Wow, I was just strolling Hollywood Blvd. with my lady friend and we were looking for a bite to eat. Boardners was on the way and I thought we could peak in and see what was up. Oh my, I knew the decor and ambiance had changed a bit from the past, but the menu was tangible, yet sprinkled with little, tasty, tapa-like dishes. We had the salmon, mushrooms and mac and cheese. All three were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I was licking my chops for hours. The service was warm and frinedly and we felt most comfortable. I've only been here for Blue Mondays on Monday nights (Good turnouts every week considering it's on Mondays) & Bar Sinister on two particular occasions (1st time I had a bad experience with one of the security guards and the 2nd time was so packed my friends and I weren't even able to get in). Never knew they served food by day, kind of curious to see what that's all about. I really enjoy the atmosphere, decor, quirky crowd and music of this place which is what keeps me coming back. Wish I could give them a higher rating but they do have some major customer service flaws that hold me back. Parking: A little difficult to find free parking nearby but definitely manageable. Theres also lots of affordable surrounding parking as well. Ambience: Two dance floors. Two bars, Smoking patio away from the dance floor areas. Beautiful semi covered outdoor patio with a candle lit tree center piece in a decor water fountain, a large stage, outdoor bar and videos playing against the wall. The second dance floor is indoors where there is dark lighting, seductive victorian/goth decor, lots of seating, a second bar and an upstairs lounging area. On Monday nights they tend to play a mixture of 80s, new wave, dark wave and brit pop in the indoor dance floor while the outdoor patio varies from goth, industrial, indie and even hip hop depending on the them of the night. Service: The bar does not have a very large selection of drinks to choose from. The bartenders are slow and seem careless about quickly attending clients. The security guards are very rude to selective individuals for no reason and just seem angry all the time as if they hated their jobs. AND I've had an experience where a male employee walked in to the women's restroom to refill the paper towels and toilet paper while there were women in the stalls using the facilities, including myself! I don't know if theres anything against that type of thing but I felt very uncomfortable after that. Price: They have a weird way of charging guest at the door. Its like if you have a flyer you get a discount, if you arrive before a certain time you get a discount, on selective days no discounts are honored, ect. So you really have to look into the event type you are attending. read more

This place was beyond unwelcoming, and our server was awful! My friends and I joined a pubcrawl as an excuse to finally visit this place and personally, I felt that the servers and bartenders were snobbish and seemed bothered that we were part of the pubcrawl. Despite the unwelcoming atmosphere, we requested a booth because we were so hungry and we didn't want to walk too far from the pubcrawl to find another place eat. Our server spent most of her time flirting with the bartender and purposely avoiding our table by going around us. When she finally got around to us, we asked about the pubcrawl specials and she seemed annoyed that we didn't know what mixed drinks were up for the special. Moreover, we had to ask her repeatedly to bring one glass of water (for our designated driver). Without even an apology for her absentmindedness, she brought only one glass of water that was mostly ice and never came back to give our friend the one refill we requested. When she finally got us our food, we were appalled at how small the portions were for the price! We paid 64$ for 2 steak dinners, overcooked and literally fit in the palm of your hand, and a plate of nachos that looked like vomit. If do not like being ignored and being overcharged for inferior quality food, AVOID THIS BAR!! Needless to say, we will NEVER GO BACK there again! read more

The venue is great - covered outside smoking area has a cool water feature, perfectly sized stage for dancing and a great outdoor hallway entrance. A blonde Man walks around,pretends to clean things up (I was thinking since we were the only ones smoking that maybe we werent allowed to?),the man eventually comes up to us and says "This patio is for patrons only.You cant just come to our bar and smoke in the back",Well,we had just gotten there,couldn't have been there longer than 10 minutes.Who the fuck even does that?! I told him we simply hadnt ordered yet but intended to,"We ARE customers,we came from the bar..look...I will come with you and order our drinks right now then",he starts to walk in front of me and I follow him back to the bar,telling him we didnt know we couldnt smoke,and asking about the drinks,he is ignoring me, when I sit down and he meets me on the other side of the bar, he tells me "You and your friends have to leave." I told him "...Okay"Confused but complying. He says "Right now.You and your friends have to go.",Im literally already getting up to go tell my friends ",I said "Alright" again. Im walking back to them and they are walking to me saying were going to go. We got no warning,didnt know we couldn't smoke,because we were told we had to be patrons,which we were. I've only been here on Blue Mondays...going in the bouncers are kinda rude.. I like both rooms.. Music is good in either. The outdoor looking patio is chill. You can sit on the fountain and get entertained by the drunk and disorderly..and they play techno/electro/indie remixes.. The bar service is better in the bigger 80s room.. And I love the decor in here.. Goth-like and a place to sit everywhere... The atmosphere is hard to describe... It feels like you're really not there... Either everyone is on something or idk but it seems like they're in their own little world...which is perfect because I'm a little anti-social...drinks are cheaper than your usual club price... It's an ok time if you wanna go out but don't really feel like doing the big club scene.. Or if meeting someone there on the way to something better... read more

