I have tried almost everything on their menu and can say that its great if you are missing Indian street food like Pav-Bhaji, Bhel, Chaats etc. Great vegetarian food . This place is family owned and they try to maintain the standards. Its a self service place so you need to order your food before you sit down. The service is quick , and the place is clean. The Chai(Tea) is really nice and yes I like their Bombay sandwich too. Dablei is Ok, it basically lacks the actual flavors in the filling , and sometimes the Chaat is also kinda low on spices(Talking of the Indian chaat flavors). I think it's just a hit or miss sometimes. Prices for real cheap. It isn't fancy or anything special on decor but people love the food here. Ample of parking outside in the complex. I had the following here: sev puri chole puri bombay special masala dosa mango lassi ras malai dahi puri i know that's a lot, but as an avid food enthusiast, i wanted to try most items on their menu since you dont find these chaat items on other restaurants. The place is nice and spacious and self service to order. the only disappointment is ras malai- hence the one star out! It milk balls were dry, hard, and did not taste anything close to ras malai. This is the place we come to whenever we feel like eating some good old Mumbai street food. The chaats are very well made. I like their dosa as well. The vada pav is nice but I wish they used actual pavs instead of burger buns. They have thalis too, though I am yet to try them. Definitely a place where we are regulars! read more

I saw this place out of the corner of my eye, intending to eat someplace else. I like good quality Indian food and I was looking for someplace with guilt free eats. I saw that Bombay is vegetarian and Express ... I'm on a schedule today. The food arrived really quickly. I got the meal of the day: about a cup of cheese paneer and cauliflower with potato curry with hot soup. Lots of flavor and not too spicy. Soft music -- and I arrived around 4pm so it was quiet. I noticed they have desserts also. Very affordable, by the way. If you blink you'll miss it, so call them if you have to. They are very hospitable. read more

"Feel good Indian homely food", that's what you get here. I come here whenever I am too lazy to cook and just want to have some simple flavorful food. They serve meals all day which works extremely well with my late lunch timings! They serve a lot for a small price. I have only ever had their meals and rasmalai so I can't vouch for anything else on their menu. The rasmalai is amazing btw. They also have a sweet staff. They once gave us all free methi paranthas and some more to take home. They were delicious !! I love this place. Keep up the good work ! :) read more

