yellowtail with serrano chili and ponzu sauce. It was just OK, my least favorite out of the 4 rolls i ordered.

Very trendy and cute atmosphere. The menu is a bit pricey, but it's nice for a special occasion. I enjoyed all the spicy tuna rolls I ordered. The Crispy rice spicy tuna and scallop were fire.

The restaurant is decorated and laid out nicely mid to upper scale style. They have a regular bar and a sushi bar along with table seating with plenty of space. I tried their spin on the old fashioned which featured Japanese whisky with a hint of citrus and a nutty infusion caused by the roasted sesame seeds. The drink was delicious. I also had to try their Wagyu nigiri which was amazing. My wife says "why didn't you Wagyu tail" lol The sushi rolls were great and flavorful. We also tried both the braised beef and chicken bao buns which are served and prepared taco style as opposed to being stuffed in the bao bun. The only knock on this place was that we had a bit of an inexperienced server who was not as knowledgeable about their menu because he was fairly new.

Spicy tuna crispy rice and miso cod lettuce cups

I came by for the first time for a Saturday lunch with a friend - I was a bit hesitant since the menu seemed a bit on the fusion-y side of things but was wanting to keep an open mind and try more restaurants around Scottsdale. We were seated immediately, it was pretty empty and a very beautifully decorated restaurant. My friend and I ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice, miso cod lettuce cups, tonkotsu ramen, and a spicy yellowtail roll. I think the spicy tuna crispy rice was just okay, definitely had better. I felt like the rice was maybe a bit too sticky/gummy and there wasn't too much flavor to the tuna. I liked the sauce with the miso cod lettuce cups and felt the cod was tender but it was a bit dry. I did enjoy the tonkotsu ramen - the broth was flavorful and the pork was tender. The yellowtail roll was also decent and had a slightly sweet sauce / taste to it. Overall, I think the food was okay but nothing outstanding especially considering the higher price tag of this restaurant.

I was super starving when I decided on this spot. It's located at Biltmore Fashion, so plenty of parking. It's super cute inside, modern decor is nice. Service was fine, friendly. The food though? I wanted to LOVE this place. They have crispy rice which I love. I got the trio bc why not? It sounded better on paper than it tasted. There was not much flavor for anything. Normally I find foods a bit closer to salty, but it really could have used some additional seasoning. It was okay because of the soy sauce and wasabi. It didn't taste bad at all but in comparison to the crispy rice at other places, this would get 4/10. You could tell this fish was of decent quality, but the flavor development was lacking. The rice didn't even taste like it was seasoned. You get 6 pieces for $26. Probably wouldn't get this again. Braised beef bao. The bun was pretty good. This one had some seasoning, beef was decent. It was a little heavy on the pickled ginger but I was wanting some pickled ginger anyway, so I wasn't disappointed. The beef was tender. 6/10 Shishito peppers. Smokey, a bit spicy, seasoned nicely with a sweet but kinda spicy sauce. 9/10. This is almost exactly what I expect from shishito peppers. Would I eat these again, absolutely. Overall, I was disappointed in the crispy rice bc I've had it elsewhere and it tasted better for cheaper. Vibes are good, but the food was mostly mid.

The place itself was very nice, had the feeling of a very high class diner. Unfortunately even though it wasn't too crowded, the service took a long time. The food itself was decent. I think they were going for an Asian fusion modernized type, but I was not a fan of it. The karaage just tasted like fried chicken with Szechuan peppers. I like both of those things, but I was expecting Japanese karaage, so maybe that's my fault for a wrong expectation. The sushi rolls were alright, but with the price we had to pay, not worth it. I would suggest for the restaurant adding an affordable combo meal, then I probably would've been happier

Drinks were a highlight for sure. I had the Pom star which was very delicious. Tasted like a sweet tart but not overly sweet. For dinner we tried the crispy rice trio (amazing), Cod Cups (just okay), Chili sesame roll (yummy and refreshing), Dynamite shrimp roll (amazing), spicy citrus roll (didn't love). Service was really great! And vibe was nice/semi casual. I would definitly like to go back and try a few more items.

