Doordashed food at this place for the first time for breakfast. I did not enjoy it. To start off: The Grizz (1.5/5 stars) everything was so dry and undercooked that I couldn't even finish my order. The hash brown was one of the worst hash browns I've ever had. The width of the hash brown was like the size of tape & tasted like it was just peeled from a potato. The egg & smoked bacon was also too dry. The smoked bacon was tough to chew on. The pancakes tasted better than the rest of the meal, but it was too thick. Turkey club (3/5 stars) This club sandwich wasn't too bad. I got it with sourdough bread, but it was too light on the mayo that I had to add more onto the sandwich. I ordered the cup soup of the day for my side & it was tomato bisque soup. The soup tasted a bit sour for a tomato bisque & lacked the savory flavor. Sides: Country red potatoes (2/5 stars) These were also undercooked and taste slippery. Overall, the meal was unsatisfying and disappointing. read more

The server was great, very attentive and helpful when it came to asking her about nuts within a sauce. I was curious if their pesto was nut based or not and she checked for me, it was nut free. I ordered the blackened pesto salmon, the seasoning on the food was fine but my only problem was how dry the salmon was, definitely needed extra sauce on the side or water to wash it down. My partner had the chicken fried steak omelette, his omelette tasted pretty good, we just weren't a fan of the potatoes really. But the portions on the plate were big so that's nice at least. The portions for the price was very nice, bill didn't come out to too much. read more

no one offered us a table while there were 3 employees chatting at the bar counter and the other was enjoying her coffee until we hollered "are you guys open?". Only then we were offered a table by one of the employees who were just chatting. Management needs to do something about the service standards of this place read more

Food is good, service is always good. We go as a group of 6 and they are very accommodating to us.

Service is not good nor the food, they took a long time to take our order, drinks took long, when our food came items were missing/wrong order given 0 stars for me, read more

From start to finish, this was a bad experience overall. I went in during the late night hours around 10pm, considering this is a 24 hour location with a good name to it, I would expect a decent level of service, but we got the exact opposite. As soon as I walked in, we waited about 5 minutes standing at the host stand before anyone even acknowledged our presence. It looked like there was one server and one Manager on duty, and only a couple of tables worth of people so it seemed almost intentional. Once we were seated, we put in our food order and it continued to decline from there. There was an older gentleman that walked in and BOTH the server and Manager were talking to him the whole time, not even checking on tables at this point to see if we needed anything. When we were halfway finished with our plates, we needed some refills and had to literally flag down our server because he was so busy talking with this one guest, want to add that when he came over to our table, he rudely said "yes" as If WE were bothering him from his conversation. HORRIBLE. The late night crew really needs to change as I tried a second time to give this place a chance, but it's still the same. It really shocked me to see the Manager happily gawking with this one guest when he should be checking in on his tables and supporting his server. It's a shame. After this experience twice now with bad service, I won't be returning to this location. read more

Taco Salad was very good. Our Server,Antonio was also very good. I really liked this restaurant. Will be going back.

Came today to celebrate my free birthday breakfast. I ordered bears choice. My daughter ordered bears choice and my husband ordered the volcano. When our food arrived my waffle was totally over cooked and chocolate brown crispy when I used my fork it just crumbled and shocking it didn't eve taste like sweet cream my daughters pancakes were like leather she had to cut hers with a knife my husband's pancakes were under cooked. This resturant is not representing the owners and the way they want you to believe when you read there story on the placemats. VERY SAD and disappointed. I feel other black bears are better. Like milpitas, emeryville, and Pleasanton. Bummer I have to go out of my way to get a good meal at black bear. read more

mediocre food and HORRIBLE SERVICE! Sat for like 45 minutes with only drinks and NO food. No one checked up on us either.

Was never a fan of diner food, but we've had a long day and we took a chance here for some quick brunch. Service was great, it was busy and the place was short staffed. What disappointed me was the food. We ordered the BLT with onion rings and the "veggie" omelette with spinach and a side of potatoes. Both dishes were greasy and salty that afterwards we both felt sick. What we spent here we should have gone somewhere else for better quality food. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

Beautiful place open 24 hours. We arrived at 4pm and they seated us immediately as the crowds had vanished. Their decor is very nice and there's a clean smell around the entire establishment, including the bathroom. I tried their huckleberry lemonade and it was delicious! The serve the menu all day long. I opted for some breakfast and it was delicious. The server was so kind and proactive. They also do free meals for children from 4-9 pm I believe. Unfortunately our child is so young for the savings at this time. What I appreciated the most is their entrees are not over $20 each AND they're very generous too! Overall a good place for dining! read more

