The miso glazed salmon teriyaki might be one of the best that I've ever had! The yuzu yellowtail that the server recommended was delicious and the citrus spicy salmon roll was too- but beware it was VERY spicy. Also tried a margarita and I'd definitely get it again. Overall I wish they had more of the jackfruit dishes that their other location up north has, but I'd definitely recommend this one too! read more

Have dined in twice as well as ordered takeout and all three meals were outstanding. Even the sushi held up well transported via delivery. Yes, it's a little pricier (definitely not as pricey as Nobu as some of the other reviews mention) but you are paying for the quality. It's hard to find quality sushi/fish as well as ramen in this area so to have it on one menu is a serious plus for me!! Also cocktails were divine! We dropped in for lunch to this wonderful place on Monday and I have been dreaming of returning again soon. The ambience is cool and uncluttered in the Japanese style. We were greeted and seated by a charming and knowledgeable bartender who recommended some starters. The menu is not large but quite interesting. The waiter was friendly and professional and gave us a rundown of the offerings. We chose to start with miso black cod lettuce wraps and yellowtail sashimi in a citrus sauce. Both of them were terrific but the cod blew me away. We got a crab sushi roll and duck bao sandwiches instead of an entree and were delighted. There is such attention paid to taste and texture in every dish. I want to go back very soon and try everything else. read more

I've been a Biltmore resident for nearly 16 years, and have seen many establishments in and out of this location throughout my tenure. I normally don't spend time writing bad reviews, but I have to vocalize the experience I had with my friend last night. We sat at the bar and experienced very poor service - our waitress did not know the menu, I had to ask what people were eating next to us for her to understand what we wanted. I ordered a glass of wine, after waiting 15 minutes - I alerted another bartender to cancel the order cause she was clearly in way over her head - which the bar was not even full - she was too distracted and not focused on her patrons. My food arrived without my full order. We waited over 15 minutes to get her attention to get a to-go box, I know by this time she knew we were very unpleased with the service and was avoiding us. I got up from my seat and went to the kitchen to ask for a to-go-box. Then another bartender stepped into take our payment - she was clearly embarrassed for how she has mishandled us and had him finish her job. We went without our water being refilled, and was never asked how our meal was. I'm sharing this because at a time when customer service is so important - especially for an establishment like yours in paying $100+ for sushi for two - I never plan to go back there based on my experience. I hope you take my feedback into consideration in hiring your team. Your team is just as important than what's on the plate. read more

I have no reason to go back to this place. I was really excited to try the menu here but everything I got was very underwhelming. I'm not cheap when it comes to food, but the quality and flavor of each dish did not do it for me, especially for the price. I ordered some nigiri and didn't realize that they put a bunch of stuff on top of it. I prefer the traditional Japanese nigiri and would not have ordered any had I known. Ordered some things from the robata and almost everything was underdone and did not taste good. The Hainan chicken was probably the worst thing I've eaten in a while. The chicken was so dry even after dumping the soup all over it and dipping it in the sauces. My true review is 1.5 stars because it took us about 20 minutes to get water. It's hot outside and i was so thirsty when we got inside. We were seated at the bar since it was quite busy. The bartender avoided eye contact with us whenever I tried to ask for some water. I was so annoyed after about 5 minutes I put a timer on my phone. Thankfully a server came to bring us water. Another 10 minutes and we got to put our order in with the same server. I understand it was busy, but I'm a server/bartender as well and I would never let any of my guests go without water for that long especially during the summer time. read more

