My only gripe is because what they offer is so unique, it must be perfectly presented to the customer to fully understand the offerings, Besides the manager David(assuming), knowing how to perfectly sell, his team needs to as well. I personally just felt a disconnect when I asked about the offerings, and choices that went with them. Tupelo Hot Honey Chicken Sando was the best chicken I've had in a very long time. I got the deviled eggs to start with the candied bacon, and they were DEElicious. Creamy and sweet. The bacon was not chewy, but the right texture to bite through for a two-bite egg. I wasn't sure about my side item, but ended up getting the cole slaw after a small taste. It was rich, creamy, and fresh. The sandwich was thick, juicy, sweet, and crunchy! The pickles and the mango slaw was there in just the right amount to balance the heat. The bun was soft and pillowy and held everything together, even if it was drippy. I will be thinking of this sandwich for a long time to come. Service was friendly and quick. The booth and the place were really cute and modern. This seems to be a popular place, so beware that there might be big, loud parties going on. I love fried chicken - always have from those days growing up when Popeye's still served dirty rice. I also love hot chicken since I had Hattie B's in Nashville. My first introduction to Tumble 22 was for a friend's birthday. We were out and still hungry, so we went here. Even better that it's close to home. Parking is limited to under 20 spots - on the side and towards Center Street which is dimly lit at night. The Houston Ave. location has plenty of table seating and a large bar area. Service was great for a group of six people. We asked our server if the manager could sing happy birthday for our friend. He actually came out, brought a Texas pecan pie and we all sang. It was good, but I ordered the chocolate cream pie which was phenomenal. I ordered dirty fries which had pulled white chicken, queso and pickles. It was ok, but I thought the chicken was a little dry cut up, and the fries weren't that great. Would work better with fat fries than skinny with all the toppings. Since then, I've had their chicken bites and mac-n-cheese at an event at the zoo for Feasts with the Beasts. The Mac-n-cheese was so memorable that I also ordered twice from the Houston Ave. location. This time I tried the 2 pc boneless thighs and then 1/4 dark and upgraded for two thighs instead of a thigh and leg. The hot was good enough for me and had great flavor. I like spicy chicken or spicy food in general but not at the expense of losing my taste and having everything taste bitter. The bread it comes with gets soaked in that spicy oil. I'm not a fan of the bread-n-butter pickle because it's sweet. I prefer sour pickles. I highly recommend the dark meat over white. The chicken was hot, juicy and had crispy skin. The 1/4 dark bone-in thigh was large, and they didn't skimp on the size when I upgraded the leg for it. The boneless thighs were just as good even though the pieces were smaller. It was still filling. Both times I chose the mac-n-cheese. With the 1/4 dark combo, you get two sides, so I doubled up. The cheese is so good. It's a white, thick cheese over cavatappi spiral pasta. Eventually, I'll try the sandwiches. The O.G., Lil' O.G., and The Southern sound appealing. There's also milkshakes, salads, deviled eggs, and chicken Korean style with gochujang. If you like homemade pies, hot chicken (can also get it without spice) and mac-n-cheese, check them out! I was honestly disappointed with my experience at this establishment. From the moment I walked in. The sign clearly says "wait to be seated," yet there was no hostess at the front. After waiting for a few minutes, I eventually seated myself. Unfortunately, the service only went downhill from there. The bartender showed little to no situational awareness and didn't acknowledge me for about seven minutes--only after I asked for a menu. As someone with firsthand bartending experience, I know how important it is to greet guests promptly and read the room. The restaurant wasn't even busy, there were only three people at the bar. I also had to initiate everything myself asking for a menu and placing my drink order. Typically, a bartender should engage guests, offer menus, and ask what they'd like to drink. Instead, it felt like I was an inconvenience. When the food arrived, I ordered greens and a half chicken. The portion was off--far more meat than greens in the bowl. When I brought it to the bartender's attention to see if it could be corrected, he simply walked off without responding, which was frustrating and unprofessional. To make matters worse, I was never checked on again, no follow-up, no offer for another drink, nothing. At that point, I lost any interest in staying. Your staff especially the hostess if there was one and bartender are the face of your establishment, and unfortunately, they did not