Short version: I don't recommend any locals go there - a bug flew in one of our water glasses, a bug flew in one of our beers, and the uni pasta and clam pasta tasted like they cost 50 cents.
Long version: A handful of negative moments within my table's dining experience warrant this poor review. Both the Uni Pasta ($38) and clam pasta had undercooked noodles. The uni pasta noodles were bearable, but the clam pasta noodles... we were very tempted to send back as they were much harder (and they're the same type of pasta noodles!) Both pastas had very little taste. The best way to describe the uni pasta is.... hard noodles and sea water. Bland sea water. The uni is barely on the dish... the amount of uni they put on the dish was equivalent to the size of a pinky nail.... for $38! And the clam pasta just tasted like noodles and warm water.
Where the real negativity comes in.... there were little bugs flying around our table the whole night (DO NOT GET SEATED IN THE BACK LEFT TABLE WHERE WE WERE -to be very specific, I remember above our table, there's a picture that says "aurora" on it...if you see it, ask to be moved, I don't want you having the same bug problem)
While eating our appetizers, a bug fell in one of our glasses of water. The waiter took it and gave a new one.
Then, while we were eating our dinner, another bug fell into one of our glasses, this time, into one of our beers that were half full. The waiter came, offered no apology, and took the glass away. We were still charged for the beer even though most of it was wasted. Isn't that upsetting?!?
Lastly, we were cold at our table because they had some type of vornado fan, placed a few feet away from us, pointed at our feet. Maybe that was their attempt at pushing the bugs away?
Now... for the part of the dinner I did enjoy! Thanks for the free pieces of bread. And thanks for the free scoop of ice cream to celebrate my wife's birthday. THE NORCIA pizza was actually good, and the appetizers tasted decent as well. We had the tomato and mozzarella appetizer and the anchovy salad. The reservation process was also very easy... although I'll be upfront in mentioning we will not be using it again, as we have no plans on returning.
Overall, I don't understand how this place has such great reviews. We were the only locals there (the rest were all Japanese speaking customers) and I don't recommend any other locals go there as you'll be sorely disappointed in the food quality and the price (and possible bug issues). I'm not a fan of CPK... but this place was worse than CPK and they charge triple the price.
Our receipt says our server's name was Nathan... but I don't remember what his name tag said so I won't assume it. read more
