We had a great family dinner at Pompilios last night. Our server was nice and patient with our kids. We started with risotto balls, which were delicious, fried perfection (in addition to the white bread with garlic butter, which our kids gobbled up!). Our boys had the side of meatballs, each ordering two but only getting through one because they were so big. I had the chicken parmigiana and it was excellent. It had a lot of mushrooms I wasn't expecting (I am sure it was on the menu but I didn't look). I love mushrooms so that was fine with me. We had just finished a Newport Gangster walking tour and were a block away and it was time for Lunch. We entered by a side door, which is the main door, and the bartender greeted us as we came in. Friendly and directed us to the hostess station, oddly, further inside. Once seated, turns out the bartender would be the one waiting on us. She was great! Friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, took our drink order, then came back fairly quickly with our drinks. We were ready to order and she took the order without writing any of it down. I know I'd have a problem with that. But she didn't miss a beat!! She stopped back at our table to check on us and my wife had a question about her drink. The young lady admitted not knowing the answer but said she would check with her manager. A bit later, she came back and had gotten an answer to our question. So, she followed through on her word! The food came out, nice and hot....and Very Large portions. I had the Meatball hoagie, and it consisted of three VERY large meatballs, a decent helping of tasty sauce and way too many French fries for one person!! I cut it in half and took the rest home (along with some fries). It was just as good reheated the next evening for dinner. One of our friends had the Colonel Pomp's cod , a huge fish sandwich, with fries. He said it was really good. My wife ordered the toasted ravioli dipper. It was an appetizer, but was enough to eat most of it, but still have a few to take home. Our other friend got the gluten free rigatoni. Again, large portion. And she said it was really good. We ended up finding street parking right outside the business. We were greeted immediately upon walking in and seated promptly. Our server was working a big party next to us but was attentive to our tables needs. Our food arrived, lobster Ravioli and penned with vodka sauce, both were sub-par and not what we expected after being recommended to try this place. The noodles did not taste fresh, vodka sauce wasn't flavorful/tastie and my meal seemed tobhave suce and cheese on it and then microwaved. The seafood Ravioli sauce was not tasty and again, the pasta tasted old. We ordered a cease salad and requested to share it and they brought us 2 plates with it already split for us. Lighting was dim. Can't remember if there was a TV since we sat all the way down in the back. Staff was friendly and constantly checked in on us. Our party of six went at 5:30 PM on Saturday. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Drink orders were taken within minutes. We ordered appetizers, eggplant, arancini, and calamari. Having lived in Cincinnati and eaten at Pompilios, while passing through we stopped for a late lunch on a Saturday. There was a party on the outdoor patio but the restaurant was not busy. The lunch menu is very limited. We ordered meatball hoagies. The size of the meal was large. The hoagie consisted of 4 large meatballs, cheese, and sauce on a toasted bun. They could have been more generous with the sauce. The french fries that accompanied the sandwich were outstanding. We couldn't finish our meal due to the size, even though we were hungry. It was an OK meal, it could have been better. Latter that evening I didn't feel well, my stomach was very upset. I can't 100% say it was due to lunch but that was my feeling. This is quickly becoming my favorite Italian restaurant in the Cincinnati area. Located right across the river in Covington, you can find this legit Italian restaurant tucked away among the historic East row Victorian homes. Not to mention, this is the Italian restaurant where the movie Rain Man was filmed. If you make your way into the bar area, you can see some old posters and paraphernalia. The food is great! If you're looking for a non-commercialized version of Italian food that feels like it has its roots literally in Italy, this is it. Bread is provided, but if you are hungry, upgrade to the garlic bread. Get a side of meatballs to chomp down on while you wait for your food--it's worth it!! You can't go wrong with Pompilios. Serving Newport and greater Cincinnati for almost 90 years, you may enter hungry, but you'll always exit fully sated. Located on an unassuming corner of Washington and E 6th in Newport, unless you get there earliish plan on a short wait. But trust me, it's worth the wait. They do take reservations if you're worried about waiting. There's a small lot immediately south of the building, but you'll likely need to park on the street. Not too difficult if you're patient. The best reason to come to Pompilios is food. Once you've eaten here you'll likely never look back at OG or Carrabas or Macaroni Grill. Always fresh. Served by an experienced and talented staff. You can't go wrong. My wife and I had the craving for Italian food but didn't want to cook at home. Off we went to Pompilios. We got there before 6pm and were seated right away. Our server, Melissa A took excellent care of us. My wife ordered the daily special, something with shrimp a cream sauce. The small taste she allowed me was almost enough to sway me from my regular dish, pappardella pasta with marinara bolognese. Always a strong choice. We ended our meal with tirimisu; delicious as ever. I would highly recommend Pompilios. It's good for groups,but call ahead. They have outside seating and bacci ball courts out back when the weather is better. We haven't sat out there since BC (before COVID) but when we there was live music and the weekend. Pompillios has really good homemade Italian food. It's a very relaxed atmosphere that reminds me of going to grandmas house for dinner. Service is always good. It can get really busy on weekends but check them out during the week and you'll get a seat quickly. I typically order the San Luci and it's delicious. Very rich and heavy, so if that's not your thing I wouldn't recommend it. Both the white and red sauces are good here. They have lots of options, including sandwiches. We were really excited to try Pomilios while visiting from out of town, but unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. We were seated around 6:15pm and were able to order our first round of drinks fairly quickly. However, after that, things slowed down significantly. Another group was seated behind us, and despite arriving after us, they were attended to first. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes before our waitress came back to take our food order and when she did, she opened with a blunt "what do you want," which felt unprofessional given the long wait. We ordered our meal along with an appetizer. The appetizer took about 30 minutes to arrive (it was very good), but our main course never came out. Meanwhile, we watched multiple groups who were seated after us receive their meals without any issues. Since we had a concert to attend nearby, my boyfriend paid ahead of time so we could leave as soon as the food arrived. When he expressed frustration, the waitress offered to comp a meal, but when he explained that we weren't looking for free food, just acknowledgment of the situation she responded, "it's not my money," which came across as dismissive and unprofessional. After waiting even longer with no food, we decided to leave. When we asked to speak with a manager, the host said he was the manager and briefly spoke with us, but never returned. Instead, the same waitress we had concerns about came back to handle everything, offering a refund and asking again if we wanted everything comped. We weren't looking for free meals, we were happy to pay for what we received. We just wanted better communication and accountability. Being told the kitchen was "behind" didn't make sense when several tables seated after us were served before us. I brought my sister and her husband from California and was very displeased with the service and the food. Our reservation was for 7:30 and after waiting 30 minutes for them to take our order, the server brough me the wrong drink twice. We asked for extra napkins twice before receiving them. At 9:00 she brough us the check and to-go "boxes" while I was still eating. She also was clanging dishes very loudly from a table next to us as she was cleaning up. As far as the food, my lasagna had this very dark brown sauce. I'm not sure what it was, and I could barely taste the cheese. My sister had maybe 3 bites of her dish because of the lack of flavor. Why didn't I find this place sooner? I've been hearing about it and meant to go. My friend always reminded me part of Rain Man was filmed here. It was busy on a typically slow Monday evening, but I was lucky enough to get one of the last places in a small parking lot. Winning. Seated right away and loved the space. Service was quick and friendly...my two favorite experiences in dining out. Well...that and good food of course. And they scored on all three! I had Eggplant over ravolli, and my friend had cheese stuffed manicotti. Both dishes were excellent, but when I looked at mine I thought it was a serving large enough for two. This place is one of our favorite Italian restaurants of all time and are tied #1 favorite in greater Cincy area. After discovering Pompilios a couple years ago, it has been our got to place in this area. Normally I get the Chicken Cacciatore which is phenomenal, but this time we came in during lunch, which has a smaller menu. At first I was disappointed, but why be negative about the opportunity to try another dish at your favorite restaurant? With that being said I seized the opportunity to try the Ronaldo and add grilled chicken to it, minus the feta cheese. Whoa, what an amazing dish. The chicken went flawlessly with the dish, minus the cheese. Not over powering in flavor with any ingredient. It was perfect and very, very, good. The portion was very big, not complaining at all as I always love leftover Italian! This has been our third visit here ever since discovering Pompilios about 2 years ago. This place has never disappointed with their food! Service has always been good with tentative servers. Although we have been coming here for years sometimes it can be hit or miss. Last time was definitely a hit, however, this visit my wife's pasta was overcooked and had very little meat in it. As an American Italian I expect pasta to be cooked al dente. Also the bread they give you was not really fresh this time. Not a good start. Service was fine and we do love the ambiance and energy of Pompilio's plus its history. Those who remember the scene from Rainman was filmed here in 1988 I think. The fact that we were staying in Covington and the restaurant was only 6 minutes away was a plus but inconsistent quality of food can be troubling. I contacted Pompillio's catering on November 30 for a large tray of food for a family gathering on December 14th for pickup at noon. 'Ken' responded one day later that it would be no problem. My guests were arriving and my daughter showed up for the entree. It was not ready. They had no record of the order. They offered to start preparing the dish while she waited, but there was a forty minute drive to my home and she had other items for the gathering. Contacting 'Ken' he said he had put the order in and they had lost it. He said they offered to start fixing it but understood why my daughter couldn't wait. There was no offer to prepare the entree and deliver it to our event or even comp a future visit to the restaurant. Needless to say nearly 30 potential customers understand how poor their customer service can be. read more

This place is horrible! I purchased an eggplant parm. and it was too ugly to eat! It had 2 lumps sitting on top of the eggplant slices. Never seen that before. My salad was poorly made with coleslaw mix underneath lettuce. It states on the website spring mix which I did not get. I paid plus tipped for a huge disappointment.
