets, a couch, chairs, overall about 75 pieces. The movers arrived on time and were ready to go. They were professional, explained everything they would be doing and took great care with our items. It was also nice to get email/text updates and reminders prior to the move. I would highly recommend Step by Step movers to others. read more

Movers were an hour late. They gave me arrival window to be 8-9am, but the truck arrived past 10am. We called the company's round 9am, the call was disconnected. Again at 9:30 am, the company said the driver will arrive in 30 minutes. Movers are very friendly and efficient. There was a patch of sand-like shards of glasses on one of my boxes. Payment is by personal check or cash! They charged 3% fee for credit card. read more

Absolute nightmare move, worst I have ever experienced in the Boston area. I hired step by step for a one bedroom move. 1. I paid for 3 movers, when the 3 movers showed up they refused to work because some of my items could not fit in the elevator. After they sat in their truck in front of my building for 90 minutes, 2 of the movers came up to perform the job. 2. My items were dragged across the floor and street rather than being lifted. No hand trucks, furniture protection, or any standard moving equipment of any kind was used. My bed frame was destroyed, my leather recliner lost a foot, my leather couch was completely frayed, my chest of drawers became unusable, boxes were smashed. In addition the move took over 5 hours (6.5 when you add in the time before the work began) and I was charged for 6. 3. The next morning I received a settlement offer that was both inadequate and possibly fraudulent, where I had selected replacement value insurance and the quote was based on the cheaper insurance option. I am still working on getting this settled. 4. The "moving consultant" was unable to get his employees to work and scheduled them to perform multiple moves so they were exhausted. No additional or replacement movers from the company were available so I was stuck with the 2 guys that showed up. To top it off this moving consultant Gleb deactivated his phone so now I have no way of reaching him. Again, a total nightmare, do not use Step by Step. read more

Great experience with Step By Step. We moved from a 3br to another 3br within town (1.5 miles away). I saw that their rates were reasonable and they had stellar reviews on Yelp, so I reached out. Started with a few email interactions with Gleb, who set up some time to come over my house to take inventory of the furniture that we'd be moving. The next day, I got the quote back, which was much better than what another moving company quoted me (by several hundred dollars) so we went with them. Double checked with Gleb a couple days before the move and he confirmed that we'd still be on. On the day of the move, the crew (Igor, Jordan and Arthur) was to arrive between 7-8am; they showed up right in between at 7:30. Took a quick walkthrough of the house before signing the job sheet as starting at 7:50. The best way I can describe their work is "no-nonsense;" they worked very quickly and efficiently. They thoroughly shrink-wrapped or taped moving blankets over every piece and got them down the steps with ease; we lived in the 2nd and 3rd floor of a 2-family unit and they were able to haul down some very heavy (and expensive) Italian-made solid wood pieces like it was nothing, and without a single scratch. They didn't take any suspicious, prolonged "breaks" and ding you for it like some other companies do (according to their Yelp reviews). I was actually pressing bottled waters into their hands because they were pretty much working nonstop and it was HOT that day. All in all, Gleb's quote turned out to be the exact price I paid at the end of the day. I would definitely recommend this company, they are true professionals who respect both your home and your belongings. They took every measure to ensure that nothing (whether the house or the items) got damaged. read more

We LOVED these guys! I felt it since before I even asked for a quote. Loved them so much that I am posting this review while eating immediately after our move that just finished! We were in serious need for movers from a 2 bedroom apartment office combo. So not just living stuff but 2 very intense offices with large gear and technology and my 27 year old piano. And with me being 8 mo pregnant we needed the help!! First of all with the piano I immediately saved $700 by not going to DeathWish piano movers. These guys handled it like pros. They were so helpful and nice and made this entire process fun and full of laughs! Wonderfully priced wonderfully managed and can't recommend them enough!!!! read more

It was my first experience with movers and this was great! They were on time, organized and efficient. I had to write my card information on a piece of paper, which I thought was unusual, but apparently that is typical of a moving company. I'm hoping not to need movers for a while, but next time I do, will definitely reach out to Gleb and his team. read more

