My girlfriend surprised me with dinner here to celebrate my new job, and she could not have picked a better place. We had been wanting to go here for quite some time, but we never had the chance to go, so she surprised me with a reservation and we went for dinner. Bastone is a mozzarella bar, basically meaning, they specialize in different forms of mozzarella cheese. While they do have a bunch of mozzarella cheese, there are so many other options as well. To start, we got a charcuterie board, the arancini, and this other appetizer that I can not remember the name off. I believe it was topped with shredded lamb. The charcuterie board, I believe, you can a small or large board. I can't remember how many cheeses/meats you get, but definitely ask your server. I think we got 2 meats and 2 cheeses. I highly recommend getting the burrata as one of your cheeses, it was EXCELLENT. The board comes with honey, some crackers, olives, artichoke, and 2 small pieces of bread. I recommend getting some of the focaccia bread to eat with your board, you won't regret it. The arancini was excellent as well. It was hot, and had such a nice crispy-crunchy bite to it. The other appetizer we got was great as well. I wish I could remember what it was, but feel free to show your server my pictures and they will be able to let you know. For our main course, we got 2 pastas. We got the Carbonara and the Agnolotti. Both pastas were incredible. They tasted fresh and were very hot. I personally liked the carbonara more, because I love the crispy pancetta bites. A good thing to know about the pastas, is that on somedays, they do pasta happy hours, where their pastas are half-off I believe. We definitely want to go back during one of these happy hours to try some more of their pastas. We also shared a glass of red wine recommended by our server. It was a Sangiovese wine that paired perfectly with all our food. Lean on your server for any drink or food reccs, that's what we did, and we were not disappointed at all. Bastone is a great place to go for either lunch or dinner. It's a nice vibe in there and can be great to go on a date, with a group, or even by yourself! Nothing wrong with indulging in some fresh mozzarella cheese and a glass of wine by yourself! I recommend calling the restaurant to make a reservation via the phone. I just want to shoutout #Bastone! We went there for dinner tonight. When I made the reservation, on Open Table, they asked if there were any special requests? I simply stated, 'It is my wife's birthday! Her name is 'redacted.' After we ate dinner, they brought out some Flan with a candle, which was nice. But then, they brought out a bouquet of flowers, with a card, that all of the staff signed! #ChefsKiss We've been to all types of restaurants from Hal's to Huddle House, and no one has EVER done that. I forget the names of the 3 cheeses, (two burratas and one mozzarella) but the mozzarella brought me back to my childhood in New Jersey and running around stealing the cheese off the grownups plates because I could never get enough! A group of friends and I came on a Tuesday night and we had a reservation. Reservation was totally not needed as this place was PRETTY empty which was shocking. Bastone has valet parking and there are self-serve parking decks close by. Our party of 4 was seated promptly and we opted for the happy hour menu. My friend and I split the mozzarella platter and I ordered a carbonara for myself. The server made a comment when we ordered the mozzarella platter that he'll have to make some changes to get it to the happy hour price, but we were all okay with it! The mozzarella platter overall was very nice. I enjoyed all of the cheese except the truffle cheese. I LOVE cheese and truffle and never waste food, but it tasted absolutely foul. Maybe a taste preference but my friend didn't like it either. When the server dropped off the mozzarella platter, he also dropped off this meat platter. We all looked around at each other knowing we didn't order it, but the server said it came with it?? Was a really nice gesture! My carbonara was just aight. It was a little above room temp, but I found it to be incredibly dry. It had the sauce texture of microwaved leftover pasta. The noodles are definitely on the firmer side of al dente and I didn't mind mine too much, but my friends noted their pasta just wasn't cooked enough and thought theirs were so dry too. Definitely needed more pasta water to emulsify the sauce. Honestly for $10, there was a LOT of pasta. I left with leftovers and honestly found it to be a great deal and I don't have many issues for it being $10. I would try their red sauce pasta next time. Was