Ordered fried chicken wings and it came completely raw inside (cold and pink). Luckily I didn't swallow and spit it out. They brought a second order and the chicken was still not completely cooked. When we got the bill, we had to ASK to get it taken off our bill. Hope we don't end up in the hospital tonight from samonella poisoning. We had to ask to get more water and also for our wine to be poured. They couldn't pour the wine (had trouble opening the bottle?!) so they got it to our table after we were already 75 percent finished with our meal. In my old age, I've really gotten into ordering soups as my main meal. I dream of their bone broth and the noodles and try to eat here every time I am in town. Their other dishes are really fresh, beautifully presented and the interior (closed for now) is a great small restaurant set up. This is where I go to pay attention to my meal companion and eat every last noodle. It's great later too, but I usually finish the soup in one sitting! read more

This is my second time here. First time was getting Togo. The food was very salty and oily. We happened to be in the area so this was our first time dining here. They have the worst service ever. We were dining with our kid, and server was very very discriminate with our kid. Two server kept telling me we only have 2 people and tried to squeeze us in a very very tiny table. And someone looks like owner or manager guy said they want to get more business, so they do not count kid as a headcount. Be aware if you are dining with your kid. If this is not a kid friendly restaurant, you should let us know when we made reservation. read more

Excellent service, good food, unfortunately the restaurant itself has an overpowering urine or fish smell. Pros: + Service was very attentive. + Bone broth with sirloin was very tasty and probably the best broth I've had. + Blue crab lumpia was very tasty as well, very meaty and $10 gets you 4 big fat lumpias which are bigger than most Chinese egg rolls. + Prices were reasonable. + I like the tableside presentation of putting your bowl with the ramen noodles and meat down first (dry) then opening the thermos full of hot bone broth and pouring over the top. Cons: - The water glasses are tiny (4 oz?) so the servers have to come refill them every 2 minutes. I prefer substance over style to have normal water glasses. - When we first walked into the restaurant we were hit by an overpowering smell which reminded us of urine or the "fishy" smell of stale fish, but they don't sell fish. Thought we'd try this new place. Looked interesting. Our terrible experience made sure we will never return. Very rude hostess and manager. Last night (6/3/17) we arrived at 7:40 and were told by the hostess that there was a "maximum" 30 minute wait for bar seating, but most likely it would be 15-20 minutes. She said she would text us when our table was ready. After about 20 minutes, we asked her where we were on the list and she said it would be an additional 30 minutes. At this point, we were hungry and could have eaten somewhere else but asked to speak to the manager. The manager, who we very rude and condescending said it was at least an hour for a seat. We said we understood it was a busy saturday night but wanted to know why we were told by the hostess that there would be a "15 to maximum 30 minute" wait - and if it was going to be an hour or more we simply would have appreciated an honest answer at the beginning. The hostess then said she never said "15 to 30 minutes" and actually accused my wife of lying (she used those words). It is not very nice being called a liar by anyone, especially someone in the service industry and my wife, very calmly stated this fact. The manager then said that our voicing our concerns was disturbing her paying customers and suggested we wait outside. She then, very condescendingly told us she'd be willing to "allow" us to take out an order. This was the final insult and we left. We were prepared to order $200 worth of food. I suppose the owners and management of this place don't care about potential customers. The happy ending to this story is we went into Osawa, one of our favorite Japanese restaurants. It was also very crowded, but the host, seeing how upset we were, did some magic and had us seated in 10 minutes. This is how you treat people. read more

