You will love the food here if you prefer lighter Italian fare. The pastas come with just enough sauce to coat your pasta so as to not drown out the flavor and texture of the underlying pasta. The beef ragu is the choice for meat lovers. The pizzas are served on an ultra thin crust. There are no "supreme" pizza on this menu, so if you like your pizza loaded with everything under the sun, head to Pizza Hut instead. We tried the pizza of the day which came with three types of cheese, prosciutto and a wad of butter on each slice. Although I am a huge fan of butter, I didn't care for the butter on my pizza, so I removed it and ate it with the complimentary focaccia bread instead. The portions for the desserts are small, with the exception of the panna cotta (which is their best seller). The apple torta and the vanilla bean ice cream with espresso (not listed on their menu but was available) were personal sized servings and not good for sharing. I am not an expert on wines, but the two other people on my table were, and they were disappointed with the wine selection. There weren't many wines to choose from, and the wines that were available we're either cheap or ultra high quality. They don't have anything in between. They also commented that the wines were grossly overpriced. A bottle of wine, a pizza, 3 pastas, and 3 desserts for 3 people came out to $61 per person including tax and tip. The service was awesome, the food came out hot, and it was delicious. A little pricy, but deserving of 4 stars overall. read more

Gem of a place. Had a wonderful time celebrating my wife's 50th birthday. Great food, intimate atmosphere, and exceptional service.

Bernini Honolulu is Japanese influenced Roman Italian cuisine. The original, in Azabu Juban, right down the road from Roppongi Hills, is a modest place with an emphasis on charred thinner crusted pizza and lightly dressed pastas. This Honolulu outpost is still light fare, with a rather simple two page menu of primarily starters, pizzas, and pastas. Portion sizes are suitable for two to share. A larger table would find themselves getting small appetizer sized shares of the pastas. The food appeals strongly to Japanese nationals - you will often find more than half the patrons to be Japanese visitors or ex-pats. An ahi carpaccio starter dressed with Sicilian lemon, tomatoes, and micro greens, or the antipasti plate of the day is a nice beginning. I'd recommend any of their creamy risotto from their seasonal menu as a primo course. I had a simple but satisfying Girolle and portobello mushroom risotto topped with shaved Parmigiano. The housemade fettucine of white wine braised quail topped with Perigord truffles is so good it should not be shared! Skip the limited chicken or beef secondi - have this and move on to dolce and espresso to finish. Yes, parking can suck. I've always dined early and been lucky. I find servers here to be attentive and engaged. They'll usually ask if you're interested in a pasta or dessert that may sell out quickly and happily accommodate beverage requests. The owner often stops by tables to inquire on your satisfaction. If she is at the front she'll greet you on arrival and thank you when you leave. This is light satisfying Italian fare. read more

Booked a table for my birthday dinner. I had the set menu for everyone with choice of entree. Everything tasted good and I specially liked the pasta. However, the service seemed not being able to catch the speed. There was a lot of waiting time with empty table. For $100/person, they need to make sure the service and the speed is matching with the price. I like their food. So might come again to see if they have improved. read more

My favorite Italian restaurant in Honolulu. We went for celebrating our birthday. Staff are friendly and very nice. Restaurant was busy last week Wednesday. Bernini is only open for dinner. You better make a reservation before you are going. Parking is located in front of restaurant by Waimanu St. Parking space is limited to 8 cars, but there is another restaurant parking near by. I always order Uni pasta and pizza. Taste great. I ordered truffle risotto first time. It was cooked perfectly!!! Rice was cooked right firmness, not too mushy not too firm. Price is $45 and portion is not so big but many truffles on risotto. It might worth $45 for birthday dinner. It's expensive but I enjoyed it. Celebrating birthday night here is a great idea. read more

