Food is really good here and I used to eat here a lot be use its close to my job. However in the past three weeks I've had my information stolen in two separate cards. I called the restaurant and was told I would be called back by the food and drink manager after the evening manager gave me some attitude but ultimately took my info. Wait staff was real friendly but I just don't trust them anymore. Shame because the food really was great. But because of the thieves and the no call back from the manager I would give negotiate stars if I could. read more

This is the restaurant inside the Holiday Inn near the Bush airport. I was staying nearby and decided to see whether they had anything I could eat. Surprisingly enough, they did. I had the veggie burger two nights in a row. It was an incredibly large portion, but tasty. The fries were pretty good too. The service at the bar was abysmal. I started talking to the guy sitting next to me who waited something like 20 minutes for a beer. I was trying to pay for my beer for an equal amount of time. Ridiculous. We finally got up and got our own menus as our requests went unanswered. Granted it was busy, but to be sitting right in front of someone and not even a glance in your direction is really irritating. read more

Stopped here due to a layover. Restaurant is nicely furnished. Staff is friendly. We both had chicken fried steak. It was delicious. Our server Evelyn was fantastic!!!!! She is friendly and efficient. She took great care of us. Prices are fair and the menu selection has something for everyone. Salads are chilled and fresh. read more

Very slow service. Reuben sandwich; 30 minute wait for untoasted rye and meat that was sliced way too thick. Much too sloppy to eat. Ordered the home made chips and salsa. Chips were stale. I sent it all back, finished my glass of wine and left. I'm sure there must be something worth eating from the menu but i really did not want to wait another half hour. Waitress was nice and apologized for the meal. I would stick to chicken fingers or something that takes no skill or thought to cook. read more

Flustered - verb (used with object) to put into a state of agitated confusion. "The act of collecting monies for services rendered flustered the waitress to no end." I'm amused easily, and thankfully I'm a man of simple pleasures. The restaurant attached to my hotel in Houston is called "Good Eats." As a fan of the Food Network cooking show by Alton Brown called Good Eats I had to partake. Off to YELP I go for a ranking and reviews. (Hope you are happy Derek Cunningham!) 48 reviews, 3 stars out of a potential 5. Meh. I keep looking. Tita's Taco House - 217 reviews, 5 stars out of 5. Now we are talking. How far away? 5 miles, perfect. Oh no! Only open until 2:00 pm. Crud. Back to the Good Eats reviews. Rated best chicken fried steak in Houston. I love chicken fried steak and comfort food after a full day in airports and a plane seats is just what the Dr. ordered. So I take off my business causal shoes, put on flip lops and head down to the lobby for some home cooking, Texas style. They feature a n adult beverage called an Eat-A-Rita, the house specialty. Bingo, order that. It is great...and BIG! Order the chicken fried steak with an add on, Indian Summer Soup for an additional $2. The order arrives, but my soup never shows up. She realizes this as she is setting the plate down. DO you still want the soup sir or should I strike it from the bill? I want the soup and she scurries off to fetch it. The steak is large, smothered with white gravy and a small pile of shredded lettuce on the side with 2 tomato slice on top of the lettuce. The menu said there would be 2 vegetables with it. Lettuce is kind of a vegetable, and tomatoes are technically a fruit, but OK I can live with it. The soup arrives and dig into my steak. It is a little bland, but the gravy is good...What's this? The meat is chicken. Where I come from chicken fried steak is beef, chicken fried chicken is chicken, but hey, when in Rome... I salt and pepper the steak to taste and dig in. In the meantime, the table next to me is served their meals. (Interesting group, but they will be a different ramble.) One orders chicken fried steak too, but he has broccoli and mashed potatoes for his vegetables. Hmmm. So when my waiter makes her next round I ask if I ordered mine incorrectly. She asks why? I point to the plate next door and say he has 2 veggies and I have lettuce. Did I order mine wrong? She says no, you asked for soup. I said, the menu said the soup was a $2 add on. She said, oh, I substituted, would you like veggies? I said, nope, you made a great decision, I just needed to ask. Thank you. Now I try the soup. OMG! This has flavors that POP! Beer cheese based soup with rotisserie chicken cubes, sweet corn and diced jalapeno peppers. This soup was worth everything else that happened. What else happened? Glad you ask. I'm sitting at the table after dining and she asks if I'd like anything else. No I say, just the check. She smiles and hurries off. 10 minutes later she comes back and asks if she can take my bill. I say no, you didn't bring one. Eyes wide open and scurries off again. 10 minutes later she comes back and asks if I'm sure I didn't already pay. No, I say and it wouldn't be honest to say differently. Eyes wide open and scurries off again. 5 Minutes later a nice young man brings out a check and puts it on my table...but wait it is not over. I look at the total $21 and some odd cents. Look in my bill fold and plop a $20 and $10 in the folder and lay it down. 5 more minutes pass and no waiter. On a lark I open the bill and it says 2 Stella Artois mugs and chicken strips. I had one margarita and chicken fried steak. 5 more minutes pass and she arrive to get it. Like a fool a say, "Not my bill." Eyes wide open, this time looking at the bill and utters "Stupid computer" while scurrying off one more time." Only 1 minute later she arrives with my bill, which coincidentally was also $21 and some odd cents. I give her $30 and she disappears for the final time. When she returns instead of $8 and some change, she has $6 and no change. I grabbed the $5 laid down a $1 ontop of the $1 she brought me, and told her she can have the remainder of the change that she shorted me plus the $2 for her tip. ($4 and change) We both smiled at each other, and she thanked me for being patient and nice. I told her to not let it get her down and headed back to my room...to write my latest ramble. read more

