We waited for awhile but no one came back to take the Kids food order so we had to ask again to place the kids food order once the adults food arrived. The adults food did not take long to arrive but for some reason our pork bone soup base never came with the extra chicken and intestine that it usually does. Again, another oh well! However, the food for the kids took RIDICULOUSLY long. It literally took 45 minutes and checking in on the order 3 times for ONE of TWO kids meal to arrive. The kids ended up eating the adults set meal and after 45 minutes my poor niece and nephew had to share one small plate of food. Another 2 follow ups and another 15 minutes later, the second kids plate of food FINALLY arrived. From ordering the Kids food until arrival, it took ONE WHOLE HOUR for my niece's food to arrive. I understand that they eat free but what's the point if they are going to starve the kids?!? My sister literally finished her entire lunch set, while sharing it with the kids, before my niece's food arrived. The restaurant appears to be understaffed though it was less than half full. The kitchen also appears to be understaffed - while walking by there seemed to be only 4 employees in there, including a dishwasher. No apologies at any stage and while the food quality was fine, there's also definitely less food compared to my recent lunch set at the Richmond location. Luckily, I had won a voucher for the meal but it was difficult to decide how much to tip, as the service was lacking and the kids food took so long. I believe in tipping though but today's tip was definitely not as generous as usual. This likely will be my last time to this DolarShop location and will be warning my friend's and family to stay away. Guess we'll only go to the Richmond location from now on, which is too bad.

Not a big fan of it. Tastes pretty plain in my opinion. Not bland by any means but it was just ok in terms of taste. -The meat was fine. It wasn't fatty. It tasted like any sliced hot pot meat you can get anywhere. There were lamb, beef, pork, and luncheon meat slices available for this menu. There was a small selection of seafood available as well. I didn't really like the cod paste siu mai. The texture was rubbery and the flavor wasn't that great. The fish tofu, fish roll, and fish balls were fine. They tasted like any other fish balls you can get anywhere. There was also a small selection of vegetables available. The Napa cabbage leaves and winter melon slices were fresh and big. No complaints on the vegetables. The sauce station was vast and everything you could possibly want was there. There were no lines and the station was clean. Some places like Big Way Hot Pot provide simple sauce recipes for beginners, but there were no suggestions here. It would be nice if they added some suggestions because i'm a newbie when it comes to sauce combinations. A very small selection of hot small plate appetizers were available too. They served as appetizers for the hot pot or something more solid in case you want a break from just eating hot pot foods. I wish there was a bigger selection though. For the appetizer buffet area, there were lamb bones with meat in some type of brown and red sauce, the classic vegetable spring rolls with sweet chili sauce, and deep fried mantou, which is basically a kind of crispy fried dough bread with condensed milk. They had a few cold vegetable appetizers like chinese Kelp salad which was slightly spicy, and wood ear mushrooms which were slightly sour. I didn't like either of them. Also, i noticed from past yelp reviews that customers were offered free ice cream. We were not offered any. I guess they discontinued that bonus. As for the service, I don't really have any problems with the service here. The staff were pretty good at refilling the water jug with sliced lemon even though it wasn't really empty. We didn't have to wait long at all for our hot pot ingredients. It all arrived within 10-15 minutes. One little hiccup was that we ordered udon but the staff gave us thin ramen noodles by mistake. Our server changed it to the correct udon noodles after we pointed it out. As for the place itself, it was pretty empty with a couple of solo eaters and a couple tables with families. The dining area was clean and roomy. We were seated at a booth by the window but the blinds were closed since the sunlight was too bright. Washrooms were tucked away far in the corner so it was a bit of a walk but they were clean, not too small, and empty. Overall i would give the food 3 out of 5 because nothing stood out to me. The food was just average all around. The service was fine, but the price was great at $20. In fact, I think $20 per person is by far the cheapest, best value all you can eat hot pot deal in the Vancouver area. upon entering, the first thing we noticed was the strong smell of gas. it lingered in the air,…read moresharp and a little unsettling. the restaurant also felt unusually cold, with little ventilation, which made the first few minutes