Absolutely YES and come taste the amazing cuisine of Basil Thai! Came across an Instagram post and wanted to give it a try! We were greeted immediately when we entered, seated in a booth, and advised to access the menu thru the posted QR code. My friend ordered the custom dry pot that had noodles, definitely has some spicy kick, but very flavorful! I ordered the custom hot pot w/ all the meat and seafood options, onion, bean sprouts, broccoli, mushrooms, with mild spice. The broth is very flavorful. We made our own entree by taking some of the dry pot and spoon the chicken broth and veggies atop, squeeze a lil lime juice and OMG it's a flavorful masterpiece! The only reason I didn't give Basil Thai 5 stars was because I thought the digital menu via the QR code was a little difficult to use and there are limited substitutions so definitely make sure you understand the spice levels.

I was recommended this place from a friend, so I had to try when I'm in Austin. When we got there it was empty, which was a surprise because we came in during lunch time on a weekend. This made me question whether it was actually good or not. Me and my boyfriend did the create your own hot pot. I got the thai yellow curry with beef & he got the combo tom yum. The both of the broths were really good. The thai yellow curry was rich & creamy. The tom yum was sweet. Both of the hot pot had plenty of meats & veggies. It was a good portion for the both of us & wouldn't recommend sharing. To place an order, you just scan the QR. We were able to get our food fairly quickly. Overall, it was good & I would most likely come back when I am in Austin.

This place is awesome! We have been here twice now and each time the food has been super delicious, with quick service and such kind hospitality from Rachel. The fried chicken, hot pot, and appetizers are all great. I'm so glad to have found this hidden gem, as the prices are reasonable and the quality of ingredients are very high. I would give Basil Thai 10 stars if I could. We will be back!

AUSTIN RESTAURANT WEEK #2 A pleasant find in the HEB shopping at Parmer and Mopac...this little gem was a hidden surprise. We might not have heard about Basil Thai had it not been for restaurant week. For $25 you received soup and fried chicken for 2-3 people. After eating my soup, I did not have much room for fried chicken. The soup was nicely prepared with perfectly cooked vegetables...just a little more than al dente but not super soft. We had enough leftovers for another meal. The soup was so flavorful and steaming hot, which came out on a square wood stand with a hibachi type top. You could literally see the fire underneath the metal bowl. My hubby, who is a meat and potatoes guy, loved the soup and the fried chicken. The white meat fried chicken was in nugget size servings with a superbly flavored crust. The manager served us with ourfood coming pretty quickly. Basil Thai had a large number to go orders with two Uber drivers picking up large orders. The environment in the restaurant was pretty laid back. Thumbs up on this restaurant...

I was really drawn to the concept and was super excited to try this place. However, I was a bit disappointed :( I ordered the spicy dry pot that had all the toppings chosen for you. You order by scanning a QR code on your phone and the interface was confusing for me. I thought noodles were included, so I ended up having to order some on the side later. The price was lowkey ridiculous, $1.50 for 1/4 of an instant noodle block. The dry pot itself was okay. It was around $20 with just meat and veg and the portion was pretty big, enough to feed two people. The only thing was that it was insanely salty. I brought the leftovers home and diluted it with some chicken broth and it tasted a lot better. The flavor was good and I liked the mala spice. The service was very nice. I would give it another try but maybe order differently. The thai tea however, was really good! It tasted like it was actually brewed and not powder.

Service was not bad. It was really busy when I went but we were able to get a table pretty quickly. We got the family combo meal to split and it was a lot of food. However some of the flavors/spices were kind of off. the dry noodles just felt like when you have random stuff in the fridge and you tossed it together. It had french fries, fish balls and all sorts of random things that didn't taste cohesive at all. However I really really enjoyed the fried rice, it's probably one of the best I've had. Perfectly spicy and fluffy.

We were looking for a Thai place that was somewhat northwest and picked this place. When I walked in, the fabulosa cleaning chemicals were over powering the restaurant to the point it made my nasals hurt, but touched it out since we were a party of 3. No paper menus, had to scan and order but had issues since our order was not submitted, waitstaff ended up placing our order. Prices are steep considering the amount of food you get. The dishes are different than we are accustomed too although the broths were not as heavy and rich which was a plus. I found the food ok, however the drunken noodle was dry, I'm use to it having it slightly saucy. The red curry hot pot was tasty but again, slightly different than what we're used to. The tom yum seafood hotpot was tasty but not what I was expecting and a very small hotpot but luckily we had enough to share. We all drove a minimum of 20 miles to this place and am not sure it's worth the distance driven. We have our favorites that we frequent in our areas. But it was worth a try.

