Stopped here for dinner as we were waiting for family to arrive on a delayed flight to IAH. 3 star yelp review almost put us off, but the menu drew us in. And I'm glad we ignored the reviews. Our server was excellent, friendly, attentive, and he was great with our toddler. Brought him a balloon, extra chocolate milk and was very friendly indeed. Food wise, hubby had a grilled chicken salad with honey mustard and cleared his plate. Portion was huge, and even he struggled to finish it. Toddler had chicken fingers and fries (don't judge, rare treat!) and it came with strawberry-Apple sauce. Portion was huge, kiddo devoured it, and it was cooked quickly which matters when waiting for food with kids! My buffalo chicken bites and fries were delicious, plentiful and tasty. This is a nice little place, I'm not sure why they have bad reviews but I guess everyone has 'off' days. This is a down home Southern style restaurant. Think nice diner. Everything from nachos, burgers, sandwiches, to several fish dishes- catfish, salmon, shrimp, to steaks, various chicken dishes and of course chicken fried steak. My server Felicia was very nice, and fast! I didn't wait long for anything and neither did anyone around me even as it got busy. First comes a wheat roll and cornbread with sweet butter. Omg. Then I had the chopped steak medium rare(cooked perfect), mash potatoes white gravy on the side(tried to be good) and baked squash. And I ate every little bit. The place is clean, nice decor. This was a nice choice for dinner. I walked in and I was greeted very quickly and warmly. I was given a table for 1 right away. Carlos (my waiter) introduced himself and asked to take my drink order. He returned with my drink and a glass of water with lemon, without my asking (+). He then took my appitizer and dinner order. Repeated it back to me to make sure he had it correct (+). He returned with warm chips and salsa, which needed salt (-). I didn't want to load up on the chips too much, because I knew I would have a large dinner of catfish and two veggies. My dinner arrived within 10 mins and it was hot and fresh with the exception of the (brocolli and cheese casserole) which had been sitting for awhile (-) nevertheless I ate it because it's my favorite. My family and I had three meals here because of some flight cancellations. Because we did not have a rental car for most of the layover we settled for the motel's offering. Meals were all good. It was two dinners and a breakfast. Two of them were takeout and one was a sit down in the restaurant. The last meal we had was the sit down. Everything was good with the chicken and pasta. I did have to ask them to warm it up a bit. They wait staff was casual about it and promptly heated it to satisfaction. The waiter actually brought more sauce which I did not need. We arrived at Good Eats Grill at around 6:15 p.m. and only a few people here. We have never been here before and was very surprised at how Plush and Quiet this place is. Very Nicely Decorated. We were shown to our booth in a nicely, cozy little room that was not packed with tables & booths. We Love This. A lot of places would of added more tables in the center, here you are spaced apart from the tables. The Hostess that seated us informed us that our Servers name was Carlos. In just a minute, Carlos arrived at our table and asked if we would like to order a drink. We both went with the Homestead Frozen Margarita, no salt. While those were being made, we browsed over the Menu. They have a Wide Variety to choose from, and the Wife is leaning towards their Chicken Fried Steak. Friends have told us that they have the 'Best Ever', and they are Huge. (everyone makes this claim, and there are a lot of places that have really good, tasty C.F.S.) When Carlos returned with our Margaritas, he also brought a basket of Corn Bread with Soft Butter. My Wife ordered the 'Chicken Fried Steak'; Fork Tender, well Seasoned Steak, Hand Battered, Deep Fried, with Rich Cream Gravy on the side (choice), with a Dinner Salad & Ranch Dressing. Ordered a side of Green Beans. I am having their 'Ranchers Ribeye'; (med rare) 12oz USDA Choice-cut Ribeye Mesquite-Grilled, delicately flavored with Garlic-Herb Butter. Comes with Loaded Texas Size Baked Potato (choice). Also order a Dinner Salad with Bleu Cheese Dressing. After we ordered, the first thing we tried was those 'Margaritas'...(when there is a Margarita on the table, you drink it, you don't let it sit there waiting) WOW, this is a Very Lime-eee Margarita with a Kick. It makes one 'Shutter' at first and you really like it. Great Flavoring with lots of Tequila, but not enough knock your socks off, but they do slip down a little...and that's a good thing. Very Relaxing. The Corn Bread is Very, Very Tasty, and I think there is a little Jalapeno in there. The Soft Butter is Thick, but Soft and goes Perfectly on the Corn Bread. We Toasted and Drank, Toasted and Drank some more and ate all that Delicious Corn Bread. Just as the Corn Bread was going away, Carlos brought out the Salads. They look Deliciously Beautiful..and one of the most Impressive Presentations you will ever see on a Salad. It has a Laced Doily on the Plate with the Salad Bowl placed on top, and the Salad is Beautiful. This place is very Quiet and you Love how you can carry on a conversation at your table and not hear the other people, even the ones next to you. When we arrived, very few people were in our area, and now there are more and it is still Quiet. There is a TV on the wall right near out table that is showing the Basketball Game with very low volume. Time for that Beautiful Salad. It is Very Tastylicious with Freshness throughout. The Red Onions are Fresh & Juicy with Warm Flavoring. The Lettuce is Cold & Crisp with everything being Deliciousness. The Croutons have a feeling of Just Made Crunch. We both agreed that this is one of the Best Salads any Restaurant could serve. Just as I finished my Salad, Carlos brought out our Food. My Wife's 'Chicken Fried Steak' is Huge and does look good. My 'Ribeye' looks Juicy and Delicious with a Texas Size Baked Potato. This is a Mans Plate. Steak and Potato. I'm Drooling and I haven't even tried it yet. My Wife said that her Chicken Fried Steak was the Best she has