My wife and I took a weekend trip to DFW and decided on a whim to visit Barcadia; what a gem! From the moment we entered the cozy arcade/bar, we were served excellent beer, delicious food & fantastic cocktails by a friendly & attentive waitstaff. I'm a fan of arcade games, and Barcadia delivers, with Mortal Kombat, TMNT, Simpsons, Rampage WT, and a multicade, to name a few. My first time coming here now that it's under new management. I like the way the patio is set up now. I enjoyed my burger and cider. I feel the need to let people know that this isn't a traditional restaurant. You have to go up to the bar an order everything. Don't look for a waitress. The bartenders are nice and the patrons are pretty friendly too. I will be back again to partake in the daily specials. I would give it 5 stars, but it's an open concept bar with no A/C, so I was a little hot and got a couple of mosquito bites. I'll survive though. read more

Spent a fun night playing giant Jenga, foosball, skeeball, and old school arcade games here the other night. It was really awesome to see some games I haven't seen in years in working order and playable. They also have a pretty good draft selection if you need to loosen up some before you start digitally beating the crap out of people or just want to relax and watch the shenanigans from a comfy booth or table. Do keep in mind that you do have to pay in quarters to play the games, each one ranges from about .25-.50 per play, I didn't realize this and quickly ran out of quarters. They do have an ATM and change machine close by though if you run out. All in all I would definitely recommend this place for a fun relaxing night of games and drinking. read more

First off "Free Game Tuesday" does NOT include all games- there needs to be an *asterisk next to all signs and publications notifying that- skee ball (most popular- still requires you to pay, not like the game scoring is ever accurate though...) Second the women's restroom has NO air vents. No incoming air vents or return air vents. There is absolutely no air movement or HVAC contact in the restroom- I honestly do not know how these restrooms passed city code without any air vents of any kind in the women's restroom ! Barcadia drinks prices are prices you could afford to buy a lot of drinks and get shit face. I'd hang out around here any day over overpriced Uptown. The crowd was down to earth and real. There were all kinds of cool folks. Their patio was awesome, too. The frozen moscow mule was soo good and so dangerous because it was like drinking a slurpee. Now that the newness has worn off of Barcadia, it's refreshing to see that this bar is still as much fun as it was when it first opened. The patio is great, and there is a decent selection of micro-brews, which is nice to see in Dallas. I was stoked to find Maui Brewing Company's Coconut Porter on the menu, and other Texas selections besides Fireman's 4. Nicely done, Barcadia. Free game night is always a hit, but going here on an off night is my personal favorite as it won't be armpit to arse crowded. This is like Dave and Busters for cool people, only it's much smaller and I don't think they serve food (but I don't know for sure) and there's not as many games and all the games are from the 80s and all the games are only 25 cents. Yes! Only 25 cents!! A friend took me here--it was the first time for both of us. We whipped it up on Skee Ball, Jousted each other, tried to figure out how the Q-Bert stick worked, killed turtles on Mario Brothers, eavesdropped on two hipsters talking about King of Kongs and waited patiently for Galaga. There's only about 10 or 12 games (do the combo games count as one or two?!), but they're only a quarter. You can spend a dollar and play four games! Four, people! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to sort out what's going on at Barcadia: lined with old-school arcade games, skeeball and giant Jenga blocks outside, Barcadia takes the fun of a few cold ones with friends and asks "what if we added QBert to this?" It's an interesting question, and one best answered in person. We sauntered in reasonably late night and bee-lined it for the Jenga blocks outside, where people who otherwise couldn't sit still were carefully contemplating which block to move as if our very lives depended on it. And when the whole stack came tumbling down (as it inevitably does), the crash of wood on wood around us gave way to some all too common jeering. Fun. The dessert lover, it turns out, is quite the QBert expert (who knew?) and I lucked into hitting one of the toughest to hit holes in Skeeball. But it wasn't the games that made us feel like winners: festive drink selections and good friends are what that's all about. read more

