From the moment we sat down at the new Boca, we knew we were in for an experience. We had a "wait team" of 3 people taking care of us and the way that our head server greeted us and explained the menu, you would have thought he was the owner (but his name was Barry, not David) because of this knowledgeable attention. Having indicated it was my birthday on our Open Table reservation, we were both brought a glass of prosecco almost right away with a 'happy birthday'--nice touch! The service was really exceptional--everything you would expect (constantly full water glasses and wine--discreetly stored on ice elsewhere--topped off regularly as well) but without the overly formal or stuffy atmosphere of other places with this caliber of service. I wanted to try a lot of different things so took advantage of the smaller 'tasting' portions. My appetizer was the beet and goat cheese 'mezzaluna' salad--incredible! The beet was pickled and shaved thin and folded over a generous dab of chevre like a piece of pasta and these were all arranged around a small bed of mixed greens with some hazelnuts sprinkled around for good measure. I can't say I'm the biggest beet fan in the world, but it sounded too intriguing not to try and boy, I'm glad I did. My next dish was the English pea ravioli (tasting portion). The pea puree was bright and fresh, in contrast with the rich, buttery, lemony sauce the ravioli were sitting in and the pasta literally dissolved in your mouth. There were also tasty chunks of lobster, but those were almost superfluous. That was followed by a tasting portion of the Cod Almondine: very nicely prepared with another unctuous buttery sauce. My husband got the hamachi crudo for an appetizer (bright, fresh) and the beef wellington for his entree, which he loved. We shared a the 'warm chocolate fondant' cake with peanut brittle ice cream for dessert. The cake was a very typical molten chocolate cake--tasty, but honestly nothing special. The ice cream was delicious though and a great complement to the chocolate. The wine list was extensive, but confusingly organized. Lots of pricey bottles, but a good number called out on the $30-60 pages. First we went with a recommended bottle and it tasted like apple cider vinegar and honey to me--didn't like it at all--they graciously insisted that we send it back and we chose a Jovin Pinot Gris that was light and refreshing, perfect for summer (and relatively inexpensive at $30/bottle). The interior of the restaurant was less formal than I initially expected, but I think they did an amazing job. I liked the contrast of the natural-feeling wood with the white tablecloths and massive crystal chandelier. Bathrooms are on the second level and are individual, unisex rooms with charming decor of their own. My top recos? Book early, take advantage of tasting portions, and definitely order the Beet & Goat Cheese salad and English Pea ravioli. read more

Wow Dining in Cincinnati has changed for the better and we can thank Chef David Faulk and his team for that. I was blown away by the new Boca and it is now my favorite restaurant. My mom and I came here for my annual birthday dinner expecting the best and we were amazed. Our server was Ben Smith and I highly recommend asking for him as he was very professional the entire time and made great suggestions. We sat down and Ben greeted us with a glass of Prosecco since I indicated it was my birthday and he wished me a Happy Birthday. My mom is vegetarian and they have an entire menu for vegetarian's which is a great touch. Ben brought over the Chef for a gift from the kitchen it was a tasting portion of the beet and goat cheese mezzulana and was a great way to start off the night. Onto the apps I ordered the Hamachi Crudo with grapefruit and ponzu and it was delicious and perfect portion. My mom had the grilled romaine with garlic emulsion dressing and raved about it. Next came the Blue Oven bread with the best butter in the US- 5 Star butter, they have a story behind it- just ask. I also ordered the Pommes Souffle since that was a signature Maisonette dish and it was served with sauce Bearnaise and perfect crispness. Our next course was the brussel sprout dish which we split and it was very very good and the food runner joked that more kids would eat brussel sprouts if they were prepared like this and we agreed. My mom and I also split a bottle of Red from Italy that Ben suggested and it went great with our dinners and was very reasonable priced at 55 dollars. Onto the main course- I ordered the Beef Wellington and Ben suggested cooking it medium rare and I agreed and it came out as from my picture a perfect Medium rare. The truffle sauce was poured table side and was a very nice touch and I was so glad I had extra bread there to soak up all the sauce. I think the wellington just needed a tad more salt. My mom ordered the tasting portion of bitter