I finally made my way to The Consulate for a friend's birthday dinner after seeing so many glowing reviews online, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. This quarter's featured country is Singapore, so I was especially excited for the opportunity to try Singaporean inspired cuisine. One of the best surprises of the evening was that our group was seated in a private dining room for the birthday celebration. It made the evening feel even more intimate and special for my friend. Jordan truly made this experience exceptional. He was incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and cocktail menus and explained every item in such an approachable and thoughtful way. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does and takes pride in the experience he creates for guests. Because of his recommendation and description, I ended up trying an entrée I probably would have overlooked otherwise. I ordered the Queensland chicken from the Singapore menu and it was outstanding. The chicken was extremely tender and the sauce had the rich, slightly sweet flavor profile Jordan described, almost reminiscent of a bourbon style glaze. It was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I also decided to explore the mocktail menu and tried both the Elliot Carver and the Paris Carver Kiss. Both were refreshing, balanced, and crafted just as thoughtfully as a full cocktail. From the service to the atmosphere to the food itself, this was truly a 10 out of 10 experience. Edit: It's extremely strange and off putting that the owners argue with every review that isn't positively glowing. The food was bland and under-seasoned, and I'm not someone who prefers a heavy hand seasoning wise. If I were going to come back, given the owners inability to take genuine feedback without being snarky, I certainly wouldn't now. Also, how does the owner know I'm not native to Singapore? Or at the very least lived there for many years? Not only is the response insulting, it's borderline racist. I really don't understand the glowing reviews. This place was not it. We visited during Singapore Week before a show at the Fox Theatre. My friends and I all love Singaporean food, which made the experience even more disappointing. The biggest letdown was the Hokkien Mee. If you've had this dish before, you know it typically has a rich, savory, curry-forward flavor. This version tasted more like a basic stir-fry noodle dish with a faint hint of chicken broth. It wasn't badly cooked, but it lacked the depth and flavor that makes Hokkien Mee special. I ordered the Tau Yew Bak (crispy pork belly), which was good, but nowhere near the most memorable pork belly I've had. The accompanying slaw/salad was completely forgettable and lacked flavor. My friend's Sambal Snapper suffered from the same issue. It wasn't offensive, just underseasoned and missing the bold flavors you'd expect from a dish built around sambal. We also ordered the Korean BBQ Duck Confit appetizer, which honestly tasted more like pulled barbecue chicken than duck. It wasn't bad, just not particularly exciting or memorable. I also tried the mashed potato croquettes, which were fine. That's really the best word for most of the food here: fine. Nothing was actively bad, but very little stood out. To be fair, there were some highlights. The hostess was warm and welcoming, and our server was good. The 006 Old Fashioned (their non-alcoholic Old Fashioned) was hands-down the best mocktail I've ever had, and I've had plenty all over the country. Seriously, it was outstanding and worth ordering on its own. The restaurant itself is also absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, great service, a gorgeous space, and an incredible mocktail couldn't make up for food that felt consistently underwhelming. 3 stars. read more

It was a raining day in Georgia and the perfect evening to enjoy dinner at the Consulate. It was easy to secure a table for 5 on open table. I love bringing 1st time guests to the Consulate for dinner. I appreciate the 3 hour validated parking, the ease of securing a reservation, the consistent great service from the hostesses and waitstaff, and of course the always delicious food and cocktails for those who enjoy an internationally inspired dishes. My girlfriends and I enjoyed sharing the Kings Ransom charcuterie with our cocktails to start. My dinner club chose The Consulate as our locale for May & I was pleasantly surprised. Not only had I not heard of this restaurant, but it's smack in the heart of Midtown! Absolutely perfect location for a great dinner. We ordered everything on the new Singapore menu & everything was delicious. I really really enjoyed my experience at The Consulate. When I arrived, I parked in the garage and needed to walk down the stairs and around the stairwell to find the entrance. (That part was a bit confusing as there weren't any signs for guidance.) The place was decked out with momentos from around the world with a cute lounge for waiting. We made a reservation and was seated immediately. Our waiter gave us a great run down explaining the menu highlights food from a country for 90 days before changing to another country. We were ere exploring the Galapagos Island. I ordered the empanadas, jollof rice. And my friend had the snapper with broccolini and seasoned yellow rice. Everything was really yummy!! A restaurant that has on my list for almost a year and finally I gave it a try recently. Unlike most restaurant I have been to, this one specializes in "not specializing dishes": every 90 days they pick a lucky customer to turn the globe and wherever it stops they make the food there for the next 90 days. When I went there the restaurant was serving Galapagos cuisine. They also have a usual menu. Unfortunately because I am allergic