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. UPDATE THIS PLACE, PLEASE! Used to be in our regular rotation on Monday nights for half-price food nights and the food *is* really good! However--ahem--had a wild hare to play some vidja games after shooting pool at Elbow Room one Friday early evening, so we decided to brave the horrific parking scenario that has always existed at Barcadia and also the huge crowds and try it. The video games themselves are usually not hard to get to. I was shocked at how out of the loop I apparently am, because as I approached that fateful intersection of trying to turn in or out of Barcadia, it is now all valet. Cafe San Miguel is closed and gone, thank goodness, but with valet happening, the whole combined lots had about 2 total cars and a lonely valet waiting. I was like "Screw this." and parked around the corner at some apartment complex. After the short walk back to Barcadia, we burst into the main room to discover there were *ZERO* people in the place. Out on the deck there were maybe a total of 6 people. What the heck?? Ordered two beers from the lonely bartender and 'chinked' up to Space Invaders with my pocket full o' quarters. It was now that we noticed how crappy the place really is. A bunch of the games are out of order. We tried playing Space Invaders but the machine needs maintenance and you can't see the screen hardly at all (also music was so loud we couldn't hear the game audio which is part of the greatness of it, but I won't blame Barcadia for that since it is a bar). Went over to the Skee-ball and 2 of the 3 were out of order. Went out to the deck for Giant Jenga and they have clearly not replaced the jenga blocks since this place opened. They were all warped and mis-shapen and had splinters. Couldn't really play because the blocks wouldn't cooperate. Was a bummer so we paid out and went back to Elbow Room. I love Barcadia, don't get me wrong, but the only place you could feel any AC was in the little girls room. And they do not serve drinks in there. Knox/Henderson really is the place to be these days for most of the folks I know. And the two places to gravitate to are Barcadia and J. Black. Both were packed Saturday night. If you wanted to play Giant Jenga or Big 'Ol Connect Four you were going to have to wait in line. Heck, there was even a line for Skee Ball...SKEE BALL! Barcadia is a breath of fresh air for the Dallas bar scene. Located on Henderson Ave @ McMillan (think Slip Inn/Louie's area, not Porch/Cuba Libre), it's a laid-back scene with more people drinking PBR's, Schlitz's, or a great beer-on-tap selection rather than Red Bulls and Vodkas on the street-side patio or 4-tops inside. The 2 times I have been (Friday Happy Hour and Saturday afternoon), the place was filled without being crowded. They also have a small menu (Fried PB&J is amazing, also sampled the French fries with dipping sauces and wings) ordered from a couple waitresses or the bar. They have also had some great music playing on the house speakers, a mix of 80's for nostolgia's sake and modern Indie and Alternative, as well as a large flat-screen TV in the corner. But the main attraction is the "Arcadia" part: 11 classic video games (Tempest, Donkey Kong Jr, Joust, Robotron, Mrs. Pac Man, Galaga, Super Asteroids, Phoenix, Spy Hunter, Mario Brothers, Star Wars) and 3 Skee Ball machines lined up on the side wall to kill the time, awkward silences, or to incite some friendly competition with your group. That's right, no Golden Tee or Big Game Hunter; go to any other bar in the area for that. All the machines are 25 cents and have ledges in between to rest your drink on during play. It's great to watch people of all ages rediscover the games they used to play in the hometown mall or arcade. I swore I used to be better at these titles. One really can't go wrong with Barcadia. The scene is always entertaining and the bar is always over-attentive. I personally have a due hard crush, because they feature Pac-Man in their arcade gallery. I love their selections of beer, and when you are feeling dangerous their martinis are smooth with a nice little bite! Last Sunday I attended the UYE Pumpkin Carving Watching party at Barcadia. My feelings were somewhat mixed. First, it was very cool to have a bar staff battle of the pumpkins. However, Barcadia won. That kinda feels like, "Oh, I had a beauty pageant at my house last week and I WON!!" Second, I like the idea of having skee ball, giant Jenga, and old video games. I am a game nerd and pretty much love playing games (especially board games!). However, the skee ball machines were mostly broken, the video game selection was unimpressive, and the giant Jenga is a splinter lawsuit waiting to happen. I still had fun at Barcadia. The layout is open both inside and out on the patio, so it doesn't feel claustrophobic. The draft beer selection was decent. The bartenders kicked ass, especially considering how busy they were that night. We never waited long for a drink. However, I kept looking at the tables of the staff from other other bars (Grapevine, Slip Inn, Libertine, Double Wide) and kinda wishing we were drinking at one of those places instead. There were a few "however"s in my review, but all in all I had fun. My yelper table mates probably had more to do with that than the bar itself. Barcadia is definitely one of my all time favorite bars. Who doesn't love beer and arcade games??? Came here with some fellow yelpers for an evening of fun and was pleasantly surprised. On Tuesday nights all of the games are free...WOOHOO!! This particular night was pretty