Hey y'all, I was so excited to try this barbecue place because I've been in Houston for three years and I have yet to eat barbecue. Coming from Chicago I just knew it was gonna be a tough call. Y'all know I give 100% true reviews. The food was definitely a 4 out of 10. The sausage was not good at all. The brisket was tasty. It just wasn't as tender. The rib was probably the best thing it didn't have too much flavor, but it was yummy. The macaroni was definitely a three out of 10 and the beans were also about a five out of 10. There really was no flavor to the meats. I'm a heavy cooker and I also love to barbecue, but I barely could taste the smoky flavor. We ended up not eating everything because it honestly wasn't that great however, my favorite thing was probably the rib in the brisket. I really was expecting this to be really good, but after conversing w/ a couple of other people, I heard that this is more like a Houstonian place. The service was great in the ambience was also great. They have a bar next-door that you can sit down grab your drink and go back and sit. Overall, I had fun in the experience, but I definitely are gonna have to give this a two out of five. Oh, and the barbecue sauce I'm gonna have to say no

For the amount of food that you get and the wait of the line, this place is well worth it. For 1 pound of meat with the dinner platter, and multiple sides, it only came out around $27. This is such a steal in comparison to some of the other big barbecue names in the area. The line itself also only took maybe an hour to get through. And again, at peak times, in comparison a lot of similar areas probably take more than two. Overall, though I think that the brisket wasn't as well made has some of the other barbecue places, but the sides were delicious. I had the mac & cheese and the green beans, and they were super flavorful and a good balance to the rest of the meal. For my meats, I got the brisket and the short rib. They were pretty standard. I think they would impress a non-Texan, but for me, knowing how brisket can taste, it wasn't as flavorful or tender. The structure of the restaurant is very do it yourself as well. Each meal also comes with a slice of bread, and there's an area in the middle of the restaurant where you can self serve sides. They have various pickled vegetables. Service was fast for the most part, when you got to the front of the line. The style is you tell the butcher how much you want, he weighs it and passes you down the line to get your sides. Inside only had around 20 people worth of seating. But the outside had a bunch of tables, which are open if it's not too cold to sit. I also know on certain days this restaurant also host trivia and opens its outdoor seating. Parking may be tight as the lot only has around 10 spaces. Street parking may be necessary in the nearby neighborhood.

I got the brisket and some sausages. Brisket were okay, nothing impressive. I thought they were on the drier side. The sausages were good. The sides bar was cool. Staff was friendly and cleared out tables quickly. This place has a good amount of parking and a lot of outdoor space. The inside is smaller.

Always on the quest to find good go to BBQ joints in Houston and I found The Pit BBQ on Richmond to add to my list. Upon arriving, the line was wrapped around the building which is a good indicator of something must be good inside to draw them in and I found out what it was. First, the service was first class. all the attendants were busy helping customers and helping with setup for new customers. Secondly, the brisket and turkey were the stars for me. The fat on the brisket was good to perfection and the smoked turkey was not only seasoned well, but it was extremely juicy and tender. Currently in my top 3.

I decided to try this interesting Texas BBQ joint while traveling on business. Despite a short wait in line, I enjoyed the two meat dinner consisting of brisket and pulled pork, with sides of Mac and cheese and Cole slaw. I added a delicious banana pudding desert and a nice, cold Shinerbock. Very ample outside seating and nicely decorated and pleasant ambiance. The service was excellent and I recommend this great BBQ restaurant if you're in the Houston area.

Breakfast tacos were soooo good. We tried the chorizo, jalapeno cheddar sausage, potato, and brisket tacos - omg they were all soooo good! Order ahead, bring to enjoy at a nearby coffee shop, and be happy eating some real good breakfast tacos.

Michelin Guide-recognized, and we only waited about 30 minutes on a Sunday at lunchtime, which felt pretty reasonable. The meat was incredibly tender with that classic slow-smoked texture that just melts apart. The chicken taco ended up being a pleasant surprise -- roasted garlic, melted cheese, and pickled onions all worked really well together without feeling overdone. It was simple, balanced, and just really satisfying. This was the BBQ we packed up to take on the plane ride home, and I'm glad we saved it for last. The spot itself was laid-back, with a big patio out back that made it easy to relax and hang out. This was the Texas BBQ I'd been hoping to find, and honestly, I'm still thinking about it two months later.

