Champ Burger is an EaDo staple that I finally had the opportunity to check out for lunch. Coming on a Mon at 1230pm, this place was packed! Love seeing the lunch rush though because you know it's gonna be good. Ambiance wise, this place is very chill. No indoor area, just order at the counter, get 1 of their outdoor patio tables or take it to go. There was a line to order, but service was very fast. Burger wise, this place is just a well executed classic burger. Big, juicy, fresh toppings, honestly nothing to complain about. The onion rings were some of the best that I've had recently, and I ordered their "Texas size steak sandwich" to go as well for dinner, very filling. I'm so glad I finally took the time to try out this EaDo gem. I understand why they've been a Houston burger staple for so long now. Champ burger has been an Houston institution for many years. Near Downtown, the parking is pretty bad. Need to make sure you note the street signs. But it's definitely worth the journey. After trying a number of different burger spots it definitely wanted to come here again and make sure that it was living up to my previous experience. Just happened to get there at the right time there was nobody waiting and as soon as I placed my order and grabbed a seat, I turned around, and there was a line of approximately 20 people waiting to order. The seating is all alfresco. I ordered a steak sandwich with fries and a drink. The fried steak was tender and moist and the fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Visited Champ Burger for the first time , although I'm a native Houstonian. Let me say it's a winner. I called my order in and it was ready in 10 mins as advised. The burger was fresh with fresh ingredients. The onion rings were extra crispy and although they were very good, they had a much thicker batter than I like. I finally got the chance to Try this Houstonian establishedment while visiting the area for a work training. I visited during lunch rush, which it was pretty busy. I ordered a bacon cheese burger, fries along with a vanilla shake. I paid $20, for my meal. The burger was huge and they give you a good amount of fries. I had heard about this place in an article so I decided to try it on my way Northwest from the League City area. First of all, the trains in that area of town blow. There were a ton of stops everywhere. Good news about Eado is that you can work around it if you're quick enough and don't get trapped. An entire train was completely stopped and I was not for that. Parking was easy and you can pull up right in front. Loved the couple who took our order then gave it to us. Ate the fries on my way home and they were hot, crispy, potato-ey and appropriately salted. The burger reminded me of a Whataburger BUT the meat was thicker, tastier, and overall more delicious. I learned that they served breakfast but I was in the mood for a burger. Here's what you need to know- they take orders in advance. I mention that because there was a steady stream of customers that had already placed orders or were there in person before I arrived that morning. This place is popular. To do it right, I should have ordered a milkshake to go along with the lunch special of a burger and fries, but I wanted to keep it simple because it was so early and I don't usually start my morning off with heavy food. I ordered a burger "all the way" (mustard + mayo, onions) and then added cheese and jalapeños. From my first bite I felt like this is what local Whataburger would taste like. By that I mean, the crispness of the lettuce and onions accompanying you in every bite was incredible. The condiments were not too heavy -because I like mayo, I probably would have asked for a little extra. The burger itself wasn't heavily seasoned which I was okay with but it did have a few pieces of gristle which gave me a panic attack almost every time I bit into one because of my dental work. One of the things I smelled immediately upon getting my classic white paper bag was the scent of the fries. I could feel the warmth through the bag and couldn't wait to get to them. I wish they'd lived up tot my expectations. I felt like they could have used more seasoning and some didn't feel fully cooked to the perfect softness that can be achieved. But I had enough nibbles to be satisfied. If I were to go back I'd prioritize the child cheese fries and a milkshake. Chances are high I will go back. This place is an EaDo gem and I appreciate the random person that put me on. The lunch spot for champions. The special is more than enough and the fries are a top tier and can't wait to try the onion rings next time. The burger is great and they make small accommodations but no subs. The staff is definitely the family and are so sweet and the service is swift and you can tell they know they have a good thing and no changes need to be made. The burgers are pretty big, juicy, and very tasty . The fries were hot, fresh, and the perfect size, not too thin or too thick. The lady that took our order was very sweet and gracious, we enjoyed talking to her while we looked at the menu. The outdoor seating was clean and well shaded. Life long Houstonian, first time visiting Champ Burger. Everything was full of flavor. Nice size bun and patty, plenty of veggies. Fries were seasoned to perfection, they were large enough that two people could share if they wanted. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, fries and a drink, cost $17. The portion size was more than enough. Overall, 4 out of 5 star rating. There is no dine in seating, only patio seating. No official parking lot, just busy street parking. The chicken fried steak sandwich was mine, it just tasted like a regular burger. Was hoping for gravy with the chicken fried steak but that's not how it's served. Taste wise it was ok. This spot had been on my list for a while now. I waited so long that the anticipation really built up. Once I finally tried it, I was not disappointed. I had the chicken fried steak sandwich and a side of onion rings. The sandwich was good 3.5/5, not great. The onion rings were great 5/5. This was a really good burger. I had a cheeseburger with bacon and jalapeño. Made to order. All toppings, bread and meat were really fresh. I didn't have to wait long I visited on a Friday probably after the lunch rush. They are not open on the weekends. It seems like it's the same staff so that's understandable. Breaks are needed for greatness. They have outdoor seating only with umbrellas. You can order from a pick up window or by calling it in. I guess this is beneficial if it's particularly busy. Order at the window and they call you when it's ready. There's some seating that is covered but if it's busy you might be standing for a bit. I thought the burger had a great char to it and was perfectly seasoned and cooked to a medium with a bit of pink in the middle. The fixings were good as well with a healthy chunk of tomato. Clearly still surviving gentrification, it's got a nice spot and an outside seating area with shade. It's a fast food concept; place your order, pick it up, and eat. Got their famous Texas sandwich (chicken fried steak patty) and a jalapeño cheeseburger. Both were alright; food quality kind of reminded me of a Whataburger mixed with a chicken fried steak at your middle school.
