I mean does this place need another review to say how good it is?! lol I know others have said it, but the brisket so so good. When I return to visit Texas, I will be back to eat here again. All the staff was super friendly and welcoming. Getting those little samples too Yum I completely regret not buying the bigger container of the banana pudding because it was so good. Warning tho, be prepared to wait. We didn't mind the wait but it started to rain and we were like but all was good.
Truth BBQ lives up to the hype. I got the brisket, turkey, and jalapeño sausage, and all three were on point. The meat speaks for itself, but the sides are what really round out the meal. The tater tot casserole was the standout for me. Genuinely one of the best things on the table. Texas BBQ without sweet tea isn't Texas BBQ, and they deliver on that too. This is the best Texas BBQ I've had.
Truth BBQ is hands down the best BBQ I've ever had. Yes, there's usually a line, but the wait is absolutely worth it. The staff is incredibly friendly, offers free samples while you decide, and never makes you feel rushed despite how busy they are. The portions are generous, the quality is outstanding, and you get more food than you might expect for the price. Be sure to try all of their sauces! If you're debating whether the wait is worth it, trust me: it is.
Was told this is one of if not the best BBQ in Texas/Houston area. Definitely did not disappoint. Lines are always long no matter what time you come(I got there 2:30) but it did move. They do some specials each day but I went with three meat plate with two sides. Speaking to a regular in line and she mentioned that turkey is great and tater tot casserole. The ribs particularly were incredible, literally fell off the bone. They offer sauces at the tables and dessert which was too much for me at that point but look fantastic. Employees working there were super nice and the dining area had a cool Texas feel to it. Bring your appetite and leave home any vegans
I thought the tater tot casserole & brussels sprouts were fantastic. Definitely some of the best sides at a Texas BBQ spot. However, the meat was just okay. The brisket (even from the point) was a little dry. The ribs were also not memorable.
Came here right when opening to avoid a line and found the experience to be okay. The flavor of the brisket was good and it had the ring you'd expect, but the temperature was very lukewarm. The tatertot casserole was interesting and the corn pudding was my favorite side! The brussel sprout were okay, a tad sweet for my palette. The house sausage was seasoned well and had a good snap to it, but similar to the brisket the temperature was also very lukewarm. Overall, I'd say it's okay. I think there is better bbq to be had in Houston probably. I wouldn't be back on my next trip to Houston.
I'm visiting Texas with my dad, he thinks this trip is about "learning the different cities." I'm here for BBQ. We showed up around 6pm and hit a 30-minute wait, which felt fair. Ordered about 3 lbs of pork ribs and half a pound of brisket. Let's start with the miss, I asked for fatty brisket and got mostly lean. That's not a small detail, it's kind of the whole point. The lean brisket lands around a 6, solid enough but lacking the richness you want. The few fatty pieces we did get were much better, around an 8, and honestly would be pushing a 9.5 if they were served hot. The ribs are where things get frustrating. Flavor, great. Texture, exactly what you want. But they came out warm, not hot, and that matters. If these ribs were served properly hot, they're easily a 10. As is, they drop to about a 7, which feels like a missed opportunity more than anything else. Cole slaw was a surprise standout, fresh, balanced, easy 9. The baked beans were pretty good as well, maybe slightly sweeter than my taste, but still solid, an easy 8. Service was genuinely good. At one point my dad mentioned needing silverware, and a staff member overheard and brought it over without us asking again. Small moment, but it stuck. All in, this is a place that's very close to being excellent but misses on execution in ways that are hard to ignore, especially at around $130 for two people. If I could land at a 3.5, I would. But factoring in value, this comes out to 3 stars.
WOAH so delicious. My friends and I waited on line for probably 45 minutes on Valentine's Day AND in the pouring rain (there is a cover for the patio/outside line area so we were fine). I'd still say worth the wait. The food is prepared quickly once you get to the front of the line. with the meat freshly brought out and the sides at the counter, ready to be scooped into the serving size. The brisket was very good, although I'm not typically the biggest beef fan. Dare I say the turkey meat was the the best turkey Ive ever had in my life??? I had no idea barbecued turkey would be this good. wow. All the sides were delicious; Truth BBQ was great and I highly recommend for anyone visiting Houston!