Baked Crab Rolls, +$3 if you want real crab

It's nice inside! A mix of fancy and hipster. I felt underdressed in my athleisure wear. It would be a great place for a first date or special occasion. We parked in the free lot out front. It wasn't busy on a Tuesday night. Note: They use artificial crab in the Baked Crab Rolls ($16). We had to pay $3 more for real crab. It makes me wonder what other ingredients are substituted on the menu... I liked my chicken shoyu ramen! It had a great mix of veggies and the broth was tasty and not too salty. I think they used real chicken. My wife's obon ramen was a bit too spicy for me. Service was good! Elda R took good care of us!

Despite Kung Fu panda taking place in China, it turns out Po is a prodigy of Japanese cuisine as well. Po was brought to Bisutoro on this special evening for one purpose - to fulfill the prophecy of the 7th edition of a Sustainable Bluefin Tuna Dinner. Although the gang initially had their doubts due to a poor position upon entrance to the battle, Master Shi-Fu (or was it Fu-Shi, no was definitely Su-Shi) recognized Po would be the only one with powers magnificent enough to turn the tides. Among a talented crew, Po's skills quickly stood out, but in the face of early adversity, he was shifted down the line. After Tai-Lung (translated as weird slimey oyster) tried to kill the party, the Chosen One knew he had to step up. The legend that he is, Po made a heroic return to the station right in front of us. With his signature Wuxi finger hold, Po quickly assembled beautiful nigiri and sashimi. He continuously provided luxuriously fresh meals to appease the growling bellies of all the customers. And just when we thought the night was over, SKADOOSH! An delicious serving of dessert to end the scene. In all seriousness, the Sustainable Bluefin Tuna dinner at Bisutoro was a spectacular event. Although I have heard only good things about Bisutoro as a restaurant, I came in from out of town for this experience so I have not ordered off their regular menu, I and cannot speak to that. What I can do, is share what a neat occasion this was and recommend it to anyone who gets the chance. We started off with delectable appetizers that were all you can eat. Friendly servers walked around in a happy hour setting allowing people to socialize before starting. Then, the owner of the restaurant talked us through the traditions of breaking down a tuna to be used for sushi, using every last part and offering a few lucky bystanders some samples. The aesthetic was gorgeous and the excitement of the night was palpable across the entire restaurant. Vibes were phenomenal from start to finish and the food was incredible. Each dish was meticulously curated to make the fresh tuna the star of the show. Different parts of the fish were served as different plates allow us to try all that the sustainably caught fish had to offer. Accompaniments ranged from nothing for the sashimi, to perfectly simple rice of nigiri, to much more complex textures and flavors. All of the chefs were amazing. Obviously very skilled at what they do, but also just fun people to be around. Po happened to be the chef who spent a lot of time in front of us so we got to converse with him the most. No other way to put it, that guy is a legend - great chef and chill dude. If you see him as a customer, congratulations. If you see him as an employee, give him a raise. As far as ratings go, my friends and I agree that this movie of a meal is PG (Po's GOATed). No brainer 5 star on the Yelp scale too.

Came here with my husband for date night. Super fancy! I liked the esthetics. For starters, we shared the baked crab rolls. Our waitress asked if we wanted imitation or real crab. This threw me off but we opted for the real stuff. It was a few bucks extra. They were tasty however don't think they were "baked" because they were a bit cold and only charred on top. The name is a bit misleading but oh well. I got the Obon ramen- great flavors in the broth. The red chilis were a bit spicy but if you love spice, this is your kinda bowl. The pork didn't have much meat but the mushrooms made up for it. I'd love to try their sushi happy hour next time!

