Food was just okay. Service wasn't great -- no greeting, just sat us down. The place feels dirty. The blinds by our table were covered in food splatters, window sills were gross, and the carpet smelled like it hasn't been cleaned in years. Everything feels neglected and kind of icky. A deep clean or new flooring would go a long way. read more

This place is not good place to go for foods. My daughter and I have to wait for an hours for our foods, then they bring the wrong food for the wrong table. Bother table come in after is and they good service first. This happen on10/31/2025. And then when I asked for my waitress. 1 employee's yelled at me. His manager and the waitress sorry for his action. But iam sure that they don't do fucking shit about it. That's good way to chase your customers out of your restaurant. Don't go to this black bear diner. The foods are not good , bad attitude ( asshole) employee. Manager never call me back.either read more

Breakfast always a good deal here with their portion. However today I noticed on their menu no seafood? We just got in on time and by the time we left waiting area is full again. Food is good as far breakfast haven't try any of their menus. 4/7/18 Suggested to my friends to have breakfast here. Last time I wanted to try the corned beef hash breakfast so I ordered it. I was little bit disappointed my food was lukewarm and it didn't taste yummy lI didn't want to complain and because I was the one suggested to my friends. Maybe it's just not a good morning at their kitchen! read more

Great breakfast spot, love the coffee and the service is great. It's pretty calm and family friendly.

I see now why this Black Bear gets so low ratings. While it appears to be popular, with lines out the door, service is extremely slow. We waited almost 25 minutes from the waiter taking our order, to food being delivered to us at our table, and 7 minutes from being seated. No water offered. I got a coffee and it was empty most of the time. The other thing that was most annoying was that we got a very small booth with a small table, and our salad came out right with our primary food so that there was no space left. I have no idea why the salad did not come right away and took 25 minutes for some lettuce and stuff to be put on a plate. Other places space things out so that if there is a long wait at least the customer is entertained with some appetizer. We saw our waiter a total of 4 times over the 1+ hour we were there. And there were errors with our order that due to the long wait to even get the food we decided to just not have fixed. They missed extra busy as well as we wanted another item, but also given the wait and the lack of seeing anyone that really cared, we skipped. The restaurant seems newer than the one I. Fremont, but service is not what I expected. We will be avoiding this one from now on unless given a reason to try it again. I would not recommend this place for breakfast, unless you don't care about time, service, and order goof -ups. read more

Customer service was good at this location. The only thing that I did not like and It made me uncomfortable is that they gave my mom and I and dirty coffee mug. The coffee mug they gave us had lipstick on them. That made me question if everything else was clean the girl that was helping us was really nice and she switched our coffees, but we had already seen the lipstick stains and it was just wasn't a good experience. read more

I go to Black Bear frequently like every full moon. Me and my boyfriend go here usually after 12am. Servers, is very kind, professional and they have amazing personality to keep you awake and feel grateful while being served food. I'm always grateful and tip 25%. Food is consistently good, I always order a Patty Melt with Parmesan Toast (5/5)!! The atmosphere here feels like you're in a local cartoon diner episode, highly recommend this place! read more

This was not bad for a diner open 24/7. Which is nice ! I got a country fried steak came with 2 biscuits and however you like your eggs and I also chose hashbrown. It was good! Very big portion I was able to save for the next day. They had coloring pages for the kids and a kids menu also comes with desert either strawberries and whip cream or a mini vanilla sundae. Hubby got a nice looking burger and some onion rings . Everything was pretty good! read more

Black Bear Diner - Country Chicken Fried Steak , Strip-Cut Hash Browns, kids burger, Shasta Cheeseburger, French Fries, Onion Rings , ranch dressing - Diners Near Me - Hayward, California

As good as it gets. 5 stars above Denny's. Their bisquit is made in house. Pancakes are fluffy... but the star of the show has to be their THICC cut bacon!!! Delicious... this is how bacon is meant to be... i'm not big on chain restaurants for breakfast, i rather eat at a local mom and pops... but the black bear does it right for me... fresh squeezed OJ? Good service.. the decor is always nice. It gives you that cabin in the woods feeling.. i like their news paper menus. If you're a tourist and don't have any black bear diners near you, the menu and a coffee mug is a good souvenier... 5 stars. No complaints at all... Black Bear Diner - Hayward, Ca read more

