FAN-DANG-TASTIC !!! Wow, am I glad I bookmarked this place to try during our weekend stay in the Tempe area! This place was just terrific. Interesting ambiance, a hoping bar, a fantastic menu and absolutely TOP-NOTCH service. We could not ask for more! We were lucky enough to have Amber S. for our server on a busy Friday night but she took the time to carefully explain Bobby's menu and how it all works and we were NOT disappointed! We ordered iced tea ($2), a Coke ($2.50) an order of Q Rolls ($12.00), the Whole Hog Heaven ($51) and one additional side ($4) so we would have an even number. WOW OH WOW !!!!! The Q Rolls were amazing! They were like brisket filled thick taquitos with two yummy sauces. YUM YUM YUM !! For the Whole Hog, we chose Baby Back and St Louis Style ribs (6 bones each), for the two meat choices - Brisket and Pulled Pork (huge amount!) and for the sides, mac n cheese, pecan cole slaw, mashed potatoes and then we added a side of ranch beans. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! They also provide complimentary corn bread and butter (they are served in these interesting circular shapes) and at the end of the meal, a little bag of cinnamon and sugar donuts! INCREDIBLE !! We are two huge eaters with no shame but even we think this was too much food for two people. What a happy problem to have. The only place in So Cal we can compare this to is Famous Dave's and at Bobby Q's, you get WAY MORE for your money. WAY MORE. We cannot wait to come back. Dining area is enormous, big enough for tour buses to unload but we were there before noon on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. Food was OK. Corn muffins came with the meal. No really dark beers but what we got was cold and not too expensive. The food was another matter. Basic sandwich was $20 and a platter was $25 .. and everything went up from there. Stopped in for dinner with one of my work associates while I was in town and we were greeted at the front with a couple of warm freshly made donuts. What a great touch. Started out with an order of the Bobby Q rolls, these are a must have. I ordered the ribs and my associate ordered the chicken. They were both really good but nothing particularly special about them. They do have a pretty good selection of whiskeys and beer and the bar is very comfortable to sit at. It could definitely use a couple of better positions for the televisions. The staff was awesome. First off I want to note that I am updating my review. I try to do my best by leaving honest feedback both good & bad. If it was something I was very upset with usually I do go directly to the manager but I felt like my last review wasn't horrible & assumed it just wasn't in their power to change something just because my opinion? If we are talking customer service then we are talking about Bobby Q. Jake reached out to me to welcome us back into their restaurant & even took the time out to greet me in person! WOW! That alone to me spoke volumes!! Cornbread was great as I mentioned before. The shoe string fries are fresh & have little seasoning which I do prefer personally! I got the ribs w/roasted corn & fries. My oldest got the smoked house burger & fries while my youngest got the chicken tenders & fries. She also likes very plain salad (cucumbers, lettuce, & tomatoes with no dressing) with dinner. My oldest likes her burger but she filled up on fries lol so we are taking it home. My youngest tried my ribs & wished she got those but ate most of her chicken tenders and fries + salad because she enjoyed them. Tyler our waiter was truly a joy! He was attentive & very personable. This is the love that I had my first visit happening again. It may not have happened had Jake not reached out & was so kind. My first time here was memorable because it was the first date my husband & I (of 10years) did when we moved to AZ. My husband's review is sugar coating it. My husband and I are easy when we go to restaurants. Most of the time we have already checked out the menu online, and we can order almost immediately as we sit. That was the case when we visited here. Our waitress came, I did ask for her opinion on a few of the menu items. We ordered a burger, chicken tenders, and water for the both of us. She offered to split the burger, and we said she didn't have to, and she said she would bring the tenders out first since they were an app. We kindly said that we really don't mind the order they come out, when ever they are ready, we would take them because we were really hungry. She laughed at this and said no problem, then she brought us our water, and then for the next 30 minutes or so, we didn't see her. The table next to us had their waiter check on the 6 times with in this time frame. Tables that were seated 10-15 minutes after us were getting served (burger), and we have yet to see our waitress again. At this point, I'm getting fussy and hangry, and I am looking around, seeing all the other tables being attended to and served (also by our waitress) and we are just sitting there. Finally we get a refill on our waters, and about 5 minutes later our food. The food was very yummy, I will not deny that, but the service was some of the worst I had in a while. I don't think I will be going back. it was $17 for the burger and $12 for 4 chicken tenders is a bit outrageous. I could have gotten the same thing next-door at Red Robin for half the price with MUCH better service. It's really disappointing. read more

This restaurant has the Best Barbecue I have ever had, anywhere and any place! The whole experience from start to finish is fun and delicious. Our server Kari, made it even more perfect. Beginning with her explanation of how they do things there, and how they prepare the food made us feel like we were in for a great experience. Then she brought the warm corn bread. Can you say heaven on earth?!! Yum! Next our food arrived promptly. We all had different dishes with brisket. It was tasty, tender and melted in your mouth. Kari, our server had the perfect mix of attentiveness, while not being bothersome. And........at the end of the meal we each got a bag of mini cinnamon and sugar donuts which they make fresh while you are eating your meal. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. I had the opportunity to visit this Mesa location; comparing it to the Biltmore BOBBY Q... well other than the more casual ambiance & decor, there actually was not that much difference. I received the same "shining service" and TERRIFIC food. I was downing margaritas; therefore, I had to have an appetizer to help absorb the liquor, so we ordered a baked pretzel, that was huge enough to feed ALL (3) of us; as well as an order of Louisiana style Cajun shrimp (that was incredibly good) I was so full I was unable to eat my entree. The service is comparable to a 5 Star resort___we sat at the bar, and felt like we had our "own private bartender" who was brilliantly attentive. We really were anxious to try this place due to the reviews. Sadly though we were disappointed. We wanted to like the food but no one in our party enjoyed our dishes. Maybe an off night maybe not but we weren't impressed. Two of us ordered the rib eye and in hindsight shame on us for ordering steak at a BBQ restaurant. We'll save our steaks for steak restaurants going forward. We've have tastier and more tender steaks. Another in our party ordered brisket and rib tips. We sampled her brisket and it was tender and delicious while her rib tips were tasteless and tough. No wonder she didn't touch them. The atmosphere is what you'd expect in a BBQ joint. I woke up yesterday craving a baked potato with bbq on top. We normally have another spot to go for bbq but Mom wanted to try this place. My bbq stuffed baked potato was amazing. The spicy bbq sauce was not too spicy. Pretty perfect. I had a Whiskey Sunset from the drunk menu and it was also very tasty. My mom has the catfish po' boy but she was rather disappointed. She said the catfish was very thin, not much meat. My dad has the brisket sandwich. He liked it but also said there wasn't a lot of meat on it. The only issue is our service was very slow. There is a difference between BBQ and cooked meat with a bunch of sauce slathered all over it. Unfortunately this place is the latter. They give a big speach about smoking their meat for 18 hours blah blah blah....the brisket on the plate that was served to me did not even have a smoke ring on it. To say the least I wouldn't serve this crap to my dog. The food is very expensive and not worth it. If you like cooked meat with sauce on it this is your place however in my opinion getting a McRib sandwich from McDonald's is equivalent to this place and a lot less expensive.