We came for dinner, and this was just amazing. It wasn't too hard to find seating, even though there was a line out the door. Everyone working there was super friendly, and ordering went super smoothly. We ordered the brisket with a couple of sausages and the beef rib. The brisket had really great flavor, nice smoke and seasoning, but I did think it was a bit on the drier side, but still flavored great. The sausages were very good. All this being said, the highlight of the meal was definitely the beef rib. We got the last one of the day, so it was a sign. This absolute dinosaur bone was one of the best things I've ever eaten. It was super tender and just melts in your mouth. If you get the chance to try it, I couldn't recommend this enough. My only comment is about their coffee bourbon BBQ sauce, I just want to have a talk with whoever came up with it... I would definitely recommend this place, especially if you can get your hands on a beef rib.

3 meat dinner beef brisket pork rib turkey with 2 sides

I found on Google due to our favorites being closed. I would not recommend this BBQ joint to locals or someone visiting Houston very disappointed wasted good money over all not good. We ordered 3 meat dinner with 2 sides a fountain drink. Total was around $43. The beef brisket was okay with a lot of very dried burnt ends, sliced turkey was dried and the pork rib did not fall off the bone! There was too much chewing not enough enjoying. I saw a table across from us another gal to be doing the same with her pork rib was tough! The charro beans had a horrible seasoning and i love beans of any type the mac &cheese was alright. We left within 35 minutes. There was a nice crowd. I will take them off the list to return. They don't deserve the1 star.

A true place i bring friends and family all the time to show them the real texas bbq! Food is 10/10, smokey and flavorful yet not too salty, everytime I come. Service is fast and efficient, so you gotta make up your mind before your turn. They got a huge menu but I would recommend getting the meat by pound so you can make your own sandwhich with the complimentary buns, and you can always take home the leftover meat and make more food at home like I made brisket fried rice it was so bomb. Something about overnight bbq just have more depth in flavors. This is their original location in Houston, tight seatings but cozy. Vibe is always crowded no matter what day and time you go, they don't have not many big tables for big families, I would suggest take out. Small parking lot too but they have street parking. The sausages are ok, just peppery and not much seasoning, but I highly recommend the rib and brisket. Meat falls off the rib bone easily, and briskets are evenly fatty and lean. Definitely pair with their pickled sides, it's a balance of flavors every bite!

The vibe was great, the brisket and turkey was tasty, chicken could use some sprucing up. The line moved really quickly!

Came here on a Thursday around 11:15AM and there were only 5 parties ahead of us. You order your item in the front, cafeteria style, and find your own seating. We were sort of confused on what to order but decided to get a bit of everything. We got the pork ribs, brisket, chicken taco, coleslaw, and elote. The pork ribs were perfect as the meat fell off the bone easily. It was also a tad saltier than what I was used to. The briskets were good but I felt like the meat wasn't as juicy without the fat. There were sauces you can use with the meat and I admit the bourbon coffee BBQ was my least favorite because it was too strong and sort of ruined the BBQ flavor. The chicken taco was also good but not the best. I wish they added some texture or something in it aside from just chicken and cheese. The coleslaw was delicious. It was fresh and wasn't too overwhelming with the mayo. The elote was honestly my favorite. It had the right amount of sauce, cheese, and crunchiness. Overall, I thought this place was good but I wouldn't say it was the best BBQ spot I've been to in Texas. There was a table in the restaurant that would drip water from the air conditioner vents. I didn't sit there but it was sort of unappetizing seeing the possibility of dripping into people's food. I felt like they could've had better seating arrangement knowing this was an issue. Small parking lot at the side of the restaurant.

Several broken cars across the street where they direct you to park. According to workers, this is a regular occurrence.

Is this place good for a group of 16?

There aren't really many tables that will accommodate a group that large, but if you are there on an off time, you can probably make it work if you sit outdoors and get a group of tables near each other.

    Do they take apple pay?

    Not that I know

Is there any option for halal/kosher meat?

Try Chuck Wagon in Fulshear for halal beef options. I believe Killen's beef in Pearland is sourced from a farm with halal beef.

Am I able to order the dinners during lunch time? If not, what time am I able to order?

    Yes

What days do they sell Okra? (Is it discontinued?)

Every time I have went it was there.