OBON Ramen and Steak Rice Bowl

Overall Bisutoro was a good experience. The vibes are good, kind of a club vibe. Service was spectacular, I wish I remembered our server's name, she was great. We ordered the shrimp tempura, obon ramen and steak rice bowl. The shrimp tempura dipping sauce was a standout, but the tempura was a bit too greasy and we wished there was more shrimp in each. The steak rice bowl was good and very flavorful. The ramen was good but spicy, and that is coming from someone who likes spice! There is more on the menu we are excited to try. We'll be back!

Dined at Bisutoro later at night, so the restaurant was not terribly busy and there was no wait to be seated for a party of 8. Our server was wonderful, and was even able to modify my order to have uni nigiri. It was restaurant week so we had a few of us who ordered the prefixed options, but by far the uni nigiri was the best in my opinion. The large pieces of pork in the tonkotsu were nice and caramelized with a slight char which added a nice texture change. As the restaurant was slowing down for the night, it wasn't horribly loud, but I can see how it would be a bit noisy during their rush hour.

What up humans! Back at it again, on a sushi mission that's been lurking on the list like an ex in your DMs. Super dope vibe, ambience - legit, deco was next level, music massaged the ears, server knew the menu like it was her mixtape, it was checking all the boxes and playing bingo. Check it out. Chili Sesame Tuna- Okay, this dish was good but average. Probably my least favorite of the bunch. Bluefin Tuna, Yellowtail, Avocado, Cucumber, came with a Spicy Ponzu Sauce with Scallions and Cilantro. Nothing jumped out at me. Baked Crab Rolls - My fav of the orders, slapped like a fish in a cartoon bar fight Crab Mix, Soy Paper, Seared Spicy Mayo, Chives, Yuzu Salt and a side of Ponzu. Yoooooo. Bluefin Dragon - Another good order, Crab Mix, Shrimp Tempura, Cucumber Eel, Bluefin Tuna, Avocado, a Smokey Chipotle Aioli, Eel Sauce, Scallions and Sesame Seeds. They assembled the avengers for this one Salmon Belly Oshi - This one was solid. No frills, just skills. Clean. Simple. And stupid good. Pressed Salmon Belly, Jalapeño, and Ponzu Truffled Beech Mushrooms. Must order for me. Wagyu Modern Nigiri - Forgot to take a pic because it came out super late. They should invite me back for free (jk, not really) But listen, this was melt in your mouth, light chewing required, simple and disrespectfully good. Wagyu Beef, (was out of Uni), Kazami (pickled wasabi) and Soy. Absolutely delicious. Cheesecake - I don't skip this part anymore, and for all the right reasons. We all know cheesecake is my fav, but this gigantic tower of Cake came smothered in this amazing Miso Caramel, and Candied Pecans. Yum! Place was legit, service was good, go treat your tastebuds, they have so much more food on the menu, I'll be back for sure but skipping the sushi next time. Enjoy my friends.

I have never been here before so I wanted to try the place. He was a little hesitant because he didn't really enjoy his first time here. We arrived a little before 5:30pm on Monday and were seated right away. There were a few people at the bar and a few at some tables. More arrived after but it wasn't super busy. The interior in here is beautiful! Service here was great. Our order: Pineapple Express (HH $11) Onsen a Lifetime ($16) Tito Vodka soda lime x2 ($26) Shishito Peppers (HH $6) Bluefin Tuna Chili Sesame ($23) Miso Yellowtail Roll ($20) Uni Nigiri ($30) The Pineapple Express was really sweet but was actually kinda strong. I liked the Onsen a Lifetime cocktail more. It was refreshing! The shishito peppers were so good! Loved the sauce they topped it with. So flavorful. The bluefin tuna chili sesame was good and had a crunch to it. Miso yellowtail was also good. The uni quality was very fresh but I feel like $30 is overpriced! He said he had a better experience this time around and liked everything that I picked out

I'm assuming it's a family-owned joint because the one and only guy working front of house always takes care of me. He's awesome. The place is cute. It's tastefully decorated, and they have a very-on-brand, ginormous full moon light on the wall that's illuminated from behind. It's super cool. I've only ever seen a couple other diners in there with me at any time. The food comes out super fast, which is great, because I'm hungry as soon as i step in the place. The prices are reasonable, the portions are generous, and the food is always good. If you're in the area, this place is a must-stop.