I had seen that Basil Thai was like a personal hotpot place, but I had never gone before because I thought it was like a whole deal and probably expensive, and that I had to save the occasion for something special. But! It's actually so accessible and can pass for any meal. Not that the food isn't special, because it really is good, but that I had overhyped what the experience would be into something overwhelming, when that wasn't the case at all. You can do a build your own, but with all the options on the menu, I just decided to get one of their already curated bowls - the coconut milk (tom kah) with beef. I am guilty of just ordering anything that says it has coconut milk in it. And im often disappointed by not really being able to taste the coconut milk in it. But that wasn't the case here at all. Whenever I'm craving spicy coconut milk type broth, this is exactly what I want! The food comes out pretty quickly, and the servers are pretty friendly! I got the medium level spice for this dish, but I definitely feel like I could have gone for the hotter version. I was kind of scared because I was coming off of recovering from a slight cough, but definitely could have gone spicier. The noodles themselves were okay, it felt like your typical ramen noodles. But all the toppings were good, I loved the broccoli in it too. But I wish there was more beef inside, it didn't feel like it had much meat at all. But yeah the broth really sold it for me. I feel like I could have just drank it all, but I didn't want to be too puffy :(( I wish I packed it and took it home. That being said, the price was pretty reasonable imo.

THE BIG: Basil Thai is nestled in the Market at Parmer Lane strip mall. The windows have ads on it but also acts as a sun protector. Plenty of parking in the outdoor parking lot. THE BLACK AND WHITE: We ordered for pickup on a Friday afternoon and was able to get our order filled fast. The parking lot gets full quick so be aware of that. We ordered the dry pot with beef, curry hotpot with udon, tom yum soup, and lemongrass beef. The flavors were all sorts of funked up but maybe it's because I'm a traditionalist with food. The curry hotpot with udon was such a weird texture and I couldn't tell if i liked it. The best dish was the dry pot with beef in my opinion. Meat was nice and spiced and had a bevy of veggies. THE FINAL BAMBOO: We spent around $60 for 4 dishes, which is an incredible price, however the food fell flat for me and I think the only time I would try this again would be if I go in person and sit down.

basil thai never misses!! my friends and i come here all the time. the portions are humongous, especially the hot pots and dry pots, and i love the build-your-own options. there's a wide variety of veggies and meats to choose from, and the protein portions are always sooo generous. the prices are on the higher side, but one pot is easily big enough for two people to share. their mala dry pot is properly spicy and numbing without being too greasy or salty. the curries and lemongrass sizzling plates do lean a little sweeter, though. service is incredibly fast and super friendly, and i leave in a food coma state every single time :D

Oh come on. This was one of my goto places for Singapore vermicelli cuz it's my favorite. I went on Sunday and got platter of weirdly flavored spaghetti? Seriously? Had no curry flavor and the reheated wheat noodles were a weird texture. I won't be back and unfortunately I recommend you look elsewhere. If a place will sub out rice vermicelli with spaghetti? They've lost the plot. I'm so disappointed. There's enough other places around. Don't bother here.

First hotpot experience and this place really set the bar high. Was greeted by the sweetest lady as soon as we walked in. She let us know to scan to order and offered to answer any questions we had before submitting our order. Food was out so fast and presentation was mouthwatering. We decided to do the create your own hotpot with the Thai red curry and salt and pepper wings. The Hot pot was amazing. Not too rich and had depths of flavor. Loved being able to create my own unique flavor by being able to select the ingredients. The salt and pepper wings were not as great. The chicken was very salty and lacked flavor. Overall great experience definitely will be back anytime I'm in the ATX area. Loved the staff 10/10!

I love Basil Thai. I hadn't been in a while and I can honestly say I was a tad disappointed. I always used to order the red curry with shrimp. It comes in an oblong bowl and it's soupy. Soooo delicious! Well now they make you order online. I selected red curry. It came out like fried chicken pieces with red curry sauce mixed in! Clearly NOT what I was expecting. They told me the curry I wanted was on the old style booklet menus and not online. Needless to say I got what I wanted however still had to pay for an untouched and unwanted meal. Make sure you understand clearly what you're wanting before ordering.

