My favorites: Wood Grilled Octopus, Crispy Falafel, Bouillabaisse. Love the Moroccan Mint Tea as well! Service: 4.7/5 Very friendly! They course out your plates for you which I always love. They were able to accommodate my pescatarian diet (I.e., meats on the side to give to others at the table). On a less busy night, they offered a free toast for my birthday. I've been for other celebratory dinners here on busier nights where that hasn't happened, so it was a lovely surprise! Ambiance: 4/5 A little busy and can get loud on the weekends with table chatter, cutlery clinks, and the brick walls echoing noise around. Tables are also close together, so you can definitely hear the conversation next to you. The decor is pleasant and the lighting is soft and romantic enough that it is still a perfect date night spot! Our first time at this restaurant. It has a relaxed vibe. Two rooms with bar and some tables on one side and just tables with a few u-shaped booths on the other. I would recommend getting reservations. Our server was very friendly and attentive. He was also knowledgable about the food and drinks. He brought me a sample of a wine without me requesting it. He made a special request for a non-sweet Turkish coffee. The menu has about 15 sharable plates on it with about 3 deserts. They don't serve coffee. Only Turkish coffee. Not far from Downtown on the outskirts of the Over-the-Rhine Neighborhood, Abigail Street is a trendy tapas style Mediterranean restaurant. The vibe is comfy dim lit sexy and fun and a great place to be seen with friends. They offer a variety of dishes and recommend it be eaten family style, ie you order a bunch of dishes and share. Tapas style like that is fun to me and the service here is thoughtful, friendly, reliable and sincere. A group of 4 of us ordered around 6 dishes we shared which included: 1. Corn Gnocci dish, not bad sort of like a mesh between Italian and Southern US cuisine (3.5/5) 2. Broccoli seasoned with spices (kind of like cardomam or cinnamon or even nutmeg flavors. Didn't really care for it as it was too dried up and had a side or either mayo or perhaps aioli (did not try it). 3. Short Rib with Butter Lettuce wrap. Not bad but I felt it was too sweet (3.5/5) 4. Bacon wrapped dates with almonds and some kind of a red sauce. Not bad. Didn't wow me as I personally prefer more savory flavor profiles so I found this too heavy and sweet again (2.5/5) 5. Some kind of Mediterranean style salad with lots of cucumber, onions, tomatoes, radishes, maybe orange bell pepper(?) doused in lemon juice and Za'atar (3/5). The flavor was too sour from the lemons but my friends were ooh-ing and aah-ing over it as if it was the bet thing they ever ate in their lives. Love lemon and zaatar but not how it was used here;(3/5) 6. Another salad dish with lots of zaatar, chick peas and lettuce. (2.5/5). 7. Backlava that looked intriguing but was insanely buttery though tasted ok fresh out of the oven (2.75/5). These were the dishes I recall eating (see photo). While I'd give this a 2.5/5, because my friends loved it and the vibe was fun and the service very good, I'll bump this up to a 3/5. I love Mediterranean style food but would rather eat a Greek or Lebanese style restaurant where the ingredients are managed better. Here, the flavors were t really combined that well and things were either too sweet, too dry, too tangy, too sour or too zaatar-ish. That said, you may enjoy this if you're naive enough and my friends talked favorably of this place as if it was the single greatest culinary experience of their lifetimes. Our must-orders include: The bread w/ whipped ricotta and honey, the tuna tartare and the broccolini. I will never go and not order those three if they are available! They are 10/10 every single time! I tried the tuna tartare at the Layers event at CMC and now I am addicted. The bread and ricotta could be my breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert even, it's just so good! The broccolini is served with this sauce that is phenomenal, it's a great bite! This time we also tried the short rib and the scallops. Travis said the scallops are his favorite dish and I can totally see why, I am not typically a huge scallop fan but that was the best scallop I have ever had. The short rib is delicious, and typically eaten as a lettuce wrap, that was probably my husband's favorite. I loved the marinade on it! Seriously, there is no such thing as a bad bite here!! Abigail Street is one of my two favorite spots in Over the Rhine downtown Cincinatti. I've walked by the restaurant several times without knowing what the restaurant was at a glance given their cheeky signage is three pictograms long. It stopped me in my