Absolutely YES and come taste the amazing cuisine of Basil Thai! Came across an Instagram post and wanted to give it a try! We were greeted immediately when we entered, seated in a booth, and advised to access the menu thru the posted QR code. My friend ordered the custom dry pot that had noodles, definitely has some spicy kick, but very flavorful! I ordered the custom hot pot w/ all the meat and seafood options, onion, bean sprouts, broccoli, mushrooms, with mild spice. The broth is very flavorful. We made our own entree by taking some of the dry pot and spoon the chicken broth and veggies atop, squeeze a lil lime juice and OMG it's a flavorful masterpiece! The only reason I didn't give Basil Thai 5 stars was because I thought the digital menu via the QR code was a little difficult to use and there are limited substitutions so definitely make sure you understand the spice levels.

I was recommended this place from a friend, so I had to try when I'm in Austin. When we got there it was empty, which was a surprise because we came in during lunch time on a weekend. This made me question whether it was actually good or not. Me and my boyfriend did the create your own hot pot. I got the thai yellow curry with beef & he got the combo tom yum. The both of the broths were really good. The thai yellow curry was rich & creamy. The tom yum was sweet. Both of the hot pot had plenty of meats & veggies. It was a good portion for the both of us & wouldn't recommend sharing. To place an order, you just scan the QR. We were able to get our food fairly quickly. Overall, it was good & I would most likely come back when I am in Austin.

This place is awesome! We have been here twice now and each time the food has been super delicious, with quick service and such kind hospitality from Rachel. The fried chicken, hot pot, and appetizers are all great. I'm so glad to have found this hidden gem, as the prices are reasonable and the quality of ingredients are very high. I would give Basil Thai 10 stars if I could. We will be back!

AUSTIN RESTAURANT WEEK #2 A pleasant find in the HEB shopping at Parmer and Mopac...this little gem was a hidden surprise. We might not have heard about Basil Thai had it not been for restaurant week. For $25 you received soup and fried chicken for 2-3 people. After eating my soup, I did not have much room for fried chicken. The soup was nicely prepared with perfectly cooked vegetables...just a little more than al dente but not super soft. We had enough leftovers for another meal. The soup was so flavorful and steaming hot, which came out on a square wood stand with a hibachi type top. You could literally see the fire underneath the metal bowl. My hubby, who is a meat and potatoes guy, loved the soup and the fried chicken. The white meat fried chicken was in nugget size servings with a superbly flavored crust. The manager served us with ourfood coming pretty quickly. Basil Thai had a large number to go orders with two Uber drivers picking up large orders. The environment in the restaurant was pretty laid back. Thumbs up on this restaurant...

I was really drawn to the concept and was super excited to try this place. However, I was a bit disappointed :( I ordered the spicy dry pot that had all the toppings chosen for you. You order by scanning a QR code on your phone and the interface was confusing for me. I thought noodles were included, so I ended up having to order some on the side later. The price was lowkey ridiculous, $1.50 for 1/4 of an instant noodle block. The dry pot itself was okay. It was around $20 with just meat and veg and the portion was pretty big, enough to feed two people. The only thing was that it was insanely salty. I brought the leftovers home and diluted it with some chicken broth and it tasted a lot better. The flavor was good and I liked the mala spice. The service was very nice. I would give it another try but maybe order differently. The thai tea however, was really good! It tasted like it was actually brewed and not powder.

Service was not bad. It was really busy when I went but we were able to get a table pretty quickly. We got the family combo meal to split and it was a lot of food. However some of the flavors/spices were kind of off. the dry noodles just felt like when you have random stuff in the fridge and you tossed it together. It had french fries, fish balls and all sorts of random things that didn't taste cohesive at all. However I really really enjoyed the fried rice, it's probably one of the best I've had. Perfectly spicy and fluffy.

We were looking for a Thai place that was somewhat northwest and picked this place. When I walked in, the fabulosa cleaning chemicals were over powering the restaurant to the point it made my nasals hurt, but touched it out since we were a party of 3. No paper menus, had to scan and order but had issues since our order was not submitted, waitstaff ended up placing our order. Prices are steep considering the amount of food you get. The dishes are different than we are accustomed too although the broths were not as heavy and rich which was a plus. I found the food ok, however the drunken noodle was dry, I'm use to it having it slightly saucy. The red curry hot pot was tasty but again, slightly different than what we're used to. The tom yum seafood hotpot was tasty but not what I was expecting and a very small hotpot but luckily we had enough to share. We all drove a minimum of 20 miles to this place and am not sure it's worth the distance driven. We have our favorites that we frequent in our areas. But it was worth a try.