super excited to try out Bastone, but sadly it was such a let down the only thing keeping it at 2 stars were the pastas while everything else sucked. Parking in the area might seem like a nightmare, but there's options for valet at the restaurant and plenty of side streets and lots nearby. Our service started our great, but as soon as we made the decision to not get drinks (I know it's a wine bar but I'm not much of a drinker and I really just wanted some cheese and pasta) we were ignored most of the night. We started with the chef's selection of mozzarella which was fine, but $40 for 5 pieces of mozzarella is way too overpriced. I love cheese, but not at that price point. Afterwards, we moved to the pasta which saved this review! I had the bone marrow one while my boyfriend had the spicy shrimp one. Both of them were delicious and I'd strongly recommend them. Overall, I think Bastone was super overhyped and overpriced. Obsessed with this new addition to the west side happy hour scene. Came here for a celebratory happy hour with a couple of my college friends, who are regulars here. First, the indoor decor of this space is just stunning and immediately makes you feel like you are in a hip but artsy old-world hangout. The real star of this venue is their outdoor back patio, which is spacious, covered, has fans for when it's hot out AND heat lamps when it's cold. They've got the Covid-safe dining options down pat, which was clutch for us. First reason I knew I would like this place: staff that guides you through the menu with honest personal opinions rather than just what you want to hear! This helped me get one of the best spritz's I've ever had (spritz #3): light, refreshing, good touch of booze. It was perfection. My friend has been here too many times so she did our food ordering: a large mozzarella & charcuterie board, mortadella, and the fatt' di amano (an in house made mozzarella that was delivered to us STILL WARM.) I've eaten at so many fancy charcuterie places across the country (including so much time spent at several Eataly's) and this was truly some of the best mozzarella and salume I have ever had. Served with house-made focaccia, perfectly smooth and fresh tasting cheese and salty and perfect charcuterie- gah. I wanted for nothing in life after gorging on this amazing food. Fantastic date night spot! The cocktails were amazing, I started with a smoke and mirrors and ended with an espresso martini. We chose the medium sized board, which was fantastic. It offered two meats, three cheeses, focaccia bread and accompaniments. This was a great size as we were able to take home leftovers to have the next day. The pastas were also fantastic. Parking We arrived early and were able to park in front of the restaurant. However, they do have valet parking. Restaurant The restaurants decor is eye appealing, very modern, with a romantic type vibe. Food Unfortunately for me this is where we go downhill. We ordered the (Pork and Mortadella Meatballs). Mind you we had 4pm reservations. The meatballs came out cold and raw in the center. Our waitress was very accommodating and took the meatballs back. The manager also came and apologized. When she brought them back they were warm in the center. The meatballs had a great flavor, but still weren't cooked enough to my liking in the center. We decided on the (Truffle pasta from the cheese wheel). Very underwhelming. The gentleman that prepared the pasta had what looked like poison ivy (not sure what it was) on his right arm. I'm sure it wasn't but whatever it was it should have been covered. The presentation was nice, he explained everything he was doing. The pasta and truffle was just ok. When living in a city for an extended period of time, there is an inevitable churn that becomes evident of existing spaces transforming from one restaurant into the next, sometimes becoming hard to recognize and at others, allowing the long time city resident to find little nooks of design that remind them of something past. Phrases clamor, like "Remember this is where we sat on the first date back when this used to be..." or "can't believe that the bar area has moved to the other side." It is an enduring reminder of the cyclical nature of life, passing time and the ever present change that occurs uncontrollably, yet persistently, without ever asking the so said resident how they feel about it. Bastone opened in March 2023 in the former location of Bocado, with the new establishment ran by chef Pat Pascarella. It is certainly a unique concept. For starters, I presume that most people have not visited or thought of visiting a dedicated mozzarella bar. That's where an experience of