Clean restaurant. A bunch of indoor and outdoor seating. The food came fast and is served in large portions. I ordered the cobb salad. Yes the portion size was enough, but i feel like it used to be more avocado and chicken. My salad also had more of the white interior core of the lettuce than the actual greens. The food otherwise was very good. We also tried the bread pudding and it was delicious. read more

From my past experiences, the food and services are always good. The only problem was our experience with this server named "Darla". From previous orders we were able to get our cheese of choice when ordering a burger but she said no to ours and you can't do this/that on other orders that we were able to make customizations/selections in multiple past visits. She also messed up our order and missed a couple of orders. Seems like she's not happy with her job. This definitely ruined our dinner and as long as she's working there we won't be back. read more

i've been to this location twice and have been very pleased with each of my dining experiences. the restaurant is massive, tons of seating inside as well as outside on a covered patio. there is plenty of parking on the premises, never a problem finding a spot. i've never had to wait even as a party of 5. service was prompt each time, with ordering to delivery of food to receipt of the bill. since i've only been here for brunch/lunch my goto is the vegetarian omelette, which i always get with egg whites, whole wheat toast and a side of fruit. other side options include hash browns/potatoes and a biscuit...great for a heartier appetite! i really love the shelf at the front with various stuffed bears for sale. makes for a nice souvenir especially for travelers through california. read more

First time coming to this location, I am familiar with the black bear diner in Oakley... Arrived around 8pm on a Friday night. Not busy at all ! Seated right away , ordered , food came right out. Server was attentive, helpful , and good service. I ordered the meatloaf with side of seasonal vegetables ( broccoli and carrots) and mashed potatoes! I love their red-skinned mashed potatoes... meatloaf was just ok! Nice satisfying dinner. I once ordered the clam chowder and continued ordering soup rather than the salad that the dinner comes with. Meaning the clam chowder is pretty good! I went with my Bebe in her stroller, I didn't want to take up space in the restaurant and I am a new mom so if she cried I requested to sit outside ( so we wouldn't bother others ), but unfortunately the patio / outdoor seating was closed. Not sure if it's cause it was late or it's just closed off. But my babe slept through our dinner anyways and the service was quick we were almost in and out ! Would come again , probably try out something new on the menu read more

The Black Bear Diner in Hayward on Hesperian appears, to all intents and purposes, to be your standard Black Bear Diner. This one happens to be open 24 hours and, open on Christmas Day. To begin with, they were busy, but not overly so, and I was seated in under ten minutes. All the wait staff were decked out in Christmas-y sweaters, which gave things a festive air. My waitress, Jazmin, was possibly the best waitress I've encountered in I don't know when. She was friendly, attentive and beyond helpful. The Christmas specials, like the Thanksgiving ones, were turkey, ham or prime rib, with all the trimmings. I opted for prime rib this go-round, requesting it as rare as I could get it, attempting to avoid the dreaded well-done version. I opted for salad rather than soup. The salad is nice. As with most things Black Bear, it was large, with a good assortment of carrot shreds, cucumber slices and cherry tomatoes. Choice of dressing. Mid-salad, my entrée arrived, unfortunately, on its way to medium well, but I figured what the heck. Prime rib is often a crap shoot anyway. Jazmin appeared almost immediately, asking if things were okay. I did point out that the meat was definitely not rare. She said that with prime rib, it's almost always medium rare, to which I pointed out that this was well on its way to well done, but it looked edible, so I wasn't going quibble. She immediately offered to have it remade (Goodness!). Asking if she wouldn't mind, she whisked my plate away, while I went back to work on my salad. Within about 10 minutes, one of the kitchen workers came out with my new plate, explaining apologetically that it was as pink as he could get. It was darned near perfect, and I told him so. Jazmin came by shortly thereafter as well to double check, and bring me the corn muffin. Speaking of corn muffins, they can be so disappointing, but not this one. Still warm, soft, sweet and delicious. What Black Bear Diner is generally known for is down home American food and lots of it. My Christmas dinner consisted of salad (or soup), a decent piece of prime rib (or turkey or ham), mashed red-skinned potatoes with gravy, cornbread stuffing, green beans, a corn muffin and a slice of pumpkin pie. Including a soft drink, the total came to $40.00, pretty decent for a Christmas meal. Breakfasts there are also huge, as are their desserts. I had my pie packed to go and will snack on it later. What truly impressed me was the willingness to make sure that everything was to my liking, including the offer to remake the plate. I never ask for that, but took them up on the offer. Jazmin was attentive without be either overbearing or missing in action. This is an establishment I would recommend to others and one I will return to. read more