I had a last-minute change in my moving and had to ask them to move extra items. I choose them because their rate was competitive, and the reviews were great- I am glad that I worked with them. These guys are awesome! I found them after reaching out to about 10 different movers in the area. I chose them because they were very well priced, had great reviews and were available on my date. The move could not have gone smoother. They were very professional, came when they said they would and worked very quickly while stilling giving my stuff the gentle care it needed. I hope I'm not moving again soon but will definitely be going back. read more

This company is awesome! I had a large office move. There was a ton of detail and I was pulled in many directions which limited the amount of direction I could provide. I am sure this was not ideal for the crew but they never said anything and they worked SO HARD. This was an all day job and I could not be more thankful for them. I would rely on Step by Step for any moving job I have. I have shared their work with friends and will recommend them to anyone in need. read more

Hired these movers for my 1BR apartment after "Requesting a Quote" from ~15 businesses about moving for a 1BR. They had the best rate of all the moving companies by far, at $89/hr for two movers, which was totally sufficient. The low (comparative) cost didn't mean a decrease in quality. They expertly and quickly wrapped up and disassembled the furniture that needed it, and unwrapped it and reassembled it in the new apartment. The entire process was entirely painless and made moving a lot less terrible! The one thing is my laptop was in my backpack (with no protection, no case or anything), and glass on the back of the laptop somehow broke. However, Step By Step was willing to fully cover the cost of sending the laptop back to the manufacturer to getting a replacement, and were really helpful in making sure I was totally satisfied with the move, even with this honest mistake. I'd recommend these movers to anyone trying to move. read more

Gleb, Yegor, and the rest of the team at Step by Step were extremely helpful and I had absolutely no problem moving all of my belongings into my new 1-bedroom apartment in the Allston/Brighton area! They arrived right during the 1-hour morning time window that they specified, and were able to not only load and unload all of my boxes, but also disassemble/reassemble and carefully pack a lot of the bigger or more delicate furniture in only a couple hours. I'm sure my back will thank me a million times over, because disassembling and moving all of the heavy furniture out of my old apartment would have taken me at least twice as long, and I would have inevitably broken something. The whole experience was a breeze, and executed so well, that I was surprised it was over so quickly without any stress! The movers also really tried to make sure to accommodate my needs as much as possible with regards to furniture placement in my new place. And an added benefit was how transparent the pricing was; I had a very reasonable estimate given to me, listing not only the standard rate but additional charges for other services or supplies provided. I would absolutely recommend these guys to anyone looking to hire a team of professional, efficient and courteous movers for any move in the future! read more

This should be your first and only stop when searching for a moving company! I sent out messages to local companies and Gleb immediately contacted me to gather additional information in order to provide an accurate quote. Further, he worked to ensure we remained within my budget. The request process was simple and efficient. Fast forward to the day of the move - Alex and Jordan showed up ahead of schedule (they politely called me to advise they finished early and would wait at my apartment until I arrived). As soon as I arrived, they jumped into action and were able to completely load the truck with my one bedroom in less than an hour. Additionally, they were careful to not scratch the floors/walls and were very friendly throughout. This remained once we arrived to my new apartment. In less than an hour they had completely unloaded the truck and had me moved in to my new place. Needless to say, I'm wary with moving companies as I've had awful experiences previously. However, this entire process was painless and I couldn't be happier. A big thank you to Alex & Jordan; you were both great! Gleb, same to you my friend. If I need to make another move (hopefully not anytime soon...), I'll be in touch again! read more

I would not recommend this moving company. We initially thought hiring movers would make the move less stressful, but it did not. Similar to other posts, we had a move window and the guys showed up 1.5 hours late (and after going to a wrong address in another part of Boston.) We had to call to find out where they were. It was disappointing that they were not even communicative about this mistake and the extreme delay. When they arrived to move out our 750 square foot apartment (We had a one bedroom with only a few pieces of big furniture), we were quoted that they whole thing would take about 4 hours to load and unload at the new place, which we agreed. There were 3 men and my husband moving things out and it took them 4 hours to move everything out from just one location. I understand the work went longer than expected, but then we hit rush hour traffic. When I arrived one of the three guys was outside sitting on his phone, while our place was still not packed up. They broke a large decorative mirror, but insisted we pay full price for the 4 extra hours and just call the office the next day. When we called the gentleman took days to get back to us about a refund for just the mirror, and this was only after we followed up with him about the refund. I expected much, much more from this experience and I am disappointed with customer service. The guys were perfectly nice, but lacked a sense of urgency and competency. It truly felt like they were nickel and diming us because they were paid by the hour. read more