Bastone brings an extremely unique proposition to a city of several notable Italian restaurants. Mozzarella selection is indeed very vast. While the tasting is fun, the house made mozzarella is the highlight and must be ordered separately from the tasting. Passing beyond the world of cheese, Calamari is the star of the show here. Savory and balanced to perfection, the crispy exterior that is just crispy enough without being too hard, the perfect level of spice permeates and the quality of seafood is evident. It is a wonderfully executed dish and probably worth a visit for that alone. A second close favorite from the menu are the snap peas with their greens, presented in a way that embodies springtime and generally appears as if nature landed itself on a plate. One area for Bastone to enhance is to get some draft beers. While the current selection of Moretti and a few others is good in bottles, it's hard to beat a cold glass of living joy. Sitting at the mozzarella bar is quite fun, allowing the guest to be closer to the experience of mozzarella and charcuterie preparation. The team here works quite hard to make sure guests asks are noticed and does everything possible to ensure that their visit is a positive one. I did notice a small disconnect that while sitting at the mozzarella bar, the bartenders tend to be on the other end where the alcohol bar is, thus it can be easy to forget about the patrons who are sitting seemly far away on the other end. That's another consideration, perhaps having dedicated wait staff for the mozzarella bar area instead of the bartender trying to double task. It's understandably difficult to notice that a guest might need something when they are sitting thirty feet away, at what is almost a different bar. As a whole, Bastone is a phenomenal add to Atlanta's Italian dining scene and is an absolute must to visit in West Midtown. read more

We had a group of 4 that had a terrific experience at Bastone. We ordered: - 2 types of focaccia bread- we really liked the cheese focaccia, and ordered a second one to eat with the mozzarella. I was really curious to try the rye focaccia, as I love rye bread. But it tasted more like whole wheat instead of rye, and we didn't really care for it. - Mozzarella tasting- excellent as expected. I enjoyed all 5 versions. - Salami- the calebrese was really spicy and very good. - Beet salad- a small portion but lots of flavor. - Cresc' tajat- this sausage based pasta was amazing! I asked for it spicy, and the chef mixed in some spices into the sauce (instead of just putting crushed red pepper on top). The flavor was so good. And I really liked the hazelnuts sprinkled on top, as it added some texture. We also had the mushroom vegetarian pasta, and a couple of other ones. Personally I thought the sausage was the best. As others have posted, the portions are on the smaller side. Wine was really good (they feature wines from southern Italy). We tried two desserts- pistachio panna cotta and pineapple cake. The panna cotta was good, but we didn't love the cake. Our waiter was Noah, and he was amazing! He was helpful and friendly, and in no way did he ever rush us through dinner. We were all in on the hype for this place. How can we resist a mozzarella tasting. The place was really cute and in a new and upcoming area in Atlanta. Great decor and very friendly service. Me and my wife both got cocktails which were delicious. We tried the mozzarella sampler which is a must. We probably wouldn't get this again though because we only liked a few of the mozzarella. The burrata in particular was divine. The eggplant was very unique and had an enormous amount of flavor. Did not have a crunchy top like I am used to but still very good. If you're looking for a trendy, comfortable Italian restaurant, give Bastone a try. The wife and I shared the buratta salad, which was phenomenal with peaches, arugula and jalapenos. My dirty gin martini was solid and she also had an exceptional gin drink - with matcha, amaretto and coconut milk. I opted for the cavatelli bolognese (really, really good) and she had the eggplant marina, which had super-thin strips of eggplant, lasagna-style (decent). The tiramisu was good, not great. Disappointing Experience at This West Midtown Mozzarella Bar - Bastone I really wanted to like this West Midtown wine-focused mozzarella bar, featuring handmade pastas and craft cocktails. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations. While we didn't order mozzarella or pasta--perhaps our mistake--I'm not convinced that would have made much of a difference. Atmosphere & Service The restaurant's decor was inviting, and we opted to sit at the bar. However, the music selection didn't align with the Italian theme, which took away from the ambiance. The service was fine but lacked attentiveness, which was surprising given the price point of the menu. The Food We ordered a selection of dishes, and while each had intriguing ingredients, they ultimately failed to deliver in execution. * Potato Croquettes (fonduta, foie gras, Kaluga caviar) $21 At $7 per croquette, I expected something indulgent, but instead, the dish was bland. Despite the presence of luxury ingredients, they were undetectable in taste, and the texture was reminiscent of undercooked roux--floury and underwhelming. * Snapfinger Farm Beets (Jimmy Nardello pepper relish, pine nut butter, torched citrus, smoked yogurt) $18 This dish had potential but felt more like a collection of interesting components rather than a fully realized dish. The salad needed more acid for balance, and the smoked yogurt lacked seasoning, leaving the flavors somewhat flat. * Atlantic Halibut (shrimp & black truffle stuffed morels, Penobscot Bay mussels, white soy beurre blanc, caviar) At $48, this dish was disappointing. The seafood was overcooked, and like the beet salad, it felt disjointed--more a collection of elements than a cohesive plate. * Chicken Roulade (sweet potato, green garlic, maitake mushrooms, sherry chicken jus) The chicken itself was good and well-cooked, but the dish quickly fell apart from there. The tempura-style maitake mushrooms were tasty but overly oily, and the sweet potato purée and sherry chicken jus were both coyingly sweet and felt like an afterthought. In fact, the dish would have been better without them. Final Thoughts For the price, this was a disappointing experience. While the restaurant has a promising concept, the execution--both in service and food--didn't justify the cost. Maybe the mozzarella and pasta are the stars of the menu, but based on our experience, I wouldn't be in a rush to return to find out. read more

For food, we got 2 focaccias, a mozzarella flight, one caldi, one insalate, and three pastas. We finished everything, but we felt full. Here's what we got: - Liguria Focaccia ($5): I think this one was the brown bread. I didn't see what was so special about it. - Barese Focaccia ($7): Very good. - Chef Selection of Mozzarella ($39): All delicious. We love cheese. - Arancini ($14): Good, but 4 balls for $14?! - Roasted Broccoli Caesar ($12): I wasn't a huge fan of this. My friends liked it a lot, but I thought it could use more flavor. - Campanelle ($20): Favorite pasta out of the three we got. The pasta itself was really beautiful. Honestly, had high hopes but left disappointed. First, my server was not very knowledgeable or maybe he was just a little scatterbrained but he seemed to forget my order or other simple things like "can I get some lime with my Coke?" "Can I get some silverware?" He also mixed up my cheese order. I just wanted to try the burrata by itself but instead he brought the burrata salad - which ended up actually being the best part of the meal. So, that's okay, but service was pretty terrible. The focaccia was alright. Nothing to call home about. I also got the lamb pasta which was overly salty for me and the lamb meat tasted really gamey. I also wasn't a fan of the sauce. The Mocktail I ordered - something with blueberry and ginger - tasted like cotton candy. I wasn't a fan of that either. We ended our meal with the cannoli dessert. The waiter didn't seem to be good at describing the desserts, so I just assumed it would be a normal cannoli. It wasn't. It was more like a chocolate chip cheesecake. Wasn't a fan of that either. Also, I thought it would be a more upscale restaurant with the prices being in the $30 range for the pasta dishes, but the seating was super tight and there was no dress code (everyone was in casual attire). I regret to inform you that this place is super disappointing :( We've been wanting to come for a long time and finally got to tonight. Parking valet is easy and nice outside- 4 bucks, NBD. We were sat and immediately ordered cocktails and apps- this is where we should have stopped while we were ahead. The charcuterie was impressive, and worth the 30 bucks, we also ordered the Salmon TarTare. Both were pretty great. We then ordered two pasta dishes, and they were just... off. Pasta was not fresh, or didn't taste homemade, which I would expect for $40. The most disappointing thing was that in between meals, no new silverware (even when you have fresh honey dripping off your knife) and the service was just not it. Food was OK. Mozzarella was good, but wasn't a fan of the pasta. The sauce tasted like it could have come from a jar