I'm writing this review to say thank you to our server Juan, he was really attentive, friendly and fast. It was my first time at Black Bear Diner and didn't know they had bottomless mimosas which they are pretty big and worth it. About the food I would give it a 7.5/10, just because my country potatoes were cold and really hard to chew and also because of the presentation, I think they can do better but other than that for sure I will come back! read more

Black Bear Diner is a typical classic American diner. They are opened 24 hours unlike their other nearby locations. There is parking as well out front. They get a bit busy at times, but there is plenty of seating inside. The food here is decent, it is your typical diner food you would find at your local diners, but it tasted a tad better at a similar price point. I do not particularly have a favorite, since I had only been here twice, but I remember the food was decent for what it is. I was excited one of the nights I stopped by, they had minestrone soup available. read more

Thanks to Darla. Outstanding customer service! Was so pleased. Will definitely return.

Arrived to such a small parking space and a wait of 15-20 minutes. We were seated not long after being til our wait time. Inside is really small, compared to the one we have in our area which is in signal hill. We were a party of 7 including a toddler. Our service was ok. It took awhile to get refills. Our food orders were missing a few items by the time we finished. Other then, you have to try this place. You get so much food for your money. Happy yelping! read more

Portions are a bit in the smaller side compared to Dino's family diner and Country Way in Fremont. Hash browns are not the best, Very bland and not crispy at all. I'm a big time breakfast critic and this would not be somewhere I would recommend for a good quality breakfast spot. I ended up paying more $$ for less food and mediocre service :( read more

We came here for lunch and the service was extremely slow. So slow that we didn't have time to eat it there, and we have an hour lunch. No one even came to greet us, after we were at our table for several minutes I had to go get someone. It seemed like our ticket was put at the end of the line. Because one or two waiters were getting carts full of plates one after another the entire time, we sat there starving. The food was good, but not worth their prices or poor customer service. I won't go back unless I have all the time in the world, and feel like splurging. read more

I have to say that this is hands down the friendliest Black Bear Diner around. Tonight was our second stop in, and once again the service was nothing short of excellent. Visit number one was on Christmas 2022. We were rushing off to Christmas dinner and needed to bring a dessert. When I got to the counter, I was greeted with smiles and such a helpful staff member. I wasn't rushed and she even offered advice. I ordered two pies and 2 containers of the bread pudding- The bread pudding was a hit, the pies were also great, and our hosts were very grateful. Tonight was visit two. My husband and I were heading home from a concert date and we popped in for a late night snack. He ordered French toast and I ordered a waffle. I also had their seasonal pumpkin Spice Cold Brew. The cold brew was too sweet for my taste, but the spice and creaminess were still on point. Our food was really good and the portions were huge. Our server (Bayan) was so nice. She was upbeat and all about customer service. Thank You to the owners and employees for being open 24 hours - even on Christmas. read more

Went for Thanksgiving meal and had the turkey dinner. Food was tasty but not too strongly flavored to be appealing to most palates. Left feeling satisfied but not heading for a food coma so enough for a large guy but for smaller people they had to go boxes for leftovers. Started with salad and cornbread muffin. Main plate came a little too quickly after the salad but since the servers were very busy with a full restaurant, it was understandable. The drinks took a while as well. Nice big plate with enough room for three juicy slices of turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy, a cup of green beans with bits of bacon in liquid, cornbread stuffing and a slice of cranberry sauce. Overall, a nice meal for a decent price on a busy holiday. The staff was hard at work so hoping they made some good tips. read more