to many seafood I ended up having the Ethiopian lamb tibs, and my friend got the Hawaiian short ribs. Both dishes were good. My lamb had a distinct spiciness and wax tender. The side of rice was similar to what you find in China, instead of those in India or Middle East. However, the short rib was too small in serving size considering its cost ($53). It was almost the same size as my lamb which cost. Inside of this restaurant was fantastic, featuring lots of decorative showcasing different parts of the world. Would be great for dating. The decor is very warm, beautiful and inviting. I thought the food was pretty middle of the road. Not very memorable honestly. I had the stir fry noodles from the Singapore menu. I love Singapore noodles and street noodles in general. I've been to several parts of Asia and I always specifically enjoy the night markets where I can try different noodles. I think these were ok. Though they didn't specifically note that they were Singapore noodles, i wish they would have leaned into the flavors a bit more. Maybe add the curry. I came to the Consulate with a work group which was the perfect occasion! A reservation is a must here and its definitely not the easiest to get but let me tell you its worth it! We had a Wednesday reservation for 7PM and the Consulate was extremely accommodating with our changing party size which we greatly appreciated. Once seated, the restaurant has a great vibe. Super intimate and easy to talk to the people you are seated with. When ordering, we opted to order a lot from the "visa" menu since these dishes aren't around forever! I got a great date based whiskey cocktail and we got a bunch of great appetizers. A mezze board of sorts with olives, chicken skewers and duck confit and it was all delcious! For my main entree, I opted for the lamb shank from the visa menu and wow the portion was hefty! The lamb was super tender and the mashed potatoes that came with it was a great combo. No meal is complete without dessert so of course we got one of each. The baklava was delicious, the cake was super moist and the sorbet was great. My bf and I try to come at once a quarter to try the new menus. Right now they have Jamaican through 4/1 (1 month longer than usual) which our waitress said is partially due to how popular the menu is. I know she's supposed to hype but the place was PACKED on a WEDNESDAY and this was perhaps the best experience I've had in all my years eating here. The coconut milk marinated rice and peas, jerk chicken, gift of the moons pork belly, escovitch, and island Shepard skillet were all wonderfully seasoned and packed full of flavor. Came here for the second time for girls night. The last time we went for the Galapagos menu, the food and the drinks were amazing!! We were so excited to come back! We were told about spin the globe night but we were given the wrong date and no real details so we missed it. Next step has been Jamaica. I'm Jamaican so I was a little weary but I was interested to see how they would create these dishes. Starting with the appetizers, we ordered wontons, the shrimp and bell pepper dish, and mushroom noodles with jerk chicken. We also ordered a round of drinks. The wontons were extremely dry on the inside, the only thing saving them was the sauce. I tasted no shrimp or pork it actually had no taste whatsoever. The noodles were udon noodles were super thick and it was a heavy dish because they gave you a great portion of it. I didn't taste any chicken and neither did my friend , but my other friend said she did. Everyone's drinks were OK nothing that I would rave about and actually one of my friends asked for a drink that was part of the last menu that they couldn't make in house because they have the ingredients they have on hand are for the menu theme I guess. For dinner I ordered the Bulgogi and we all ordered another round of drinks. This time two of my friends got the espresso martini which later ended up coming to about $24. A regular espresso martini, no additions! One friend liked hers, the other didn't but there were no refunds on drinks. I had wine that I paid standard price for at a nicer restaurant (which is honestly too much) at $18 a glass. The Bulgogi was not good. Both my friend and I got it and we said the meat was soft and crumbly almost like mystery meat and it tasted like nothing else but the goalie you couldn't even taste any flavor in the noodles. We lowkey were mad we spent $40 on that dish. Last was dessert. I ordered the cheesecake and my other friend got the sherbet. She loves a sherbet because she is vegan and I love cheesecake. It's an interesting cheesecake because it has an Oreo crust, pistachio filling, and I believe passionfruit jelly drizzle. The jelly made it quite tart and very interesting tasting. I was on the fence about it, one friend hated it and one friend loved it. Overall we said that we probably would not be back unless there was something on the menu that really made us excited. Came here for my birthday dinner a couple weeks ago and am obsessed! We came in a on Thursday and made a reservation. It wasn't too crowded when we got there, but it filled up! They validate parking in the parking deck next to the restaurant. Our waitress was great and gave great suggestions. I love that they switch their menu every 3 months for a new country. It was Egypt when we went. Everything was amazing! We ordered 3 things from the rotating menu, and 2 things from the year round menu. The momos took me back to Nepal - the flavor and the slight kick brought back so many wonderful memories, and the momo skin is of high quality. Mt. Kalish Cloud was truly a unique dish! I loved the presentation and the flavors were wonderful. The Kaukau Shrimp was good, but not quite something I could eat a lot of - the sweet potato