represent it well at all. I've been to Tumbler 22 before and really enjoy their food--especially the fried chicken and collard greens--but this visit tonight (3/20/26 around 8pm) was extremely disappointing due to the service. I sat at the bar and was greeted with water, but after that, everything went downhill. I waited an unusually long time just to have my order taken, and the bartender never even asked what I wanted to eat. I ordered an Old Fashioned and then sat there watching other guests who came in well after me get acknowledged, have their orders taken, and receive their drinks before me. At one point, the bartender even told me, "I didn't forget you," yet continued serving others ahead of me. He made drinks for a couple who arrived 10-15 minutes after I did and served them first while I was still waiting. Meanwhile, my drink hadn't even been properly started. After waiting and being overlooked repeatedly, I decided to leave. I let him know not to worry about the drink and explained that others who arrived after me were already being served. This wasn't about being busy--it was about attentiveness and basic customer service. I've enjoyed the food here in the past, but this experience made me feel ignored and undervalued as a customer. Food & Drink - 5* The central theme here is chicken of different variety at whatever spice level one can tolerate (no pain, hot, mo hot, dang hot, cluckin' hot, stupid hot). And let me tell ya, I love spicy and.this place can bring it. I made the mistake of stupid hot once, I don't think I'll ever do that again. Whether it's sandwiches, salads, tenders, bites, bone-in - dark, white, mixed they can make it as mild or spicy as you want it. The dirty fries can practically fill one up if alone! They do have a simple cocktail and a full bar to go along with your meal. Service - 3* This is the primary pain point when visiting. I've had instances where the service was fantastic and the server very attentive, other times it's just painfully slow. Order takes forever to be placed, the food is a crawl at coming out, or even getting the bill slow. It just varies widely in my experience so YMMV. Cost - 5* The value is there! The drinks are reasonable and the food is well-proportioned to pricing. I know it's always subjective but I think they definitely know how to keep one coming back with not just quality meals but reasonable pricing. Overall - 4* The only reason I'm putting this one at a 4* is because it just isn't consistent with service. If they could get that worked out the place would easily be a 5* in my view. Tumble 22 has really good food... Almost perfect. Since it was my first time to attend, my buddy Vik and I were offered a sampling of the sides and a few pieces of chicken to sample the spice levels. That was quite nice and I thought I would get a level spicier than the dang hot. Vik had the Tupelo honey chicken sandwich and I had the quarter chicken Korean style hot. I also ordered the broccoli salad and collard greens sides. The sides were very good. The chicken was also tasty. I was a bit disappointed with the heat level, as it felt less spicier than dang hot. Stopped in here for lunch as a friend told me one of his favorite hot chicken places. Location to and from parking lot is slightly difficult with traffic. Heading north on Houston Ave you have to cut across traffic, but leaving and going south you just got to hope and pray no traffic is coming up from the from the underpass. It had 4 shot glass size servings of their slaw, collard greens, broccoli slaw & mac along with 3 nuggets of chicken with spice levels 1-3. Id have to say all items were pretty tasty and cooked very well on the chicken. Heat wise I needed to go up some. We split our order: Dang Hot Tupelo Hot Honey - had to add sides for extra money. (Collard Greens & Mac & cheese) This dish is very tasty yet level 4 dang hot spice was basically non existent...and weirdly the level 3 on the sampler was spicier. But again one was a straight piece of chicken and his had slaw and honey so it could be the combination of the items. Devon gave us sides of level 4 & 5 to sprinkle on the sandwich and it helped. Dang Hot dark 2 piece Korean style which comes with 2 sides. (Collard Greens & Broccoli Slaw) Believe when they say Korean style they are adding the gochujang sauce to it. Honestly the flavor and the chicken itself was moist and very tasty, but the skin not crunchy at all, not sure if the korean style is what caused it. Sides Collard Greens - typically I'm not a huge fan, but these were amazing. Bits of bacon and pulled pork in the mix was a great addition Mac & Cheese - loved the creaminess and texture but it had no flavor - spruced it up with the extra level 4 seasoning which did the trick. Slaw - if you like slaw you would like this one, nothing spectacular, but I don't think I have had a spectacular one. Just great in general. The server was super friendly from the time we sat down. He asked