Been thinking about ordering from here for some time now, finally took a gamble, and lost spectacularly. My actual complaint is about the food. It's objectively bad. I got the Chicken Ouzi and Lentil Soup. The soup was bland and tasting slightly of something unpleasant, I couldn't believe someone could mess up lentil soup, but they did. The main disappointment was in the Chicken Ouzi. First of all there was barely any chicken inside this "Bedouin Pie", and it was stuffed with rice heavily flavored by something strong and immensely off putting, I think cardamom? Some very strong spice that you would only come across in infrequently in life - there is about half a pound of it in there. I really tried to eat the thing but gave up and offered it to my wife, she just said "ew... why does it smell like that?". So I threw it all in the trash and ordered a chimichurri steak from a different place. What a disappointment! read more

Badawi's is authentic middle eastern food. My family eats from this restaurant at least 4 times a month. There Oozi and Merguez platters are fantastic. I love their Babaghanoush too! They also bake fresh Arabic bread on the premises. The service is top-notch. Lastly, it you are concerned with how staff handle food during Covid-19, this is the place to trust. I visited Bedawi Cafe for a late lunch. It is a small space with perhaps 8-10 tables. There were takeout menus on the counter so I grabbed one to make my choice. The man at the counter suggested I sit and he would take my order. I ordered the lentil soup and the lamb shank pita sandwich. He brought some hot bread before the meal that was filled with hot air from whatever method was used to heat. When I attempted to tear off a piece, hot steam escaped and scalded my hand. I proceeded much more carefully after that. The soup arrived and was flavorful but very thin. The sandwich followed. The vegetables were fresh and tasty and the tsadilki sauce was creamy and flavorful. The lamb was very mild and lacking fullness in flavor. I was presented with a bill and paid without leaving a tip as I had not wanted table service and would not normally leave a tip under those circumstances. Before I got halfway to the door, the waiter chased me down and essentially demanded a tip. He said "We are a full service restaurant. If you cannot afford a tip, you should not eat here." Rather than creating a scene, I reached into my pocket and pulled out a few singles before leaving. Totally unacceptable on the part of the restaurant whether they thought the lack of a tip was inappropriate or not. I love this place! Go here at least once a week and get a chicken platter to go. Comes with a pita, chicken, rice, and some great salad! The service is also stellar! I still remember how the third time I stopped by, one of the brothers behind the counter already knew my order. Only have 2 complaints really: wish they gave me a little more white/red sauce, and that the to-go box makes it difficult to mix this type of food. Food itself is great and couldn't recommend more! We do quite a bit of seamless-ordering from these folks so can't speak to the in-restaurant experience. After living in Cobble Hill for decades and getting used to the middle eastern places over there, moving to Windsor Terrace was a bit of a let down in that small regard. We basically order the same things from Bedawi that we ordered from our old Cobble Hill spots. The pita pizza is delicious (oddly, the chicken one is by far my fave) and the assorted plate is a great deal. Their honey/semolina cake is tasty. Bedawi proves that the stretch of restaurants along Prospect Park West can aspire to more than mediocrity (I'm looking at you, both sushi places, Chinese holes in the wall, Clemen's, and all pizza places). It also recreates a truly Middle Eastern atmosphere with its Bedouin tent-like canopied back patio. The food is remarkably fresh and remarkably cheap. The best thing here was probably the warm, fresh pita bread, which was thinner and crisper than I'm used to, splitting the difference between pita and a warm, soft flatbread if you will. I had the falafel platter, which at $7 is about half the price of its counterpart at Alfanoose. Unfortunately, Bedawi didn't seem to have the recipe for falafel to compete with the big guns in this city, but everything else on the platter--a fresh garden salad, creamy hummus, tahini sauce, and copious amounts of warm pita made up for it. Next time I will try a different protein. I also tried an iced mint herbal tea steeped from dried mint leaves, which was the perfect compliment. Service was very gracious. read more

