Cocktails at Boardners prior to an event next door.
Rachel D.

Service and staff are great. Dark cosy atmosphere. Food is so so, maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Drinks top notch! Fun

espresso martini fire af

So pleased with this hidden gem!!! Had reservations cancelled by the stupid Christmas bar around the block so walked over here. Ambiance and vibe is intimate but cozy, simple decor creates a backdrop for an elevated drink and food menu. Happy hour was offered from 5-8pm with discounted beer/wine/well and food. Got the espresso martini which tasted delicious and another cucumber/ginger and gin drink that was AMAZING. Drinks pack a PUNCH yet are well balanced and reasonably priced. Cocktails are extremely well curated and service was IMPECCABLE. Both bartenders there checked up on us and served us in a timely manner. Fried cauliflower and happy hour tacos were great! Brought with plates, napkins, silverwear, sauces, everything! Not a single thing lacking from the service. Definitely recommend and absolutely worth supporting.

The bouncer that was screaming at women smaller than him and accusing of being drunk and refusing to let in even though I do not drink

Awful environment if you are a woman The bouncers were extremely misogynist and would not even let us into the door and called me drunk, even though I do not drink alcohol. I really think you should avoid this club if you are a woman. I also think that these men should get some sort of consequence for the way that they treat the guests. Borderline hate crime honestly Also, when I said that I was afraid that the bouncer might hurt me because he was being very aggressive towards me. The other bouncer laughed and rolled his eyes at me. Very much treated me and my female friends like we were crazy women and they didn't even treat us like human beings It was honestly really sick and even made me hate my own gender for a second Apparently, the manager and the owner of this place is also immature so i'm not sure this problem will get fixed soon so steer clear

Opening at 5pm Boardners has become our local go-to for my husband and I as this was where our first date was. There is such a positive vibe to this place that makes me proud that this is the neighborhood I live in. The staff and patrons are artistic in every different type of cinematic field. Eli, Cat & Keenan are all equally amazing to us and always have been kind, consistent and fun to talk to. And can handle this sometimes very high volume barscape with ease. I recommend the entire menu but tend to ricochet between the steamed dumplings, the angel hair pasta and my favorite salad in town - their Cobb Salad - which happens to have been invented in Hollywood, so its nice that Boardners makes a solid one. Speaking of history, Boardners is that - from the classic Hollywood studio system era onwards this place has served the hard working people of the Motion Picture Industry and you can feel it. There is something special here that makes you want to stay the night, journal, meet new talented friends and enjoy the vibe as it opens up into a busy fun place. A true Actor & Musician hangout ! Every time I'm here I get into awesome conversation with talented and very funny people who are either writing their own content or just performed for the day on a set! The back courtyard is a great place to take guests who visit as it adds to the whole Hollywood vibe and hosts live music some nights and the acoustics are perfection for this.

Third Super Bowl in a row here. Food specials are always the best! And Cat delivers behind the bar!

Always wanted to try Boardner's since it's such a Hollywood institution! I am not the bar hopping type, but I like to find cool bars for a drink with friends here and there. Boardner's been around since 1942, many stars stopped by here for a drink, old Hollywood era stars like Errol Flynn, Ed Wood, Robert Mitchum (we sat in a booth under his signed photo, how cool!), Charles Bukowski, etc. They even shot a few scenes here for "Ed Wood", Tim Burton's movie, inside at the bar and outside. So we were early birds here (it opens at 5 pm) for my husband's birthday, eager to try their HH. It goes from 5pm to 8 pm. For beers, you save if you get bottled beer, we got a couple of Dos Equis on tap. Food is $7, so we tried their Nachos with carnitas, nice, fresh, smaller side, but full of flavor and ingredients (avocado, cheese, jalapenos, beans, sour cream, nice salsa), BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders (you get 2 and fries, which is a pretty good deal)- decent, the sauce was a tad sweet for me, but birthday boy liked it. We enjoyed a lot their street tacos, got the asada, nicely cooked steak, fresh ingredients. Great HH hour! Very nice service, the bartender couldn't be more welcoming and helpful, great staff in general. Water from the house (they have jugs with water and lemon on the side), clean restroom, they also have a nice outdoor area where they had some musicians playing. I loved their atmosphere, darkly lit, nice booths, old school Hollywood decor. They were playing decent music, 80's tunes. Don't love the TV-s here, it takes away from the mysterious vibe. The regulars are cool. They happened to have somebody who gathered a lot of people for their birthday and it was getting a tad too crowded, had to push and shove to get some attention that I needed to get out of my booth and use the restroom. So inconsiderate folks who ignored other patrons. That was the worst part, but it's just a thing of timing. I would come here again, enjoy the atmosphere, the food and the legends smiling from the wall. We need to preserve places like this around!