This is one of my favorite go-to spots in Austin to satisfy my craving for Indian vegetarian snacks and meals. In case you are not familiar with Indian food, the items listed under Chaat are considered to be snacks in India. However you can even make a meal out of it! The interior is spacious. Service has been good during each of my visits here. Items under Chaat and Taste of North India are what I like to order. Specifically the papdi Chaat, khastha kachori, pav bhaji and poori aalo. They are not spicy or overbearing but definitely flavorful. If you like Indian desserts, do give the gajar halwa a try! Also a special mention- in case you order items to-go you will not be disappointed with soggy food by the time you reach home. We popped in here for a quick bite for dinner on our drive home from Dallas to Fischer. We don't have much variety out there. So we always try to find something ethnic on our way through Austin. We found it 1 exit before we had to get off the freeway. The owner was fantastic. He guaranteed we'd love everything and if we didn't he'd trade it until we found something we liked. Wow that's was a great offer. But we didn't need to use it. We enjoyed everything we ordered. We had a masala dosa, parathas, roti & samosas. It was all spices great and had excellent flavor. The owner cane to check on us twice. He even took a moment to explain what the dishes were at the table next to us. What a great way to try new dishes. The food was amazing, but I'm equally impressed with the customer service. I came to Bombay Express to get take-out to surprise my wife for her birthday meal at home. The owner was generous in taking his time to tell me about each possible selection in order to create the best experience for my wife. I enjoyed listening to him, so I asked if he could record a video sending a happy birthday message to my wife from Bombay Express. He agreed and offered a heartfelt blessing. When I arrived at home, revealed the meal, and showed the birthday wishes from the owner, she was touched. My wife tasted the love Bombay Express cooked into every selection on the sampler platter, but she also experienced the hospitality of the Bombay Express team through the video message. It made her day! It's these small acts of intention, going above and beyond, that really set the Bombay Express experience apart. I'm in a trance when I walk into Bombay Express. I end up here every weekend. I don't choose to do so. It just happens. I crave it. How did I last a week without it? A week is not a long time. It's not anxiety that I feel while I wait. Nothing is felt. It is numbness. It is emptiness. I cannot understand the world around me. I am lost. I am wandering. I order my meal, then wait for it to arrive. The smell of perfectly blended spices clears my head for a second. Now, I am anxious. My eagerness swells. When my meal arrives, I realize that this is what I've been missing. This is what I crave most. This is a void that nothing else can fill. Eating Thali on the weekends is my religion. It is perfection.  Thali is a meal platter that comes with two curries (usually, one of those is an incredible goat cheese curry,) rice, dal (a soup), roti, puri, an appetizer and a dessert. It's a huge meal. Of course, that's not enough for me. You see, I am a true fatass. I believe in carb loading for fun, so a Chole Samosa is also in order. That's Samosas topped with a chickpea sauce, onions, and a sweet and sour chutney. After my meal I feel like I am one with the universe. Nirvana? Nah, it's just a food coma. This is what it's all about for me. As much as I love steaks, burgers, BBQ, and cat videos on YouTube, none of them will ever, truly, have command over me the way vegetarian Indian food does. Kimberly K invited a group of us yelpers to join her in a Friday lunch here ... I had never heard of the place, but I am always up for anything. Boy was I enlightened! I wasn't aware of how the food is regional in India and now I am. My mind was blown ... everything was amazing! Philip B, Kimberly K and Misha S and I all decided to just order whatever we all thought sounded good! It was the best way to do it. Then we were served up family style. There wasn't one thing I didn't like. There was this on dish that reminded me of a frito pie - it was definitely Indian street food and simply fantastic. We usually like Bombay express, used to be very good food for the price you pay. Recently we ordered the food through uber eats and the Rava Onion Dosa with chillies was overly salted and too much of chaat masala which killed the taste. Also the sambar was overly salted which made it impossible to eat with the dosa and the uttapam. Ordered chole poori, they for got to put chole. The khasta kachori and bhel puri were very soggy, you would think that since they are delivering, they would keep the sauces in separate containers. We had couple of missing items which were charged for. The quality has definitely has gone down. Am absolutely not happy with food and with the quantity that they are giving. I rarely give a bad review and more so to a place I used to love. This was one of our favorite restaurants while living in Austin. But everything that could go wrong, did so this time: - They didn't serve our dine-in order for long time and finally after a long wait realized they had packed it as takeout - A friend who ordered food without onion/garlic was given food with it. - The friend was also billed an extra item they didn't order - They ran out of regular sambar which they served us for first item and served a watery one for 2nd item, and forgot to add any salt to it - After they realized the sambar had no salt, they probably added a lot more and the last 2 items came with too much salt. - They probably ran out of tea, so what was served to me almost seemed like black tea or left over. - And if this was not enough, we could hear a loud argument/fight going on inside the kitchen. So all in all seemed like a whole messy day for them. I never waste a grain of food on my plate, but today we threw away 3 cups of sambar(or colored water) and tea. Such was the quality. Some of the items were good like poori and lassi, while some others had a few flaws. But all those little positives hardly matter with such poor service. read more

All vegetarian food makes this place pretty awesome for us veg heads. To preface this, I rarely, if ever, go out to eat Indian food. I don't understand the menus and the food is a little too mysterious for me. Same holds true here as well. The menu is a pretty long list of Indian food names, but not a lot in terms of a description, so it's always a surprise for what you're actually ordering. Last time I was at Bombay Express, I ordered the Cheese Dosa because I like cheese (still don't know what a Dosa is). What came out was an enormous, glorious, crunchy, cheesy pizza shaped "dosa". It was amazing - particularly when dipped in the tasty sauce that it came with. Although the atmosphere in this restaurant is lacking (it's basically Indian fast food), it is very inexpensive and the mystery food is quite tasty. Highly recommend it for a quick lunch. read more