foot tracks and had to look them up. After asking a local of neighborhood favorites, I'm glad I checked them out. As this place does get full over the weekends, do make a reservation to ensure you be seated in the room with painted white walls to avoid the kitchen smoke. It's a more comfortable and elevated seating than the other bar room. Their wood grilled octopus is hands down the most delicious dish I've had in my lifetime and will eat it every day. I've tried octopus prepared in so many ways, and Abigail Street's rendition is the most mind blowing comforting delicious combination of flavors I could beg for. Please do yourself a favor and try it! You won't be disappointed. Another solid appetizer to try is their Merguez stuffed dates. I would skip the short ribs though. read more

The food was tapas style and was brought out slowly dish by dish which truly enabled you to savor each and every one. The ricotta & honey dish was so good - It tasted like dessert! The ratio of bread to dip was off. I wished there was more bread that came with it. The stuffed dates were jaw dropping and the potato gnocchi was amazing as well. Huge variety of flavors that worked beautifully together. I got a glass of bodegas muga and my jaw dropped after the first sip! Definitely try their wine! Our server was amazing and attentive. I had noted we were celebrating a birthday, but nothing was acknowledged, which was surprising for one of Cincinnati's nicer dining spots. That said, the food was excellent. We ordered the wood-grilled octopus, charcoal-grilled short rib, and the peach and tomato with buffalo cheese. Everything was cooked perfectly; the octopus and short rib were tender and flavorful, while the peach and tomato dish was refreshing and balanced out the heavier meats. Excellent food, very good service and lovely ambiance. The tapas are on the large side so 1-1.5 tapas per person can suffice. I loved the mussels -- great deep flavors. The shrimp was wonderful too -- but the best menu item in my opinion was the short rib. Unbelievably tender and the sauce was to die for. I really enjoyed the beets as well. for dessert we shared the baklava. They make it in house and it shows that it was absolutely delicious. The drinks were pretty good as well. Had a wonderful dinner at Abigail Street this evening. We got here just before 5pm since we don't have a reservation. We were a party of 4 + a toddler and it was hard to have late dinner. Thankfully they can seat us. The recommendation of 2 dishes per person was good. We were so full, there was no room for dessert. They can also accommodate anyone with shellfish allergy. They will have the same menu with items striked through or indicate if there are cross contaminations. All the dishes were delicious. The opening dish of peach, tomato and mozzarella salad was great. The next salad dish was lemony so if you are not a fan of sour, watch out. If you like appreciate, it is a nice palate opening dish. My favorites for the evening are the bread with hummus, the short ribs and started scallops. I would have included the grilled octopus but it was very spicy for me. Love the looks and feel of Abigails. A little noisy because of the openness and high ceilings but we had no issue having a conversation. We did have a reservation and I would highly recommend as we saw them turn people away at the door as they were very busy. This is not a get in and out place, you order everything at once and the meal is coursed out. We ordered 4 menu items and then later dessert and coffee along with a couple cocktails. These plates are meant to be shared. First they brought out the off-menu item of charred pea pods and shoots along with the well-provisioned hummus and pita bread. They were well seasoned and both interesting and I would certainly order again. The hummus had a castelvetrano olive salad in the center of it and was super smooth along with olive oil. The pita was seasoned nicely and was soft and pillows. The charred peas were amazing like they were picked fresh from our garden and then slightly blistered and again well seasoned. The courses were perfectly timed, kudos to our waitress. Next we had the bouillabaisse, it had shrimp, mussels, halibut, fingerling potatoes, all in a creamy saffron broth topped with a couple pieces of toasted bread with a rouille sauce on it. I could have tipped that bowl up and slurped down that broth! This was delicious. Next up was lamb spaghetti. The lamb was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and the hand-cut noodles were nicely thick but still spaghetti noodles. We also got the egg ($2) added and would do that again for the creamiest it added. Next up dessert. Yes, we were stuffed but could not pass on the pistachio baklava. I also ordered Turkish coffee. Loved the warm pistachio filling. The Turkish coffee was reminiscent of a smooth rich chocolate and I loved it as well. Cannot say enough good things just go give it a try! read more

