Went in for the first time today. I was amazed at the selection and quality of shoes that were in the store. A gentleman named Logan helped me out tremendously today. . The service and knowledge was impeccable. He was able to fit me in the right shoe based on my needs of my feet and ankles. I bought a pair today and have already worn them o. A long walk! I have been here a handful of times because I still appreciate being helped while selecting shoes. Makayla waited on me twice over the past few months. Most recently regarding an exchange. I bought a pair of Birkenstock sandals, the big buckle, about 3 months ago. Very quickly the shoe began to break down which I found very odd for Birkenstock as I was sold on their craftsmanship and longevity. Birkenstock is also recommended for the foot and promotes good balance and posture. I shared what had happened and showed Makayla my sandals. She said that was unusual for Birkenstock and took the initiative to consult with the manager. She returned with the news that an exchange was possible and that in fact, likely, I purchased a defective pair. In a time when customer service is truly dwindling to a stubby nub of a broken branch, I was and am appreciative of the chatter I had with Makayla and her own instinct to check if an exchange was possible. I truly thought I was going to need to jump through hoops to get the matter resolved. For more context, I do have my phone number on file, evidence of purchase was located through this account, and it was an overall delightful and smooth process. Each time I have come into the store, I find it wonderfully laid out. Typically it is staffed by two - so when it is busy you may need to speak up for what you need or remind your service clerk for more help/service. I see a few nasty reviews of this place and the customer service. There is a lack of examples of how this went down. Whenever I read 1 star reviews I often wonder about the one writing the review. I do not come to yelp to dump on a small business. If I do complain, I surely come with some examples that could make the customer experience better. {{For example, I was left without someone to get me additional shoes, definitely frustrating, so I requested the clerk an additional time. When service was still poor, I asked to speak to a manager to discuss what was happening. The manager was able to remedy the situation and apologized for the frustration. She said she'd address the matter with the clerks.}} Coming on to yelp to air you frustrations is not where you get remedy, you speak with management, or make a call later if you're really in a pissed off state of mind. Good selection, and nicely laid out. I came in on a Sunday, and Kaitlyn (sp?)m helped me. She is great. It was busy, and for every person upon entering the store, she would say, "Welcome... how can I help you?" (sic). This is a great store, very well stocked. Several interesting brands besides Birkenstock are well represented here. The store is very easy to find, and the sales floor is replete with very interesting displays of virtually every kind of sandal or open footwear imaginable. I received excellent service from the sole salesperson on the floor, while she handled several other customers with aplomb. While I was there (taking my time to decide), she rang up three other sales. Very productive! One star off for the chaotic sales racks. No prices could be found, and the sizes were a bit jumbled and confusing. A size chart explaining the equivalancy between American and European sizes would helpful. Prices would be nice, too. That said, I recommend this place to all ! It's great to shop at a local business with excellent sales personnel rather than a national chain staffed by people who just don't care. read more

Came in with my gf, nobody said hi or if we needed help. 3 workers, one of them goes to an older white lady, helps her. Same worker goes to a white lady next to us to ask if they need help, completely ignoring us throughout the whole time. Got up and left. Terrible service, never coming back lol read more

Asst Mgr Kira would not honor store's policy of exchanging Birks. The Birks were new, in orginal box, with receipt (within 30 days of purchase), and wore Only Inside my Home while I was wearing socks. But the Birks hurt my right foot, so I hoped to find a pair that allowed comfort without Pain. Kira refused to assist and would not allow me to speak to a manager. Awful customer service. Was trying to get help deciding what shoes would be best for my achy feet and was told "whatever you see, is all we have" then I asked if the had a certain shoe in stock and again what told the same thing. Not going back! Also, every time I have visited this store it was hot In there. No AC!!! read more

I've been having trouble with my feet lately and was told by a friend that I should consider a pair of Birkenstock. Having never owned or even tried on a pair, I decided to go to the La Mesa Birkenstock location. When I walked in I was greeted and told they're closing in 20 minutes, but I was welcome to shop. I tried on a few pairs of shoes and flip-flops that had all the available sizes displayed, but kinda wandered around not really knowing which types of shoes might be most suitable for me and needs. After walking around for about 15 minutes, with no one ever offering to assist me in any way, I just decided to leave. It seems like they have an awesome selection of shoes, but it would've been nice to have received some assistance on purchasing a couple pair of $100+ shoes. Their customer service was pretty much nonexistent. I won't return to this location. I'm going to try some other stores tomorrow. read more

Today was my first time at this Birkenstock location in La Mesa, it's easy to find on University and centrally located. Easy parking on site too. I love Birkenstock Sandals and the Shoes too. Been wearing them since I was in High School. Actually this past two years I haven't owned any style Birk at all, I had a negative experience after I purchased my last pair from the old LG location. The same sandals I have always purchased and I know how many years I will at a minimum get out of a pair, not including repairs etc. well this last pair for some reason only lasted me exactly 1 year, the footbed only made it through one summer music festival. And the sole had worn down almost flat after the summer. So after that dud of a pair of Milanos I took a break from Birkenstock. Well I'm back! I'm so happy we stopped in today and I found exactly what I wanted! The sales associates, were very kind and helpful. I of course had to try on the wrong size 2 times, just to make sure I was still a 39. They were busy but there was just enough staff that the entire experience was awesome. It's a nice and relaxed environment at this shop, and it's great to be able to browse, feel welcomed and not feel rushed. Great customer service. Thank you all for being kind, because earlier this week I had tried to peacefully purchase a pair of work shoes at (Big5) and the shoe guy, would not leave me alone to try on any of the 4 pairs of shoes, just stood uncomfortably over me, and I couldn't even get up and go to the mirror without my babysitter. Not cool. So yes. I completely recommend this location! And next door in the side store, oh boy, did some more shopping there. The manager and her sister who rang us up were great everyone super friendly. And nobody looked at us like we were crazy browsing for over an hour, we will be back most definitely! Love keeping it local and grateful for your knowledge and kindness. So happy with my beautiful sandals and the other pairs of sneakers, this is what every shoes shopping experience should be like. First time in this store. Not just Birkenstock's. Picked up a pair of Hoka's and a pair of clearance Olukai's. Store is clean, well organized and the staff were very helpful.
