Everything at Fillo was SO GOOD! I'm sad we didn't learn until this place until now--it has apparently been open for years! Our server was very kind, and he explained that the chefs are the owners, and they are in the kitchen every single night. This is their passion project, focusing on super fresh ingredients, and you can absolutely tell. We started with the bread service, which was delicious. It was covered in seeds and spices, giving it an extra punch of flavor. We then moved on to the cheese saganaki and fried feta, which was my favorite bite of the night! For mains, we got both branzinos. The filet came on a bed of rice and spinach flavored with spices. The filet was perfectly crispy. The whole branzino was also delicious, but just watch out for bones! We were pleasantly stuffed so we didn't try dessert this time, but we'll be back soon! read more

Great spot for our one night in Cincinnati. As a Greek, I always like to try the cuisine in other cities. Fillo did not disappoint. We had coffee, the chef made my boyfriend a Greek coffee which he loved. The service is really professional and the whole vibe is fresmodern Greek but still gives that home cooked feel. We had the grilled calamari squid, prasini salad, the Aegean salmon bake and moussaka. The prasini was a hit; so delicious and fresh. The lemon and honey vinaigrette with figs were such a good touch. The moussaka was incredibly comforting, delicious and flavorful. It was a big portion and came with a side salad that was a perfect balance for $30. The squid was delicious and perfectly cooked as well. The salmon was good, cast iron baked over tomatoes capers onions and olives but slightly overcooked for my liking and thought it needed something more with it for $35. It was a good amount of fish with two small fillets though. Prices were a little high and menu a lot smaller compared to some Greek places but I get they're more upscale. I never hear people talking about Phillo for dinner... and now I'm not sure why! We had been when it was more of a bakery & had lunch- it was delicious! On a whim we decided to stop by and grab dinner. And IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! The food here is phenomenal! Fresh, jam packed with flavor, and plated beautifully. The staff were friendly, the owners came out and checked on us a few times. One small flag, the service was a tad slow. It seemed there were some delays in the kitchen. One of the best meals I've ever had. The food, atmosphere, service, decor - it was all perfect for a Sunday dinner. We came into town to visit my niece and went with a group of five (family and friends). We tried a little bit of everything - fried feta, trio of dips, Greek potatoes, souvlaki, branzino, salmon, lamb chops and shrimp couscous. All absolutely outstanding. We finished off with their baklava - delicious! And a different spin on traditional baklava with a cheesecake frosting (?) on top - so good. Our server was the sweetest and on top of everything during the entire visit. He was knowledgeable about the menu and it was obvious he loves the restaurant and the people he works for. If you are looking for an upscale Mediterreanean dining experience, look no further. We sat at the bar for dinner and the entire meal was delicious. I started with the Persephone cocktail-a nice blend of sweet and herby. They have you order everything-appetizer, small plates, entrees-at the same time. We opted to share the olives medley, fried feta, Pantzaria with Skordalia: Roasted beets served over garlic spread, roasted walnuts, fresh herbs, and I had the prasini salata for my main. The fried feta has a spicy honey glaze on it that I could dip anything and everything in. The beets were out of this world good, and the salad is a delicious. The green and kalmata olives in the medley were fantastic, but there was a wrinkled olive that had an aftertaste that was just...odd. Almost like pungent vanilla. Neither my date nor I were a fan and unfortunately, the medley was full of those olives. I also got a glass of their rose wine at the recommendation of our server. My half of the bill came to 60 dollars, so this is definitely a special occasion place. They miss a star because there are no vegetarian main entrees at all. The meditteranean was unique and yet familiar, fresh ingredients with zesty twists (spanikopita looking like a French pastry sitting atop a type of Greek yoghurt and honey??) The service was great, especially seeing as we were again underdressed and towing two children under three (one of which was screaming "HIYA" and waving with frantic zeal at everyone in the restaurant). This was my first time in Cincinnati and I wasn't expecting to find authentic Greek food. Well, I was pleasantly surprised when we tried Fillo! The service was excellent and atmosphere was very relaxing and cozy. I just knew that they had bread that would change our lives and indeed I was right! It came out so warm and crunchy on the crust yet