slow because it was freaking cold and raining outside, but one of the bartenders commented that Tuesday nights are typically pretty busy for them. Despite the cold weather, sitting on the patio was not bad because there were overhead space heaters to take the chill off. It actually got a little hot at one point, and we all had to take our jackets off. There is a pretty large selection of games to play...ranging from skee ball to donkey kong to qbert to 2x4 jenga!!! There are some games I had never even heard of but still tried just to get the experience. Sadly, some of the games do not work, but there were still enough to have plenty of fun. The best is the oversized jenga. The blocks are covered in lewd comments (and now a yelp logo) which are quite fun to read while playing. Food is pretty decent as well. Nikki B. had the hamburger nachos and they were scrumptious. We actually had to push them aside at one point because we could not stop munching on them. They were loaded with ground beef, jalapenos, pico, two different types of cheese, and sour cream. Mmmm. Tricia S. and I split some sort of sandwich; however, I cannot remember what exactly was in it. I think it was called the Texas Melt. I remember a toasty bun, bacon, melty cheese, and turkey...maybe...I dunno. It came with a scrum-diddly-umptious bbq sauce for dipping and your choice of fries or fruit. We pretty much inhaled the plate! Parking sucks! They share a lot with Blue Collar across the street but there are limited spots. Arranged for my team dinner of 45 people at Barcadia - in one word awful. Service was very slow, and when we asked for some help the manager was not only not helpful but downright rude to me and others of one of the largest companies in the area. The manager decided that although we booked it for 45 she would tell her team to only prep for 28 - WTF!!!!!!! When we tried to request some better attention for the group, the manager effectively told us she didn't care about our business - which this place must be so busy and their customers obviously don't care as I would never come back here again either with my company or on personal with friend or family. On a Wednesday night, it was pleasantly packed with attractive people, but no one too intimidating. If you're worried about having awkward, forced conversations with a group of people, bring them here to play Giant Jenga. Get tipsy, start pulling out blocks like there's no tomorrow, and soon you'll all be laughing and hollering like old friends. There is also Skee Ball, but apparently it's usually always broken. SO. I love this place. It may be the best patio in town. (or second behind JR's second story patio) Recently i discovered they also have some really good food and on Mondays they have 1/2 price food. They also carry some great keg beer. On a recent trip i discovered their Steak sandwich --- Wow is this good -- don't miss it. French Fry's are great too may be the best in Dallas. (Edit: Well they took this off the menu but the French Fry's are still great) My only issue is parking --- They have a little parking in the back. and you can try and find street parking. I just discovered that you can park on the back row of parking across the street behind the Blue Collar Bar. They have valet (i hate valet) so if you don't mind that it is a good option. OK this place was pretty badass! I was in Dallas for a work conference, and one of the locals suggested this place as a good meeting point. I was tired, and kind of bitchy, and totally didn't want to go out. Wanna know what brightened my spirits? STREET FIGHTER 2! It had been years since i'd played this, but after a few quarters i was back! I played my old standby Dhalsim, and it wasn't long before I was doing yoga flames all over the competition! Oh to be 14 again, this time with beer....well better beer. I decided to be less antisocial and went out to see what my coworkers were doing. They were playing GIANT JENGA! Seriously badass, Barcadia! Maybe my compadres were just jenga badasses, but this game ended up being taller than a couple of the players. When it finally fell, i can understand why the have "Play Jegna at your own risk" signs! I didn't really stay that long (I WAS exhausted) but the place seemed cool. It was pretty hipster, but not as obnoxious as some of the places i've frequented back home. They had a decent beer selection for a place that doesn't seem to specialize in beer. Went here with a group of friends to end our night and it was definitely a great experience. In hindsight this would have been a great place for us to start our night because the crowd was fuckin' awesome! Paid $5 for a Dos Equis, enjoyed the music and made small talk with a variety of groups there. The general theme that I noticed was, frat or tatt. I was talking to some frat lookin' ass guy that was there broin' it out with his friends but it's all good. He was nice enough to buy me a shot simply because I said he had nice kicks. Used to go here a lot with co-workers for happy hour Barcadia is awesome. Nice patio, open airy inside. Drinks are cold and reasonable. Cheese fries are my favorite, but I've had some sandwiches and quesadillas too. Is it gourmet food? No. Is it good after 4 beers and a round of tequila shots? Absolutely. They have skee ball, giant jenga, pacman and the crowd is usually super casual. Sometimes the service is a little slow, but just order a little before you need a new beer. Staff is very nice, just not the fastest. I also have an American Airlines debit card that I get 1 mile for every $1 spent. When you sign up for their dining program, I get triple the miles at Barcadia, just an FYI to anyone else who participates in that. read more

