It is always a pleasant experience at Beacon Bread Company. Wonderful staff and amazing food. I had the Bang Bang Chicken sandwich and it was amazing! The Chicken was perfectly fried, and it was juice. The bun was soft and the spicy pickle added the perfect contrast to the ban bang sauce. I paired it with the Mirabeau Spritzer cocktail which was a nice complement to the chicken sandwich. It was a rainy day so it was not so busy so I was able to enjoy my lunch with out the crowd. I am being generous with two stars because the coffee was good. We were told that we couldn't be seated (even though there were empty tables) because the kitchen needed "time to catch up" (it was 10am on a Monday). We left our number for a text, which we were told would be in about 10 minutes. After 20 minutes we checked in and they said, oh - that text should have gone through. There were five empty tables when we were seated. Other tables were offered water and drinks taken, we sat waiting. It seemed so arbitrary, some people were given menus, some were not. Some had cutlery, some did not (we were one of the some in both cases). We eventually ordered and my husband's breakfast was completely cold. Eggs, sausage, toast, everything. I had avocado toast and the bread was barely toasted and the "poached" eggs were overcooked like hard boiled. I mean, we all know we want the runny yolk right!? The only inquiry we had from anyone working there was, "sorry guys, it's really busy" and "would you like a to go box"? No thanks! Three friends and I visited Beacon for the weekend, and at least two of them announced that their meal at Beacon Bread Company was their favorite meal, and for some of us, our favorite part of the entire trip. Their waitress was a little confusing - she watched us deliberate for a while just to tell us that their special (cheddar buttermilk biscuit with gravy) was out. We had originally wanted two orders of the biscuit (we were very excited), and were super disappointed, but then she came back and told us there was one order left. One of my friends described it as the best news we had all day. The biscuit definitely met our expectations, and you could really taste the gravy in the sausage. It came with scrambled eggs, which were meh, but not enough to ruin any other part of what was a good meal. We also got the chocolate babka french toast, which was so decadent and lovely but not cloyingly sweet. It was so warm and watching the butter melt on it was so lovely. We also got a side of corned hash which was well-seasoned and flavorful. All in all, a great place for brunch. read more

The interior was super cozy and mildly eclectic, with walls painted in an usual green-blue shade that I don't think I've ever seen on a wall, which worked surprisingly well. We got French Toast on brioche bread, which included the option to have toppings of banana, strawberries or chocolate (I chose chocolate); and pancakes, that had ricotta and strawberry toppings, which we got on the side. The French toast and pancakes themselves were delicious, and the chocolate chips were definitely from good-quality chocolate. The strawberries were apparently not super fresh-tasting, so I'm knocking off one star for that. For our beverages we got coffee and orange juice. The coffee was decent, and the orange juice was particularly good, and somehow fruitier than normal fresh-squeezed orange juice. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful, they arrived to take our order very quickly, and they were very on top of seeing when we needed something. When we told them we had to leave soon because we had somewhere to go, they came out with our breakfast quite quickly, which was really appreciated. We had an eggplant sandwich on baguette that they bake fresh on site, eggplant fresh and crisp and delicious. And we had one of their signature cocktails, a martini with house-made hot sauce and olive and pickle juice. It was .....SO GOOD. And served in a vintage one-of-a-kind coupe glass. I walked in with a slight hangover, I walked out stuffed, happy, and with a free cookie thanks to a Yelp check in. This place might not offer much in the way of decor, but I couldn't care less about the barebones atmosphere when the food is fresh, delicious, and homemade with love. Seriously, they make everything in house here: the high quality bread, the delicious hot sauce, the ketchup (I'm usually a Heinz guy all the way, but it was solid enough), and the surprisingly fantastic corned beef hash that I gladly piled all over my simple but satisfying egg sandwich. Our niece lives nearby and swears by their avocado toast, and my wife even got a soup (French onion) and salad (Caesar) combo (against my better judgment), and that was good as well. I wanted to like this place so bad. The staff were sweet and sincere - there were just several logistical and culinary issues. When we first got there - it was awkward. They do both sit-down/eat-in and takeout. But both are serviced by the same slow moving line (which was exacerbated by patrons not having their order together when they got to the register). So we had to wait for several people to place or retrieve their order before they even added us to the wait list for a table. And we went through a more abbreviated version of that when they called us and told us our table was ready. Even with being short staffed, there are simple layout, triage, and communication options available to address issues like this. When we waited outside, several tables we being accosted by bees. It appeared that the harried wait staff was sympathetic to situation, but weren't able to effectively re-seat the...beeseiged patrons ... or get rid of the bees. Note to staff: when your customers and their food are under bee threat - that becomes a top priority worthy of decisive action and explicit management intervention. We finally got inside. Our server was delightful, attentive, and responsive. The prices were pleasantly modest. But the standard breakfast staple selection was anemic. One standard egg + hash browns plate, a plain omlette, and a western omlette. Not even an Eggs Benedict (even though they had Canadian bacon). But we ordered. Sadly, the food was highly inconsistent. The clam chowder on special was excellent. The grilled vegetable sandwich my significantly better half had was also very good. But her iced coffee was....buttery. Weird, and not tasty. My regular coffee was a bit off - potentially the result of an attempt to supplement the brew with some spice. My eggs and the bread were uninspiring. The hash browns were unlike any I've ever had - but not in a good way. They had some weird spice in them that wasn't working. Last beef - it was loud as a mother in there. The people at table next to us shared an uprorious laugh and it was so loud we wanted to kill them. That's super messed up. When the acoustics cause the reasonable and righteous joy of others to make you wish death on them - there is a problem. Acoustic tiling, white noise generators - something needs to be done. So between the weird waiting games, bee shenanigans, food fails, and noise-induced heachaches - it wasn't for us. But it didn't make us angry - just sad. Plenty of other people were feeling it - so maybe it's us, or was a bad day, or we picked the wrong 10% of the menu. The place and the people who worked there had a really good vibe. After hiking Mount Beacon and cycling around town the day after Christmas, we were looking forward to a hot and hearty brunch. When we arrived at Beacon Bread Company, we were made to wait for half an hour without any hot beverage to warm us up. After we were seated, we were made to wait another half hour for our food to be prepared. The Beacon Bread Company was so cold, we were forced to order a tea while we waited for our food. It took ten minutes for staff to put hot water and a tea bag in a cup and serve it to us. The staff never asked to add hot water to our tea while we waited for our order. When our food finally came out, the portions were tiny, tepid and over-salted. We could hardly taste the food with all the salt the cook added. The highlight of the meal was eating the pencil-thin spicy pickled cucumber slice. It was the only item that we could remember from the Beacon Bread Company that had the texture and taste of real food. We were so hungry, we just decided to scarf down the gruel and leave as quickly as possible. When we got the check, the restaurant added a surprise "credit transaction charge" on the bill even before we decided to use our credit card. This financial practice seems really deceptive (to add a percentage charge for food after we ordered, without any prior notice, and even before we decide to use a credit card). The staff didn't bother to pick up our check with our payment, so after waiting, we decided to check out ourselves. The electronic options to tip during payment at the counter had suspiciously high percentages, which forced us to customize the amount so we could pay the appropriate tip. Would not recommend eating at the Beacon Bread Company unless your taste buds fell off from frost bite and you don't mind paying scammy charges on your bill. read more

Came up to Beacon for an Anniversary trip away from the city. We ordered to-go and our breakfast from here was actually even better than we expected. The focaccia is absolutely to-die-for! So soft, fluffy, and delicious. We also got a croissant which was one of the better ones that we've had before, also very nice and soft!