Okay, so it's the Friday before the Honolulu Marathon on Sunday and I tell my friend that I think she should eat pasta tonight to carb load for the marathon that is less than 18 hours away. She chooses Bernini Honolulu. I've never been to Bernini Honolulu but it looks like it has good reviews on Yelp so I'm game to try it. I check out their menu online and I'm excited to see that they have a King Crab pasta - The KING of all Crabs in a pasta for me - YUM! I love King Crab and I love seafood pasta. So I was very excited with giddy anticipation to think that I'm going to have a seafood pasta with big hunks of King Crab meat for $24. Of course, we made reservations, and although I was 20 minutes early, I was able to find parking directly in front of the restaurant in the small parking lot and was even seated early. We started with their tuna carpaccio and then I ordered my King Crab pasta. Very quickly some bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar were served with our drinks. The tuna carpaccio arrived a short time later. Presentation was excellent but the slivers of tuna seemed small to me. Nevermind because my King Crab pasta was on its way. After leisurely finishing our appetizer, our main courses were served. I was disappointed. Check my picture. There are a bunch of tomatoes on top of my King Crab pasta. Do you see any King Crab ? I didn't at least not in the dim atmospheric lighting of the restaurant. So I thought I'd better take a picture and examine later. Apparently there are very tiny shreds of king crab meat throughout the pasta. I was very disappointed. Nevertheless, the service was excellent even though there were unfortunately also there at the time of the Honolulu Marathon so they were many, many very loud vacationing marathon runners drinking and having a great time because they're going to suffer in a couple days. It was uncomfortably loud but I figure it's just an unusual night because of the upcoming marathon. So dinner for two which included two glasses of wine, 1 appetizer, and 2 entrees totaled about $100 plus tax & tip. Not bad but I really felt it was over priced based on total dining experience. Service was attentive and accommodating. Food presentation good! Food taste and value sub par. I would probably not return again unless I had to attend some function. read more

People there were very nice. The service was great. Parking was challenging, so be prepared to walk a couple of blocks.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this hidden gem while in Honolulu. We wanted to go to a fine dining restaurant, but most of the ones we looked at were fully booked ): But honestly, so happy with coming to Bernini. They had great service & the food... omg it was spectacular! We had the "ROSSINI" - WASHUGYU FILET MIGNON, FOIE GRAS, POTATO PURÉE, PERIGU SAUCE, & TRUFFLE and the special menu Angus Fillet Carpaccio with Onion Vinaigrette and Aioli for the main dishes. The GRILLED HOKKAIDO SCALLOP WITH FRESH TOMATO AND BASIL SAUCE as an appetizer. Lastly, the earl grey creme brûlée and mango passion fruit tiramisu for dessert! Absolutely loved it! Will definitely come back next time we come here for vacation read more

Ok Bernini has redeemed itself. I've been back a few times now, and the food has been on par every single time. I don't have to worry about taking out-of-town guests to Bernini because I know whatever they order, it will taste great. My favorite is their mushroom pizza. So crispy with the perfect flavor. Just one thing.... your food is so good, can you please at least bring out warm fluffy bread? read more

I can't say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant. Every plate that was brought to our table was better than the one before. All the flavors complimented each other. The wine selection, while small, was thoughtful and the flavors paired well with their food. The pizza was AMAZING, along with their skillfully prepared seafood. We've lived on island for 2 1/2 years, and this is hands down the best seafood we've had on island. To top it all off, everyone serving there was so kind, thoughtful, helpful and on point tonight. I can't say enough good things about the service we received. Thank you, Bernini, for a wonderful anniversary dinner! read more

Initially came for a business dinner, enjoyed it so much, I had to share the experience with my wife. Parking a bit tight but doable. Customer service absolutely perfect. Wait staff and manager very attentive. Menu is small, but what we did enjoy was done perfectly, leads me to believe everything else is done to the same level. Price reasonable for for semi- fine dinning. Onolicious!!!! Highly recommend. Will be back and often for sure. Used open table app to make reservations. Super easy. read more

I had made reservations a few days prior. Me and my girls needed a night out to really catch up and have some wine. I got there first and I was shown to our table where they asked what kind of water I wanted. They had mineral so I jumped at that. The menu is clearly custom and seasonal so that's awesome. My girls showed up a few minutes later and we started with wine(sorry I can't remember which but we liked red and white wines) we each had about 3 cups. Than to start we got the scallop dish. It was to die for. Scallops were cooked perfectly and very tasty. I will say they were very small and the arugula thrown on top was weird but I can complain. We finished 2 plates of them. I got the catch of the day which was the Chilean sea bass. My friends had 2 different pastas. We all had to try each other's and mine was definitely my favorite LOL. No ones food was bad I just really like fish. While we are eating though the staff changed out our silverware often which was new for me to experience. It made me feel safer to be honest. They consistently checked on us and answered all our questions with ease. Finally we get to dessert and coffee. I know I had the panna cotta but what my friends got were specials I believe. So good. So creamy. I did like this place but I'm never coming back. It's overpriced as sin, small portions and a very small menu. It's not worth it at al read more