Got a takeout order from this place, and the food was absolutely amazing. I ordered the chicken wings, the oxtail dumplings, and the bone broth with brisket. The wings were crunchy and flavorful. The oxtail dumplings had a twinge of surprising sweetness to them but were still very good. And the bone broth with fatty brisket (and carrots, onion-which I left out of my bowl - and cilantro) was perfectly decadent comfort food. Let me just clear the air and get this out of the way before I start this review. They have the potential for something significant, they have the esthetics, the attentiveness and the identity. With every new business you're gonna run into some growing pains, a few road blocks and a learning curve. We had dinner reservations at seven, the hostess immediately takes us to our table, she says Ryan will be our server for tonight. After a couple of minutes, we were ready to order, so we flag down a waitress (cuz Ryan was no where to be found) & gave her some instructions. The hostess was walking passed us with an amuse bouche in her hand, so we stopped her and asked, "what is that"? She said, "Oh, did you not get one"?? "Here you go". She thoroughly explains the contents and emphasizes on the progression. Some pickled mini-onions, sliced cucumbers and salted shelled peanuts. It was good. Poetically, In some ways, we were walking into new territory - never had Indonesian fare before, although geographically there is a certain familiarity with the surrounding cultures (the Philippines, Singapore & Vietnam), all in all, there was still an exciting sense of anticipation. First up - the roasted cauliflowers with cucumber-yogurt. Very distinct flavors (reminiscent of Indian spices). A nice plate. Next, we had the Short-rib Rendang. I'm a big fan of braised short-rib, and for some reason, this fell a little short for me personally. No disrespect to chef Tjahyadi, the texture was slightly dry and a tad bit stringy. It was missing the "rich" element, that unctuousness from either the rendered fat or the creamy reduction from the sauce. Next up, the steamed ox-tail dumplings. Possibly one of the more outstanding plates we've had thus far. The San Bai Su sauce had a heavy hand with the star-anise blend, the dumpling was tender (a nice chew to it), the micro-mushroom gave it that extra umami. In spite of that, the ox-tail was served in room temperature and it missed the mark on richness & creaminess, it was somewhat mild and almost faint in retrospect. And finally, the star of the show, the name sake broth & noodles arrives along side with the braised ox-tail trio. Both look visually stunning, the ox-tail was RICH, creamy, gelatinous, flavorful etc. the bone broth was exceptional, aromatic, you can taste the thirty-six hours of simmering magic. The noodles have a bounce to it (al dente) perfect. And for dessert, a complimentary warm cassava-cake with avocado ice cream to match. Thank you Ryan! I really wanted to like this dessert, sadly, the avocado ice cream consistency was more like a slush, the toasted coconut crumble was nice and smokey. The cassava needed more cassava, bottom line. Final thoughts... Had some minor setbacks, some unsettling nerves, confusion with certain orders, some credit card issues, other than that - it was a good night out. The dish was delicious my only complaint is it contained no short rib, it just had steak on top. Said wow delicious, or whether that I was expecting. I ordered from here a few days ago I am have mixed reviews about this experience. I ordered the fatty brisket Rahman which was really good. The bone broth was a little rich so I couldn't finish it but the flavor after I added sriracha was good. Anytime this ox tails on the menu at a restaurant, I have to try them. I was super excited to try this oxtail appetizer that says it came with the rice. My dish had no rice and it was over seasoned with lime juice. Unfortunately, this is the worst oxtail I've ever had. Bone Kettle is a good-ish restaurant, but it's not a great restaurant. The food simply is NOT great. Our party of four had six dishes that we shared, and only one was a standout. Deserved kudos go to the oxtail dumplings. Bone marrow was a huge failure, a nearly tasteless oily glop-in-a-bone. Gule was flavorful, but ridiculously expensive at $19 for a simple vegetable curry, and even more ridiculous when we added shrimp and got exactly four medium-sized shrimp for an extra $10. And oh, you want rice with that? That will be an extra $3. Nasi Goreng (fried rice with ribeye) was quite good. But chicken satay was only standard, about the flavor you might expect anywhere else, yet here it's double the price. Oysters were small. Pepes (fish in a spicy chili) was hot, yet oddly bland. The whole experience was underwhelming. Even the iced tea was off; it tasted like light-brown colored water. No tea taste. The dining spaces at Bone Kettle are pleasant and the service is prompt, but the restaurant has the audacity to charge an automatic 20% tip on a bill and THEN CHARGE TAX on the entire amount including the tip! Our server pushed it further over the top by asking if I wanted change back from my cash. A good restaurant meal should be an intoxicating mix of great food, inviting atmosphere, and happy interactions. Bone Kettle makes earnest attempts to supply all three, but everything is just a forgettable glop, like their bone marrow. Dinner for four with two glasses of wine was $262 including (automatically added) tip and tax. This place is ok. But you can do better elsewhere. read more

The menu is narrow and centered around the soup/ noodle dish however the Bone Broth at Wholefoods tastes more authentic and wholesome than this. There's a fine line between seasoned versus salty, the soup tasted plain salty. It lacked the aroma and nuances of any true meat or bone-stewed soup and reminded me moreso of a sho-Yu (soy sauce) soup. Was disappointed the food here didn't match up with the beautiful decor or concept. The dish presentation was dressed up nicely with colorful sliced veggies and slivered onions, but didn't taste healthy or restorative like a true bone broth should. read more

The meat was tender and pulled easily right off the bones and the fiery kick of the red and green diced chili peppers left me with a delicious sweet peppery afterglow. The Mapo Tofu fries were perfect with the oxtails: what a delicious combination of minced pork, tofu, garlic chives and a delicious savory broth- like coating... definitely finger looking good ". However the food was slightly above sub-par, we ordered the chicken wings which were pretty good; the Nasi Goreng rice which was quite bland; and I also tried the broth from one of the soups that my friend ordered it wasn't tasty at all. This was upsetting because I've been wanting to try this place for months and I had such high expectations for it due to their food presentation.