green ravioli and loved it. For dessert I ordered the Poached Pear Financier as Ben suggested it and wow was he right, this was the best dessert I have had in Cincinnati. The picture I posted does no justice for this dessert. Ben also put in a candle and sang a little Happy Birthday and we found out he won a Grammy and it showed. It was great sitting on the first floor as we saw all the action of an open kitchen including watching David Faulk help some of the cooks with cooking and plating. The bathrooms upstairs were really neat and they suggested we check each one of them out along with the private dining rooms. Boca was quite good, solid 4 star option. Started with the pommes frites souffles. Honestly, this was probably the worst part of the meal. They're just inflated french fries. Very oily as well, not a ton of flavor. The bearnaise at least provided a bit of flavor but I would have to say do not get the pommes frites souffles. It's also really cheap that they charge $2 for bread. Especially when the bread is very average, nothing special. I do love that just about every entree can be ordered as a tasting portion and a full entree portion. It allowed me to get the tasting portion of the cacio e pepe risotto and split the pork loin. The pork loin was great, very well cooked and full of flavor. Also loved the peas, bacon, and gastrique under the pork loin. Not a ton of bacon but the flavor of the gastrique was great. Also, really liked the risotto apart from one thing: foam. I don't get this new food fad. Foam's always terrible. adds nothing and just looks distracting. It detracts from every dish it's on. Although is was a small menu, we loved the food. The Gnocci was probably the best I had ever had. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was great for a date, nice and intimate. The building itself is very chic rustic, with original exposed wood and brick. Of course its downtown and parking is impossible, so I recommend the valet ($8). read more

My party ordered the grilled romaine salad and brussels spouts for starters. Both were delicious. I especially enjoyed the grilled flavor of the romaine. For dinner we had Filet Boca and Amish chicken. Again both were delicious and expertly prepared. For dessert we tried the poached pear financier, the mascarpone cheesecake, and Crème brûlée, which was brought out with a candle as compliments of the chef for my mother on her birthday. Boca is one of the upscale restaurants in the downtown area that I really really enjoy! We stopped by Boca for their holiday lunch accidentally. I was hanging out with my husband and dad-in-law the day before Christmas Eve. We were finding a restaurant nearby and here we were---Boca! When we entered the restaurant, I was immediately in love with the elegant dining ambience of this restaurant. There are two dining rooms in Boca, on the first floor and the second floor. We were brought to the second floor. Beautiful beautiful place! We were given the holiday lunch menu. (I heard that they only serve dinner during the regular season.) My husband ordered Boca Burger, which is $25. Wow! It must be a damn good burger to be $25! My dad in law and I ordered miso-glazed salmon, which is $27. The price at this restaurant is definitely high. After trying their food, we were happy that we had lunch there! Their burger is big and is definitely well-prepared. There was not a lot of extra fixings or sauce that would make a burger messy and too busy. It just has a simple thick medium-rare burger patty with cognac tomato aioli, fresh lettuces, tomato, and burger buns. It looks simple yet it tastes super delicious! The burger comes with homemade fried thin potato bread. Yum yum yum!! A classic American dish with an elegant twist! My miso-glaze salmon is just phenomenal! When our server asked me how I wanted my salmon to be prepared, I said medium. And yes, my salmon came out to be exactly what I wanted--slightly raw, sweet, flaky, and juicy! This salmon is one of the best salmon I have ever had in restaurants!! The salmon just melted in my mouth!! The salmon comes with an interesting slaw---quinoa and cabbage slaw! Very refreshing--the savory of the miso-glazed salmon and the fresh slaw. It is a nice combination! We also ordered some bread before our entrees. Very nice sour dough bread with interesting spiced crust. I have never been a bread person, but this bread I can eat a lot! :) And the dessert!!! Chocolate moose and Creme brûlée! Made reservations for my husband's birthday and the next day felt full of regret. Looking at the menu, everything seemed overpriced for the portion size and I just couldn't believe it'd be worth it. The soufflé was amazing and knowing the amount of work that goes into making these, it was definitely worth the price. Next were our entrees. I appreciate they have a vegetarian menu. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and my husband ordered the sole with an additional cocktail. I loved my dish! Slightly rich which made me savor every bite. The sole was good, perhaps a little over-seasoned with lemon, but definitely still good. We rounded out our dinner with the lemon verbena dessert and two espressos. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while now and I happy to say that Boca is my new favorite restaurant; it's definitely on the expensive side but worth every cent. The arpège salad was delicious with a fabulous vinaigrette and the perfect amount of walnuts. The bolognese is by far the best in Cincinnati and probably all of Ohio. I normally skip desert but I decided to get the candy bar 3.0 when I went. I'm so happy I did It was very sweet but delicious and I'll never pass down desert here. The service is excellent and everyone is extremely friendly. The host was quite nice. We showed up at dinner time on a Friday night, just kind of hoping there wouldn't be a long wait and we lucked out. A reservation had just canceled. We were seated within minutes and instantly treated to Boca's top-notch service. Waiters and waitresses alike were flying around taking orders, filling water, replacing and straightening silverware after every dish, refolding napkins and resolving any potential issues they came across. Here I must point out that the menus are inexplicably made from the flaccid fruity innards of a fig newton. That is to say the texture was weird. Menu aside, my date and I opened with some cocktails. The Radiant Pear was exquisite, the Samuel Clemens a strong slow burn of rhubarb, huckleberry, and gin. On to our meals. We were informed that the menu was intended in three parts: small plates, pasta and risotto, and the big heavies for the finish. Our small plates consisted of some delicious bread adorned with anise seed and the Scallop and Brussels Sprouts - a house specialty. The bread was good, but maybe not so good that it garners an up-charge of any sort, but this is a theme at fancy-like places such as Boca. The scallop and Brussels sprouts was presented as a house specialty, but I found it overwhelmingly salty. Dining with a vegetarian we opted to double down on pasta and risotto and forego the big finish, as there were not any vegetarian options available - another "hallmark" of the fancy restaurant. This may have been a bit of a mistake. The pasta and risotto dishes were all very cream-heavy and back-to-back-to-back along with the scallop and sprouts, it was all a little too much truffle and decadence. The Onion and Almond Cappellacci was a wonderful treat with an interesting balance between the citrus in the lemon and the toasted crunch of almond. Gnocchi con Fonduta seemed to be a miss following the Cappellacci. The fondue and truffle overpowers the dish with sour and the gnocchi itself though crisp, was not as enjoyable as it is at other locations in the city. Throughout the dish was one note and one texture and was just kind of blah. This was followed by the Roasted Butternut Squash, which was a delightful mixture of soft and stiff textures. The Squash and Hazelnut a nice blend of tastes. However, after eating these I was just dying for a solid vegetable, like a stick of celery or something from another food group. We left no room for meats and moved straight to dessert to cap the night. The Buckeye Candy Bar was quite the treat perfectly mashing peanut butter and chocolate. The Creme Brulee was not the best I have had, but is never bad. I think the addition of more Creme didn't exactly help it make its case. Despite the highlights, Boca was all just too much dairy, too much cream, too much truffle and too rich, both in taste and price. Drinks start in the double digits, scallop and brussels sprouts were a $24 appetizer, and of course we skipped the meats, because I wanted to be a little more veggie friendly, wasn't hungry by this point, and as they would have added another $100.00 to our meal. I should mention, because this is a fancy place, all the plates are really small, or should I say, the plates are huge and the food is small. Specials were also available for over $50.00. Add in an up-charge for the bread and you will be spending $100-300 on the night. I'm just not certain I live in the world where any food over $50.00 is routinely reasonable, and it should probably be the best damn food I've ever had. I'm glad I tried it, but the food at Boca just doesn't fit that descriptor, which is what earns them the middle-of-the-road rating. read more