right away if my parents had been before. Tumble 22 is a chicken shop chain based out of Austin, but expanded out to other parts of Texas. The 6th Ward location is on Houston & Center, just outside of the metro part of downtown Houston. The main draws are their fried chicken and their chicken sandwiches. They use different flavor profiles to create sweet and savory offerings. They also have monthly offerings which vary with the season. For example, the current special is the Stuffed Dipper OG, which includes stuffing, cranberry sauce, Duke's mayo, and some gravy dipping sauce. The filet is huge and crispy. The gravy is a great compliment to the sweet and saltiness of the cranberry and chicken. You also have control of the spice levels of almost all of the entrees, with 6 different levels. I also ordered their deviled eggs, which are 6.00 for 5 eggs. They each come with a piece of crispy bacon, and also come with the choice of spice level. I chose the 2nd level of Hot. They were creamy and delicious! They have a good variety of sides including, fries, greens, slaw, potato salad, and mac and cheese. I ordered pickup and it was quick. They have a window on the side of the building off of Center, and you just have to ring the bell. My order was placed online and the time quoted was spot on. The deviled eggs, you can choose spice level so that added a nice kick to those as well. I ordered to go and this location has a specific to go and online pick up area outdoors The parking lot is big! I have to give this place a rave review because from the service to the food, they won me and my party of 3 over. Had friends over to the new apt and we wanted a nice afternoon lunch (nothing fancy, but good). Found Tumble22 searching the Internet, everyone said let's try it and off we went. We arrived at this location, was greeted and sat immediately. Place was not super busy but was not empty either. Our Waitress Maria was the best. So engaging and walked us through the menu and and gave us her favorites. She made our lunch here so much fun and set the tone for our wonderful lunch. She is a blueprint on what waiters and waitresses should be. We enjoyed everything we ordered. From the Mac and Cheese, beans, coleslaw,greens,and French fries. You must try the Szechuan fries. I did not think I was going to be impressed by them. But the flavor profile will blow you away. Let's say the szechuan mustard sauce has a surprising kick and flavor that we love. The wasabi and cilantro flavors hit you in all the right places. I would have these ever time I come here. The Heavenly Eggs are so good too. The sandwiches are very good to. The buns are nice and soft and the chicken has 6 different heat levels to choose from starting with painless all the way up to stupid hot. I chose #4 (damn hot) which was a nice enjoyable heat that did not take me away from me enjoying my food. I had The Southern (very good), the one recommended by Maria was the Tupelo Hot Honey (amazingly good). So many flavors popping in the Tupelo, it does not disappoint. The Korean Style O.G. was another good one. The blood orange margaritas are so good. It's a well balanced frozen margarita and strong to. Don't leave without having dessert either. The Pecan Chocolate Toffee pie is a winner. The buttermilk pie is good too but have it at room temperature, I don't recommend it cold. I will definitely be back and thank you Maria for making our Saturday outing even more pleasant and enjoyable. read more

This is my second time coming here, and the service is honestly so great and memorable here. The first time I went, they gave us a free sampler to try the different sides and spice levels of the chicken. This time, they let me try an off the menu spice that was one level hotter than the hottest spice on the menu. I think it was the Carolina reaper. The ambiance is also cool, and we like sitting at these booths that are in the center of the restaurant, so it feels really open. The food itself was super yummy, especially the sauce on the korean OG sandwich. The pickles on the dirty fries also made that dish. read more

Tumble 22 is so amazing. They give you a sample platter if it is your first time so you can see what to try all the sides. They also got my friend a sample of the spices for the chicken. I love my burger and fries. It's so filling. There's plenty of space to sit and the staff is incredibly kind and accommodating. read more

If you are craving fried chicken then you have found the right place. The food is fantastic and the service is just as good. The deviled eggs with the bits of candied bacon are not to be missed. We tried the 1/4 chicken white. I loved everything we tried with the exception of the broccoli salad. This is a favorite and I didn't care for theirs. Their chicken and sauce are fantastic. The hot chicken had the perfect amount of heat. It does take time but all good things come to those that wait! This chicken is worth the wait! read more