The line was out the door when we came by on a Sunday afternoon, but we decided to wait b/c when in Houston, we had to try this spot. My husband and I split the 3 meat plate with ribs, brisket, jalapeno cheddar sausage, tater tot casserole, mac & cheese, & we got a side of Brussels. Everything was delicious but the brisket was my fav. Worth the wait!
Truth be told, Truth BBQ was just okay. Maybe you BBQ aficionados just have a different palate than myself, and that's okay, but I personally couldn't justify the 40 min wait. I was super disappointed that beef ribs are Saturday only! BOOOO! While you wait, they do give you a little sample of brisket once you make it to the front. The sample was super tender, so we ordered a 2 meat plate with brisket and pork ribs, as well as an additional 1 meat plate for extra brisket. Each plate comes with 2 sides, 2 slices of bread, and they also give you sides of pickles, pickled red onions, and pickled veggies. I really loved how colorful and full all the sides made the plate. Pickles are a nice way to cleanse the palate between bites! I personally do not care for sliced bread that isn't toasted, however these were very soft and fluffy, so my daughter ate one whole one. Our sides of choice were the tater tot casserole, corn pudding (basically a creamed corn casserole), potato salad, and baked beans. The sides are where it's at! The selection of sides is what brought me to Truth over all the other BBQ spots in the first place, so I was happy they didn't disappoint. Both the tater tot casserole and corn are a bit mushy, but I personally love that texture. The baked beans were soft and sweet, and the perfect complement to the other savory potato sides. BTW The potato salad gets topped with bacon bits! I asked the man serving the pickles if I could have a little extra bacon, which he wasn't stingy about at all, so I def appreciate the customer service! The pork ribs were tender but nothing to write home about. The brisket was super tender where the fat was, but pretty dry on the bottom half. They have 3 bbq sauces on the table (brown, yellow, white) and I didn't care for any of them :( Their drink selection is large, ranging from fountain drinks to lemonades to frescas. The mango fresca was my fav, followed by the strawberry watermelon! There were people walking around clearing the trays off tables, as well as a man walking around checking in with the customers and asking how things were. Everyone we met with was nice and friendly, and we appreciated the vibes. Right before you pay, there is a whole case of cakes and desserts. The cake slices are COLOSSAL so of course I had to get two to try lol Both the chocolate cake and carrot cake were bomb! The cake itself is so moist! I am a carrot cake girly and lemme tell you, I've had my fair share of carrot cakes. This one is by far one of the best I've ever tried! The cream cheese frosting actually has a cream cheese taste! It's smooth and slightly tangy. Absolute perfection. The cake itself has hella chopped nuts and carrots but no raisins, coconut shreds or pineapple pieces. Just the way I like it! The chocolate cake was also good, but I'm just not a chocolate girl the way my daughter is. With a glass of ice cold milk though, I would demolish that thing. Overall the meats wouldn't bring me back, but the cake would! Lucky for me, there's a separate door just for the bakery if that's all you're looking to get.
This place does get pretty busy and the parking can be challenging. They have this window where you can see the staff seasoning the meats. All of the staff were friendly and upkeep the place really well. They give out samples of the brisket at the counter which i thought was neat. They had moist brisket, turkey, banh mi, sausage, and more. The variety of the menu is pretty unique for a bbq place. The inside is very spacious compared to other bbq places. They even had a bar around the corner. I tried the jalapeño sausage which had a little kick to it and I think some cheese. Then I tried the moist brisket and that was fatty and juicy. The ribs were also pretty soft and had a crispy outer layer. The Brussels sprouts were nicely cooked but not too heavy on flavor. The corn pudding was basically like a corn bread but with pieces of corn in it and tasted a little milky and soft. I would definitely recommend this place for their brisket.