mash became a bit much for me but was delicious in small quantities. Started at the bar - which has great bartenders and selection of spirits will not disappoint, plus tons of non-alcoholic offerings. The vibe is chill, a bit eclectic, a bit sexy, with a whole lot of nostalgia thrown in. The current journey is Jamaica. We started with the cauliflower - it was so tasty that we debated getting another one - it is the ENTIRE head of cauliflower too - with a scotch bonnet sauce (not that spicy, yet very flavorful). Best vibe in the city. So many things to see on the walls and even in the bathrooms! One unique aspect is the "waiting lounge" while your table is ready. Just super cool. Service was impeccable. The food was phenomenal. Every dish was vibrant, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Our server, Deja, was warm, professional, and one of the few highlights of the evening. Unfortunately, the front-of-house experience did not reflect the same level of excellence. We arrived on time for our reservation, only to be told our table wasn't ready. The restaurant advertises a two-hour seating limit, yet we waited nearly 30 minutes with no updates. Meanwhile, we observed others sitting and given menus. A couple sat at a table near the bar and given menus, though we were told those seats were for the bar. The inconsistency was glaring. When we were finally seated, it was at a small corner table with no acknowledgment of the birthday we had clearly noted in our reservation. It felt like an afterthought--especially for a special occasion. We addressed our concerns with the owner, who remained polite but surprisingly introduced race as a possible factor--something we never suggested. Our feedback focused on the delay, inconsistent policies, and lack of communication. When I clarified our wait was 30 minutes (not 15), the shift in tone was evident. To clarify: My husband never received the complimentary dessert that was later implied. In fact, I had to ask about a note on the check reading "Do Not Make" and still charged for it--which I kept. It seems the gesture was offered, but never followed through on, much like much of the service that evening. The owner stated that the server offered 3x, which was a blatant lie. Had I planned additional birthday activities, we would have been late and likely out money due to the restaurant's poor time management. I've dined at many fine restaurants across the country. Feedback is a gift--when met with accountability. I hope this review is received in that spirit. The owner commented on OpenTable: "Its always your own folks. ...so embarrassing" You're right--it is embarrassing. It's unfortunate to see a restaurant owner respond with defensiveness rather than awareness and maturity. Instead of accepting constructive feedback with grace, you chose to belittle and dismiss it. That's not leadership, and it's certainly not professionalism. If this is the standard being set at the top, it's no surprise the guest experience reflects it. Reputations are built not just on good food, but on how criticism is received and addressed. Edit: Your ignorance is showing. We were polite to your staff and you, even if you chose to be unrealistic and unprofessional. No one made a fuss, but as I've witnessed on previous 1-star reviews, you act the same. You cannot accept constructive criticism and choose to diminish, dispute, and dismiss feedback instead of being accountable and doing better in the future. I left a glowing review and shared ONE thing that made the night sour. You couldn't even focus on the one thing, but, so focused on trying to discredit the experience. I'm done responding to an owner that is clearly set on putting the blame on the patron instead of taking accountability and showing awareness for the inconsistencies. Edit: No one cares where you're from or how old you are. No one is being rude or unreasonable except for you. This is simply about the BEGINNING of the experience on THIS occasion at YOUR restaurant that we've been to SEVERAL times. Your lack of professionalism is showing and you're not understanding the ISSUE. Instead of taking personal attacks towards me, you should focus on the entire experience for people from beginning to end. Be open to understanding that everyone is NOT going to like your restaurant and experience. Just take accountability and keep it moving, it'll save a lot of headache and back and forth. First time here and will definitely go back. The vibe was really moody, in great way. Dark, rich colors and plush seating thoughout. While one side of the place was bathed in light from the large floor to ceiling windows and the other was dim and moody. Love the idea of a rotating menu that highlights cultural cuisines (the Visa menu) and a menu of mainstays (the Resident menu). We arrived on the last day of the Indonesian dishes. Our server Jordan was fantastic. Really engaging and walked us through everything. He made sure we had all we needed throughout our time. We ordered the Munster Mini's (Resident), the Sindhu Market Satay Skewers (Visa), the Breakfast in Bali (Visa) and drinks were the Moroccan Sunset (Resident) and the Bali Breeze (Visa). The food was so delicious. The Minis definitely paired well with the Worchester truffle aioli. The Skewers were well seasoned and the Breakfast was so flavorful. To compare the food with other places is difficult due to the unique ingredients and names, either real or made up of the dishes. Loved how easy the parking instructions on the website were to follow, and they validate parking. We were seated immediately loved the dim lighting and friendly waiter. Our waiter told us about the current country which is Tibet and which selection he recommended from the menu. I ordered food from both the residential and visa side