I've always passed this place while on my way to Ala Moana Center via Pensacola and I guess I've mentioned this a few times to my friends, in that they took me here for my birthday dinner a few days ago. To make this review easier, I will break it down into a Pro/Con list: PROS: Classy, rustic and intimate setting. Easy to find (when Pensacola ends, you turn left and it sits on the left hand side.) The risotto I had was one of the best; The rice was cooked nicely, there were shaved pieces of truffle and the Kahuku corn was roasted perfectly. I wish there was more! CONS: Outrageous parking area. Waitstaff is iffy (very attentive or not--there were actually 2 accidents on tables next to us.) Portions are quite small. I know it's an upper-class place, but when compared with the service, it didn't quite match. House bread wasn't that good for an Italian place; it was a rosemary focaccia that they "toast" prior to serving, but I feel like it's just old bread toasted to bring life back Into it. They don't have comp. birthday dessert and don't serve/cut your cake either. Not too accommodating in lights of birthdays. FINAL WORD: It's a good place for fushioned Italian, if you're not too hungry and not worried about price. The parking sucks but if you get there at opening it should be ok. Don't expect the setting to match to service for most of the time. read more

If you've ever been to Japan, you know they're nuts about Italian food, and they put their own subtle Japanese spin on Italian cuisine. Since we enjoyed the food at Arancino, another Japanese-owned Italian restaurant, Bernini was definitely on our list. I made reservations for Bernini a couple of weeks ago but I guess the good seats get booked up quickly. Or they somehow knew we were poor. Because they seated us at the worst two-person table available. It was situated right in front of the kitchen door and POS systems. Between the wooshing of waiters entering and exiting the kitchen and extreme heat emitting from the kitchen, it was kind of a terrible place to sit. We asked to be moved and was moved within a matter of minutes. Believe me, I am not paying this much money on a meal and sitting in a place like that! We were re-seated in an ancillary dining room that was much cooler but we were still next to the POS systems and waiter station, even though there were empty tables all around. Go figure. The meal was off to a promising start with warm, buttery, and delicious focaccia bread. A cold glass of Stella pinot grigio from Sicilia helped very much. I had the porchetta as my appetizer. This was a homemade slow roasted pork on a bed of arugala with a (I think) balsamic reduction. Loved the hint of smoke and the not-too-sweet reduction. The Molokai sweet shrimp tartare with roasted eggplant puree and homemade shrimp infused oil as his appetizer. The dish was very refreshing and light. The uni pasta. I tend to get the most popular dish at a restaurant because I figure, well it's popular for a reason. It should taste good. This pasta was tasty and perfectly al dente. One notable trait to the dish was that it was extremely hot when served. This was a good thing because uni pasta gets fishy tasting as the temperature decreases. The uni sauce was not overpowering. I think I prefer Arancino's version, which is creamier. The risotto parmigiano with red wine braised Maui venison. This was excellent and also perfectly al dente. My macchiato provided a rich finish and the affogatto was also very good. Overall very good experience. read more

This place was really yummy overall but there were some things we didn't love. First, the yellowtail carpaccio was not our favorite. It was a touch fishy and the pairing with sundried tomato wasn't the best. The caprese salad was very yummy and the pesto sauce added a nice touch. The truffle pizza and filet had great flavors, very much recommend. I also highly recommend the snow crab pasta, I would make a note that the pasta was very al denté, maybe it was just mine. read more

Returned with the new owner/s and was very, very disappointed. Quality has slipped and execution of dishes has is not up to par, and the ingredients have changed. Prices and quality and quantity have made Bernini not a good value anymore. Still dislike how push a $1.50 bottle of S. Pellegrini mineral water from Costco and sell it for $8/btl. Especially when you see an entire Japanese tourist family of 8 or 10, each with their own bottle. I wonder what word they use to describe their tap water, which is perfectly fine? read more