Guys this place had improved so much that I'm very glad it survived the pandemic! Now open 24/7 it's definitely my go to place when on a night shift! Everything I ever had here was really good and the portions are so big, you for sure will be full or need to take food home. They are usually very busy but the wait times aren't bad. They are located on the busy Hesperian street in front of Chabot College and are next to a Jack in the box. Parking is tight so just be careful backing up. I've eaten here many times and gotten take out a lot. All times with no problems or anything to complain about. read more

Havent been to a BB diner in quite sometime and we decided to stop after checking out the Chabot Flea Market. We arrived and there was a 10 minute wait. When the hostess called us, she sat us at a large booth. Ashley H introduced herself and was our waitress. I asked her for reccomemdations for the mimosa/michaelada. She gave us some recs and we went for it. The food arrived and was fresh and scrumptious. Despite being busy, Ashley always checked on us, asked if anything else is missing, clear plates etc. Highly reccomend. Kudos to Ashley read more

I just came for the chocolate cake and it was super stale and crunchy. Very disappointed, I couldn't even eat it.

The experience wasn't good our food was brought out to fast the vegetables with my country fried steak were raw and not cooked. Then while I was trying to salvage the rest of my meal, not only myself but other people eating were startled by a large barking dog inside of the restaurant. I can't believe they would allow animals inside the restaurant where they serve food to people. My milkshake was plain and boring. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy! read more

First off let me start by saying I hated going to black bear diner. I went once before years ago and the staff was not clean. When we were served our food the server had her finger in the food. I said never again. And I was told by the staff at another location that they would drop food on floor and put it back on plate. With that being said my husband loves this place we came 9/5/21 it was packed. It looked like new management took over and had revamped the staff. Our server Ernesto was efficient on on point. Although, it was busy he was very attentive. Our food and drinks came out fairly quickly to my surprise and the food was great. I had no complaints. read more

This place used to be our go-to place. Recently, however, the service isn't up to parr. (not enough help), It seems like the fewer guests, the worse the service is. Also, the food leaves a lot to be desired. Asked for crispy hash browns, potatoes were so thin against the plate they were transparent and NOT fully cooked. Never enough butter on the toast (if any at all) Who makes a patty melt with raw onions . . . they did! Who brings second cup of coffee at the end of the meal? They do! I yelped this place in April 2016 and at that time it was great! Not sure why things changed, but they have. Not sure if we will be eating here anymore. read more

Beautiful service the waiter was very nice. The interior is great and the food was delicious. overall great experience would go again.

I order one togo order only. Waiting almost 40 minutes for my order, only to discover it had just been sitting there without anyone notifying me, was frustrating enough. Our server was not easy to find. It wasn't even busy when we came. For the drinks, why call it bottomless if you don't get any refills? Their waffle was soggy, not crispy on the outside. You wake up one morning (or noon in my case) just craving something, right? For me it was pancakes and waffles both! I remembered that the restaurant closest to my house is the Black Bear and they do serve all the breakfast staples all day long. So I looked up their menu and they have something called the sweet cream waffle. The best way I would describe it is that it's a waffle made from pancake batter because that's what it feels like. So soft, so delish! I walk in there, find a nice booth in the corner and order coffee and the bear's choice breakfast. From the options I chose the sweet cream waffle, sausage links and scrambled eggs( it's like a build a bear!) I am telling you no other place would have hit the spot that day, the way this one did. It's always such a happy occasion when you go to a chain restaurant and find that food quality and service doesn't suck! read more
