Came here on our last day here in Houston and I must say it was one of the best BBQ spot I have ever tried here. We ordered sliced brisket with mac n cheese, coleslaw, chopped brisket sandwich, and a pecan pie. The sliced brisket was so juicy and tender with so much charred flavor. The meat was cooked to perfection and got me wanting more! The mac and cheese wasn't too overwhelming and actually complemented the meat. As for the brisket sandwich, I thought it was good in terms of the meat, however, I must say it reminded me of sloppy joes too much. If I had to choose, I prefer getting the brisket sliced over chopped. As for the coleslaw, it was fresh and not too overwhelming with the mayo, which I love. The ratio of cabbages and carrots were evenly distributed. Lastly, the pecan pie was not too sweet and really soft yet crunchy. Overall, I would love to come here again, it was honestly one of the best!

Wish we had BBQ like this in Columbus; everything on the sampler plater was delicious and the staff was super helpful and welcoming. It's not just a restaurant they also have a store where you can buy all kinds of goodies, sauces pickeled veggies, specialty chips, etc. And it seems like they have a ton of regulars. Please come to Columbus Ohio!!

Combo plate: Smoked Turkey & Brisket, Mac N' Cheese, Sweet Potato - Kale & white wine

We ordered BBQ at the counter and then walked around the store with my glass of wine. The cashier was welcoming, patient, friendly, & answered our questions. We ordered the combo plate to share: 2 meats & 2 sides. We selected smoked turkey (AMAZING!) and brisket (yummy!) with the creamy mac n cheese and sweet potato with kale sides. The creamy mac n cheese was delicious and served hot & very creamy. The sweet potato and kale was tasted fine, but served warm so I think I didn't get the full flavor. Walking around the store is a nice way to wait for your name to be called and see what you need to purchase. They had a lot of items they made & package up, like butter mix, cream cheese mix, tamales in the freezer, and juices. They cary a lot of Texas-made brands & more. Even saw a wine from Alta Marfa. And their wine bottles are 10% off when you buy three!

A local restaurant with incredible customer service. Felt so welcomed. Had BRISKET and Spicy Smoked Cheddar SAUSAGE with GREEN BEANS and SWEET POTATO SALAD (never had the salad prepared this way - one of a kind). Extremely delicious BBQ! Finished up with an Americano and house-made GINGER ORANGE COOKIES while sitting in one of the chairs outside where I could feel the sunlight on my face. Had an amazing afternoon. Thank you guys. Unrivaled southern hospitality. I love Houston.

Recently visited Houston and of course, wanted to try alllllll the Bbq. I also prefer to try smaller, local restaurants versus big chains. Nothing wrong with the big chain restaurants but the small local places are hidden gems and something you can't get anywhere else. Thanks to yelp, I discovered Henderson & Kane. It is a small corner market in what seems like a neighborhood. There's a cute little free library out front and it doubles as not only the barbecue Café, but also a little corner market. I ordered a brisket sandwich and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was flavorful and creamy. The sliced brisket was tender and had an amazing wood smoke flavor. I'm a pickle girl and the pickles were a little disappointing because they seemed like food service pickles but trust me I would still eat here again. The sandwich didn't even need any pickles because the flavor of the brisket was perfection. We sat at the tables in the middle of the store and I got to look around and really enjoyed the store. I tried a local homemade seltzer, which was delicious as well. I definitely think Henderson & Kane what's the exactly what I was hoping it would be. The small, local hidden gem that makes amazing food and makes you feel like your family when you're there.

This is a cute neighborhood spot. It's a corner store/coffee shop/bbq joint all rolled into one. The atmosphere is a quaint little general store. We came here on a whim and the bbq was actually really good. The brisket was so damn tender and flavorful. I actually enjoyed this place and would certainly come back. I want to come check out their steak night also. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The guy at the counter even brought me a rib to try because he saw me eyeing my wife's plate. Overall this was a good pick. 8/10

Still fantastic and my favorite BBQ spot in Houston and the place we take our friends and out of towners. All of their meats are great but idk what they do to their turkey. It's always juicy and has an amazing flavor. I also make sure to buy their BBQ sauce to take home. Truly one of my Houston gems.

I was in town for a convention and we had worked all day and built up wuite the appetite. I had on my list to get some BBQ while in Houston. I wanted a place that had the meat combo and sides and Killens had many options. I hot the jalapemo link Pork BBQ, and brisket. I also got some potato salad and baked beans. The sausage was the star of my meats. I am somewhat spoiled for pork bbq as my family is from North Carolina so I have eaten at lot of that style over the years. The brisket was my least favorite and I wished I didn't get that. It was really wet and fatty. The sauce was good and the sides both very good. This is a dive BBQ place like eating at a roadside shack and pretty small. We were fortunate to get a table. It is counter service. They do have an extensive market here as well. It's worth a try if you're in the area and the prices were very reasonable.