This past weekend I finally was able to try out this lovely italian restaurant. It's totally a hidden spot that most people may not know about. It's been around forever but it's only of recent that I heard all about it. We wanted to celebrate my friends graduation and thought this place was fitting for that. I went with 2 of my girlfriends and it was our first time here so we didn't know what to expect, we just heard that the food was great. Our server was very nice, however, there was a slight language barrier that made it hard to communicate our order. We ended up with the wrong pizza due to this. It would've been nice to have our order repeated back to us so that we would've have had this issue. We didnt want to complain about anything but it was obvious that we were surprised at the pizza we received as it was not what we had ordered. The server was watching us from afar but never took the initiative to approach us to see if everything was okay. Also not sure if bread is something you have to ask for since everyone seemed to have it before us but I feel like it should be something you automoatically offer to your guest especially at an Italian restuarant. Initially when we ordered, my friend asked if they had bread, specifically garlic bread and the server said no but instead of offering any bread at all which is what we were trying to ask for, she changed the focus to what entrees we wanted to order. Never got bread until I asked the food runner after our food was recieved. Food- wise, everything I had was delicious. I ordered the mushroom truffle risotto on special. It was very delicious. My only criticism was the portion size for the price that you pay. The risotto was a very thin layer on the plate. After a few bites, almost half of the risotto dish was done. I probably took one bite every few minutes in order to not clean my plate before all my friends with their generous pasta dishes. I literally savored each bite as though my life counted on it. It was yummy so I honestly thought, you get what you pay for until I received the bill and found it was $45. Maybe if the portion had been the double, this price would have been acceptable. The Spicy Chicken Carbonara was very tasty and unique that others I'ved tried and the Snow Crab Pasta was great as well. I recommend these along with the risotto, but it will cost you a bit more than you might expect. I wanted this place to be one of my go-to places but unfortunately this experience could have been much better. The service could really be worked on. However, the food was good and I'd like give this place another try in the future. read more

I wanted to give you my experience and take the time to write a review for the Restaurant BERNNI In Honolulu. I arrive at the restaurant to park my car on Saturday 7 th of January 2023 . They actually have few spot on the front but the spaces are so small very difficult to park when you drone a SUV BMW Mercedes oh big big car . Anyway they need a valet parking just 1 person to take care of all the arrivals of customer's and also it's more chic for this kind of restaurant . They do have a parking in the back but he make more sens to have a valet parking that was my first time and I really wanted to try because i adore Italian food . The restaurant is absolutely beautiful the lighting is perfect. I love the bar the staff extremely polite cordial super helpful very very sweet the staff is remarkable. I will go back for the staff and the environment. I invited a very good friend of mind for a long time and we start with a glass of white wine and a glass of red vine . The vine was absolutely delicious . Quality price for the vine was great . We did order a tomato mozzarella I love this apetizer I do a really good one at home when I have guest . The price for this dish was around $ 23 US dollars I don't remember excately but around that price . Our waiter was absolutely very professional and carrying very nice personality. anyway when our waiter bring the tomato mozzarella as a firsr appetizer oh my god ! I'm not kidding I thought that was for my little kid that was ridiculous no way Very very very very tiny tomatoes and very very very very tiny cheese mozzarella. I look at this and I say that ridiculous. Not even this olive on the top and the chef forgot the basil you always have to put basil No the chef doesn't know how to make the classic tomato mozzarella. They should removed this dish from the menu . That was the worst tomato mozzarella in my entire life from Paris Los Angeles New York Miami .in fact the the restaurant TAORMINA in Waikiki as better appetizers . It's true I go all the time . I even say to the waiter that was not good And he answer me what we can do to improve I thought that was nice from him no attitude I told him let's have something else another apetizer And I decided the omelette with truffles if I remember that dish was $ 65 us over price I think Good really good but really over price . For just eggs and little bit of truffles when you think about it at Morton's at that price you have something exceptionAl . Then after we order 2 pasta 1 tagliatelle bolognese that was delicious and myself a spaghetti with crab it was ok just ok nothing special I forgot the taste already . Anyway at the end i was disappointment but I order a cappuccino and ask for the bill . They bring me the bill and I love cash I always pay cash when I go for diner . I hate to pay with credit card I pay cash I give $ 300.00 for a total of $ 220.00 I ask for change 10 Minutes pass nobody come i thought they forgot about me in that restaurant they never carry cash what it is ? We. are not yet at the crypto Money we have cash and actually is Better to have cash on you than credit card no ! They were looking everywhere for change oh my god the waiter came back apologizing and I give a tip of $ 50.00 dollar tip for him not for the food only for him his personality . And he was really great . I beleive this restaurant is good for the Asian market because they don t know what is really Italian food I understand is fusion but still they need to improve . And over price for the quality and forget about the tiny portion for kids . I will definitely go back at the bar having a pizza and a good glass of vine but not for the food . I'm from Paris i have been to all the best Italian restaurants in Milan Rome Paris and I know what is Italian food . Personally the best is TAORMINA in Waikiki quality and price and of Course the one at the kahala also but much more expensive. This is why I recommend TAORMINA in Waikiki the best . Sorry but it's true Eric read more