They were quite efficient and communicated well. Almost nothing got damaged (the few tiny dings that happened were my fault for not packing things a little better ahead of time); it was definitely the right decision to hire movers rather than try to get my friends/family to help! Leave the heavy lifting to the professionals, that's what money is for! The only hiccup that happened was I originally hired two guys, but then when my circumstances changed and I was moving to a larger apartment and kept all my furniture, I was supposed to have three guys; on moving day, only two came. So there was some mixup on their end, but it wasn't a big deal. Three guys would have done the job faster but it also would have cost more, so I think in the end it was a wash. read more

For a couple of guys that were not body builders, they sure are strong. I am fairly strong for my size, and I cannot do what they do. These guys are a testament that you can be really strong without doing steroids. My attitude is if it is for a horse, then it is not for you. These guys are the legitimate thoroughbreds of the moving industry. I just moved today and I could not be happier. Wakefield to Wakefield, baby, yeah! Just like the name says, they move you through the process step by step. They take all of your information by phone, confirm it with you by email. They call you about 30 minutes before arriving, and they call again as they are arriving. Although I had a small apartment moving job, it was done in under an hour which I thought was great. I am no expert on moving prices, but I thought the 330 dollar range was fair. They were polite and ready to go, professionally wrapped everything and they always went the extra mile. Being from Watertown, they service the greater Boston area, including Wakefield which is a plus for all aspiring moving companies. Because everybody wants to live in Wakefield. Everybody. That is why housing prices are sky high. And all of you people that want to live in Wakefield and around Wakefield will need a quality and professional mover. And these guys are it. From the customer service representatives to the actual movers. I have seen the other reviews for local movers, and they are alright, but none of them compare to this company. They said they would be here by 9 a.m., and they were here before 9 a.m. with a call that they were coming. These guys will be getting busy, so if you are seriously considering them for your summer or fall move, I would make that appointment today. Has the Yelpmaster General ever let you down about any good businesses that service the Wakefield area? And if they do not satisfy you, then you are crazy! read more

These guys were OK. Estimate was far below actual cost, but I expected that. All moving companies do that. Packing was super slow then unloading was way too fast. I would absolutely recommend step by step movers to a friend!!!! We just moved yesterday and the guys were great. So polite, helpful, speedy, and efficient. We had only gotten a few days notice for our move so we weren't done packing. They were very agreeable and just kept taking things away as we packed. We hired Step by Step Moving & Storage in October 2017 for moving from a 2-bedroom apartment to a 4-bedroom house 11 miles away. Job was completed in 5.5 hours. Our crew consisted of Igor, Ovidio, and Alex, and we thought they were a great and friendly team. Ovidio was extremely personable and friendly, Igor had supernatural strength, and Alex was the source of witty one-liners. The main contact I dealt with for coordination was Gleb and I found him extremely responsive and thorough with answers. The move itself was outstanding, and Gleb was fair with pricing. The team was kind and caring. They made sure the move was quick and simple for us. Definitely recommended. Thank you!

I was quoted a 2 hr arrival window during which they were supposed to arrive. 30 mins after that window, I got a text that the first job was taking longer and they would be 2.5hrs late. I get that things happen, but it would have been nice to get a phone call earlier if they anticipated being late. We ended up not being moved in until 9pm and the friends coming to help us unpack had to leave before then. When they arrived they were nice and efficient. The truck had a lot of blue grease on it which got all over our boxes and duffel bags and was smeared throughout our new apartment. They gave us another mover to make up for being late, but the whole experience wasn't great. I actually just ended up moving carloads of items to our new place while we waited for them to arrive. I had also inquired about pricing via their website messager but never got a reply. Turns out you save 5% if you pay cash. That would have been nice to know. Also, there are hidden fees for use of furniture wrapping, tape, supplies, etc that added an extra $50 or so. We usually have friends help us move. I thought having movers would eliminate some of the stress but my experience added stress in other ways. read more