The food potion here is tiny.... each of us ordered an individual hot pot, and we weren't full after we had a whole pot and a bowl of rice. Don't get fooled by the menu. Beef means two very thin slices of beef, and Napa means three tiny pieces of chopped Napa. It's a rip off. I don't recommend this restaurant and I won't go back. read more

E for effort on this, my first visit to Basil Thai. The option to choose your own adventure/build your own entrees is nice but on this visit it worked better in theory than in practice. It's down to personal preferences and we felt there was not enough work given to melding and building complexity in the spices/curry in either of our mains. Drunken noodles had slightly undissolved spices aka a bit grainy. The Panang curry had more of a thin coconut milk broth than the thicker sauce I crave that better adhers to the noodles/rice. This Panang had a decent heat level kick to it but I had to soup up the curry using spices from the home pantry and some low simmer time in a sauce pan on the stovetop to thicken it up and make it tastier. Taro milk tea was grainy and boba were soft in the center and the exterior skin seemed dry. Positives: All the ingredients in the food were fresh. Price was competitive for portions. Online ordering for take out was fast and easy. Very nice person at counter. Space is clean, well lit and spacious. There's been a Thai restaurant in this space through several different iterations for well over 15 years now. I'll give Basil Thai another shot and try different stuff. Like I said this was a first visit and maybe I just haven't found something on the menu I can get all revved up about yet. read more

I live pretty darn close to this place, but still order it in pretty much every week. A great new addition to the area. I also stop by here for a snack of spring rolls to reward myself for finishing grocery shopping at HEB (same shopping center). Their spring rolls are pretty terrific - and based on the reviews of others, I am definitely stopping for a hot pot soon! read more

Just went here for the first time and it was awesome. I had the hot pot with Thai yellow curry broth, which was my first time having a curry broth, and lamb. It was so delicious and filling that I had to bring home food (Drunken Noodles, Pad See Ew and a couple soups) for my family. Will definitely come again since the food was good and the people working there were so sweet. read more

I really enjoy this restaurant but I ordered their basil fried rice and curry the other day and was pretty disappointed. My fried rice was filled with eggs shells, threw my food away after discovering them. Really loved this place but no longer want to purchase from them. Waste my money read more

I was SUPER excited about going to our sushi spot for Mother's day dinner.... Then, out of nowhere, THIS hole in the wall was selected...whaaaaaat??? The appetizer rolls were solid average.... at best... ...but then....the hotpot was AHHHMAZING!!!... I got the combination hot pot with kimchi broth... it was yuuuuuuuge...and FANTASTIC!!! I usually don't order $18 Thai dishes... but I will here!!! I may or may not get extra rice next time... I'm ok with the extra dollar... but not the tiny portion.... Also - it's always a plus when the restrooms are clean and well taken care of... I still can't believe how much I enjoyed the hotpot... read more

Fast service and tasty food. The curry portions were generous. And the hot pot was a good size for individuals. I just wish it wasn't all in the pot bit more like Shabu, where they boil the broth at the table and bring you the items to cook. Overall, we enjoyed the food and would come back again. read more

The owner is always very friendly and helpful. Service is always on point for me and every meal has been more than amazing. I usually order the hot pot with mala spice and beef ribeye. For $14, they give you an awfully huge portion of food in the hot pot, as well as a side of steamed white rice that's always perfectly prepared. Love coming here with friends instead of going downtown to another hot pot place because the individual hot pot is more feasible for some of us who don't agree on the same ingredients. read more

Wow what a Great place. The make your own Hot Pot is amazing. The Pad Thai was spot on. The Spring Rolls was great. I wish they had some crushed Thai res bird pepper and fish sauce on the table. But otherwise I will be back. My Hot Pot had lots of veggies that O got to choose. I added noodles I won't next time. But the Tom Kha broth was fantastic. Had to order extra for my left overs. Please do yourself a favor and stop by here. read more

amazing authentic tasting satay!! i had the chicken satay and wings - they were super well seasoned and the peanut sauce for the satay. my friends all enjoyed their dishes as well. one of them says "the green curry had the perfect amount of ginger!" the owner was super sweet and thoughtful, even offered to close the blinds in case it was too bright as we were sitting by the window. they played early 2010s music and the whole restaurant was chill. definitely would come again and recommend to friends! read more

This place is surprisingly good disregarding its low Yelp reviews. I ordered the tom yum hot pot with veggie and really liked it. The soup was really tasty. Nothing is more comforting than small hot pot as the weather gets chilling. Also, I kinda feel the name of the restaurant is kinda misleading. This place is more of a Chinese small hot pot place rather than Thai food place. read more

The main reason I gave poor rating for this Thai restaurant... The chef had no sense, he fried the cilantro and put them on our shrimp pad Thai...who in thailand deep fry cilantro, and the pad Thai noodles were a bit soggy. We don't mind the Chinese style hot pot, but please turn up the cold air conditioning for all the patrons. It shall be called a ` Basil hot pot`. read more

Pad Thai- very underwhelming, lacking flavor- I actually had to put salt on it which I have never had to do with any other well seasoned pad Thai. Panang- spot on! Flavor was great! Fresh Spring Rolls- rolls had good flavors, peanut sauce was a tad tom sweet for me, but the flavor was good otherwise. read more