soft in the middle! It was accompanied with a nice olive oil and butter dip. What an experience! I will say I was nervous about their cancelation policy that includes a $20 charge per person if reservations are canceled less than 24 hours before the reservation. We had reservations for six, with one canceling due to illness the day of. I called ahead to change the reservation, but was still worried there could be a charge. There wasn't. My reason for including all that information is this... after having dinner on a Saturday (we were there at 4:30 when they opened), it was clear they do a massive business and need every seat available. We had a plan to check in during the week with a reminder and confirmation everyone was still on for dinner. The restaurant is beautiful and comfortably upscale. Our server Brynn, was outstanding. She was very cordial and friendly, as well as being well versed with the menu. She also split our bill five ways, spreading the food across all five bills and divvying up the drinks appropriately. The food... where do I start? I'll start by saying there are things on the menu we did not order that I still want to try. Guess we'll have to go back. Darn! What we did order was well.. a lot! Everything was fantastic. I'd say we started with the Trio of Spreads, but that's only because it came out first. My favorite was the Taramasalata (cured cod roe), which had just a slight fish flavor (it's not off-putting in any way). When we go again I will just order this. The Tzatziki was lovely and the Tirokafteri (spicy feta) was indeed spicy. It was tasty, but I focused on it the least. The grilled pitas that come with the spreads are a bit like Olive Garden's endless breadsticks. This is a huge plus and was greatly appreciated. Next was the Ntakos. Brynn told us to let it sit and allow the rusk to absorb the liquid and flavors. It was beautiful and delicious. That said, I won't order this next time. Turmeric Roasted Cauliflower - Roasted cauliflower seasoned with spices and turmeric w/ creamy tahini sauce. It was not spicy and the sauce was delightfully light and wonderful. I recommend it! The Manitaria Confit, aka mushrooms, were out of this world. So freakin' tasty! Yep, you should get these. We will get them again. The Pantzaria (roasted beets served with garlic dip) was outstanding! I'd order it again and you should too. The Bouyiourdi (spicy baked feta with peppers, tomatoes and onions) was spicy. It was good, but not my favorite. If you like things on the spicy side, go for it! Best bite - Char Grilled Xtapodi - grilled octopus. I get grilled octopus whenever I can. Fillo's grilled octopus is about the best I've had. So tender, and the EVOO, vinegar, oregano and capers are the perfect accompaniment. If I was only getting one thing, this would be it. The Kotopoulo Souvlaki was amazing. The chicken was tender and flavorful. With tomatoes, onions, fries, pita and dipping sauce, this is easily a full meal. The Moussaka was perfect. It looked beautiful and it was full of flavor. They had two desserts - Baklava and Ravani. The baklava was amazing! Just half of one of the three small pieces would have been enough. Wonderfully sweet and bursting with baklava syrup. The Ravani, topped with quince, was good but probably the least favorite of all the bites that evening. I also had a Baklava Negroni. That said, I asked if they could make it a Negroski, which is a Negroni made with vodka rather than gin. They accommodated my request with aplomb and it was delicious. Oh... the thing that makes it special is baklava syrup. It's not that I could taste it specifically, but Negronis can be a bit bitter. The Baklava "Negroski" was beautifully smooth. It wasn't bitter. She was just about to start calling people with reservations (so pretty much the rest of their clients that night) She also suggested we try some other nearby restaurants instead--laughable since it's pretty much impossible to eat in OTR without a reservation. They will take care of you here, local or not! This is a rare restaurant in downtown Cincinnati. The food is fresh and always on point, presented beautifully and with lots of flavor. They have inside and outside seating. Inside, the ambiance is light and minimalist. But let's talk about what you really come here for: the amazing food! I have been here twice now. Here are some of the dishes I recommend: Trio Plate - three heaping portions of shareable dips. They come with herby pita, but trust me, you'll need more! The typical dips are lucious eggplant based, spicy whipped feta, and creamy tzatziki. When I went most recently, they were out of the eggplant so it was replaced with taramasalata: cod roe made into a paste. I love fish for it's fishyness so this dip was phenomenal! My favorite among the dips. Char Grilled Octopus - This is a sliced octopus dish that comes with vinegary onions, peppers, capers, and olive oil. The Octopus itself has a wonderful smoky flavor from the grilling. The