Best bartender in Houston. It's only his third week. If you are at the holiday inn for work, this is the place to go. Ask for Edgar! read more

Blue Dixie Kitchen - Best bartender in Houston! Ask for Edgar! - American Near Me - Houston, Texas

Service was friendly, good and prompt. The menu has something for every mood, appetite and taste. The food came quickly, even though it was during lunch time. The portions are generous. We had the chicken fried steak, a hamburger, and two different pasta dishes: well seasoned, not salty, nicely presented. The cornbread is yummy. I even liked the country gravy...I am usually not a big fan of that. Our experience was such, that we ordered dessert and coffee: the peach cobbler is delicious, the apple-pie pretty good: everything has flavor...not just sugar and calories. Heck even the american coffee was nice and sufficiently strong. We will go back. read more

Exactly what the restaurant's name says it is for weary airport travelers, Good Eats' classic American menu and warm-hearted service are infused with a touch of southern charm. I highly recommend the chicken-fried steak, as well as both the squash and broccoli and rice casseroles. The steak was moist and the batter crisp, just as it should be, and the gravy was passable. This restaurant created an immensely satisfying end to a long day in the air. read more

Do yourself a favor an avoid this dive (and the hotel attached to it). Went here for breakfast since it was in the hotel and I had an early meeting. Since I still had things to do I asked about getting my order to go. You would think a simple "ok" or "we don't do to go orders" would be suffice. Instead I got a middle-aged woman who acted like I just asked here to personally cook. My breakfast and feed it to me. Like a spoiled teenager in a whiny tone told me "I'll see what I an do" as she threw down her dirty bar towel. Here's a tip, don't work as a waitress if you don't want people to ask you to take a good order! Judging by the look of the food delivered to the guy at the bar when all this was happening, I don't think I missed anything of quality by walking away. read more

The gravy for the chicken fried steak was grey colored and tasted awful. How do you mess up gravy? Potatoes at gratin we're mushy and tasted off. The Mac and cheese was ok. The chicken fried steak tasted like it was just pulled out of the freezer. read more

My sister and I had the chicken fried steak and it was delicious! There was a longer wait but the gravy was worth it. Veggies were not great and neither were the mashed potatoes! Good service by Carlos. read more

Happy staff reasonable price limited choices decent food served well.

Had the Rancher's Ribeye medium and it was AMAZING!!! I have not a piece of steak that good since Ruth Chris's. Side of Mac and cheese was great. Ordered chicken Quesadillas as an appetizer and they were great chunky pieces of chicken. Overall, great food, great service!!! read more

I have eaten here many times in the past and had good service as well as good food. However, today we arrived, chose to order a-la-cart (was told later that orders can expect at least a 20 min delay over the buffet). I asked if hash browns could be substituted for country potatoes. Sure. Our food arrived cold and, on my plate was a McDonalds style deep fried square of greasy hash browns as well as country. My toast came after I had finished. My wife's waffle was cold, well done and hardly edible. She had to remind the waitress of the fruit which again took half of the meal to receive. Hardly worth the $28 tab for 2 basic meals plus 1 coffee! Needless to say we will probably not return! read more

Decent place to get a well rounded meal with good staff and a full bar. Locate at the Holiday Inn with plenty of parking. The bread is very good and the portion size is enough to take some home with you. read more

Husband and I had a layover and stayed at hotel attached to good eats- stopped in on a late Friday night for some food after a long day. Our waitress was amazing, african american woman I want to say Felicia was her name. She knew her job- she was on it, and she was the only server in the facility. I had the buffalo salad and husband had chicken fried chicken. Beers were good. Food was good. Very affordable. read more

Service was not good. If I could have taken my whole plate of food and thrown it in the trash I probably would have enjoyed the experience. The establishment should really consider changing the name to "not so good eats". I would not recommend this place. read more

Not a bad place for a Hotel restaurant...servers are nice and the beer is cold. Get the cheaper food, it's worth it for the moment money. DON'T GET THE $28 RIBEYE!!! For that price I was expecting something decent...it's the same cut of meat you get at Denny's with they're $10 steak and eggs . read more

Great food. Any of the fish plates are cooked to perfection I love staying at the holiday inn when I'm in training so I can eat here. Grilled chicken Caesar salad is really good too. Service is great. Very good experience everytime read more