and the pasta wasn't remarkable (not homemade or fresh made pasta). The entrees were pretty good - fresh ingredients, but the flavor pairings were a little unconventional. For example, the salmon was almost too sweet. Salad was fantastic - best part of the meal. I was looking forward to trying out Bastone for a while. I had an afternoon off and went for their happy hour. I'm glad I didn't pay full price. Even the $10 for the pasta was regrettable. This is the kind of place that people rate 5 stars because they spend a ton of money and don't want to admit it was subpar or they aren't discerning enough. A restaurant that skates by while serving mediocre tasting food to unknowledgeable people that want to say they've been there. I ordered the cacio e pepe and I couldn't finish it. It was overwhelmingly over seasoned as if the cook added pepper then forgot they added pepper and proceeded to add more- or they just don't care about the food they send out. I know, pepper is in the name. That's why I got it, I love pepper. I also know when a sauce isn't good and this wasn't good at all. I was very disappointed. Too salty too. Like, what happened here and how do you mess something so simple up so badly? When asked if I wanted a box I almost said no because I knew I wouldn't want to eat it again but I got one just to take home and have my partner try it. I've been a professional cook for over a decade with most being in upscale kitchens. I'm not ignorant to food and flavor. This was bad. For the regular menu prices this should be much higher quality. You can look at the photos of the cacio e pepe and see the lack of consistency. From the plating to the seasoning on top to the amount of sauce in the dish. A place like this shouldn't be so inconsistent. Or bad. Drinks were okay, the spumoni was not good but the berried alive was decent, albeit a little lacking. Bartender asked me a question then walked away when I was answering them because I imagine they weren't actually trying to hear my answer. I'm pretty quiet but don't ask me something then literally walk away when I'm answering you. Surprised me too because they were really nice when I got there but that wasn't cool. It actually hurt a little to be given such little regard. I don't want a conversation but I don't want to be treated like I'm not important at all. I felt like I shouldn't be there. I felt uncomfortable and one of my bartenders didn't even introduce themself. Complete apathy. The other one was good but that guy sucked and I can't even give his name, how unfortunate. The two bartenders were standing in front of my spot at the bar talking so I got to enjoy their full volume conversation. That's fun and uncomfortable. Why not go to the end of the bar and congregate like the rest of the staff. They did ask if I was good, to which I replied, "yes" because I didn't want to bother- I just wanted to finish my drink and leave. I should've sent the food back but I didn't want it refired, I wanted to leave the establishment, go home and think about how I wasted my time and money on what should have been a nice meal. I want to give it 2 stars because the noodles themselves were cooked well but that sauce was atrocious, like nauseatingly bad. Maybe it was an off day but I would not go back to find out. Overpriced and underwhelming. How this gets so many 5 star reviews is baffling. Though a bunch of them lack substance. Maybe the meats and cheeses are good but my experience was awful and I will never go back even if someone paid for my meal. What a bad time. I was genuinely looking forward to this and it absolutely sucked. I can't wait for my review to be buried like the other low star reviews- under a mass of fluff pieces that read like high school essays written by wannabe food influencers. read more

I am way overdue on this review for Bastone. I promised the servers I would post, so I hope they see it! I attended a work event last May, and was so impressed with the quality of the food, level of service and my personal experience. I arrived early for our event. I quit drinking alcohol during the pandemic, and Leo, the bartender made me an amazing mocktail using Seedlip. Christine was our waitress, and Leo made sure I had another mocktail during our meal. The food was incredible. I am also gluten free, and I did not miss out on anything! Christine recommended the GF Pappardelle with wild mushrooms, celery root and parmesan cheese. This was by far the best gluten-free pasta I ever put into my mouth. I plan to frequent Bastone in the future both for personal and work events. It's a great spot to entertain clients or celebrate a special event. Bon appetit! read more