uncomfortable. once the boiling cauldrons started, though, the room slowly warmed up and the chill faded, though a few in our group mentioned mild headaches early on. the space itself was bright and lively, filled with neon light and movement. reflections bounced off the tables and walls, giving the room an almost electric energy. servers moved constantly, weaving between tables, and the place filled up quickly with conversation and steam. menus were large, simple to read, and easy to follow. dinner included a drink, milk tea, yakult tea, or green tea and a dessert choice, either a fudgesicle or a revello style ice cream bar. the sauce station wasn't as extensive, but did have fresh minced garlic, sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar, chili oil, cilantro, green onions, sesame paste, rows of fresh ingredients and condiments let diners mix their own combinations. the sauces were flavourful, versatile, and worked beautifully for dipping or for stirring into the soup. each broth came with a generous set of ingredients: chicken ball, fish tofu, fish ball, corn, enoki mushroom, fried bean curd skin, lotus root slice, tomato, napa cabbage, quail egg, and a prawn. the bowls provided were small, so we learned to transfer ingredients from the large serving bowl into the pot, and later use that larger bowl for the soup itself. parking was free but limited, tucked under cover next to cm chicken in the newmark building. overall, despite the initial gas smell and cold temperature, i enjoyed the meal and the interactive experience. once the pots started bubbling and the table filled with colour and steam, it became warm, lively, and satisfying, the kind of place where flavour makes up for the flaws.

Ordering was a bit annoying as they do it by tablet instead of order sheet, so my friends and I couldn't just fill out a form. We often had to wait a few minutes to find someone to top up water or soup or take our orders. The sauce station is pretty good, with the usual expected fixings. There is also a hot food station with chicken karaage which is nice. The food selection is very decent. Their claim to fame is their meat ring which surrounds the pot. See photos. This more for show, and is obviously a relic from their non AYCE days. Selection is a bit lighter than the competition, but there were no glaring omissions. I recall back then that the server came around and topped up my soup with more broth instead of just plain water. This made my broth quite salty, so I didn't care to drink the soup afterwards. Other than that, I remember that we really enjoyed this restaurant. The selection of foods was impressive, even for me who doesn't eat meat. Fast forward to now...this was our first time coming back for AYCE Hot Pot. Things have changed a bit since our previous AYCE Hot Pot experience here, and not really for the better. First of all, it used to be one of those places where you would get a piece of paper and use a pencil to mark what you want from the paper. Now they have an electronic tablet for you to order from. Not the most user friendly system. For instance, there's a section of the tablet that was marked "Vegetarian." This section only contained about 3 items and they were all Tofu/ Bean Curd type products. I was scratching my head thinking, "Where are all the vegetables?!" After a bit of thinking and wandering around, I finally figured out that you're supposed to get up and collect the vegetables yourself. There's a bar with veggies and other ingredients. You take a bowl and some tongs, and then put the ingredients into your bowl. So...some things get ordered form the tablet, and other stuff you have to collect yourself. Would have been nice if someone had explained this to us when we sat down. As for the veggies themselves...the selection is much smaller compared to what it was several years ago. Sufficient enough for me to still have a good meal; however, it paled in comparison to the selection of veggies we had to choose from on our first visit here several years ago. As for non-veggie items...a lot of items you get the first order free and then if you want more, you have to spend extra money for that. Ummm...that's kind of a bummer. Kinda defeats the purpose of AYCE which is to pay one fixed price and then eat all that you can for that price. I had Sukiyaki broth this time; thankfully the server came around and topped up my pot with plain hot water this time, instead of more broth. So I was able to enjoy drinking my soup this time. Also, the meal comes with one free ice cream and one free cotton candy. The ice cream was a choice of pandan or vanilla. The cotton candy comes from a machine. You get up and press the buttons on the machine to serve yourself. The machine takes awhile to warm up each time, so...a bit of waiting involved. Overall...the food and service were good; however, with the selection of food having gone down and with them charging extra for additional orders of certain items...the value is not as good as it was before.