So this was my first time at this place and I had a pleasant experience for the most part. The food: (in order of most liked to meh-so-so) Spicy Lamb Pizza($10): thin crust, not too oily, great flavor, but I wish it had more pieces of lamb. Chicken pizza($10): same as the lamb (but I liked the lamb tad bit better) the size of the pizza is enough for 2 semi-hungry people to share if more food is ordered as well. 1 whole pizza would be enough for a hungry-hungry person. Chicken Platter($10): superb chicken. Cooked just the way I like it - a bit charred and seasoned very well. Rice and salad was alright. Chicken ouzi($13): it's a unique taste. If you don't like spicy food, you will enjoy this. If you like your food spicy, I wouldn't recommend it. Mint tea($2): I always like mint tea. This was no different. The Service: We went in pretty late - around 9:30pm. Aside from one other customer, it was just our group of about 7 people. I have to say the service was slow. I wish someone came to check on us as we were sitting in the garden area. Some of us were waiting for quite some time for a water refill. However, when the nice man was serving us, he was very pleasant; brought a nice homey, welcoming vibe. He also served us complimentary dessert (a dry cake type of dish with sweet syrup drizzled over).How nice of him! It wasn't too sweet. I would recommend it. The Decor: They can definitely improve it. My new go to spot. The place is very nice with a backyard however we didn't sit there since it was raining. It's like a cheap date night for girlfriend instead it doesn't feel cheap at all with their food looking amazing. Price is very reasonable and on a weekday, there's really no one there around 7. I guess it's a takeout place plus fine dining. Well long story short, it's a wonderful place. I hope they can play some American music but their tone makes the place traditional in a sense. Love this place so Much, my favorite thing is the lamb pizza it's sooo good and flavorful. The crust is chewy and the cheese is stretchy. Labana is very creamy, the little salad you get is so good the pickled veggies are crisp and juicy. The brothers are the nicest guys and truly know their customers. They have a juice drink I love and idk what it's even called but they just know their customers that they know what you like. They have a great family and great food. Feasting in Summer Garden As we were searching for a quiet restaurant to celebrate the new art project, we came to the seasonal retreat at the Bedawi Cafe. We wandered into a surprise garden. It was newly decorated with potted plants and strings of mini lights. In the quiet atmosphere, a backyard was transformed into a mysterious garden. We sat down by the last table and joined the visitors to the garden. The scene recalled moments in Rome in another summer--the yellow painted wall of a building outside the tall window of my old fashioned hotel. Our dishes added to the aromas of the evening. The marguez platter and chicken platter came with a flavorful falafel. The large, hand rolled pita settled on the basket like an unusual fish. Its shape kept on changing in the cool night air. I can't believe I haven't written a review yet for Bedawi Cafe. This is pretty much the absolute best place to get food in Windsor Terrace. Every time I eat here, it's a serious struggle to make a decision about what to order. I usually end up getting the chicken ouzi, because it's one of the most unique dishes I've ever eaten. It involves a ton of chicken & rice wrapped in phyllo dough, plus a big salad and pita bread (their pita is something special). It's super filling, so it typically ends up being enough food for two meals. However, their pizzas are also amazing! Since this is a Middle Eastern/Jordanian place, the pizzas obviously aren't your typical New York slice; instead, they're made on pita bread! You definitely should try one. My favorite is probably the chicken pizza, but the simple tomato and cheese option is also incredible. You can't really go wrong. And of course, they do platters and pita sandwiches perfectly. I love the seasoning on their chicken, and their falafel couldn't possibly be any better. Also, their appetizers/sides are all so good! The hummus is my top choice in that category, but everything is great. All of their dishes feel really wholesome and homemade, and there are so many healthy options. They don't serve alcohol, but it's BYOB, which is fun. If you're not in the mood for alcohol, try their delicious tea or the Bedawi Frappe! I get delivery a lot of the time, and it's always ridiculously fast, but I also love coming here in person! Especially in the summer - they have a beautiful garden in the back. It's always going to be the mezze for me - all year long. I get the potato salad, the lentil-bulgur mix, chickpea/spinach salad, the baba ganoush, labane. it's a combination of dense, complex flavors I love: salty, savory veggies complimented by the rich, creamy yogurt sauce and eggplant/garlic puree. they add the crispiest, caramelized onions on top of some of the veggies. can this lily be more gilded? and they christen both the baba ganoush and the labane, which is a gorgeous