Visited for lunch around 2:30 p.m. We were seated near an area with several tables that had not been cleaned. It took about 10 minutes before a server came by with utensils and water. Once we ordered, the food arrived and was good, and our server was pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, while eating, I noticed my shoe sliding on the floor. When I looked down, I found that the floor was dirty and covered in a mushy substance that had gotten stuck in the ridges of my shoes. It was pretty disgusting and completely took away my appetite. I'm giving two stars because the server provided good service, but the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was unacceptable. Based on this experience, I won't be returning. read more

We waited a few minutes for a table. The place was packed on a sunny weekday afternoon at 11am. They gave my friend's baby a high chair, so he can join us comfortably. And even gave a him crayon and a picture to draw on. We appreciate it, even thought it only was used for 2 seconds. Our waitress came by fast to take our orders. What stands out the most from my previous visit is that the food quality in terms of flavor taste the same, which is a good thing, but the size has definitely gone down. I was quite surprised when I saw that the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak is at least 30 to 40% smaller than it was before. I feel like they should remove the "Bigfoot" from it because size-wise it just felt like a regular Chicken Fried Steak getting anywhere. I'm glad that they still don't charge extra to switch the cornbread muffin that it comes with for their decently sized pancakes. In regard to the service, while it wasn't perfect, I can definitely say that my server and the employee that brought me to my booth were both friendly. And my server was quite attentive, which was a massive upgrade from one of my previous outings, here where our waitress never offered a refill and never checked back on us until it was time to close out. It was also a huge class that once my order was placed it came out and under 10 minutes, but that may also have to do with the fact that half the restaurant wasn't filled to max capacity. Lastly, I could tell that there was a decent amount of regulars there, which is quite refreshing definitely added to a positive environment. I'm not sure when that will be the next time that I return, but I am glad that the service had improved, the food quality taste wise hasn't gone down and I know that I will be back at some point in the future. 3/5. read more

Went for Lunch today. Nobody acknowledged us for like 20 minutes when we were first seated. They were out of cinnamon roll French toast and the waiter laughed as he informed me when I ordered it. My daughter's food was cold. High chair we were given was broken so we had to hold baby the whole visit. Food then took 30 minutes and our waiter disappeared for the remainder of our visit. As I entered the parking lot, I noticed a sign advertising a 6-ounce steak and eggs breakfast for just $15. My first thought was, "That's an incredible price for a steak breakfast, but I wonder if the steak will be tough?" Well, was I pleasantly surprised! The steak was thick, incredibly juicy, tender, and full of flavor! It exceeded my expectations, and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I will definitely order it again if it's available on my next visit. I've been a regular customer at this location for quite some time, and one of the biggest reasons I keep returning is the outstanding staff and management. I generally request Vasi or Ashley as my servers because their customer service is truly exceptional. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a tough customer with very high expectations when it comes to service. However, these two ladies have completely won me over! Their professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine dedication to their customers deserve recognition. I also want to take a moment to acknowledge the leadership behind this wonderful team. Pedro, who previously managed this location, is someone I greatly admire. He consistently went above and beyond to ensure his customers were satisfied. It's my first time in a Black Bear and I love it. I love it that the menu is a newspaper. I love it that they have a merch store. I love it that they kept their theme of bears - lots and lots of bears. There's even a bear claw donut in the pastry case. We ordered a couple of big breakfast before my buddy ran his 50k and I got some hiking in. The portions are large. I ate my breakfast and saved half for the next day. Fast service. Good food. This business is in dire need of a capable manager and knowledgable and caring staff! The food was very good but the service was a disaster. Aside from the fact that things like salt and pepper were not available and incomplete on the table, we had to organize our own napkins since the waiter was not to be tracked down or even paid attention to us. It took several attempts to even order something extra. He seemed not inly incompetent but did not care. He never checked either if all was ok except when we got up to go. We ordered a fruit pie to go and received for the second time an uncooked meat and pea pie which we found out at home when cutting into it. This once wonderful place is going downhill fast. It was after a softball game, so we came in a group of 9, with 3 joining us after. We were sat within 5 minutes of getting there. Definitely enough for my 6-year-old, but my 10-year-old needed more food. That was our fault--he's a big kid. We ordered an extra side of fries when he was done with his meal. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Cobb Salad. Immediately, I knew it would fill me up. I wanted something light on calories but heavy enough to fill me up for the night. This was the perfect choice. The service was quick and our wait time for food was about 10 minutes. We got country potatoes, over easy eggs, bacon, sausage, and French toast in our meal. The potatoes were drenched in grease and very salty. We ordered an additional set of country potatoes and those were raw, hard, and bland. We had to send them back three times and still ended up not eating them. The eggs were hard and we were told there was nothing wrong. We had to dispute the waitress in order to get a new set of eggs. Received 2/3 meals I ordered through Door Dash & the meals I did receive both came with 1/2 sides...ridiculous. I only ever have issues with my order during dinner time, like cold fries or dry sandwiches, but I usually take it to the head and fix it myself because we're only human we make mistakes. Missing a whole meal though?? On top of that, NONE of the meals received even being complete is beyond me. Whoever works during breakfast & lunch does a great job, I never have complaints. August 2023 update. It's hot in Hayward so we wanted something delicious without having to go out. So my husband has the Country Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Coleslaw. It was good, 4/5 it was well assembled and stayed that way during the delivery process. Gravy looked very delicious. As indicated in my last review I am trying to eat to conform to my diet when eating out so I decided to try the 2 Cheeseburger Sliders with French Fries from the Cub's menu. While I know the menu was intended for kids, the sliders were just a bit dry. Just the cheese I requested and no real flavor to it. Had to add some Dash seasoning to make it more tasty. The sliders may also be slightly bigger than you think when ordering off the kids menu. I got full after eating one and finished only half my fries which I thought did not have that much flavor to it either without adding on my own seasoning. Overall this was a nice small lunch for me to conform to my diet. However I do know that as a child back in the day I was extremely picky with what I ate. And as an adult today, it makes it no different. Needs the option of adding just a little something on the burger to enhance the taste. A good lunch with things to improve on. read more