We went here for a friend's birthday dinner. They had reserved a private room upstairs for the group. The room itself was private, intimate, and very well decorated. The service was great and we enjoyed the ambiance of this place. What I greatly appreciated about this restaurant, is that they offer a separate menu with vegetarian options on there. Most times, when a restaurant has vegetarian options, they have a minimal number of options. They had more than a handful and everything sounded absolutely delicious. I got the brussel sprouts for my appetizer and the risotto for my dinner option. I skipped dessert because I was too full. My friend got the Corn Cappellacci, which was also sooo delicious. I absolutely enjoyed everything I tried and have been craving the risotto since! The portions are relatively small, so each individual should probably order 2-3 options for themselves. Situated in the former Maisonette (longest running Mobil 5-star restaurant in the US, and by such a long shot that #2 was sucking Maisonette's exhaust fumes), me thinks the ghosts of Maisonette have inspired this excellent restaurant (recently moved from Oakley into downtown Cincinnati), to even greater heights. Short rib presentation (decadent cubes of beef over creamy mash potato purée) was nothing short of a Bon Appetit front cover glam shot. Taste was identical. Could go on but no point. We also shared a beet and goat cheese salad that was a presentation masterpiece: chèvre was wrapped inside thinly sliced folded red beet "tacos", over greens; just ridiculous art for mouth and eyes... I'm sure if I eat here 10 times it will be 5 stars 9 of 10 times. This has to rank in top 3 restaurants in Cincinnati for haute cuisine. Special food, ambiance, and presentation. Just go here for your special occasion; it's expensive and it's worth the splurge. This place is worth it. I had a great experience the first night for dinner, that i had to stop by again the next night for a taste of a few dishes after my dinner at Sotto. We sat at the bar and Annie happily greeted us. She set us up for a great experience from the start. She also recommended an amazing, unique, red wine that she liked. It was perfect! I would trust her guidance on food choices as well. We had a variety of dishes and all were excellent in taste, presentation, seasoning, and thoughtfulness. The timing of the dishes and the pace of the meal was just right. You cant go wrong on what you order here but i would definitely recommend trying a variety of appetizers and sides. The space is beautiful and you can see the attention to detail everywhere you look. Spend sometime going upstairs and looking down to the first floor - that chandelier is one of a kind. And the bathrooms!!! So well designed - each one has a unique theme. So thoughtful. And the bar.... more beautiful design. I don't even know where to start....we were looking for a romantic spot with a great atmosphere, and we were beyond impressed. Everything from the hostess to hearing and seeing the chef and kitchen staff working in the background was amazing. We never caught our waitress name but her husband also works there behind the bar and she was very attentive and excellent compliment to our experience. The lobster pasta dish she recommended melted in your mouth and we could have ate a few more, and the beef Wellington was out of this world. A must-visit for any visitor. Boca is NY-style fine dining with Cincinnati prices. We had dinner on a Wednesday and it was packed with customers. The service was fantastic. We were seated right away. Our server was very knowledgeable about the dishes and able to answer my unusual questions about the dishes in a casual and prompt manner. She was really trying to ensure we had a good time. She was also very attentive although I'm sure she was maintaining numerous other tables. The menu was also fantastic. Each dish was clearly well-designed. I was tempted to order many more dishes than we did, just so I could sample a little from each. The Grilled Romaine Appetizer was an interesting mix of warm and cool ingredients. The Beat and Goat Cheese Appetizer was delicious, different, and well-balanced. The Pot Roast was amazing. Its bed of mashed potatoes were perfectly seasoned and the foie gras atop was well-prepared. The interior was amazing. Everything is elegant without being snobbish. The entire feel was of subtle elegance. Gorgeous restaurant decor for the holidays. I loved how open it is and you can see the open kitchen. We had: 1. Tamarin Bolognese con Prosciutto: it's handmade pasta with meat and tomato rage. Tasted fresh with natural ingredients and flavor was perfect. I would recommend it. 2. Duet of Pekin Duck: presentation was very pretty. Duck was perfectly cooked with a side of sweet potato and wild huckleberry sauce. 