We arrived around 4:45 on a weekday & there was already a line forming--always a good sign. We ordered the 2-meat plate (brisket & pork ribs, w/ mac & cheese & corn pudding) annnnnnnd then added another 1/2 lb of brisket plus the tater tot casserole & brussels sprouts because life's short and everything's bigger in Texas. My mama always said my eyes are bigger than my stomach... and she was right. I left in a full-on food coma for many hours. The 2-meat plate alone (especially with sides) is more than enough to share for two. Ambiance is nice and clean. There's outdoor seatings & they have everything you need. Verdict: they take their BBQ seriously. The brisket was tender, melt-in-your-mouth good, and the ribs had a deeper, smokier flavor. I'd probably pass on the mac & cheese next time, but the rest of the sides were solid. The tater tot casserole is a must, & the brussel sprouts were surprisingly really good--plus it makes you feel better like you got yo veggies in. 4.5 stars for me. Would be nice to have some more side veggie options & the ability to double the same type of protein for the 3 meat plate. The brisket was a tad on the dry side. Overall solid spot!

Texas BBQ is always a must when visiting Houston, and Truth BBQ is one of my favorite spots. Truth is usually packed with a long line of people waiting to get inside to order. Thankfully, there was no wait when I came by, and I was able to get my barbecue within 5 minutes. Staff is always amazing, and the restaurant is clean. Lots of seating both inside and outside. I ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket and a side of coleslaw. The brisket is so delicious here. It's juicy, tender, and pairs perfectly with the barbecue sauces they have on the table. The yellow mustard sauce is my absolute favorite. When I lived in Houston, my house was stocked with this sauce. I didn't really care for the coleslaw when I went. read more
Truth The lines are not long at all, today. Such a class act. We interacted with at least four of the employees and each one of them was so friendly and so accommodating. ESPECIALLY Freddie who made sure all was copacetic. They even gave us a few little chunks of brisket to taste while we were in line. Hands down, the best BBQ I've had in Houston so far. Brisket is brisket- you either dry it out or you absolutely nail it. They nailed it. Perfectly juicy, tender, and packed with smoky flavor. But what really puts this place over the top is the tater tot casserole. Great sides can make the meal, and this one absolutely does. It's ridiculously good... like I'd happily eat an entire bowl of just the casserole. We ordered the brisket, pork ribs, beef rib, both sausages, and, of course, a whole lot of tater tot casserole. While you're waiting in line, they hand out samples of the brisket so you can decide whether you want lean or fatty. Fatty all day for me. The beef rib was massive and had an incredible smoky flavor, but low-key, I think the sausages ended up being my favorite meat of the day. They were juicy, flavorful, and didn't get overshadowed by everything else. We got there around 11:00 a.m. on a Saturday and waited about an hour in line. It sounds long, but they make it easy with water and drinks available for purchase while you wait. The staff was friendly the entire time- from the people managing the line to the servers and the bussers making rounds through the dining room. Ok, this was my number 1 BBQ spot, and I ate a lot of BBQ on this visit to Houston! The brisket was so tender, and the sides were great as well! Note that even the sides are all so spicy. Make sure to get some dessert as well. Tres Leches cake and banana pudding were off the hook! Protip - Order online and pick up to avoid the long wait. read more
We were in the area visiting a friend in the hospital and were able to check this place out before they closed on a Saturday. We have been wanting to try this since we saw the Texas Monthly list. I called when we were headed over and they said "they were sold out of everything except brisket and sausage." That wasn't a problem for us since that's what we were going to order. We got in line around 7. There were about 50 people ahead of us. By 7:20 they made the announcement they were just down to chopped brisket. Again, we were ok with that too. By the time we got our sandwiches, they were pretty much out of sides too. We tried the beans and the last scoop of tater tot casserole. The chopped brisket was flavorful. The sides were both good. The customer service was great. We will definitely be back at a better time to try more. read more
That burn't ends that they give away as a taster, DAMN THAT'S GOOD! Sell me that!! Ok, I normally don't give out 5 stars but this place is great! There was a little bit of a wait for us to get in but the staff behind the line was super friendly and let us try some of the meats, THANKS! Brisket was GOOD. I couldn't even pick it up with my fork because it kept falling apart. But dude.... The sides kept up with the meat! They were so good!!! Especially that Tator one! I have regrets I didn't get the big quart of that! Vibe and atmosphere was super chill. Probably because everyone was so happy enjoying their amazing food. That dude manning the tables was SO NICE! Would I go back? Hell yeah! This is my top spot for BBQ right now. I'm glad they are so far away. My waist line is appreciative of that. Can't wait to go back. read more