Now my favorite sushi restaurant in Scottsdale/Phoenix and that is saying a lot. Tough competition here. The chef is creative with fresh ideas. Every single staff member was on point. Geo is the STAR at the sushi bar! Great recommendations and perfect execution. He introduced me to pickled wasabi, I'm obsessed. Plus, he's super fun to chat with. Out of this world sushi and miso cod!! We live across the street and we were so thrilled to stumble across this place one week after it opened. We are absolute sushi snobs and have never found sushi in Phoenix that we love. But, Obon changed our mind. The bigeye tuna was maybe the best nigiri that we have ever had. Seriously, it was next level. We also had the steak tartar and miso cod, both equally as impressive. The drinks were great and the ambience and service were amazing. We literally had tears of joy when we left. I'm so happy to have such an amazing restaurant within walking distance. We can't wait to go back for more tuna and to try the steak. read more

we've been here probably 7 or 8 times now, but our visits have certainly decreased in frequency. bisutoro is a great pick for the nigiri/sashimi lover, and those who like traditional asian beverages. occasionally, salmon is cut less than optimally, but in comparison to other restaurants, it is good. for those who would rather have cooked food, i would confidently say that bisutoro is not for you- aside from their gyoza; which is spectacular. had the garlic chicken a while ago and it was salty and overall.. not great. service ranges GREATLY, definitely lacks consistency. even with reservations, sometimes you will get the absolute crappiest table with the worst chairs (the booths are the only good seating in the restaurant), and it will take you 10 minutes to get water for your table. other times, waiters are friendly and attentive, and no glass is left empty. with that being said, the one thing bisutoro lacks, and should work on, is their consistency. i understand staffing is exceptionally difficult given our economical circumstances, but for the price point and the reputation the restaurant wishes to uphold, some work needs to be done. read more

If their is a face behind Obon Bisutoro it is "George" the host. I honestly thought he was the owner/manager. From the moment I stepped in to the restaurant, I felt I was sitting in the dining room of a friend. The atmosphere is both cozy and intimate. This was my first time dining in an upscale restaurant. I had my reservations. However...... George comfortably seated me and made suggestions. He didn't "read" me the menu, he broke down what each dish's ingredients. I was amazed that ALL the INGREDIENTS were imported from Japan. The service is excellent, George and the servers are polite and efficient with busing the tables. Prices are more than reasonable. I would rate this establishment on a scale of 10...a solid 10!!! read more

Very very yummy food. I came with a large party of 12 & made a reservation. They put us in a private room that was gorgeous and had a great vibe. I had the chance to sample A LOT of their dishes since we all passed our dishes around to share. The Hawaiian poke bowl was very fresh and delicious. Loved the added spice from the jalapeños. I would prefer more lettuce and less rice but that's just a personal preference. The salad was HUGE for a house salad and so yummy. All the sushi was extremely fresh I had sampled the spicy salmon, California, dynamite shrimp, salmon skin, and rainbow roll. My favorite was the dynamite shrimp and spicy salmon roll. I also tried the crab rice which was delicious. The gyoza (pot sticker) was yummy and had a good filling. The soft shell Bahn Mi had a very yummy spicy mayo sauce and was overall good. I also tried the steak rice bowl and the steak was cooked to perfection (warning it comes out extremely hot, so ask for an extra plate to allow some of the food to cool. Also it is very large in my opinion/ could feed two). Overall great service, food, and atmosphere. Where can I start. I made a reservation today for 6 we got there the place looked really nice and well put together, that is why my rating is not one star. We went ahead and ordered the Lobster Roll which tasted like butter lettuce and that's about it, Tuna Cut Roll, white fish roll, Albacore Nigiri and Salmon Nigiri, spicy garlic noodles and none of the dishes had any flavor. I've been to many sushi restaurants and this is by far unfortunately the worst one I've been to. The rice was well cooked but had no flavor. The only thing that was flavorful that you can't really mess up where the Shishito peppers but to be honest the ones I make at home with bonito flakes taste better than these. The ponzu sauce had no flavor almost like it was watered down, the waitress had the audacity of letting me know that it was made in house and not from a bottle as if implying I wasn't capable of enjoying the finer things. When we left the waitress made a gesture of relief like if we where a burden, maybe a change in attitude after the nice tip we left her would be great. Unless there is a change in the kitchen this place won't last long. read more