ever had, and it's no wonder. They have posted on their menu that their 'Chicken Fried Steak' was a Winner at the State Fair of Texas. I had a bite of it (okay, two bites), and it is really Tastylicious. My Wife said it is one of the Best Breadings Ever and the Steak cuts with a fork, perfectly cooked with great flavoring. Guess you can't get any better than that. Her Green Beans were very fresh and seasoned just the way she like them. My 'Ribeye' was very Tender, prepared Med-Rare Perfect, Juicy and Flavorful from end to end. This is a Very Tasty Steak. The Loaded Texas Size Baked Potato was not only Huge, but Delicious. Everything on this Potato was prepared properly and delicious. In most places, a Baked Potato is just a Baked Potato, but here is is something of an experience when you eat this Beauty. Everything about this was Deliciousness from the First Bite to the Last Bite. While we were enjoying all of this Food, we ordered another Homestead Frozen Margarita. It came right away and was as delicious as the first. Good Eats Grill not only knows how to prepare Delicious Eats, but Tasty Drinks also. Carlos was on top of has game Friday Night, did a terrific job with us and is great to talk too. While we were eating, more and more people came in and the place was still quiet. A reasonably priced dinner and cold beer. Easy to please. The staff was friendly and (mostly) attentive, and I attributed any lapses in service to the fact that it was so. darn. hot. in the restaurant. I'm not sure if the air went out or if they were paying homage to the sweat gods, but it was ridiculous. I had a roommate from Texas who used to keep the air around 60-degrees--these are apparently not the same type of Texans. The food was fresh and tasty, if not earth shatteringly awesome. Better than I expected but not the best I've had, if that makes sense. I had a chicken finger salad and the hubs had the chicken fingers tossed in buffalo (with okra). I tasted a piece of his okra and as I put it in my mouth, he said, "Some pieces are crispier than others. Rather, some pieces are crispy." But the bartender always had a smile on his face (as did the young woman who replaced him), and I left having enjoyed my dinner. The portions are generous and quality above subpar. The Cajun chicken was excellent, and perfectly cooked. The pot roast was also good, but had a disproportionate amount of potato to meat ratio. This restaurant is fairly close to the George Bush International airport. I was surprised that they had a buffet in there. Only had 20 minutes to get back to the airport & catch our flight. Also, we couldn't beat the price, the meal was included with our hotel room and we didn't even know until the waiter asked if he had vouchers. I had the chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. The steak was actually pretty thick compared to most places that pound them so flat, yet nice and tender. Tastes great, too. The mashed potatoes were clearly from scratch, and delicious. And the mac & cheese was nice and creamy, just the right consistency. Very, very good. My wife had the poblano chicken breast, broccoli, and green beans. She asked that they sautée the red onions, and they did. She loved everything. The broccoli was a tad less done than she likes, but most places serve it that way. We split the brownie and ice cream for dessert, and took a slice of cheesecake to go. It's filling. This place reminds me of Black Eyed Pea when I used to go with a friend often. He loved that place so that's where we went a lot. Good Eats is lots of starches and salty cooking. My colleague had the buffalo chicken salad, and I had the swiss mushroom chicken thingy. I enjoyed mine, and my friend's salad looked great. Personally for me, if a salad is my meal, I'd like some more tomatoes and veggies in it. I probably won't get that salad on any visit. Both were good. Cooked well and seasoned a little heavy on the salty side like home-style cooking often is. I've also had the Panini sandwich caesar salad, and chicken fried steak. Different visits of course. All of them were very good. I like the homemade croutons. The meals come with hot wheat rolls and jalapeno cornbread served to the table with soft sweet butter. I love that. Overall, it's the kind of place when you want to feel that fullness in your stomach from comfort food. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. And I wouldn't avoid it either. I had their "award winning" chicken fried steak for $12.99. I thought the fried steak was OK but their sauce didn't have much taste and looked horrible and gloppy. The brocolli spears were over steamed so that it was close to mushy. The worst part was the waitress started to sweep the carpet under the tables 2-5 feet in my area finding all sorts of food droppings. I was more concerned with her vigorus sweeping of raising the dust on the carpet. Granted it was 3pm...but she had plenty of other places to sweep and I was just about done. When I got back to work, and had the food passed out, we were missing the dressings for the salad, gravy for the chicken and the extra sour cream. I had to drive all the way back. Got the stuff no problem, but the now the food is getting cold and the salad is getting hot. Next, my grandpa who owns the place I work at, was eating his SALAD (which didn't have the dressing until I drove back to get it) was halfway done when he bit into a PIECE OF CARDBOARD. My wife ordered country fried steak and it was the baby back ribs for me. The country fried steak was over cooked that it made it so hard for my wife to chew. After eating a few bites, her jaws started to hurt. My baby back ribs was just regular ribs that they trimmed to make it look like baby back ribs. I can tell by how big the rib bones were. Took 40 mins, at a not full restaurant, to get the wrong order. When I went and found my waiter to tell him, he said he knew and to give him 5 mins to get a new one. So clearly he knew when he gave it to me it was wrong and just didn't say anything. Waited another 15 mins to get the correct order which the steamed broccoli side was cold. Between this and then waiting to pay-didn't have time to talk to a manager- I was now late for class. An hour should have been more than enough time.