serving of intense yogurt, with a perfectly brined olive. Such a cute interior. Their menus look like they were binded there which was a nice touch. I ordered the falafel with baba ganoush and it was delicious. Side salad was just ok and the dressing was kind of watery. The restaurant did not rush us out so we were able to stay and talk for a while once we were done. The staff told us once we asked for the check that they were only taking cash since their machine was down. Could've told us a little sooner and eliminated a bit of frustration. I would go back. Came here with some friends after running a race in Prospect Park. Naturally, after crossing the finishing line and being that it was around 8pm, we were completely famished. We walked down Prospect Park West and found this cute little café with an outside garden seating area. This seemed like the perfect place for the evening. We sat in the garden and looked over the menu as we waited to see our server. The menu included a wide array of hot/cold appetizers and entrees at a very reasonable price. We ordered the hummus and grape leaves to start which came out pretty fast. So far so good, but as we were about five minutes into our meal, smoke starting slowly rising from the kitchen. We didn't think much of it until the smoke quickly generated and it became much harder to breathe and see. One of the workers insisted that everything was okay, but we all chose to evacuate as the idea of inhaling Carbon Monoxide during the remainder of our diner did not seem very appealing. We all left the place coughing and with headaches. Such a shame for a nice experience take a turn for the worse. Moreover, the fact that there were two fans by the back door to the garden makes it evident that these little fires may occur often. My boyfriend and I stumbled on this little place while searching for some Thai food. He lives in the area and I used to, so I'm surprised I haven't been before! We were drawn in by the delicious aromas and the cute decor. Their prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are good. And best of all they have a backyard with outdoor seating! Be warned they have some pipes pumping incense (or smoke?) into the air but it didn't bother me too much. I never regretted leaving my phone behind so much as the garden was gorgeous and peaceful, and the food was delicious and nicely presented. I was walking around my Windsor Terrace neighborhood and I decided to go in since this has been on my must try list for a while. The place is small, but this new guy I'm dating decided it would be nice to sit in the outside garden while we ate. I didn't mind it since it was such a nice night out, but the constant bug zapping noise was really grossing me out. They had an electric bug zapper right above me, and I thought a fly would fall on my head while I was eating which would totally give me the heebie jeebies. Nonetheless, I played it cool.... for the most part. The food was good, don't get me wrong, but the new guy kept saying it was delicious. He must not be eating the same food I'm eating because it wasn't all great. The falafel was not crispy, since I like my hot balls fried right out of the deep fryer. My lamb pizza was flavorful, but the crust was burnt so I wasn't able to eat the best part. The highlights of the meal were the babaganoush and the bakalava, because they were both delicious. Fresh pita + baba= YuM. The service here is wonderful and I would go back again for more food. Seating was very slow for such a quiet night. We were led to a very dark garden area that has the potential to be a beautiful, intimate setting at night, but was a bit creepy and hard on the eyes. There were only two other tables, yet we waited nearly 20 minutes to place our order and receive water. At least we were given a bottle opener upon seating to take advantage of the free BYOB service. My dining partner and I ordered the chicken and merguez platters - both very typical North African / Middle Eastern dishes. Both meats were overcooked and tasted bland. Tahini, baba ghanoush and hummus were all on the weaker side as well. I will say that the pita was refreshingly light and crisp, compared to many similar joints. We usually visit Zaytoons on Smith Street for our casual BYOB/Middle Eastern fix, but decided on Bedawi due to the location, backyard and lower prices. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. It's BYOB, so we grabbed a bottle of wine from down the street. We sat in the backyard under a canopy with a little waterfall behind us. Nobody was back there - had the whole place to ourselves. Food was great! I had a falafel sandwich for $4.50 and it was really big. I even had leftovers for lunch the next day. My friends got veggies and lamb and everybody loved their dishes. Service was wonderful. The owners sent out a free dessert for us at the end. I will definitely be here allll the time!