I have yet to find a hot pot like this in the entire city of Austin. I absolutely adore this hidden gem! I come here about 2-3 times a month just for the hot pot and Thai tea! Something about this place just fills my soul! The service is quick. She is so sweet! Definitely don't sleep on this place. read more

I ordered the spicy red curry, chicken pad Thai and drunken noodles. The spicy red curry was so tasty and loved it. When it came to taste the pad Thai and drunken noodles, I was disappointed. The reason was those 2 items tasted of fish. I don't know if the same pot was used to cook any seafood item before and did not expect this. I couldn't taste the chicken in those 2 dishes and couldn't eat. Please make sure there is no cross contamination as people can have be allergic. read more

Delicious hot pot individual soups! My sister and I both got it and she even said "aw I'm kinda sad I'm at the bottom of my bowl". I got the panang Curry and she got the tom yum. Portion size was great, I thought it was a lot. I'd compare it to a large pho bowl size. read more

It's a very interesting concept, and I enjoyed my experience here. I got the $14 beef hotpot with szechuan butter broth. With the order, you get 8 other sides that go into the hotpot. I enjoyed my broth, but as expected of a broth called szechuan butter, it was a little on the heavy side. I also liked the Tomyum (not spicy) broth. For the amount that you get in the pot, I felt like $14 is a reasonable price, and I'll probably come back in the foreseeable future. read more

Consistently good Thai food. This place is close to our house so we often order when feeling lazy and get some type of curry or pad Thai, both of which are awesome. They are quick too, and our order is always ready when we get there for pick up. Everyone there we've interacted with has been friendly as well! read more

I have eaten at most of the Thai places around Austin at one point. This is hands-down the best. The service is outstanding, always with a beautiful smile on her face (think it's the owner, need to ask), with fresh, tasty ingredients and always seasoned just right. I could rave all night about the tom ka soup, but I won't. I will say that every time I get it I have to resist the temptation to roll in it, it's so good! There are SO many options for the hotpots you can make it contain almost any combination you could possibly think of. They are extremely accommodating and will even help you select ingredients, if you're unsure. It's a little hard to find but most definitely worth the hunt. It is our go-to for Thai, and I recommend it with no reservations whatsoever. read more

I ordered delivery through Grubhub for Basil Thai and the food was delicious! I ordered drunken noodles with shrimp. The flavor was spicy but not too spicy, there were lots of large shrimp and the portion size was enough for 2 people. This probably reflects more on grubhub but the food was delivered fast and hot. I think drunken noodles will be my new go to Thai dish over pad Thai. read more

The owner is very nice and they have all of my favorite Thai options, including larb, fresh spring rolls, and pad Thai. My boyfriend got the pad Thai and loved it ($12). I got the single hot pot with seafood combination and butter Szechuan sauce. It was really great and I was worried it would be too spicy since it's a Thai restaurant, and I can imagine it would be too spicy for a lot of people, but I really enjoyed it. Basil Thai opened in Austin in 2017 with a goal of bringing classic Thai food together with the shared experience of customizable hot pot. Led by Rachel, whose food industry experience spans 20 years, our family-owned restaurant has grown into a North Austin destination for 15 flavorful broths, Thai curries and noodles, and 18 flavors of fried chicken and wings. Every one I tried was really good! The mala is pretty spicey if you like a good spice :) you get to choose the protein you want and 8 other ingredients to add to it. Every thing was so tasty, especially the hot pot and Thai fried rice. Never find this kind of hot pot in any other Thai restaurants. Next table ordered a hot pot with mala butter broth. The broth was deep and also had a nice flavor. The dry noodles were decent but not my favorite, it did have more protein and other toppings than the soup version but the noodles were a bit overcooked. I enjoyed the pork cracklings and side veggies that came with all the dishes. I would definitely come back for the Shan noodles again and try other rice dishes. Staff were incredibly kind and attentive. This place is a cute mom and pop restaurant, definitely go and support them.

We walked in and were warmly greeted, seated and our server (I forgot his name, doh!) but he was very friendly to walk us through the menu, patient as we looked our options over and attentive in checking if/when we wanted to order more rolls (we didn't - I had too much hot pot lol) but he was so attentive to us and to his other tables, and overhearing him speak to other tables in Chinese was also lovely to see as he was able to take care of orders both in English and Chinese. I have nothing but the best praises for EJ's and our first visit will not be our last. I'm so thrilled they are close to our home, and look forward to many more welcoming meals with family and friends when we are all looking forward to a clean, quality and delicious meal for a variety of pallets!

I hope they figure out the operations here because this will definitely cause people to find somewhere else to go.