texture was light, not dry or rubbery at all. Grilled Calamari - This was a domestic catch of calamari, right off of Rhode Island apparently! The pieces came whole with slices in them. It was the texture to write home about though. The owner came out and told us about the two kinds of Calamari meat you can get. Most fried stuff is the tougher kind. Not this stuff though! It was only slightly chewy and very fragrant. Kotopoulo souvlaki - We have also ordered this several times. Honestly after all the apps, this dish comes home for leftovers. The chicken is always moist. There are a lot of fries! Persephone - This was my drink of choice. It reads like it might be soapy but it is very light and refreshing! Was really looking forward to trying Fillo modern Greek. This was my first time in Cincinnati and was so exited to try from reading the reviews. The interior was really nice and clean. I ordered a beer, chicken souvlaki and grilled octopus. After ordering I asked our server(Ariel) if there was also a lamb gyros because I thought had seen it on yelp but noticed it wasn't on the menu. To which she responded our chef does not make any changes or substitutions to the menu items which was said in the worst sassy tone I have ever heard in my life. She than gave us attitude explaining to us how they don't do any changes but also said she can ask the chef if she could make the other lamb chop item on the menu to a similar style as the chicken souvlaki we had just ordered. We kindly declined because that was not what we asked. The experience went so down hill from here with her attitude. No I don't want to make a change after you just gave us attitude about making changes. The next time she came back to our table she said sorry if I came off as brash. Obviously you know you messed up. Sorry I asked about an item posted on your yelp that was/is on the menu. My gf had to walk out crying because she was uncomfortable with our server and I had to take our food takeaway. Was not worth anywhere what we paid for too btw and here is what you get for $60.37. Wanted to try a new restaurant. Came across this place on OpenTable. Open table had this place at 2 dollar sign. But if you look at the menu it's more like a 3. The servers were extremely attentive and answered any questions we had about the menu. The food was good. The octopus was fresh but a little too salty for my taste. Might have been the capers they topped it with. But it was tender and cooked well The chicken skewer was juicy and not over done and cooked well. The flavor was a little bland. Especially being price at $26 I was expecting more. Moussaka dish was interesting, had a lot of all spice and it over powered the dish. The meat had good flavor and cooked well. But all we could taste was the all spice and it was hard to get rid of that taste. I also had a cocktail "Isabella" it was ok wasn't over powered with alcohol and had a good balance. Dessert we had the baklava and it didn't disappoint. Would recommend trying it if you haven't tried it before. Overall, the dishes were decently done and flavors were as expected and a few misses. But for the price range of this place I probably would not come back. Not sure if it's cause they might of imported some ingredients. But the chicken skewer dish was 26$ for fries and 1 skewer and the moussaka dish was $30 for a decent size portion and a side salad. I feel like it's over priced for what you get. Wonderful food and warm services! If you are looking for modern Greek food that is light yet delicious, you should give this restaurant a try. Located on Race Street, this restaurant is only steps away from the closest cable car stop. On street parking is limited on a narrow street. When I arrived, I was greeted warmly and seated right away. The waitress was very patient, and a good amount of time walked me through the menu and made recommendations. The serving of each dish is small, and so one hot dish and one cold dish are recommended for each person. For the entrees, I ordered the fried feta and the Aegean anchovies. The fried feta is delicious and one of the most innovative dishes I have had. Thin slices of feta cheese were wrapped in filo dough and fried. Honey and sesame seeds were poured on top before serving. The combination of crispy dough, semi melted cheese, and honey made this dish an absolute stand out for me! My second entree of Aegean anchovies was interesting and flavorful. I liked the combination of anchovies and tomatoes, but the bread was semi bitter when served. As for the services, my waitress was very helpful and friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant felt modern, bright, and airy. This will be an excellent restaurant for intimate gatherings among small groups of friends or date nights. My total for dinner was $40, which included two entrees and a dessert. Went to Fillo before Wednesday night's Cincinnati Reds game. Dinner was awesome we are already talking about going back. It