I had seen that Basil Thai was like a personal hotpot place, but I had never gone before because I thought it was like a whole deal and probably expensive, and that I had to save the occasion for something special. But! It's actually so accessible and can pass for any meal. Not that the food isn't special, because it really is good, but that I had overhyped what the experience would be into something overwhelming, when that wasn't the case at all. You can do a build your own, but with all the options on the menu, I just decided to get one of their already curated bowls - the coconut milk (tom kah) with beef. I am guilty of just ordering anything that says it has coconut milk in it. And im often disappointed by not really being able to taste the coconut milk in it. But that wasn't the case here at all. Whenever I'm craving spicy coconut milk type broth, this is exactly what I want! The food comes out pretty quickly, and the servers are pretty friendly! I got the medium level spice for this dish, but I definitely feel like I could have gone for the hotter version. I was kind of scared because I was coming off of recovering from a slight cough, but definitely could have gone spicier. The noodles themselves were okay, it felt like your typical ramen noodles. But all the toppings were good, I loved the broccoli in it too. But I wish there was more beef inside, it didn't feel like it had much meat at all. But yeah the broth really sold it for me. I feel like I could have just drank it all, but I didn't want to be too puffy :(( I wish I packed it and took it home. That being said, the price was pretty reasonable imo.

THE BIG: Basil Thai is nestled in the Market at Parmer Lane strip mall. The windows have ads on it but also acts as a sun protector. Plenty of parking in the outdoor parking lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: We ordered for pickup on a Friday afternoon and was able to get our order filled fast. The parking lot gets full quick so be aware of that. We ordered the dry pot with beef, curry hotpot with udon, tom yum soup, and lemongrass beef. The flavors were all sorts of funked up but maybe it's because I'm a traditionalist with food. The curry hotpot with udon was such a weird texture and I couldn't tell if i liked it. The best dish was the dry pot with beef in my opinion. Meat was nice and spiced and had a bevy of veggies. THE FINAL BAMBOO: We spent around $60 for 4 dishes, which is an incredible price, however the food fell flat for me and I think the only time I would try this again would be if I go in person and sit down.

basil thai never misses!! my friends and i come here all the time. the portions are humongous, especially the hot pots and dry pots, and i love the build-your-own options. there's a wide variety of veggies and meats to choose from, and the protein portions are always sooo generous. the prices are on the higher side, but one pot is easily big enough for two people to share. their mala dry pot is properly spicy and numbing without being too greasy or salty. the curries and lemongrass sizzling plates do lean a little sweeter, though. service is incredibly fast and super friendly, and i leave in a food coma state every single time :D

Oh come on. This was one of my goto places for Singapore vermicelli cuz it's my favorite. I went on Sunday and got platter of weirdly flavored spaghetti? Seriously? Had no curry flavor and the reheated wheat noodles were a weird texture. I won't be back and unfortunately I recommend you look elsewhere. If a place will sub out rice vermicelli with spaghetti? They've lost the plot. I'm so disappointed. There's enough other places around. Don't bother here.

First hotpot experience and this place really set the bar high. Was greeted by the sweetest lady as soon as we walked in. She let us know to scan to order and offered to answer any questions we had before submitting our order. Food was out so fast and presentation was mouthwatering. We decided to do the create your own hotpot with the Thai red curry and salt and pepper wings. The Hot pot was amazing. Not too rich and had depths of flavor. Loved being able to create my own unique flavor by being able to select the ingredients. The salt and pepper wings were not as great. The chicken was very salty and lacked flavor. Overall great experience definitely will be back anytime I'm in the ATX area. Loved the staff 10/10!

I love Basil Thai. I hadn't been in a while and I can honestly say I was a tad disappointed. I always used to order the red curry with shrimp. It comes in an oblong bowl and it's soupy. Soooo delicious! Well now they make you order online. I selected red curry. It came out like fried chicken pieces with red curry sauce mixed in! Clearly NOT what I was expecting. They told me the curry I wanted was on the old style booklet menus and not online. Needless to say I got what I wanted however still had to pay for an untouched and unwanted meal. Make sure you understand clearly what you're wanting before ordering.