Delicious BBQ! Lines seem long, but thats just the tight entrance space. I didn't get it, but I saw the beef ribs and they literally look like a dinosaur's leg humongous. I got the jalapeño cheddar sausage. It's not spicy, but definitely flavorful. The brisket is just amazing. I love that if you're not sure what side to get they'll let you sample a little bit so you can decide. The corn pudding is so delicious but I get it. It's not for everybody. Brussels sprouts are a top choice as well as the mac & cheese. The tea is super sweet so I recommend doing maybe a half-and-half, but they also have other drinks to choose from. If you're a pickle lover, you're absolutely going to love their pickles and want them to go! read more
Got to Truth BBQ about 15 minutes after they opened and ended up waiting in line for around 20 minutes which honestly wasn't too bad considering how popular it is. A little disappointing that they were already sold out of the pepper jack cheese sausage.That said, the overall food was really good and definitely lived up to the hype. The portions on the sides were surprisingly large, which was a nice bonus. Even with a couple minor letdowns, it was still a solid BBQ experience and worth checking out. read more

Before visiting, I read so many great reviews about this restaurant and it truly lived up to its name! The brisket, ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage were so tender and flavorful! Their mac and cheese is a must! We never had tater tot casserole before and it was my husband's favorite side of the day! The corn pudding, brussel sprouts and coleslaw were just as amazing too. For dessert we tried the carrot cake and banana pudding and couldn't stop eating even though we were all so so full. Next time we visit Houston, we will be returning! read more

In H Town for the first time, and I came because this place was recommended by our Lyft driver earlier in the day, shoutout Trung! We got a sample of brisket in line and that itself was savory and delicious. We enjoyed all the sides but I must say the brussel sprouts were some of the best I've ever had. My least favorite meat was the pork ribs just due to my preference in smokiness but the brisket is a can't miss. We had an absolutely lovely time talking to Xavier and got surprised by Dom with desserts (the churro cheesecake was my favorite of the two, since it wasn't too sweet and the cinnamon wasn't too overpowering). It's a very casual establishment so you can come whenever the craving hits (after work or on your day off, treat urself!) We left with our bellies full, a new appreciation for Texan bbq, and flowers in our pockets. Thank you to everyone who keeps Truth BBQ running smoothly, and especially whoever is up prepping the meat at 2AM! 'til next time :) read more

The wait is well worth it! We had about a 30 minute wait to get to the counter to order but the staff was really kind and food comes out as you order so its a smooth operation. We got a couple of mixed meat plates and the daily special which was a beef rib with a couple of different sides. The restaurant does fill up quickly so even though there is lots of seating inside and some on the outside patio, it may be hard for groups over 6 to sit together. They do have high chairs for babies and the staff work hard to keep the restaurant clean. Overall our favorites were the beef rib, sausage, Brussels sprouts and mac n cheese! read more

Excellent BBQ, we had the Texas Trinity, brisket, ribs, and sausage. The flavors were deep and delicious. Sampled the three types of BBQ sauce. Only downside is the line forms before them open and parking is limited. Get here early, it is worth it. It certainly has a South Texas vibe. read more