I'm planning to order take out to bring it back to NYC. I'm planning to use a conventional oven to heat the food. Does anyone know how long and what temperature I should get it at? Will order beef ribs, pork ribs, briskets and pulled pork.

Are they open on thanksgiving day?

Probably not. Best is to call and ask their holiday schedule for certainty.

Which days do they serve the Wagyu Brisket?

    Daily

Can anyone get the seafood on the weekends or is it only special order?

As long as you have the cash they have the crawfish.

Best time to go on a Sunday?

11am-12pm is the best time to beat the crowd. 12pm-3pm is cool if you don't mind waiting in line.

Anyone know if they are open this Wednesday (day after Christmas)?

Wanna try this restaurant so badly, and I have a flexible schedule, so I want to come when I can get the least wait time... when is my best bet? Thank you!:)

I have gone around 6pm on a Wednesday and didn't have a wait. Also right when they open at 11am is good. The line moves pretty fast even if there is a wait, and you may sit at the bar next door if the seating gets crowded.

Would like to bring an out of town guest here for them to get some Texas bbq, however I'm vegetarian... are the sides vegetarian friendly? The potatoes, Mac and cheese, etc?

Yes, you should have a few options. I highly recommend the corn (served with Mexican cream, queso fresco, and hot sauce), and the mac and cheese.

Do you offer military discount like Rudy's?

Yes, we do! Just show your military i.d. and the we provide your discount . Thank you for your service !

If we wanna reserve in advance for a table for 6? How is the wait during the weekend?

The lines were long but they moved quickly. Plenty of room outside on patio. Inside is a little tight. We had a party of 6 walked in on Saturday and found a table on patio

I've tried those deemed "the best," including Salt Lick in Driftwood and Killen's. So how did CorkScrew measure up? In addition to the beef rib, we tried the moist brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. We also tried several sides, including those recommended in the Michelin review: potato salad, mac and cheese, smokey beans, and coleslaw, and I picked up a peach cobbler, as well. The beef rib: STELLAR. This was outstanding with its flavorful bark and an impossibly tender texture that truly melts in your mouth, unlike any other beef rib I've ever had. Easily the very best beef rib, without a doubt. The brisket was delicious, as well: tender and flavorful. The sausage was nothing special... on par with sausage elsewhere, as was the pork. As for the sides, I've never been a fan of beans, but since the Michelin review specifically mentioned them, I gave them a try. I'm a fan! I would definitely order these again. Their smokiness is gently tamed by a touch of sweetness. The rest? Very average. The mac and cheese tasted like the stuff I had in my elementary school cafeteria - very un-special. The potato salad was salty and was missing any semblance of potato chunks. The texture was oddly like lumpy mashed potatoes. But the other surprise for me: the cobbler. This was simply and divinely perfect with crisp, sweet buttery crumble. A wonderful way to end a hearty meal. I'm so glad I ordered our food online for pickup. When I arrived at 1pm, the line was wrapped around the building. Pickup was very easy: I texted them when I arrived, and they replied when they were ready for me to go in and retrieve it. But even if there wasn't a line, I would never eat there: the restaurant is too divey for me: very rustic, picnic-like feel both inside and out, and it was uncomfortably warm and humid (again, inside and out.) The staff was very friendly and cheerful. Glad i tried it, and when i get a hankering for a good beef rib, this is definitely where I'll be getting it!

My partner had the brisket sandwich with potato salad and a small helping of pickles and pickled red onions and I had the pulled pork tacos. My partner said the brisket sandwich was okay, but we both agreed that the potato salad was fantastic! The potato salad was way better than the one at Pappas Barbecue. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.

Don't follow the menu!!! You can order any amount that you want. The ambiance is spacious...,they have a bar area and plenty of seating so you do not feel overcrowded. Parking is ample and no issue at this location. They do not sell Nachos, I just buy the meat for my homemade Nachos. lol.

The brisket itself was good, but next time I'd definitely request lean meat. The jalapeño sausage was the standout for me -- really flavorful and highly recommended. The cornbread and potato salad were both solid sides and complemented the meal well. The biggest downside was the BBQ sauce selection. The sauces leaned way too sweet for my taste. I tried the coffee bourbon sauce and personally did not like it at all. Overall, some really good food items, but the sauces were a miss for me.