I stopped by Henderson & Kane in Houston and tried the brisket, mac & cheese, and some ribs. Hands down, the brisket was my favorite--tender, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The sides were decent, but the barbecue itself really stood out. I was with a group for work so we got plenty of photos. Customer service was friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Just note that this is more of a store/pick-up spot than a sit-down restaurant, so don't expect a full dining atmosphere. Still, if you're looking for solid Texas BBQ--especially brisket--it's definitely worth a visit.

We came here on our last day of Houston and we truly saved the best for last. Even though we got the food to go, it was one of the best BBQ that we had during the trip, and we hit quite a few places during our stay. The sliced brisket was one of the best, goes so well with the mac n cheese, the middle of so soft it melts in your mouth, combined with the slight crunch of the charred ends, all seasoned with the right amount of peppercorn and salt. I'm getting hungry looking at the pictures again. We also had the coleslaw, and the chopped brisket sandwich. Chopped isn't as good as sliced, it wasn't as soft or juicy or flavorful, but it was still very very good. Also got the pecan pie to go, and it wasn't overly sweet like a lot of other pies were, with a nice contrast on soft and crunchy. Very nicely done

I honestly can't recommend this spot highly enough. As someone with a gluten allergy, I appreciated that their sauces are gluten free and they were knowledgeable about what I could eat on the menu. The service is phenomenal, and we were even offered samples. The restaurant also has a store inside of local goods. I will be dreaming about those bbq nachos - just divine. And enough to share...or not

I absolutely loved this place! I came here for the weekend brunch and thought the store was super cool with a lot of unique things for sale. It is very quick service which was appreciated, and the food and coffee were excellent! Their homemade biscuits are top notch! There is plenty of street parking as well. Overall, I can't wait to come back and try the BBQ.

Came in on a Sunday afternoon feeling peckish. Place is a mixture of general store and bbq joint. Food 5/5: ordered their combo and got the smoked turkey and fatty brisket as they were out of the pork ribs. Also got Mac and cheese and their sweet potato and kale for sides and a boudin link. Brisket was amazing, as good as anything I've had in houston. Turkey was good, wasn't as moist as I would hope for top tier but wasn't dry either. Sides were all excellent Ambiance 5/5: part bbq joint, part general store, very folksy charm and experience. Had a great time perusing the store afterwards Service 4/5: very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Forgot my link but food comes out fast anyways so I just reordered it Value 4/5: pretty good price for the amount and quality of food given about on par with other bbq joints. Overall 4.5/5: good bbq and general store at a decent value plan to be back to try their pork ribs

My experience here is why I tend to not frequent BBQ places, I hate being disappointed. The barbecue sauce (the signature and regular) were not good at all. Neither tasted like BBQ sauce. One tasted like tomato sauce with seasoning and the other tasted like a vinegary Tabasco sauce. The brisket was okay, nothing super impressive but no complaints. The queso might have been the most egregious issue (after the BBQ sauce) imagine paying $11 for tasteless, unimpressive, liquid cheese. Nothing in it but cheese and prayers. Adding the brisket (1/4lb for ~$9) along with a variety of other seasonings, made it okay. Ironically, reheating it after a few hours made it actually taste a bit better (enough to justify the price? Absolutely not). The mac and cheese was equally tasteless. One thing I think the Pit Room does EXCEPTIONALLY well is making pickles! These were delicious, seriously I'd go back just for the pickles (only the pickles).

The way the place is laid out, you go in, hop in line, and then claim a table after paying. A science specifically says not to hold the table before paying because it's unfair... First time I have seen a sign like that, but I get it. Honestly I was expecting just a sprinkle of brisket on top of the mac, but it was a hefty amount, and WOW WOW was it good! I added both of the homemade sauces to my food so I could taste the differences. The kick was nice, but I really did love the sweeter one. The sausage was good too, but I wish I got the jalapeno cheese one. I had opted not to since I already had so much mac and cheese. As if the barbecue wasn't good enough, they had a bar with a really friendly bartender who is eager to give city recommendations. It was thursday, and they had tequila deals, including some very strong $6 margaritas. We only did one round, and that was all we needed. We were also able to watch the World Cup game there. Our order didn't actually take that long. Or maybe it took a little while and we didn't mind waiting. Either way, it wasn't that bad! Luckily it's located in a shopping area so there's always parking. My main gripe is that they close at 7pm. I'm sure there's a good reason for that but I've wanted to try it multiple times before but they've been closed! I ended up going with the infamous brisket and fried rice. The brisket was super tender - I was able to pull it apart with my fork. I typically shy away from brisket because usually it's tough. But this was delicious - tender and had a nice smoky flavor. Not overwhelming or too salty. The rice had a great flavor too. There were chunks of meat in that as well and the rice had a nice smoky flavor. Not too salty or greasy. It also came with some accoutrements - pickled onions, fresh pickled cucumbers, jalapeños, bbq sauce and bread. The cucumbers and onions stole the show - very fresh and refreshing. We were surprised at the pickled onions - they were soo good! Overall - worth the hype! I'll definitely be back to try ribs, chicken or pulled pork sandwich. I heard everything is good here!!

