I stopped in this past Saturday to grab a bagel on my way to the gym. I expected it to be crowded but was pleasantly surprised when the little shop only had a few people in it. Even though I was next in line to order upon walking in, it took the workers about 10 minutes to even take my order of a simple toasted bagel with cream cheese. Meanwhile, I was treated to the workers building the bagel sandwiches/orders whispering out names that didn't appear to match the people that ordered food and lots of confusion. I finally was able to order and luckily received the bagel after waiting only another 5 or so minutes. I escaped to eat it across the street and while the bagel was decent, it wasn't worth $4. This is a solid bagel place - better perhaps with bagel (breakfast) sandwiches etc. than a pure bagel and cream cheese. The prices are quite high but that's a function of the area I think. The jersey sandwich might be my favorite breakfast food of late so that might bias me here into an extra star than is perhaps deserved. Ive been here 3 times. Bagels are good. But not exceptionally good either. I would compare them to Exodus bagels opening soon in JP. Service is always quick and fast. Very nice staff and cute place. But the bagels are eh. I live down the block so would love if they could be tweaked. They are just a bit hard and are even kind of like that at 6am when fresh. The top part is soft even though the crust is still kind of hard to get through, and the bottom is firm. Maybe it's the water here, maybe I'm spoiled with NY bagels. But I'd do a fresh Breuggers over these. Not sure if they are baking the bagel and that's causing the firm bottom. I do like what they are doing. read more

Take your hard earned money elsewhere... At some point you need to look at yourself and say, "why do I continue to validate their poor service and egregious prices with my repeat business." For the third time in a month I was overcharged for my order (excuse: training the person on the register) and my order was incorrectly prepared. We got the wrong product and were overcharged to boot. The cashier tried to credit me but couldn't get it right. I loved this little place! It's great for grabbing a bite and walking since there is very little space inside. The cashiers are all very sweet and my bagel sandwich was perfect - the eggs were fluffy and the bagel was toasted just right. It's not too expensive for the quality, either. Disappointing is an understatement... the bagels are fine, but there are far better bagels in Boston with better customer service. Walked in and the individual working the register said nothing... literally just looked at me. So I said hi and then ordered. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese bagel. I should have read reviews on here first- the egg was over cooked/clearly microwaved and inedible. The worst part is that the bagel was like $8.56! I thought I misheard the price when it was rung up! I'll be sticking to Sorelle which has amazing customer service and great quality for a better price. Don't bother! I went there on Friday morning before work for a bacon, egg and cheese. It was $8.50 for some reason and wasn't worth it. The worse part was the wait!! The owner (I presume) was fast to take your order and money and then the 4 gals behind the counter and two guys in the kitchen were busy being busy. They kept "moving" around but nothing was happening. The place was packed but clearly not because it was good. It was because they move at glacier speed. This is the best bagel in New England, hands down. I consider myself a bit of a bagel connoisseur, and Better Bagels simply can not be beat. Yes, it's the most expensive bagel I've ever bought, and by a good amount. Sure, they haven't figured out their operating process which leads to unnecessarily long waits. I won't argue with the feedback on the breakfast sandwich quality, which I would attribute to the overall operating process. That said, it's worth the price, it's worth the wait, and for a real bagel enthusiast it's about the bagel, and I can add my own cream cheese or bacon and egg at home. While the bagels are good, their customer service is anything but.... It's difficult enough when 1 person who doesn't speak or understand English is trying to place your order (which is incorrect almost all of the time), but when you're trying to explain the corrections to your order to 1-2 additional staff who also don't speak or understand English, you end up paying for and receiving product you didn't order. Today, instead of 6 whole-wheat everything bagels with a container of plain cream cheese and a small side of veggie cream cheese, I received 6 enriched wheat everything bagels, 6 plain whole-wheat bagels and 2 tubs of veggie cream cheese. Admittedly, I go in sometimes just because I love a good mystery (what will I get today?!) but they're a bit too pricey to do that often! The good: With the low bar set for the greater Boston area bagel scene, this is definitely the best tasting bagel in the area that I've had. Coming from NYC, it baffles me why there aren't more bagel places serving better product, but this is the closest you'll get to an NYC bagel in town. We went to Better Bagels after someone in our group found it and said they were good (she got a bag of plain bagels). We walked over. Bagels were good, breakfast bagel sandwiches were marginal. Biggest problem was one of our bagels wasn't right. Was supposed to be a salt bagel with basil butter and we got a plain bagel with ham and cheese. Didn't discover it until we were already back at our hotel. Ok - someone made a mistake. But then another couple in our group said the exact same thing happened to them, except that both of their breakfast sandwhich were completely wrong. So... not a freak mistake. My daughter has a peanut allergy and the girls working there were so accommodating. The bagels were really delicious! Would recommend for a quick breakfast if staying in the area. read more