One of the best restaurants I have ever been to in the whole country, and that's no exaggeration! The food here is so good, that a couple of dishes I specifically mentioned to my waiter that they were the best I have had anywhere in the United States. I cannot recommend this place enough. Period. I started with the roasted beets and lebna, and that was easily the best beet salad I have had anywhere. First, the amount of beets, both red and golden, were abundant, and the earthy flavor is kept, which I believe should be the case. The toasted hazelnuts were very appropriate as the flavor of toasting, along with the crunchiness of hazelnut, offered both flavor and texture elevation. Then, the baby kale honestly tasted like spinach, which was such a pleasant surprise because kale itself doesn't taste good, but spinach tastes much better, and the baby kale in this dish offered a very enjoyable experience! Then of course, the lebna was very effective at reducing, but not eliminating, the earthy flavor that beets are supposed to have. The potato gnocchi was a pleasant surprise because I did not expect it to have corn curry puree, and it worked so well! With the mushrooms and sweet corn, the gnocchi had so many layers of flavors that it became a whole new flavor itself, and the tastiness was even bigger than the sum of these flavors combined. My partner had the bouillabaisse and enjoyed it very much as well! I don't have any more to contribute for that dish. But I then ordered a wood grilled octopus, and man, it was out of this world. The octopus itself was juicy and succulent. Tasting it by itself was one flavor. Dipping it in the hummus and tomato, onion, and lemon mixture was another flavor. One could enjoy multiple flavor profiles with this one! But I actually would highly recommend eating the octopus by itself, and then mixing the shredded merguez sausage with all the other stuff in there, like chickpeas, tomatoes, onion, lemon, jalapeños, and hummus. The sausage bits themselves were juicy for sure, but one could get tired of the oiliness after a while, so combining everything would allow one to easily consume everything. If I had to nitpick, I would prefer the chickpeas to be in their original forms, and just lightly toasted, because I think fried chickpeas tasted less like chickpeas but became less distinguishable from other kinds of fried nuts. Maybe this is because I follow a pretty vegan diet at home and love chickpeas. Regardless, this dish was nothing short of amazing as is already! And dessert, pistachio baklava, the best baklava I have ever had. Before I picked it up, I could literally see the pistachio sweet mixture overflowing, which meant that it was freshly made, and honestly, that made all the difference, because it didn't taste dry or hard like how baklava would taste if placed for a long time. The freshness was what made it taste so good, and I would highly recommend it. After dinner, we just took the connector train to take a walk by the riverfront. I couldn't stop talking about how happy I was about the food. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I'd come back to Cincy just for this. Either way, highly recommend!! read more

We came here for dinner on a Friday night just after 6 PM without a reservation. We were able to grab a table outdoors with no wait. The outdoor area is lovely and we were able to enjoy our meal in the warmth of the sun as well as enjoy the liveliness of the surrounding establishments. Our server, Evan, came by shortly after we were seated and helpfully walked us through the menu and took our drink order. Evan gave us a few recommendations for dishes and how many we should order since it's tapas/shareable plates. We ordered the hummus which was silky smooth and came with arguably the most delicious pita I've had in my life (we ended up ordering a second pita because it was so good). Next came the cauliflower which had an awesome char and crispiness to it as well as a flavorful harissa. After this was the roasted beets and labneh which came with refreshingly light greens and hazelnuts covered in a brown butter vinaigrette. This was followed up with the bacon wrapped dates stuffed with merguez and were sat on a bed of tomato sauce with almonds. Finally, we were able to fit in a plate of the sweet potato gnocchi and the gambas al ajillo. The gnocchi were pillowy soft and sat in a lovely sauce consisting of dukkah, sweet potato puree, and mushrooms. The gambas