of the menu. My husband and I stopped by The Consulate last Friday around 6:45. They were packed and we were a bit pressed for time because we had tickets to a show at 8. In comes Cindy, who saved the day! Cindy made excellent recommendations and got us our drinks and food in record time. We had the wontons with curry sauce, pepper shrimp, and lamb tibs. The food was a 10/10. We recently moved from DC and everyone knows that the best place to get Ethiopian food outside of Ethiopia is DC. But the Consulate gave our DC spot a run for its money on the lamb tibs. (We still love you, Ethiopic -- we'll never forsake you.) They were savory and tender, with some added crunch and spice from the herbs. I could eat three plates of this dish. The shrimp were my second favorite dish of the night. Also very spicy (VERY spicy), but delicious. When we go back, we probably will need to get two orders. I don't know if sharing one order of that deliciousness makes for a happy home. My husband loved the wontons. I wanted the sauce to be a little sweeter, but that didn't stop me from spooning it into my mouth soooooo... For cocktails, we had an old fashioned with a banana liqueur and a drink with a port ice cube. Hubs said it is the best old fashioned he's had in Atlanta. My drink was excellent, as well. Awesome spot for a date night. This is really more of a 4.5 overall experience. Definite 5 stars for the uniqueness of the concept, ambiance, and service. The food, while good, was nothing totally out of this world delicious especially for the price. Parking is validated in the nearby garage. The parking instructions on their website are very detailed which we really appreciated because we don't come down to this part of town very often and parking is always such a pain everywhere you go. We had made a reservation (a few weeks prior) for 7:30 on a Saturday night. The server Jordan was fantastic. He explained the menu, provided suggestions, and was attentive without being annoying. They say that the menu changes every three months but already they have been on Jamaica for at least a month and Singapore is coming only in April. For starters we had the Havana Egg Roll off of the regular menu. The flavors were great but my bf felt it had a little too much cheese. For entree I had the Turkish Sili Levrek which is also a signature dish that stays on the menu. It was a very thick piece of Chilean sea bass that was pan seared. As a result the top and the bottom of the fish were well seasoned and had a great texture from the pistachio nuts, but the middle part of the fish lacked flavor. The couscous had a little too much salt but I can see that as an overcompensation for the unseasoned middle fish, so as long as everything is eaten together it's more balanced. My bf destroyed the Oxtail and rice. It's not my jam but I did try some of the meat and the dumping, both very tender and flavorful. The portion sizes were also just enough to be full but not to take leftovers. For dessert we couldn't come to a consensus so I had the Turkish coffee cheesecake and my bf had the rum cake. Jordan was so amazing that he offered to comp one since we said we don't normally order two desserts. I liked the flavors of the cheesecake but the crust to filling ratio was a bit off, would have preferred more of the latter or less of the former, as it was hard to cut through. For cocktails I had the Moroccan Sunset which is one of their highlighted drinks. The fact that it is served over a cube of frozen port is very cool. What other drink can you order where it gets stronger as it melts? My bf had the Bhom Bhom off the Jamaican menu and it was a little too boozy tasting for me, but inventive nevertheless. Finally, kind of weird to point out, but the restrooms were also pleasant even offering scented hand lotion. Overall we had a lovely experience at The Consulate and will recommend to others especially who are tired of the same old. read more

One of the most interesting restaurants in Atlanta! The Consulate serves food from around the world and they change up their country of focus every quarter. We went during Papua New Guinea and I thought the food and service were fantastic and the decor is absolutely amazing, but management could be a lot better! We had a reservation for 7:15 and we got there right on time. We were told our table was still being set up and we could just wait at the bar. The bartender was nice and I got myself a tasty cocktail, but we sat around until 7:45/7:50 when our table was FINALLY ready. We were really disappointed that it took 30 min for us to get to our table even with a reservation and the Consulate supposedly has a 2 hour dining window for each table. Luckily our server was great, food came out fast, and the food was pretty good too! We started with their Munster minis and then shared the jollof rice and their Papua New Guinea national dish. Everything tasted great and portions were huge (I had 2 more dinners at home afterwards). I've only had it a couple of times, but their jollof rice was soooo good like 10/10 would always order it here! I'd definitely like to come back to The Consulate when they have a unique country on their menu, and maybe if I'm lucky, I might one day get the opportunity to spin the globe. I still think it's best to have a reservation since it's busy, but there's a chance you might not be sitting down anytime close to the time you reserve! read more

Great experience, everything from the ambiance to the food was top notch. The menu was modeled after traditional Jamaican cuisine and which took us on a one way trip to flavor town. The service was exceptional and we can't wait to go back for the next country which is set to be Singapore. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a perfect dining experience. read more