Good amount of fish vs rice. Everyone is very attentive. Service is very good. The ambiance is interesting :) nothing fancy but not too bland either. There are full moon/moon related decorations. Upon entering, we were free to seat ourselves and chose a booth by the wall. It was not busy at all and the service was quick and friendly. We started off with a large sake bomb paired with a Kirin Light ($15). We then ordered two Tonkotsu Ramens, one medium spice and one hot spice ($15.99 each). Honestly, the hot spice level did not taste spicy at all, so I would recommend going extra hot if you like spice. They also provide chili powder on the table if you want to add more spice yourself. The ramen broth itself could have used a tad more flavor. I lightly added some soy sauce to the broth which is something I often do to add a little kick. I loved all of the toppings included, from the green onions to the kikurage (wood ear mushroom). My favorite part was the pork chashu, which was really tender and delicious. I also appreciated that the ramen came with a full soft boiled egg rather than half an egg, and the egg was perfectly runny. Before leaving, we ordered their tea special that was buy one get one. We got a matcha milk tea and a cafe latte which I forgot to take a photo of. I felt like the cafe latte could have used a little more sweetness to balance it. Also, I found it neat that Nishikawa offers a rewards program, not something I see often at ramen shops. My true rating would be 4.5 due to some of the criticisms I mentioned above, but overall I still had a good experience. Thank you for serving us. Visited 5/2/26

I sat there for several minutes and when she came back, she asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a menu and then she tapped this little sign on the table that had a QR code on it. I guess they want you to use your phone to look up the menu but then she brought me a printed menu and a glass of water. I had about a minute to look at the menu before the waitress came back and asked what I wanted. I ordered the small portion of the chicken karaage appetizer and the Nishikawa Black Ramen. Both items came out at about the same time. The chicken was good and there was a lot which somewhat surprised me because I thought they had given me a large portion by mistake. The only downside was that the plate was really small so the chicken kept tumbling onto the table. The ramen was just ok. It came in a really big bowl and there was a lot of broth and toppings but relatively little noodles in comparison. It was more like a bowl of soup. The slice of pork was huge but a little bit chewy when I was expecting it to be tender. The egg wasn't sliced so it was difficult to pick up the entire piece with my chopsticks. The chicken was $7 and the ramen was $18. I would have been ok just getting the chicken, perhaps a large portion for $12. I wouldn't get this particular ramen again. With tax and a tip my total was a little over $31 which isn't the most I've spent at a ramen restaurant, but it wasn't cheap either. I wasn't offered a refill on my drink until after I had paid and was ready to leave. In fact, I only saw the waitress once after my food was brought out, and that was when she brought me the bill. The rest of the time she was somewhere in the kitchen.

I ask if she could add something to my order (I wanted to add an egg to my ramen, not on the side but in the ramen) to which she acknowledged. Roughly 10 mins later, a new waiter brings me out an egg in a bowl! I politely told him I asked for it to be in my ramen, not as a side. He looks at me as if I've lost my mind, then asks if I want it in a to-go box... why?? I told him a second time, that I asked for it to be on my soup, the ramen! He walked away. Another 15 mins goes by and yet another server comes and brings out our food. Everyone around us is getting service, like multiple times, but we have yet to see our waitress. We asked a 3rd waiter if we could get sauces, which he brings out. We eat our food, and guess what...? Still no waitress. We finish our food and had to ask a fourth waiter for a to go box, and finally our waitress comes out and asks if we need anything, to which I tell her, no, we've already been taken care of! She walks away with what seemed like an attitude. Brings our check. Another 10 mins goes by and we don't see her... every other table is gettin their service from their waiters/waitress and we don't. So we get up and pay for our bill, ourselves at the hostess table. Our waitress comes up to take our bill, doesn't say anything at all. No, I'm so sorry I'm waiting multiple tables, or hey sorry I'm working both inside and outside, nothing. Besides the less than par service the food was really good!! If she would have at least communicated to us, how busy she was or is or anything, this would a be a totally different story.