Well, today was not the best day I have had a black bear. Typically after Sunday's service at church my husband and I go to a breakfast spot to have our Sunday morning date. Today we chose blackbear in Hayward. I can say that blackbear is one of my favorite spots. I am willing to wait up to 30 minutes to be seated, today was the same. We were seated in about 20 minutes, which was fine, but when we sat at the table, the table was not cleaned there was still trash on the table from the previous party, and then the table had syrup on it to the extent that when my husband said down, he got his sleeve in it now his suit needs to go to the cleaners to be laundered. And I want to say perhaps the waitress was just busy but she was less than hospitable to us. We had to wait a bit of time for our beverage order and even for her to acknowledge we were sitting there. I told her the table wasn't cleaned before we were seated, but don't worry about it, I had my own Clorox wipes, so I wiped the table down myself, the waitress was like, so what! Not a great attitude!! I ordered the hamburger salad, which is always my favorite. It was good. My husband ordered the grizzly breakfast, asking for his hashbrowns to be crispy. it took a while for our food to come. As a matter of fact, there was another guest party that was seated after us who got their food before us, didn't make me happy and they were probably other people who were seated after us who were served before us again didn't make me happy, my husband's breakfast was good. It was lukewarm, but the hashbrowns were undercooked even though he asked for crispy. We had to ask for a glass of water three times. Our waitress only checked on us a couple of times, but we observed her checking on other families more often asking them. What did they need, how was their food? Is there anything else she could get them so I was feeling a little ignored! So I won't give up eating there I will just not have a whole lot of expectations for great service and mediocre food but blackbear will continue to be a spot that I enjoy eating and because I do love the menu, unfortunately today could not have yielded five stars at best three stars and that's being generous. read more

Consistent preparation, more than ample serving sizes and prompt wait staff. Having dined at a few of Black Bear Diners (including the original store), I can say there is consistency in their food prep. We did notice that the Black Bear Diner in Hayward would be open 24 hours due to competition from another chain opening close by. read more

So honestly I am not impressed. We came in and we're sat right away....this is a plus...however my waiter did the bare minimum as far as service. The restaurant was clean and quiet today which was nice. The food was very bland however. Honestly I remember it being better here. It wasn't bad food....just bland. I for sure have had better experiences with Black Bear....but it wasn't a horrible experience either....hence 3 stars....but it was more like 2.8....sorry guys. read more

Great service and food was great! My server was Stephanie and she was very attentive and kind!

Busy Sunday, no wait, server was pleasant, we ordered Pancake combos, kitchen did an excellent job, clean plates, hot, not greasy, even the hashbrowns not greasy. Food came out in 6 minutes. The only issue is that it's understandable after a busy morning, but wiping down the trolley that was used to bring out the food. It's been 6 years since we visited Black Bear, and it's worthy of once a month visit. read more

So.... it actually wasn't was bad as I thought it was gonna be. The last time I visited Black Bear Diner was maybe 3 years ago. The food was completely bland. They have redeemed themselves. So my bf wanted breakfast during dinner and we didn't have many options. We decided to give this place another try. Our waitress was really nice. Checked on us often, super friendly. We were seated right away. There were maybe 3 other tables occupied. I order the Santa Maria tri tip cooked medium. I was surprised that the meat was cooked perfectly. Seasoning was good too. Not too much salt, but you could taste the other seasonings. The green beans were pretty good. I should have gotten 2 of those as my sides. The corned beef has was flavorful. They use real corned beef. Ordered with an over medium egg which came out perfectly as well. The hash browns were good and had a nice crust on it. The steak sauce and the hot sauces were pretty tasty. All the hot sauces had good heat to them. Funny thing, I felt like the baby sauce had the biggest kick. read more

Black Bear Diner - I only ate couple of pc of brócoli and a bite from the Housemade Meatloaf (1060 cals.) the mashed tasted like flour - Diners Near Me - Hayward, California

came for later lunch, ordered comfort food, pot roast, had cup of chili and side salad. The worst chili i have ever tasted and it was barely warm. For some unknown reason they had sugar added and included raw onions without asking. I don't like Cincinnati style chili. nothing in the description mentioned raw onions. the pot roast was so salty and again tepid at best nothing close to hot, and the flavor profile was all wrong. the meat didn't even look like beef but more like pork. I sent both back and refused to order anything else. My husband had open faced turkey sandwich and he said it was alright and it wasn't hot either, warm at best. And they claimed roasted turkey but it was not. we won't be back. Service was fine and pleasant. read more

Supposed to be open 24 hours. I drive out here a little past 2am for an Uber delivery. Doors are locked. Employee inside waving his hands that they're closed. Long overdue review. I have been to this Black Bear Diner for years and for some reason always overlooked leaving a review. Compiling all my previous and visits and today's visit I would rate them a solid 4 stars. The food is good, the portions are generous bear sized platters. The restaurant has a cabin like feel that is adorable. My food today was good, I ordered the California Benedict with red potatoes. The Benedict wasn't anything outstanding and the hollandaise sauce was overcooked and starting to separate. It had a bit too much lemon in it because it was a little more on the zesty side. Potatoes were nice and crispy and well seasoned. Husband had the chicken fried steak. He enjoyed it, nothings overly special but well cooked. Overall we enjoy coming here and will continue to visit. read more