Not sure if the ac was struggling bc of this Texas heat or what but other than that, food was excellent and we definitely will be back. Highly recommend!

You can ask to see the piece of rib before they cut it for you and they will happily oblige (patrons behind you might not be so thrilled with that move, but they'll live). Sides were excellent as were the mashed potatoes with white gravy on the side, green beans that were just tender enough, but also a bit crunchy. Perfect. They were seasoned with pork, so if that's not your thing, you might want to skip it. We also ordered their shareable onion rings, easily enough for three people that were huge, hot, and crispy. Let's get this out of the way, some of their prices are a little up there, but if you're anything like me, and don't frequent BBQ places often, it's a rare but enjoyable treat. Sometimes you have to splurge and live a little. Also, they have their regular sauce on tables, but you now have to ask the cashier for their sublime coffee BBQ sauce. Don't be shy, ask. It's worth it. Oh, pro tip: If you want beef ribs, the 'plate' is actually cheaper and a better deal than 'by the pound', so save a little money and get two sides.

The restaurant is cute and they do their best to keep the service consistent throughout the entire visit. The BBQ was a little dry but good. The disappointing part of the trip were the sides. 95% of the sides had pork in them which made the entire wait not worth it. This was my first time visiting and it will be my last.

Visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. I was not sure what I wanted to try, so Sam, the owner, gave me a sampling of everything; brisket sandwich, spare rib, potato, salad, coleslaw, beans, macaroni and cheese, jambalaya rice, and french fries. Everything tasted better than expected, especially the french fries, as few BBQ restaurants are able to get these just right. I will definitely return tomorrow to try something new. Definitely ordering the macaroni and cheese and potato salad again. Special thanks to Sam, the owner, who definitely took care of me. He knew I was from out of town, but treated me like a long time customer, which I greatly appreciate. Give this place a try... You will not be disappointed!

The ribs were nice not dripping with fat, but not dry either. The brisket was moist and very tender. The potato was super loaded with cheese, butter, sour cream, bacon bits and sprinkled chives. This place is next to a gas station, but not attached to the station shop. The restaurant is very clean, and everything looks brand new and spotless.

The counter service keeps things moving while the food speaks for itself. The brisket was exactly what you'd hope for: a pronounced bark, a rendered fat cap, and slices that held together until they were pulled apart. The surprise for me was the brisket taco. Instead of feeling like a gimmick, it showcased the meat in a different way, balancing smoke, richness, and fresh toppings without masking the brisket. Good barbecue restaurants know their sides matter just as much as the meat. The mac and cheese was creamy, the sausage had a satisfying snap, and the house barbecue sauce complemented rather than covered the smoke. If you're visiting Houston, this is the kind of place that reminds you why Texas barbecue has earned its reputation. Efficient counter service, excellent brisket, and enough menu variety to keep you coming back.

Also ordered turkey sandwich and 2 tacos , one beef and one pulled pork. My favorite thing was the fixings bar. I seriously felt fomo when I saw the food being made. The portions seem small to me. We enjoyed the food though. I did not like the pulled pork taco, maybe because it got soggy. I would like to try some other items and also their dessert.

The restaurant is always clean, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the owner is extremely kind and down to earth. They also have a nice dine-in setup with tables and a lounge area, which makes it comfortable to sit and enjoy your meal. So far, everything we've tried has been delicious--the brisket smash burger , chopped brisket melt, and different bowl variations have all been excellent. Our order has never been wrong, which I really appreciate. Because I'm me lol, I asked, and the owner let me attempt to create something. I tried chopped brisket and cheese on my fries, but something was missing. I think if I paired it with their smash burger sauce and caramelized onions, it would be (I don't even like onions like that, but they were so delicious). We've also tried the BBQ brisket egg rolls and tamales from their frozen section, and those have been just as enjoyable. Overall, it's a great spot with consistently good food and genuinely great service. We'll definitely continue coming back.