This place is terrible. Been here about 4 times and have yet to have anything good to eat. Mashed potatoes and gravy taste like eating a spoon full of salt. read more

I come to Houston once a year and stay near the airport. I am crazy about their boneless buffalo chicken with blue cheese. I crave it for the whole rest of the year! Service is so-so -- depends who you get. The Good Eats Salad with shrimp is really good also. read more

Stayed in Houston for the night and decided to try Good Eats for dinner with 2 kids and 5 adults. Everyone enjoyed their meal and finished their entire plate. The kids Mac n cheese is just kraft which is some what disappointing but other than that everything was great! Our waitress was super attentive and never let drinks get empty and made sure everything was great! If we were to stay in Houston again, we would definitely eat there again! read more

Food is very bland. Ordered pasta with chicken. The chicken tasted alright. The pasta tasted like wet noodles. No flavor at all. My daughter had the Mac n cheese, no flavor there either... Minus the huge amount of pepper they put on it. Good eats? More like "bad eats". Wouldn't come back. read more

NOT at all like the Good Eats in Dallas! Very bland. My veggie burger was like a hockey puck. My "spicy" rice and beans were crunchy and there was no spice to it at all. The best part of the meal was the Michelob Ultra which was served quite cold--thank you for that. read more

I gave it 5 stars because it is perfectly what it is suppose to be. The food is good, the service is great. It's priced reasonably and clean and quick. I visit here pretty often. read more

3.5 stars. I stayed at hotel for a week and ordered lunch/dinner 5 of 7 days. Food is good, solid diner quality with good size portions for prices. Some items are little more expensive than in room menu. The room service staff has all been friendly. However it usually takes 30-45 minutes to get your order and its usually missing an item or side wrong. With a little more attention to detail would be solid 4. read more

Best place near George bush airport! If you are at a near by hotel make sure to tell them to get a discount!

Portions a little smaller than some reviews indicate but chicken fried steak with brown gravy was very good. Prices reasonable. Service was a little slow but probably only because they were packed. Jeffrey was server, great personality, very personable. read more

I received a free coupon for the breakfast buffet here with my room and I've gotta say it was pretty good for a hotel restaurant buffet. Eggs were cooked to order very fast and the guy preparing them was very friendly. He would make them any way you wanted. They also had crisp bacon and sausage, hash browns, grits, biscuits and gravy, cereal, and fruit. All were pretty good for a buffet. Included was coffee, juice, and milk. I don't know what it would cost if it weren't free but I would say it was worth $7 or $8. Good overall! read more

First of all on a day when u r struck in hurricane and canceled flight these people were open with lot of crowd waiting to be seated while most of the restaurant seats were seen vacant. I waiting time was 20-25 mins. Our order arrived and one of the item was missing. Our waitress was little hurried so didn't took any efforts to explain any specials. Everything was a little pricy. Napkins were looking very old and used. But food was okey. At least they were open that day. Overall, I don't wang to go there again. Berrita was smthng we were lukng forward to but it was also okey. read more

Service was excellent, though the up-sell pushes were constant. Food was good, but nothing spectacular. Prices were reasonable. There are few choices near the airport, so this is one of the better (and only) options. We were staying at the on-airport Marriott, and I think we should have just eaten there. Surely more expensive, but it looked like quite a nice restaurant (didn't look at it or the menu until after we'd eaten at Good Eats). read more

This place does have a Texas twist but missing the Texas flavor (Food was bland). Overall the restaurant was nice & the ppl was very nice. Would I eat here again.........Yes I would give it another shot. read more

It was close. That was about all it had going. It's a shame too. Good Eats used to be a really good home cooking place. Not so much anymore.

This is a nice and clean place to get a meal. The menu is full of choices. The Monte Cristo special and award winning chicken fried steak looked and sounded great. Prices are average. Since those special dishes are not something I would normally order, I opted for the steak salad which was just ok read more

Very disappointing. I was starving and got seated quickly even during lunch rush. Service was good, food came out fast. Yuck! Side salad was pathetic scraps of lettuce with tons of croutons overwhelming the plate. Ordered a steak that was tough as nails and overcooked on one side and undercooked on the other. There was a head of raw broccoli that didn't even looked clean. read more

Pretty varied menu with something for everyone. The fact you can choose your sides gives you the option to be healthy or just carbo load. Steaks are very good as is the fish. Burgers are merely ok with the meat to bun ratio a little out of balance ( give me more meat!). Nice bartenders will make sure you never have an empty glass. read more

Prompt and friendly service. The warm rolls are yummy! Good comfort food, as well as salads. Reasonable prices. Review is for lunchtime.

Ordered Mammas meatloaf with steamed broccoli and squash casserole. The meatloaf was overdone and the steamed broccoli was just steamed.... no salt , no lemon nothing. I will give another try next time in town. Will let you know! read more