Only Club in Hollywood so Far that I went to that doesn't have long lines. There's 2 Dance Floors, 1 outside and 1 inside. Only complaint I have is both rooms play Hip Hop, why have 2 rooms of the same music, it should be House Music in 1 Room and Hip Hop in the other room not both. The Drink prices aren't that bad. Also 75% of people that go here are Asians so if like an Asian Crowd this is a good place to go to. read more

I think this is the coolest bar in Hollywood. It is not on the strip so therefore it avoids a lot of the chaos of traffic. What I enjoyed about this bar when I went is that me and my girlfriend both came in on a budget. We both got a PBR because that's what we desire to drink and it also has matched our financial needs and we played a game of operation on the little couch in front of a fireplace. What more can one want. Board games and beer in front of a fire place where nobody is bothering you and you're just having a good time. what I love about this place to is the decor it is very very old. Even the parts hop in the bathrooms are decorated in the old. The staff is very friendly and seems to enjoy working there. you can also get food here which is not always the case of bars. So, I remember having the best times here years ago on Saturdays for Bar Sin. This is the first Wednesday I have attended any event here in the big room. I went next door to the restaurant and had some wings and some rounds with people I asked to meet me here. Everything WAS fine. It sucks that this evening before the doors opened my friend and his wife were mistreated. My one friend was performing here this evening and even agreed to supply some music equipment for the other acts. My other friend (his wife ) was not only kicked out during load in, but treated very poorly by security AFTER she made clear she was his wife. His wife happens to be the lead singer of the touring band Butcher Babies. She has dealt with some crazy scenarios and can handle herself. But regardless, why would any security guy treat any petite woman the way this one did? Then, to top it off my friend (her husband) went back in to make sure everything was alright and this SAME security guy said something to the effect " .....your marriage was probably terrible before tonight..." ?? Why is my friends' marriage any of this security guard's OR ANYONE's business. This security guard should not be speaking to anyone. I gladly spent over $50 before showtime before I heard what happened. We even made several attempts to find, and asked for a GM several times. NOTHING. No one came forth to make sure she, he, or anyone was alright. We waited an hour and asked the bartenders several times. NOTHING. If the security in this club cannot help but over react then they should be replaced, or see a shrink to decompress before work so no more petite females are able to trigger their hostilities. Oh, then as I kindly asked a third bartender for a manager and was told by that bartender that "the was no manager " and " he has his back " meaning the security guy. When my friend hold him how she felt about the situation the bartender then replied that HER mouth is why she was kicked out. All she did was share what she felt and what the security guy did. So obviously there is no structure to management at this establishment. And the staff is free to do what they please at the cost of future business. Maybe they will learn that hospitality goes a long way to when people who haven't been here for a long time, or newcomers, spend money here. Regardless of who was right, wrong, whatever..... The way this was handled was less than professional. Staff really shouldn't voice their opinions about what they didn't witness. read more

This place has nice decor and a good vibe but I had an awful experience with the bartenders who were working the inside bar on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the "Moscow" club. Both the male and female bartenders were so rude I would NEVER return to this club. I order two drinks from the male bartender who took my card and took his sweet time to run it and give me my bill. When he finally did, he had taken the liberty of writing in his own tip! AND he charged me more for the drinks then he originally told me they were priced. When I crossed out the tip and gave the bill back to the female bartender she looked at it and then showed the male bartender. He got pissed slammed my card on the bar in front of me and yelled "F*cking B*itch" at me!!! I have never experienced any service like that and suggest that both of those bartenders get a lesson in customer service. Who writes in their own tip!?! So, sorry "Moscow" you will never see this girl again. I do not suggest this place to anyone looking to be treated with general respect or dignity. read more

Great experience! I had a surprise birthday party thrown for me here last weekend and we had a wonderful time. The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating. They reserved a table for us in the back, let my girlfriend drop off a cake ahead of time, then brought the lit cake out with plates and forks for everyone in our party. The rest of the bar crowd was also very friendly and joined in on the surprise moment. I would highly recommend Boardner's for a cocktail or for a group occasion.