Since Li Hot Pot closed permanently following COVID-19 my girlfriend and I were pretty bummed because that was the last traditional hot pot place in Austin (even San Antonio doesn't have any). We thought we were out of luck and would just have to do homemade hot pot dinners but then I came across this place. I saw it on YouTube not online. It looked good so we went to try it. You get to choose all the ingredients you want but the hot pot comes pre made for you with all of the ingredients already in it unlike traditional hot pot. I really enjoy doing it myself so we thought this wasn't going to be as fun but the flavor and comforting atmosphere made up for it. It was delicious. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. The lady (I'm assuming possible owner) who was waitressing was attentive and very kind. Hot pot is usually on the more expensive side but this runs about 16 dollars a person which for hot pot, is not bad at all. I really don't have anything bad to say about this place. The only thing would be that the source of heat underneath the hot pot kind of gives off a burnt metallic smell but that's not a big deal and doesn't affect the taste of the food. All around, superb place and we will be back again and again. Lastly, maybe it's just me being naive, but my girlfriend and I are Caucasian/Hispanic and we have noticed that often at traditional Asian restaurants we tend to feel a little uncomfortable because we are sometimes treated as if we want to be left alone, or as if we don't know what we are doing, or even as if we're intruding on someone else's culture. I won't assume the reasons for that but more places should strive to be like Basil Thai. I felt completely at home and relaxed as if we were all one big family. Traditional Asian food (not things like Panda Express) have become one of our favorites and I feel more people would give it a chance If places seemed a little more open to all cultures and if people were more educated on Asian culture because like us, many people love, respect and adore hot pot, Korean bbq, yakiniku, noodles, lao, Burmese, and Thai, then the businesses would be booming and maybe we'd have more hot pot places!! All love. NOTE FOR OWNERS "Advertise this place as a hot pot place or maybe add it to the name or sub name? This place does not come up on Google when you search for hot pot. The only reason we found it is because a YouTube review. You are missing out on customers who deserve to enjoy and eat this delicious food!" read more

I ordered Basil Thai via Grubhub for work today and my experience was terrible! First off Grubhub was 15 minutes late delivering my order, but the biggest issue was the Pad Thai. I thought Pad Thai was safe pick when it comes to Thai food. I was wrong today, this was by far the worst Pad Thai I've ever had in my life. We just didn't like the food. The pad thai was very lemony/twangy and wet. The basil chicken tasted like the sauce you put on satay (very peanut). I'm sure they brought me the wrong dish but the waitress argued otherwise. To top it off, my wife and I both got upset stomachs. Stay away! read more

Let me preface this with I had a to-go order. I ordered the large size of the Tom Yum soup with chicken added. The total for the soup was $10 before tax, so I expected a bowl sized portion. Just don't order anything besides a hot pot. I ordered a beef salad and it's likely through an entire container of salt on top of it and when I told her it was inedible she took it from me but it was still on the bill. We also ordered shrimp pad Thai which was an odd pink color all the way through and tasted off. So needless to say we didn't really eat that either. There isn't really a kids menu so be prepared to pay full price for anything your child is going to want to eat The hot pot part was tasty, they could use more variety on the Broths. read more

Maybe we should have ordered the hot pots? The tea I had was amazing. The fried egg rolls were fantastic! I loooove the taste of MSG - yum! Everything else was meh. There was a piece of black slimy mold in the water that was given to my son - they should probably clean out their ice machine. Typically I love Pad Thai, but this one wasn't my favorite. We weren't crazy about any of the entrees we ordered for that matter. We had to bribe our son to eat the smallest amount of his dinner with the mango rice pudding. After he almost threw up eating his food (he was being overdramatic), we found out they were out and went to Baskin Robbins. Our server was very personable, but was super busy with other tables and we felt stuck waiting for the check. I wish we had tried the hot pots because everyone else in the restaurant seemed happy with theirs. Lol unfortunately our kids would probably never allow us to go back. read more

So I ordered a vegetarian pad Thai and a chicken pad Thai. Unfortunately, they messed up one of the orders and the food was very bland. Yuck. I first ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and had to send them back because there was so much dark meat in them. Just tasted awful. Then I ordered the pad thai with shrimp. Mediocre. Both dishes have some odd spice mixed in with them that gives them an orange tinge and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste. I'd been intending to give myself a little treat - very disappointing. This place isn't all that great. I ordered a pad wood sen w/shrimp to go. After eating the noodle. I got a really bad stomach ache right away. Either the shrimp wasn't fresh or the food wasn't cooked right. I couldn't tell because they added so much sauce to my noodle. I won't be going back to this place again. read more

