My husband and I were walking around with his parents and happened to check out this place. I'm not in on the whole steam punk scene or anything, but I can appreciate the awesomeness of the things here. We bought several gifts and spent a lot more time looking around. They have really unique jewelry, clothing, accessories, and much more. The prices were very reasonable, too. Apparently they do readings, and I think crafts and things too. This place is great if you want something one of a kind! Even if you don't think it's your style, you might find some cool earrings, a fascinator, or even just hair clips. read more

Nice but small steampunk shop off the main "downtown" area of La Mesa. The clothing selection is based on used clothes so I think it would be hit and miss on your size. But the items they have are interesting. They also have a selection of essential oils, jewelry, tea, and ephemera. The young woman in the store was very friendly. read more

Very cozy little shop! Almost everything in the store is made my the owner, family or friends! Great variety of stuff for the size, classes are provided too, and the shop is located near plenty of other small businesses in downtown La Mesa near where the farmers market is held! The owner is so sweet, knowledgeable and helpful when you have questions. She likes to get to know her customers and remembers people even if they stopped in once a long time ago. She has a few friends that teaches classes that you can sign up for on the shop's website and they're very nice and reasonable priced for what you get! She is trying to hold more classes and events for what her customers want too! Which is amazing and so very thoughtful. read more

This is where my Crystal collection all began! Nice selection of crystals, oils, and incense. As well as Tarot Cards and Books. They have cute jewelry, I bought a few necklaces with crystals as pendants. They are so helpful, I was in this shop for literally 2 hours before and it's so small. Yes, it was THAT interesting. I had a really good experience shopping here. I was actually in the area looking for items for my Halloween costume when I happened upon The Labyrinth. They have a lot of unique items packed into the tiny storefront, and the sales people were super helpful and friendly, explaining the history of any items I had questions about. I ended up purchasing some really well made clothing items that I will definitely be wearing for more than just a one time costume, and the prices were really good for pieces that had been sewn/altered by hand. Wish you guys ended up in Normal Heights (a few blocks down the road from my house) but I'll have to make it back to La Mesa soon to check out your new treasures. read more

This place is amazing! I feel in love instantly. I was so excited to have a local apothecary shop (I was ordering my stuff from LA) and to be able to talk to someone so knowledgeable. They have so much to offer her besides the normal medicinal herbs. There steam punk items are to kill for (and I just might) there well made and original. They also have repurposed items that are so unique many of which you have to look twice to see what that it was actually something else originally. This is the coolest eclectic store in the area, and perhaps even all of San Diego! As a crafty type myself, I appreciate the uber-cool steampunk clothing and jewelry (got to get some wirework elven ears!) and is one of the only places in East County where you can purchase loose bulk herbs of all kinds! They also have a nice variety of essential oil options, despite the small store size. I just SOOO connected with Steve, the store's Tarot Card Reader - as a professional intuitive myself, you can tell he is the REAL deal! Awesome store. I was on a mission to find the perfect steampunk costume. I was a little intimidated by corsets since I had no clue how to put one on. However, the saleswomen was genuinely helpful. She helped me pick out something I felt comfortable with and taught me how to put it on! I found my entire costume plus some. Great hats, jewelry and clothes. I highly recommend Blackbird. My favorite metaphysical shop! The woman who I assume is the owner is very very helpful and patient and all other people who I've seen working there were extremely welcoming. I'm normally intimidated by workers in these types of stores because I'm a newbie but it's obvious she wants to help her customers. I usually browse shops like these for their gemstones, for use in my own projects. I was surprised to find how pricey their selection was compared to other places. I'm also not happy that their peacock ore was blatantly fake, little more than a rock covered in glitter (for those that don't know, chalcopyrite, or peacock ore, is not a sedimentary rock and shouldn't leave particles in it's container and on your hands, like their imitations do). I can understand falling for well-made imitations, but anyone with access to a google search can tell you that what they have is NOT the rock is claims to be. I know this seems like I'm a bit worked up over one rock, but if they can't make those basic calls, then that leaves me wondering on the quality of their other products. Their jewelry involving gemstones, however, were pretty, well-made, and fairly priced. At least that's something. read more

I went this Sunday to check out the stones. Ever since my mother told me about the store I have felt drawn to it like I HAD to be there. Liz was so kind and helpful and extremely knowledgeable of everything and if she didn't know or was unsure she would look in her special book to find a response! Omg I can't explain how special it feels to be inside that store. So much positive energy! I just got home from the store right now. My mother, sister and I went to go visit Liz since last time she asked if all of us could come back and since my mother had a wonderful experience; well, we went.