This is hands down my favorite Indian place so far in Austin... of course I haven't tried them all, but this place definitely puts out some excellent food. The Thaali is awesome... but I really don't like that it comes on a Styrofoam plate. UGH! :( I just had eating out of Styrofoam. The Thaali usually has some Korma and then some potato dish. They let me sub out the potato, which is just awesome (since I'm not the biggest fan of potato). The little side salad could be left off the plate as it's not really worth eating, but whatever, who cares? The Dahi Batata Puri is my favorite Indian junk food. So good w/ the yogurt on there. You have to eat them fast though because they get soggy... so invite people to eat that with you. The Pani Puri has a similar set of flavors, it's just that the crunchy stuffs come in a different form. Overall both are delicious, but I prefer the Batata because of the yogurt. The Vada Pav is pretty good too, as is the tomato omelet. Really I have not had anything that doesn't taste good here... although one of my coworkers mentioned that they seemed to have changed their recipe for their samosas because the filling is much more dense. He doesn't order them any more because of this. I can't really say since I don't think that I have had either version. If you like Indian food, then this place is not to be missed. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere very strip-mall, and the prices are right. But it's the food that you go for, and the food you return for! Possibly my favorite vegetarian and favorite Indian restaurant in Austin! I get good and hungry, make the weekend trek up north and get the thali plate. Bombay Express is similar to Swad, in that they specialize in street food and snacks, but there are also meal specials for lunch and dinner, and a weekend thali special. They mostly serve up Southern Indian food, but some Northern dishes make an appearance. You order at the counter, sit down and they bring your food out, usually fairly quickly. I absolutely love their khadi, a soup sometimes included in the special, and the dosas. Many dishes are vegan since they use corn oil instead of ghee. Prices are inexpensive and conducive to ordering up a bunch of new dishes to share. Bombay Express is a family affair - mom, dad, son, grandparents. All are super friendly and helpful. Oh, and can I get a witness? It's so nice to visit an Indian restaurant where female customers aren't invisible beings. Some other restaurants around town might want to look into that unless you don't want my money. Which you aren't getting at the moment. Just sayin'. The restaurant is new and very clean, but I do have two cons. It's in a Wal-Mart strip-mall far north and the plastic containers/plates/utensils. Maybe they will ditch the plastic eventually. I found about this restaraunt on Yelp and used a visit from a good friend as an excuse to check it out. We both loved it. Everything we ordered was tasty. My masala dosa was huge and crisp. The filling was spicy, but not too much. My friend had samosas which were gone before I even thought to ask for a taste. He also enjoyed a mango yogurt drink. I'm not too familiar with the food but everything on the menu was vegiterian and I will be going back to try out other items. It's a little difficult to find the first time. It's in a shopping center off the access road heading south on IH35. There is a sign on the frontage road but the location itself is tucked away facing away from the highway. I loved this place. I was in pflugerville taking care of some business and was dying of hunger. I've been wanting to eat some samosas ever since I saw them at a local deli. The ones I had before were just awful. I wanted something more authentic. This place was definitely the right choice! So many different new foods too choose from and I didn't know what to pick so I went with the samosas that I've been wanting. I also got the mango drink (forgot what it's called). I always expect going into places like this to be charged out the ass because it's specialty food (I guess it's a New York thing), but the price was great especially for everything the wife and I got. Good food, service with a smile, and a clean establishment. Rare to find these three come together these days. We tried the dosa, Dahi puri, and the paneer sandwich. The first two were just the right blend of spicy and salty. The Dahi puri was perfectly sweet. The puris could have been fresher/crunchier, but we liked them enough to finish our plate. The Dosa was good, but potatoes in the dosa were undercooked (hard) at different points, so we ended up eating dosa with sambar and leaving the potatoes. My husband thought the paneer sandwich was okay but nothing that made his tastebuds want to jump in for every bite.