I had been wanting to try Bernini after hearing great things about their uni pasta, and I was not disappointed! The restaurant itself is very small and cozy with a romantic atmosphere. I noticed most of the patrons in the restaurant were speaking in Japanese. The service we received was excellent, including a wine specialist who helped us choose a wine for the table. FOOD: We began with a appetizer, which was good. We ordered the fresh sea urchin (uni) pasta, the beef ragu linguini, and some sort of risotto that was their special for the night. All the dishes were great! I am a huge uni pasta lover, and Bernini's is definitely one of the best I've had!!! We weren't going to order dessert but the server convinced us to try their Monte Bianco as it was a seasonal special and I'm so glad we did! My dad even ordered grappa, an after dinner digestif which took us right back to Italy. Overall, I highly recommend Bernini if you want a fantastic Japanese-inspired Italian dinner. Must try the uni pasta!! read more

Walked past this restaurant one night looking for dinner options and passed it by as it looked to fancy for how we were dressed. We went back the following night and so glad we did. Was not overly fancy as we first thought. Everything was delicious! There were very unique items on the menu that we tried such as the cold peach soup which was amazing. The pizza was one of the best I've had and the pasta... The only thing that could use improvement is their wine list/adult drink selections otherwise I would have given it 5 stars read more

My absolute fave pizza on the island. Super into the noscia (sp?) - white pizza. Sausage, mushroom, walnuts and add a poached egg!! It's birthday dinner level! The spicy salami is also a winner. Crab pasta surprisingly not my fave. Mentaiko and uni pastas are fab if that's your thing! read more

An indulgent night in a nondescript building on Waimanu street. Attentive yet unobtrusive service. Successfully executed Italian cuisine intwined with Japanese style. You can't quite put your finger on it but that intrigues and prompts return. Bernini is one of my top Italian choices in Honolulu. Everything is well-executed, from food to environment to service. You can host a large party, private party, date, or family dinner. There is the main dining area with an open kitchen to the side and a large room in the back and a small room off to the side. It is romantically lit but not so dark one would need to use their phone flashlight to read the menu. The back rooms are more nightly lit than the main dining area. I absolutely love every dish here! Amazing since I'm not the biggest fan of cheese (I know why am I at an Italian restaurant and raving about it?) that in itself speaks volumes to how well prepared the dishes are. How carefully thought out the ingredient mix and amount is in every dish, that flavors blend together and highlight each other's strengths. Nothing is too heavy nor tasteless. I would eat everything on the menu so here are my favorite must haves! -Caprese Bernini - simple and light. The olive oil with fresh multicolored tomatoes and burrata is only the beginning. -Tuna carpaccio - the Sicilian lemon sauce is a winner! -Norcia Pizza - any pizza you get here is going to blow your mind but this is my favorite. The crust is thin and crisp and the mozzarella and mushrooms with a bit of truffle oil is ... so deliciouso!!! I could eat the whole pizza myself and not feel sick. The ingredients are fresh and not overwhelming. -Ricci di Mare - the BEST uni pasta. It's not too heavy and not creamy like others. Just order it. Noodles are perfectly audante! Trust me you won't want to miss this. - Dessert - tiramisu, Mille crespelle (crepe cake), and panna cotta. The best of the best. Or be simple and just have gelato. You can't go wrong. But be careful you don't overeat. You need to come, eat, and conquer. This is a must visit place. read more