Their version of an itemized receipt
Leeana S.

I usually love coming here for the music and vibes, but whichever bartenders were working the shift on the night of 11/25 for the club decades event overcharged me and my friends. If you're going to leave an open tab here- make sure you keep track of what they ring up on your card!! They don't give "itemized" receipts here so they just hand write your items down if you want. They charged us for 3 drinks we didn't even order. We had ordered 8 drinks total but they rung us up for 11 drinks. Unfortunately we didn't notice until we had gotten home because their tactic for writing receipts is so stupid that I didn't wanna waste my time breaking it down in the middle of the club. My mistake- now I know for future!

We had two separate servers because one went home during the middle of our dinner and both were equally horrible. Not even exaggerating when I say we waited at least 15 minutes after we asked for the check and there were probably only 10 tables in the entire restaurant. And we had to call her back over to ask for a second time. SMH. The food although flavorful was so ridiculously priced it was not even funny. I got a "ribeye ". Was literally eight thin slices of steak, like 1" x 1" size for $42! No, I will not be coming back here for so many reasons. The view is great. Castaways is definitely not what it used to be in the way of quality but at least you get more and you get the view. But definitely not worth it going to this place. It was quite a frustrating evening. Also, if you do decide to go here, just bring a coat when it's a little bit cooler in the evenings cause it does get cold up here and getting the staff to manage the heaters correctly is a whole other frustration. Oh, and valet is your only option for parking up here. It's kind of crazy because a few years ago you could just go park in the lot or the garage that's available there but now they're charging you $11 and it's chaos. I will say that the view up here is great though so if you're willing to forgo all of that for a view for like a one time date or something like that, it might be worth it

Nearby were draped booths that would be perfect for a more romantic evening. Our server was, Haley...she was incredible. Very personable, helpful and extremely professional. You'll be in good hands if you're lucky enough to get her! Then the food...Wow. My wife and my sister got the filet migons, watching my wife's euphoric reaction of taking her fist bite made my evening! Omg...thankfully, my wife let me try garlic fries that came with the filets, and they were the best I ever had! I got the Langostino Fettuccine...outstanding. You have to dig a little spicy, which I do...but the vodka cream sauce is the real highlight of this dish. For deserts we got the apple cobbler, the creme brulee and sticky toffee cake. All three were fantastic. But I preferred the cobbler and the toffee cake the most. We didn't get the Le Petit Gateau, their chocolate cake...but we decided to get one to go! HA...it's unbelievably rich and pretty tall and big. It's topped with candied wild cheries...it's two days later and we're still eating this yummy treat. All in all...I would recommend this for any occasion...wether you're looking for just a night out with solid service and great food, to a romantic evening. However, the reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the valet parking experience. First, I was charged $25 even though the sign clearly stated that valet parking is $17 for the first 3 hours, and $25 after 3 hours. Our reservation was at 6:30 PM, we arrived on time, and we left before 9 PM, so the charge did not make sense. When I asked the valet attendant, he kept saying, "because you dined there," without giving any clear explanation. If it is actually a flat rate for restaurant guests, then that should be clearly stated upfront to customers. Second, when I got into my car, I noticed that someone had touched the navigation settings because the compass direction and display were different from what I normally use. I do not understand why there was any need to adjust or touch my navigation system at all. I really think the restaurant needs to improve and better manage its valet parking system. Honestly, it felt like I was being charged a random price just because I was told, "you dined there." If there is a flat valet rate for restaurant guests, that information should be clearly communicated upfront instead of leaving customers confused at the end.