The atmosphere and staff are great and a very impressive menu however, the prices are way out of line. $17 for a serving of sushi (your normal two pieces) is rather high. $7 for a 12 oz draft beer is about 30% higher than what others in the part of town charge. However the food was good and fresh but I can find equally impressive Japanese food for far less meaning you are paying mostly for the ambience. read more

Tonight was our second visit to Bisutoro. It just gets better and better. The food (I had the spicy noodle dish) is fantastic. It's really top notch. My cocktail (Black Dragon) was equally great. The atmosphere is fantastic. It's ultra-cool inside and the crowd is very cheerful and festive. Perhaps, best of all is the service. The waiters, bartenders and staff could not be friendlier or more attentive and knowledgeable. Bisutoro really is a special place. It is a beautiful restaurant and expensive. That said we were very disappointed in the food. I think their menu should clarify that the garlic noodles are made with a thick ramen noodle. We wouldn't have ordered it if it stated that on the menu . Not like any other garlic noodle we've ever had, left most of it. Also the gyoza we were told were pan fried. They seemed more like deep fried and were in a broth so then they were soggy. Never served that way and something we always order. The Banh Mi sandwich was very small, hardly had any veggies and not a great roll. We left most of it and weren't ask why. They should make it clear that they are more of a fusion style restaurant and train their staff better so they are more aware of customers dissatisfaction . read more

Only to be seated at a high-top table near the bar and heavy traffic area. Started with a delicious pineapple cocktail -- not too sweet, not too tart, and just right to be a refreshing complement to the spice level in our meal. Despite the fairly strong reviews of this place , our experience fell way short . Service was super slow (we waited 50 minutes for the second appetizer we ordered ) , the waitress was non attentive and the food over priced based on their super small portions .... we have tried many Japanese and Sushi restaurants in the valley and despite this place having great ambiance and a great popular location , it just does not measure up .... we left after our second appetizer was brought (six super tiny pieces of Yellowtail sashimi , half the size of other good sushi places for $ 26.00 ! ) read more

i'm surprised at the reviews. Several weeks ago I went there with a friend we sat at the bar the bartender was great personable and helpful. Unfortunately the food to follow was not one specific item that was worse than something you'd get at The greasy spoon, was there stirfried rice with chicken and Vietnamese vegetables. It was around 20 $25 if I recall. I asked about it ahead of time and was told there was some carrots and Vietnamese vegetables in it. What we ended up with was a bowl, that was apparently kept in the oven to keep the food hot which is great. Having eaten at some of the best authentic sushi bars in big cities, I wanted to warn folks that this is very average and very overpriced: $75 for 2 people. Maybe the other Asian dishes here are good but there was not one piece of sushi (we ordered multiple different rolls) that had any fresh, 'wow' flavors; just very bland. We had to even ask for the wasabi, pickled ginger and gluten- free tamari sauce; no one offered. The house 'filtered' water tasted so bad, we had to order San Pellegrino bottled water, which was $8 a bottle! Young, college aged kids were running the whole show. There's not an area/bar you can see your sushi being made. And from what we saw in the back kitchen, no Asians making your food. We should have known that most restaurants at a mall are going to be just fancy and very overpriced and not truly authentic. read more

The food was delicious. Wonderful flavors that were just a delight. Between the 3 of us, we ordered broccolini, crispy cauliflower, yellowtail crudo, poke bowl, steak tartare and a skirt steak rice bowl. The skirt steak was tough and almost inedible. We were asked when ordering if we wanted to upgrade from the skirt steak, but at $36 for the bowl, we felt that was expensive enough. It was absolutely delicious however. The poke bowl needed a bit of help. It too was quite pricey, and was mostly rice a spring lettuce mix. It needed more poke and seaweed. Everything else was really very good. With one cocktail and these several dishes, our bill came to roughly $170. The menu was extensive and everything sounded absolutely delicious, but it was a costly dinner. read more