terrible experience placed my order it was never made...stood there and watched others place orders after me and get served, the worse part was none of the people at the front even asked if i was all set, like they didint notice i was standing there after so long (wether done intentional or unintentional thats bad customer service). I ordered my breakfast for a 9:15 pickup at 8:11 in the morning. I got there at 9:05 and stated I was here for my order. The man at the door took my name and said it would just be a minute longer. I understood since I was 10 minutes early. I watched about 10 people come and order in store and receive they're order while I waited. At this point it was 9:30 and I still hadn't received my order. I ask again what is going on with my order, only to be told it'll be ready in just a minute. My order was only two sandwiches by the way, nothing crazy. At this point I'm being told my order is ready only to realize it is not my order. When I go back inside to tell them the man at the door gives me an attitude immediately as I walk in saying " what's wrong with your order now"? I simply stated this is not my order it's not my name on it. I ask how is it that I'm the only one here waiting when I placed my order over an hour and a half ago for 9:15 and it's 9:35 and I still haven't received it. After waiting another few minutes he finally comes out to give me the correct order. Which when I went to eat it just a few minutes later it wasn't even hot. It was barely warm at best, which makes me think it was ready the whole time and they just didn't care to even check. The food was good, not great. Do not go here for a sandwich! I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try them myself. Their sandwiches are simply not worth the money, you could get the same (if not better in some cases) bagel sandwich at Dunkin Donuts. I don't mind paying $8 for a bacon egg and cheese on a bagel, but if I am doing that I expect everything to be fresh... NOT microwaved like everything was. The eggs turned out rubbery (at least Dunkin Donuts don't most of the time) and just don't taste good. I will admit the bagel itself is good, but the sandwiches are too expensive for what they are. Either they need to change how they are made to justify the cost, or significantly lower the cost. Being a "local business" can only go so far. TLDR: If you want a breakfast sandwich go to Flour (if you don't mind the cost, but want something worth it), Metro, or even Dunkin Donuts if you just want the same quality as you get here but actually the right price. This spot in the Seaport is going to need to up their operations game if they want to stick around though their prices for bagels are pretty steep so they may be able to squeak it out on that. The amount of time it took to get ONE bagel with cream cheese (I don't even think I had it toasted and took ages) and a coffee was insane relative to how quiet it was when I went and how many employees were working. Any time I've walked by it looks like a nightmare in there so i just keep going based on this first experience I had when it was non-busy & overstaffed . It would be a go-to spot for me if it wasn't a struggle to get one bagel unfortunately. Better Bagels needs Better Service Updating from 2 to 3 stars after a couple returns when it was 100% empty on off-hours- only time I'll consider going in. I was pretty let down by this place. I wanted a lox bagel and they were out of lox which is annoying but understandable. When i asked the cashier if they had the option of adding avocado, she gave me a snappy answer like, "does it say that on the sign??" which is unnecessary. She could've just said no. Trying to give these guys the benefit of the doubt. I do respect what they're trying to do, and I get that it's hard opening up a business (especially in this field). But the first few weeks have sort of been a mess. Been twice. The first time, they were out of bagels at 11am. Went back at 10am a week later, and they only had plain. I asked for lox, and they had run out of that as well. Frustrating for a bagel place to really only be open until like 930. Making matters worse, I ordered a plain + cream cheese, and it legitimately took 20 minutes. Seriously - 20 minutes. They seemed to have a very poor system for making the sandwiches + getting them out to customers on time. The bagel itself was OK. Nothing amazing. I've been following Better Bagels via their pop-ups since their early days. I could not have been happier when their brick and mortar location in the Seaport opened. While I don't frequent the Seaport often during the breakfast hours, I try to make special trips there on occasion because the bagels are that good! Thanks to Sam and James for stepping up Boston's bagel game (and also for not running out of bagels too early in the day)! Best bagel option in the area. Bagels with spreads are tasty. The main criticism and what will be the downfall of this place is the cheap eggs and bacon/meat. The eggs are premade, look like the were poured out of the bottle into a mold. The bacon is precooked and rubbery. I was highly disappointed when I saw my bacon egg and cheese bagel being made with them having the egg, the bacon, and a slice of cheese stacked up on top of each other and being put into a microwave. A "New York" style bagel place requires a flat top grill and ready to order eggs and bacon cooked in real time. I don't understand all the effort to make fresh on site bagels, but then to fall so short this way. read more

This place could be one of my favorites if it wasn't for the staff. Everyone looks miserable like they're being held captive. You get up to the counter and they just kind of stare at you. And they clearly don't get along with management in the few interactions I've witnessed. I don't even mind the high prices, I just don't want to go in there because the vibe is terrible and I worry amount the quality of the food coming from a place where the staff is so visibly over it.