I've been to Barcadia several times now and the novelty of arcade games and skee ball (all free on Tuesdays!) and giant Jenga still hasn't worn off! The vibe is very laid back and casual, and the people are fun. And believe it or not, the menu is pretty awesome too! The cheeseburger nachos and the Texas melt sandwich are awesome. The Barcadia burger was pretty decent (I loved the oozy cheese!) but overdone for my tastes. The fries were pretty yucky. One of these days I will give in and try the fried PB&J sandwich. I'm the 46th review, what is there to say? I was a first time patron and I'm confident that I'll be back there many more times. The beer selection was awesome, the bartenders were busy as all hell, but Josh didn't have a single problem with my orders and usually had the drink ready before I could call out my next one - how bad ass is that? The arcades were a nice nostalgic touch and were a good distraction/break from drinking and chatting it up with old friends. A few things - it's a bar. You could claim that it's a bar/restaurant, but you'd be sorely mistaken if you thought "restaurant" wasn't just an afterthought. Most reviews claim it gets busy around 10:30-11, but I got there at 9:30 and we had to valet across the street at Blue Collar. Not a big deal, but if you're not a fan of crowds, well...you know. Diversity is definitely there, chill is definitely there, and most everyone I met playing video games, waiting at the bar for a drink or excusing myself while walking by were extremely friendly. Oh, on a final note...the music was fine. I have *NO* idea what some people are complaining about. Barcadia is more than Bar + Arcade, it is a postmodern time machine. Any Gen-X'er who steps through the front doors will be teleported back to 1983, when the meaning of life could be answered with a cold Coca-Cola and a pocket full of quarters. Gen-X'ers are a fussier lot nowadays, and Barcadia has risen to the task to deliver better than average perks. Whoever designed this bar certainly did their homework. No kidding... 24 beers on tap and 34 in bottles. Gotta love that. Edible offerings are similarly diverse. Everyone seems fascinated with the Texas State Fair-inspired fried PB&J, but I'm curious to come back for brunch. I can't resist the surreal experience of consuming mimosas and eggs benedict in the glowing presence of Robotron. Must be a rite of passage thing. The music is thoughtfully tuned to evoke old memories of awkward prom kisses and opening beers in the back of your parents' station wagon. Much better than your average Top 40 "Best of the 80s" mix. I'm sure I heard some old FIXX, Thompson Twins, and Roxy Music tracks... ah, such good memories. An enclosed side patio affords the smokers a place to rub elbows and play Ginormous Jenga. It's ironic how the more people drink, the more they want to play this game of finesse. Beware... the boards are rather large and heavy. A falling tower could murder your toes, so keep your heels and open-toed sandals at a safe distance. Brilliant idea though. Costs the bar nothing and the patrons love it. I tend to come here when the crowds aren't choking the place, such as free game night Tuesdays. Avoiding peak hours is probably the best way to get a crack at the games and good table service. Also, they amazing specials (half price food on mondays, free games on tuesday, etc...) and the service is pretty good. The crowd is usually a good mix, not too hipster or too douchey. Who doesn't love Ms. Pacman/Galaga/Centipede? Give me a handful of quarters and you'll never see me again. This place has good times written all over it. Drinks are good. Vintage arcade game are classic. Oversize Jenga on the patio. Skeeball reminds me of my childhood. The crowds are amazing, everyone from drag queens to yuppies that have no shame. I was in line for el bano when a girl behind me told the girl in front of me "Um, the men's room is over there". WHAT? The "man" looked at the girl behind me and goes. "That's nice why don't you go wait in it." YES! Score one for "my man"! Everyone is having a great time. Big place, large open patio. I always enjoy coming here, although I usually end my night someplace else. It gets tooo crowded around midnight. Allison doesn't fight for bar space... Who can beat my top score on Galaga??? Barcadia, as with most places in Dallas, can be hit or miss. Either way, I'm going to have fun. The arcade games, of course, are not the only reason I'd go here. But, it is fun to play Mario Brothers or Donkey Kong after knocking a few back. The drinks are decently priced and the waitstaff is pretty much the best in town.