Finally got to try truth and now I'm mad I waited this long!!!! Came about an hour after opening to an already 3 lane line. So parking took about 5-7mins to find. I stood in line for about 20 mins and we moved a few feet. During that time I met others who came all the way from Florida. At this point I remembered how serious it was. Saturdays are the beef ribs only day so I called to check if they'd still have some when I made it inside. The employee who answered let me know there were only 3 racks lefts and probably would sell out before an hour which is about how long they estimated based on where I was in line. I decided to play safe and just order to go as I was standing there. 37min wait time. My to go order did in fact beat where I was in line by a far. I moved to Texas 20yrs ago. I never experience the great bbq ppl speak of until this day. The beef rib was huge and worth every bit of the $40. It was seasoned to perfection, tender and didn't need any sauce. Even when reheating left overs. I checked other elites reviews before selecting sides. Glad I did because I wouldn't have chose the loaded tots or corn pudding. Everything was amazing. Beans too. Coming to Texas, I definitely needed to get my share of bbq! I heard about Truth in Houston and I came here on a weekday just before it opened at 11 am. It already had a line by the time I got there, but the line moved fast and there was a decent amount of seating. I had their 3 meat and 2 sides platter. For the meats, I had their brisket, pork rib, and pepper jack sausage. The meats were seasoned as I didn't even bother using ant sauce! For the sides, I had tater tot casserole and potato salad. Truth is one of the best barbecue in Houston. There is always a long line on the weekends. Just figured out that they are also open for dinner on most days and is bot as busy but food is as good. We ordered 1 lb of brisket (half moist, half lean), 1 lb pork ribs, jalapeño cheddar sausage and sides of coleslaw and baked beans. The brisket was the star of the show. You don't need a knife to cut it. It was basically crumbling on its own as you pick it up with a fork. Very juicy. Definitely a must order. My friends like pork ribs. They were surprisingly tasty and tender and fall off the bone. Jalapeño cheddar was a little spicy so depends on your preference. I personally like the level of spiciness and the cheddar combination. One of my go to items. Coleslaw and baked beans were complementary to the meats. Staff was efficient and friendly and didn't have to wait long. They cleared our tables as we finished eating. The restaurant is like a modern barbecue. Rustic but with a full bar with an outdoor area. If you only have time to try one barbecue in downtown Houston. This is it! read more
Ain't this the truth.. Wait time very reasonable (around 20 min for a Friday night at 6pm). Brisket cooked well, but the sausage and mac & cheese were my favorite. 4.5/5 This place has potential to be 5-star, but I wasn't able to try their signature beef brisket, so I'm leaving it at 4 stars until I try that. I was in Houston for 2 days as part of a stopover to Japan, and I had my friend take me to some of the best that Houston has to offer. Obviously being in Texas, a BBQ place is a must, and he took me to this place to try. There was a lineup outside of about 30 minutes. My friend said I came on a good day, as there's often lineups of over an hour. When we went in, I was disappointed to find out there were no sliced briskets left, only chopped. That's fine, I went with that instead with mac n cheese and corn pudding. It was excellent! The mac n cheese was creamy, and the chopped brisket had a lot of fat and juice...which I know some people don't like excess fat, but I was perfectly okay with it. The corn pudding was great as well, it's not something I usually find up north where I live. My friend decided to add a tub of brussel sprouts and asked me to try it. I'm normally a brussel sprouts hater, but oh my goodness...it was amazing!!! I don't know what kind of broth and flavours they added to it, but the brussel sprouts are definitely a must try here. It's over the counter service here, so don't expect much. However once you're inside it's quick serve and you're out in 30 minutes or less. Highly recommend this place! Perhaps in a future visit they would have actual sliced brisket. read more

Great spot! The brisket was tender and had just the right amount of smoke. The sausage was juicy and just the right amount of heat. The sides are fantastic. The Brussel sprouts and tater tot casserole are highly recommend. The staff is also VERY friendly. EAT HERE! read more
This is one of the best BBQ I have had. The only think I disliked was that I was not able to try everything. They sell the meats by pound and they do have specials. They cut the meats in front of you and just makes you drool even more. I got the 3 meat plate. I got the Brisket, Ribs, and Jalapeno cheddar Sausage. It also came with two sides. I got the mac and cheese and brussels sprouts. The brisket was soft and filled with flavor. It almost melted in your mouth. What impressed me more was the sprouts. They were amazing. Packed with favor. You can't go wrong with any of your choices. There was lots of indoor seating. It was a bit too hot to sit outside. Great music and the service was great too. I am glad i was able to try real Texas BBQ. read more

On average how long is the line around 11 or 12 on a weekday?
We waited about 30 minutes on a Friday. Got there 15 mins before open. Wasn't bad at all.

Yes on meats. But, only 4 of the sides - Brussels, Coleslaw, Potato Salad and Baked Beans.

The dining room was only closed for 2 months last year. It's been open ever since.

The lot is pretty spacious. It fits 50+ cars. The 2 times I've been, I didn't have an issue finding a spot. Then again, it will depend on what time you plan on grabbing some bbq. That goes for wait time, too. Expect to wait in line for 30…