Beware the unexpected! It pains me to write this because the food was really exceptional, but the service and setup make it unsuitable for fine dining. The dining room is very small and intimate which is usually a lovely thing, but unlike most fine dining spots on Oahu, this one will let people bring in screaming babies and toddlers. And when that happens you are stuck with nowhere to go but out. We asked to be reseated but alas there are no other seats! Other diners were desperately trying to plug their ears while the staff just allowed the banshee to wail for an hour. Even after they finally left, there was no effort at service recovery despite the entire restaurant openly suffering and casting distressed looks to one another. The food was so good though that I thought maybe it could be a good later night spot, but sadly they ran out of sashimi and foie gras before 7pm! My guess is after 8pm they just start nuking up chef Boyardee when the rest of the menu is gone. So we're left with truly excellent food, but a choice between uninhibited screaming children if you dine early and half the menu sold out if you dine later. Sadly we won't be back until they fix these issues. Too many other good spots around that either forbid children under 5 or have a well stocked kitchen...or both. read more

The food was OK, but for the price point, I was expecting better. We started with the focaccia bread was which dry. For appetizers, we had the onion soup and mushroom salad. The salad was OK but the soup turned out to be the stand out of the night. It was creamy yet light! For entrees, we had the mushroom pizza, uni pasta, crab pasta, and clam pasta which were all fine, but not amazing. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and the Hojicha Catalana, both were good. The most disappointing part of the night was the service. The hostess was nice but our waiter lacked personality and attentiveness. He wasn't very helpful with ordering in terms of offering suggestions, his explanation of dishes lacked enthusiasm, and he wasn't attentive to our needs (i.e., filling water glasses, we had to ask.) Also, we discovered the next morning, that one of the dishes that we asked to be packed to go didn't make it into the bag. Again, not great service. Overall, I would give 3 1/2 stars if I could but because I can't, I'm giving 3 as I can't give 4 with the level of service provided. read more

Great restaurant. Amazing food and service. Yes, can be a bit pricier but the food and service are quality. The onion soup was refreshing. The Rossini filet mignon was amazing and so was the uni pasta. We would have ordered more but we were on the run. But definitely a great place to check out. read more

Good Italian food and reasonable prices. Service 5 stars Our server was very friendly and helpful. Service was excellent. Value 3.5 stars We didn't break the bank with appetizers, main entrees and dessert. Wine by the glass was pricey. Food quality 4 stars Berkshire pork foie grois 4 stars Chicken rosemary 4 stars Tagliata 4 stars Desserts Monte Bianco and gelato 5 stars. Portion sizes are just right but for larger eaters you might need to order more food. Quality and taste are spot on. Parking 2 stars Very tight parking. Better to park on the street or take a short walk from Ala Moana Center. Reservations recommended. Dressy casual restaurant that's cozy yet accommodating for larger parties. Try them out and enjoy. read more

Bernini has been on my go-to list for a while and I finally had the chance to dine here a few weeks ago. I will admit that my expectations were high considering it was always hard to book a table and friends and visitors have spoken highly of this restaurant. The first thing I am going to get out of the way is the service. The servers do not have dedicated sections so they are assisting everyone. This could be a good thing for guests who want their dinner to be quick but if you are looking for server engagement throughout the night, this is not the place for you. It felt like we had a different server touching our table every 5 minutes asking the same questions. My boyfriend asked for a whiskey neat from one server and another server who delivered our drinks brought out whiskey on the rocks. After ordering our food from our original server, we received our first appetizer which was the Beef carpaccio with onion and apple vinaigrette (which was excellent!) but then the food runner realized we never received the bread with olive oil/balsamic vinegar so she brought that after. Once we finished the bread and appetizer, we realized we never received our second appetizer, the scallop carpaccio which was actually recommended at the beginning of the night. We decided not to remind them because we did not want to throw off the night even more. Our main entrees were the Ricci di Mare (uni pasta) and the Tagliolini (mushroom truffle pasta). The uni pasta was tasty but I think it could have used a bit more Uni and less tomatoes for $39. The sauce in the Tagliolini was on the thinner side but the texture of the pasta with the truffles were delicious! It may have been an off night when I went but I was really looking forward to enjoying Bernini. The food was not bad but the overall experience could have been better. When it comes to Uni pasta though, I think Taormina's is the best on island! read more