The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

On a Sunday evening, after checking out the Desert Botanical Garden, I was looking for some food in…read morethe area. I came across Zu Izakaya and it's great reviews as one of the options. I love Japanese food so my decision was made. I drove over and parked in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (3.5/5): I've been to Japan and there are plenty of izakayas there. Think of them as small bars which often serve solid food. Zu fits that bit. It's a relatively small restaurant, probably seats about 30 people. and it's pretty no frills for a Japanese spot. I was seated at a booth in the corner of the restaurant. They have free WiFi which is always a good touch. Service (3/5): Service was friendly, though a bit inconsistent. My waitress wasn't as attentive as I would have liked. The type of service where you have to flag them down to get what you want and to close out. Drinks (4/5): Zu has a nice menu of Japanese and Korean beverages, including sake, soju, Japanese beer, and more. With that being said, I just had an iced green tea. Food (4/5): I got a nice variety. I went with the Japanese sausage off of the grill menu, the OBI mayo roll off of the sushi menu, and the cheese corn off of the appetizer menu. Let's start with the sausage. It's a small item, two small sausages, but absolutely delicious. The sausage was bursting with flavor and basted in a sweet sauce. Minus the portion size, perfection. The cheese corn also hit the spot, but the execution was off. The corn is served on a hot platter, and unfortunately some of the corn on the edges was badly burnt. The type of situation where they should start over. Which they didn't. Lastly, the OBI mayo roll is essentially a California roll with marinated warm shrimp on top in a mayo sauce. I didn't love the hot and cold combo (shrimp and sushi), but outside of the temperature, it was a delicious roll. All in all, a very food meal. My only gripe with Japanese food is that it can get expensive quick. Given that Zu is in Tempe, I was hoping that prices would be a little cheaper. With that being said, they do have a solid happy hour (and reverse happy hour) with both food and drink specials. Next time I stop by, I'd like to check out some of their Korean options. I focused on the Japanese stuff this time (which makes the majority of the menu). Next time around, the bulgogi is calling my name!

Funny enough, this actually wasn't even the exact restaurant my partner had been thinking of when he brought it up, but honestly I'm so glad we ended up here anyway because the food was REALLY good. We ordered the flaming ohmygod sushi roll, and man... it was amazing. Not only was the presentation fun, but the sushi itself actually tasted incredible too, which sometimes isn't the case with more "gimmicky" menu items. It was so good that I literally ordered another roll to-go and took it on the plane back home with me because I already knew I'd be craving it later. That alone should say enough about how much I liked it. I also tried the matcha martini, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. It had the perfect balance of matcha flavor and alcohol where neither one overpowered the other. Sometimes matcha drinks either taste way too earthy or completely lose the matcha flavor under the alcohol, but this one was super smooth, flavorful, and really well done. The restaurant itself also has a really nice atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor area definitely has a more upscale vibe than your usual sushi spot and that makes the experience feel a little more elevated and perfect for a date night. On top of all that, the servers were super friendly and provided genuinely great service throughout the meal. Everyone was attentive, welcoming, and made the experience feel really comfortable and enjoyable. Overall, this place completely exceeded my expectations. Great sushi, fun presentation, amazing drinks, friendly service, and a really nice atmosphere. I'd absolutely come back again.

First time here and I was not disappointed. All of the staff were friendly and helped each other…read morerun food and refill waters, which isn't something you see much of these days. We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. But this is a more upscale sushi restaurant, so it isn't surprising. I will keep this place in my list of spots to hit when I'm looking for a bite to eat in DTPHX.