3. Icelandic cod: this was my fav fav dish! Cod fish was cooked crispy on the skin. Well flavored and texture was great. For dessert we tried Buckeye Candy Bar ($10). It's basically a bar with brownie, peanut nougat topped with peanut butter gelato. They have apparently used the Pandemic downtime to re-emerge at Renaissance level!...Phenomenal creative dishes each with the freshest ingredients. Farm to table quality. Exceptional food. Every dish consistent and perfectly presented. Impeccable reception and service. Atmosphere beautiful. I travel extensively both nationally and internationally. My wife and I walked in to Boca on a whim while were traveling with our young daughter to Cincinnati for the first time. The hostess kindly accommodated us. The atmosphere is incredible, super cozy. The cocktails and food were excellent. Really enjoyed the chicken. A gentleman that worked there, maybe a manager, stopped by and we asked him what the story was on the Restaraunt. He sat down and chatted with us for 10 minutes like an old friend. Then afterward he surprised us with tickets to the Cincinnati zoo that he bought online for us while we were dining. Excellent food & service! Great ambiance for all types of occasions! The atmosphere allows for formal wear and casual wear. Love how you can get half plates and full plates for most of the options! Service was excellent and extremely helpful for first timers. My advice, go with the recommendations! My favorite dish was is gnocchi! Never would I have ordered this potato dish if it wasn't for Jason's (our server) recommendation! The potatoes melt your mouth and the sauce is a creamy perfection! The bay cod was fantastic! It was mild and flaky just as cod should be! The tamarind sauce was creamy with a hint of sweetness and tartness that went really well with it. An Excellent alternative to the usual lemon butter or wine sauce! Pomme soufflé is probably the best potato chips I've ever had. So fluffy and airy with the perfect amount of crisp to balance out the texture! The Berdnaise sauce added a wonderful kick while giving a mellow mouthfeel to balance out the dryness. Seafood risotto was good but nothing special. Boca filet was decent. The sauce was better than the steak. I wouldn't recommend this just because you can get a way better steak for the same price at a steakhouse. The panna cotta with pineapple sauce was very good as well. The panna cotta has a smooth and creamy texture with an extremely mild flavor. It was my first time having panna cotta so it's the best panna cotta I've had yet! Incredible service and the food was amazing! We decided to look for a top notch Italian restaurant and Boca fits the bill for that.

My husband and I had our post-elopement celebration at Boca and it was far beyond our expectations. I am still getting rave reviews and mentions from friends and family about how incredible the service and the food was. I can't even express how amazing their event coordinator, Tayler, was and how perfectly our night went because of her. I could not recommend Boca more. We decided each year we'll celebrate our anniversary with a meal at Boca - already looking forward to it! read more

An absolutely stunning experience from start to finish! My husband and I had the rare occasion (last minute) for a date night. We have been wanting to try BOCA for sometime, but did not have reservations. When walked in, we are greeted in he most sincere and welcoming way! They said they were in luck & had a spot for us even though we had no reservation. They took us back to a cozy intimate nook. I felt like royalty! The experience only continued its magnificence throughout our dining experience, from cocktails, to starter and main course. As I stated in the description of one of my photos, the risotto was the most amazing I had EVER had! I get goosebumps even as I'm typing about it! Lastly, we truly felt they were happy to see us and have us dining in the restaurant. I've been to Boca a few times and overall I have been disappointed. Atmosphere is great. Very high class restaurant with incredibly unique furnishings and light fixtures etc. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The service was also great every time I went. However, I have mixed reviews on the food. Although it was definitely good, it certainly wasn't great (Sotto is way better). What really was the deal breaker for me is that the portions are SO SMALL and the prices are extremely high. We ordered a tortellini once and got 4 teeny tiny pieces of pasta..... for over $20. Also, I got one of their drinks and it was absolutely horrible. Would go back for a wine at the bar but that's about it - would prefer Sotto any day. read more

Behind that big red door is an experience you won't forget. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was outstanding. Jason was so great with his recommendations, and he really went out of his way to take care of us. We ordered a plethora of dishes including oysters, leeks, himachi, and the Beef Wellington. The chef was not happy with the Wellington, so we were treated to a few dishes on the house before being served our redone Wellington! To our surprise, we were not even charged for the Wellington. It was the highlight of our trip to Cincinnati, and we will never forget it. read more