al ajillo had lovely grilled shrimp cooked in a rich broth of black garlic and chili. This was served with crispy bread and all of the juices from the broth made a great dipping sauce for the bread. The music was loud but an eclectic mix of jazz and edm type stuff. The AC was chilly but with some alcohol or soup you'll warm up We ordered: Mussels - our favorite dish! Came with enough for 3 people as a shareable plate or appetizer. Make sure you ask for extra bread. The grilled smokiness on the bread makes it great on its own even. The sauces is out of this world! Octopus - it had a great smoky grilled flavor. The texture was like cooked tuna. I loved the chickpeas and dip on the side though. #2 dish. Lamb Ravioli - not what I expected but very tasty. #3 of the 3 dishes. I wasn't expecting the ravioli pieces to be split down the middle, half with the lamb and half with the polenta. I was told that it was a crime that I had not been to Abigail's St yet and now I can see why. The Mediterranean small plates establishment has a cozy, classy vibe with excellent and attentive service. The beet and labneh salad was tart, balanced, and nutty. The falafel was the best I've had and so crispy with potent notes of garlic, cumin, and mint. The shrimp was juicy with strong flavors and the curry and roasted corn gnocchi was fantastic! While everything was great, the falafel and gnocchi stole the show! We did not get the ricotta and broccoli despite them being heavily recommended to us due to it being the same price as all the other items and being much smaller and less substantial. From food to service, this place gets 5 stars. Came here for a reservation on a Thursday night and got our table right away. This is tapas/small plate style so we ordered 4 dishes for the two of us as well as 2 cocktails. They do a different hummus every day so we got their hummus of the day first. It was spectacular! It had a pimento chutney and came with a warm and fluffy pita that was also spot on! For the bigger dishes, we got the grilled short rib and lamb spaghetti. The short rib was tender and flavorful and came with bib lettuce to make little wraps. The lamb spaghetti was fantastic. The pasta is made in-house and the lamb was crispy and super yummy. Apparently the lamb dish is new and the kitchen is still working out the timing of it. As a result it took a little longer to come out than the rest of the dishes. We had no where to go and this was no problem, but the manager came out and apologized and comped our drinks - A+ service! We will definitely be back here to try the rest of the menu! read more

Three of us enjoyed 4 plates along with some wine. The dishes were a new salmon entrée that debuted on Saturday. The dish was our favorite. Fish was cooked to perfection and the accompanying greens atop were seasoned very well. We had the grilled octopus, lamb spaghetti and roasted beet dish. All four we would have again without hesitation. The wait staff was on their game. Any wait person that walked by our table and we had an empty dish, they grabbed it and went to the kitchen. I reserved leaving a review here after my first experience as it was very lack luster. I recently went for a second time and left feeling let down again. My first experience, the service was bad. We were stuffed in a corner and the server forgot about us in addition to ringing in our order. The service at my second experience was okay - it felt like the priority was getting the table turned over rather than providing a personable dining experience We ordered the Fattoush, Beets & Lebna, Octopus, and Short Rib. The Fattoush's concept provides a nice and refreshing dish; however, ours had WAY too much lemon and it completely over powered the dish making it quite bitter. The Beets & Lebna were excellent. A very well executed dish where the warm plate of beets, lebna, hazelnuts, and brown butter sauce provide a well balanced and delicious bite. The Octopus was okay. The octopus itself was overcooked and our least favorite part of the dish, but the sausage, crispy chickpeas, vegetables, and hummus saved it. For the Short Ribs, 3/5 of our Short Ribs were over cooked and dry - making this dish unpleasant to eat. The two pieces that were not over cooked were tender and elevated by the spices/sauce it was cooked with. Overall, I would not go out of my way to come to Abigail Street. But, if I needed a reservation and it was the only one available, I would not be upset. read more

We tried octopus, steak, hummus, bouillabaisse, broccoli, and something else so we got a pretty good sampling. I think I would recommend this place more as a casual drinks and some snacks with friends kind-of-place instead of a full-blown meal.