As a vegan: I had an incredible amount of options! I ended up going with the build your own hot pot soup and it turned out amazing (I highly recommend the miso broth... so good!) My non-vegan boyfriend's spicy chicken fried rice came out before mine and it smelled amazing. He was said he thoroughly enjoyed it! We went for dinner, but I bet this would be a great place for a relaxed, low key lunch. The food came out quickly, was delicious, and ended up being a good price! We'll definitely be back for more. read more

Their service is much like a normal Asian restaurant that has slightly attentive servers but they do not give full attention to their customers. Since I'm used to this, it's no big deal to me. The five stars is for their amazing hot pot! Boiling right in front of you and just so delicious. I always get the yellow curry broth with ribeye beef. I come here whenever it's cold outside or if it's a boiling hot soup kind of day. I totally recommend the restaurant to anyone that loves hot pot, curry, soup, or Asian noodle soup. read more

The picture they sent back to me when I contacted them was what it should look like but mine didn't because I didn't order "extra sauce" reached out to company before leaving review. Very cute little restaurant nestled in the Mopac and Parmer HEB shopping center. They sell individual hot pots at a great price and you can choose from a variety of different soup bases. Perfect for cold weather nights we've been having! My friends and I have gone a couple times a week since we've found out about it. The Milk Tea is exceptional as well. You can really taste the tea flavor and it's not overpoweringly sweet like some of the other milk tea places in town. Definitely must try! read more

Pad thai was too dry and tested like ketchup and there were really really parsimonious meats in the food. Pretty much the food came with just noodle. Moreover, hot pot tasted okay but like I said miserly ingredients. Noodles was the only thing that they provide enough. The food was overpriced in terms of the quality and quantity of foos they served. read more

This restaurant is fairly new, being at this location for a couple of months. It is said by professional restaurant reviewers that you should give a new restaurant 6 months to perfect themselves. My mistake. I was seated by a VERY pleasant hostess. It was lunch time and there were 2 other tables occupied. I ordered my faves Pad Thai and Thai Tea. They were both too bland for my palate. The prices were reasonable. The decor is understated but classy. The restrooms were clean. Overall, I say give it a try. I might even try it again in a few months. read more

Horrible service! Went in on a Saturday night for a to-go order. Needed to look around to find a server, finally found one but was told they do not do to-go orders here (back counter) and needed to wait at front counter. I explained that I couldn't find a menu or anyone to ask questions. Went to front counter to wait where the same server came to the front 10 minutes later and gave me a menu (why didn't he do that in the first place)! Then waited another 20 minutes for them to take my order (to be honest, I should have left). 15 minutes later they told me they were out of half my order!! 15 minutes to figure that out. Horrible, horrible. I hope the food makes up for this disaster of service but the service was so bad even if the food was amazing I would still never come back. Shame read more

Basil Thai opened in Austin in 2017 with a goal of bringing classic Thai food together with the shared experience of customizable hot pot. Led by Rachel, whose food industry experience spans 20 years, our family-owned restaurant has grown into a North Austin destination for 15 flavorful broths, Thai curries and noodles, and 18 flavors of fried chicken and wings. Every one I tried was really good! The mala is pretty spicey if you like a good spice :) you get to choose the protein you want and 8 other ingredients to add to it. Every thing was so tasty, especially the hot pot and Thai fried rice. Never find this kind of hot pot in any other Thai restaurants. Next table ordered a hot pot with mala butter broth. The dry noodles were decent but not my favorite, it did have more protein and other toppings than the soup version but the noodles were a bit overcooked. I enjoyed the pork cracklings and side veggies that came with all the dishes. I would definitely come back for the Shan noodles again and try other rice dishes. Staff were incredibly kind and attentive. This place is a cute mom and pop restaurant, definitely go and support them.

The lunch price is very reasonable, and we opted to add on the sushi component for $5 extra for $30/person, which is very fair in the Austin market for hot pot and sushi! The hot pot broths are stellar, I went with the Tom Yum and husband went with the veggie Mushroom broth, both were very tasty and then we went to town with the assortment of ingredients, veggies carbs and proteins all within our reach. We walked in and were warmly greeted, seated and our server (I forgot his name, doh!) but he was very friendly to walk us through the menu, patient as we looked our options over and attentive in checking if/when we wanted to order more rolls (we didn't - I had too much hot pot lol) but he was so attentive to us and to his other tables, and overhearing him speak to other tables in Chinese was also lovely to see as he was able to take care of orders both in English and Chinese. I have nothing but the best praises for EJ's and our first visit will not be our last. I'm so thrilled they are close to our home, and look forward to many more welcoming meals with family and friends when we are all looking forward to a clean, quality and delicious meal for a variety of pallets!