was a diet killer to be sure but I would definitely order the Ravani cake again! It was a Greek semolina cake with a syrup that is basically made from honey and sugar and a little water and can be flavored with a couple things like a little lemon or a little cinnamon. I also do not eat eggplant as I have never liked it but finally a preparation that I did like. In the picture of the trio of spreads the one on the far left is the eggplant and I really liked it for a change, cannot stand babaganoush or fried eggplant it has always been too squishy for me. The name of that dip was Melitzanosalata and it is basically roasted or charred eggplant with garlic, onion, olive oil, lemon juice and parsley. The other two dips were a tzatziki and a feta dip that was spicy. The chef visited our table and he told us that those lamb chops were for picking up and eating with your hands and that's exactly what we did! We decided that the fried feta in syrup would be an excellent breakfast. The zucchini fritters were light and delicious not heavy at all even though they were fried. The Moussaka was also good. We definitely ordered too much and overindulged! As in the name the decor is modern but also comfy at the same time. So nice the chef came out to visit at the tables. Amy was our server, she did not miss a beat. We wanted to try some of the other things on the menu such as the octopus so we will definitely be heading back to the restaurant. I have wanted to try this restaurant for some time now. Been following the social media posts, reading articles in the local magazines & enjoyed reading the restaurants menu. I have been in Food & Beverage business for over 30 years and currently import International foods for a living ( including from Greece ). We had friends in from out of town this weekend and were showing them around. Cincinnati has a lot of really great restaurants so I was trying to find something unique and a restaurant that had gluten-free options. We had reservations at 7:30 arrived a few minutes early and were quickly seated at our table. Greeted by our waitress who was very pleasant. We were told upon seating that the kitchen was running a little bit behind but should catch up quickly. Our waitress then took our drink order and we sat there for about 15 minutes until we got our drinks. The waitress then came by and asked if we were ready to order and said that the Kitchen wants to have our entire order all at once and that the Kitchen likes to control the flow of the food coming out of the kitchen to us so we gave her an order for four different appetizers and bread service along with three orders of the Bronzino fish fillet and one order of the lamb chops . We waited for another 30 minutes before our appetizer started to slowly arrive one at a time, the appetizers are small so they were gone very quickly and we had flagged the waitress down and inquired about the last appetizer that we had not gotten (grilled calamari ) we were told that it should be coming soon and it takes a little longer to prepare five minutes later that appetizer showed up. At this point, we've been in the restaurant for about an hour. We were looking forward to getting our entrées. We ordered another drink and sat there talking at the table. Waited another 30 minutes for entrées to show up. Finally the Entrées arrived. We were very disappointed to say the least. The three plates of Bronzino fish fillet were put in front of us and there was a piece of fish about 6 ounces in the middle of the plate with a little bit of a green Verde sauce underneath it and that was it there were no vegetables there was no starch. One would assume that there was some sort of vegetable or starch that would come with the entrée at that price point. Especially since there were no side items listed on the menu that would normally signify that everything is à la carte and you would have to purchase in addition to the entree. My lamb chops were very good and cooked perfectly great flavor, but they did come with some potatoes and a couple pieces of thin asparagus for the price of $48. By the time we had received all of our food, it have been two hours. Everyone was left still very hungry as it took less than a minute to eat the small piece of fish. At this price point, we were very dissatisfied with the quantity of the food and the length of time that it took to get everyone served. Our waitress was very good. She apologize for the length of time that it was taking to get food out of the kitchen. As being someone that's been in the business for a very long time and knows the way that restaurants work. There is some major issues going on at this restaurant that needs to be addressed. The majority of the tables in the restaurant were in the same predicament. Very, very long wait time for food. I in all good consciousness would not recommend this restaurant as our total bill came to about $400 for the four of us and we were left hungry afterwards. read more
